Located in Redmond Town Center with ample parking everywhere, this small-ish restaurant is about as mom-and-pop as one can be. They offer only 3 dishes with slight variations. The building and the restaurant are new and modern. We went on a Saturday at 11am, the opening time. It is the guaranteed way to secure a table for a party of 5 in this modest size restaurant (Thank goodness my friend was first in line.) Reading the reviews, we learned they are having growing pains with logistical and kitchen hiccups, as well as running out of food before the 4pm closing time, especially on the weekends. Be aware. Our server is an enthusiastic young adult who knew the ordering tool well, managing additional take-out orders for one person at our table, as well as split-pay the bill for all of us, across two QR codes that we used on two tables (on purpose). The Food: Classic Chicken Rice, $16.50 - 5 Stars This is Hainanese chicken with rice - a very popular steamed chicken dish with a specially made rice that is sometimes called 'oiled rice' in Chinese. In short, the broth that is used to cook the chicken is also used to cook the rice, giving the rice a hint of chicken and a slight sheen. The chicken when cooked properly is tenderly smooth without lost of texture. The rice's flavor is a perfect match. This dish is commonly served with a bowl of broth, too. One of my tablemates is a Singaporean who grew up eating this dish, and said theirs is perfect. The price is reasonable for the portion size and given the Redmond address, too. Crispy Chicken Rice, $16.50 - 4.5 Stars Same as above except tender chicken on the inside, crispy breaded on the outside. As an order by itself, it would be a bit too much grease for me. I suspect others will be just fine with it. Combo Chicken Rice, $18.95 - 5 Stars I actually ordered the combo cuz I want to try both versions. They genuinely are both very good. Kuy Teav, $16.95 - 4.5 Stars This is a Cambodian noodle soup with pork slices, ground pork, shrimp, pork liver slices, greens and more over rice noodles. The broth is a mild clear broth. My friend, who is Cambodian, ordered this dish. She added chili pepper flakes (one of the containers at the table) to give it a kick. She said it was very homey and hit the spot perfectly. Saw the restaurant on IG and I was very excited. This is a staple that my mom makes when I visit. Got there a little after opening and there was already a wait. Which I feel like is a good sign. Put our names on the list and got in within 30 mins. The place is a little crowded. There is barely any room for comfort. The tables and chairs are pretty jam packed. Easy to order, but you will need a phone to scan and a server brings you the food to your table. Really enjoyed all the art and decor. My friend and I both got the dry Phnom Penh noodles. Great chicken and rice restaurant on the East side! Had stumbled upon this place on instagram and decided to check it out. I ended up going during soft opening earlier in September ago so things may have changed. There was about an hour wait for a table on a Sunday for lunch. The restaurant is fairly small. The wait ended up being a little less than the estimated hour, which was great. When I returned to the host area, I let one the worker there know we had arrived and he didn't ask for my name, just told us to sit at one of the empty tables. Kind of odd he didn't ask because they ended up not marking my name off on the wait list and I kept getting text reminders about a table when I was already there. The food was delicious though. You order using your phone to scan the QR code at the table. It arrived fairly quickly after we ordered. The chicken was very soft and rice was very flavorful! The soup was very light as well and I really enjoyed it. I like that they provided two sauces for the chicken, but I wish they gave more of it. Wow!!! Might be my new favorite place in Redmond. Not sure why the reviews are so low; maybe the first few weeks were a bit shaky for soft opening? When you see a restaurant that only has six dishes on their menu you expect them to do it excellently. A Ma Chicken is no exception. With one of the smallest menus I've seen in a while, you get your choices of a steamed chicken, fried chicken, noodles with soup (pho like), combo of half steamed and fried chicken . The wait time is real and is first come first served. They have a menu to look at but you order on your phone via QR code that's on the table. The fried chicken was hands down the best, with a crunchy light batter paired with the savory rice and pickled veggies; made a perfect meal. I really, really wanted to like this place as I've been searching for a chicken rice spot in Seattle for nearly a year now. This location looked super promising as they have a tiny menu consisting of just chicken rice and Cambodian noodles. Based on the other reviews, I might have just had a one-off bad experience though, so maybe I'll be back in a couple months after they've settled in a bit more. It's located just outside of Redmond Town Center and if there's no street parking, I'd probably grab a spot in the H Mart. I'd expect to drop a bit under 20 bucks a person here, which is a bit expensive for the portion size. Combo Chicken Rice (2.75/5): The poached chicken had absolutely zero flavor, which was very surprising. Also, the slices of chicken I got were insanely small. The crispy chicken was slightly better as there was more flavor and crunch, but the chicken was a bit overcooked. Finally got to try A Ma Chicken right next to the Redmond Town Center. This is easily one of my go-to spot in the future, the atmosphere is incredible. Clean, spacious, well decorated with Asian cultured items. The AC temperature was very comfortable on a hot summer day also Let's talk about the food, I had the combo chicken rice (the fried chicken was very tasty and tender, not dry nor heavy coated with batter) and it was incredibly delicious. I also had the KUY TEAV PHNOM PENH, but beware that it has pork liver and heart in it, if you are not a fan, ask to opt out on those proteins instead. We came here during soft opening (they just opened up a few weeks ago!) and were overall pleasantly surprised. The menu is very focused, which is usually a good sign. Interior was bright and stylish. We arrived about 1.5 hours before closing, and they had run out of the classic chicken by then, so we got the crispy version. It was very juicy, and felt light even though it was fried. Sauces, side of broth, and rice were very flavorful. We also tried the traditional noodle soup kuy teav phnom penh. It came deconstructed, and you were to add in the noodles and broth by yourself at the table. Maybe because of this presentation, it was not as steaming hot as I would like for a soup dish. I don't know if I'm qualified to rank its taste exactly since it was my first time trying that dish, but the broth was a little on the sweet side for me and some of the meat in it (liver?) are probably an acquired taste. Went to this new restaurant's soft opening for lunch today. The restaurant was very tidy and clean looking. Limited menu right now. We tried two dishes, their crispy chicken meal and classic chicken meal. The meals come with the specified chicken, ginger chicken flavored rice, pickled veggies, and bowl of delicious chicken broth. Each plate with the chicken and rice had several slices of cucumber and a curled scallion garnish. Presentation was nice. Service was attentive and friendly, no complaints there. The bar code for the menu didn't bring you directly to their menu. But you were able to reach their website for a menu with a couple of additional clicks. The address I received for the restaurant was 7405 168th Ave NE, Redmond, WA. At first we couldn't find the restaurant at the address I was given even though several of the entry ways were clearly marked 7405. The two doors marked 7405 were locked and you needed to buzz one of the tenants to gain entry. We finally were able to find the leasing agent, and inquired about the restaurant. It turns out the entry door to the restaurant is not actually located on 168th Ave NE, but is around the corner! I think this restaurant has a lot of potential, but I think the recipes need some work. Luckily it was a "soft opening" and they have time to perfect the recipes. The rice has a lot of flavor (it's cooked in ginger & chicken broth), but a bit too ginger spicy for my palette. The rice was gummy and overcooked. The chicken looked and tasted like it was over cooked .... Maybe cooked, then reheated? In my opinion, The pickled veggies needed a touch of sweetness added and I would have preferred it being served cold vs. room temperature. The dipping sauces was just ok, one was rather sweet. First day of their soft opening, and so I've given some slack. But what I've encountered is enough for me to be optimistic. We started with the crispy chicken skin appetizer and that was wonderfully crispy and light. It came with a light chilli-garlic sauce. I would have liked a chill-garlic-vinegar sauce, but that is a Singaporean taste. We had the combination chicken rice so as to sample both. The rice was elegant, fluffy and well cooked. Each grain of rice standing alone as good chicken rice needs to be. Oily but not overly so, and more chickeny and light than the usual. The poached chicken was tender and soft. The crispy chicken was light and crisp. What I appreciated was they were not salty. A dish of soya bean sauce and another of the chili-garlic was provided. Some local diners may decry the lack of salt, but it was perfect for me and my family. The dry Phnom Penh noodles were flavorful, but different from what we like with Singapore-style bak chor mee. Everybody literally raves about this place, it's in Redmond across the street from H-mart. They are known for their chicken and rice, you can either get steam or fried crispy chicken or pay like a dollar more to get both. It's really a lot of food; it comes with the chicken and rice, a side of chicken broth to sip on, and also pickled cabbage. There's 2 dipping sauce, I'm a fan of the black one. There's also extra condiments on the side, try the green pickled garlic. The steam chicken is probably healthier, but the fried crispy chicken is more tasty. This waitlist system is incredibly frustrating and poorly managed. They actually have two separate waitlists, which creates unnecessary confusion. Typically, you join the waitlist in person using their iPad--that's what I've always done. However, tonight was a different story. After waiting over 40 minutes and being #1 on the list, another party walked right in and got seated before us. When we brought it up, the owner explained it was because that party had called ahead and reserved a table. This system is not only unfair but outright ridiculous. The in-person waitlist becomes meaningless if people who call ahead get priority, leaving others waiting for nearly an hour while empty tables are held. The food here is excellent, but this poorly thought-out dual waitlist/reservation system leaves a bad taste in our mouths. I give this place 5 stars with some remarks. The quality and taste of food is hard to beat in Washington State. We ordered the Chicken combo rice set which includes both crispy and poach chicken. I absolutely love chicken rice having lived in Singapore for a period of time, and when I saw that a new chicken rice restaurant has opened on the Eastside, I was excited to check it out! I have been to A Ma Chicken Rice twice since the time of this review, once on a Saturday and another time on a Sunday (both times during lunch time) - Saturday felt pretty busy as we had to get to the restaurant to hop on the waitlist and wait 25 minutes to get seated. Sunday was a better as we could get immediately seated. The restaurant is located on the side of the street just below some apartments. Parking is very easy to find about 2 - 4 minute walk away: you can park at the HMart parking lot and walk on over. Service is decently fast and ordering is done using the QR code on each of the tables. The ambiance in the restaurant is nice - lots of South Asian inspired decoration, fits well with the casual dining experience. There isn't a ton of space and you might get seated next to the entry door, which with constant traffic may make your dining experience less comfortable than expected. I tried two dishes - the combo chicken rice and the Kuy Teav Phnom Penh, which I'll review down below: Combo Chicken Rice ($19): A pretty hearty meal set, and I would say a decent price given how expensive dining out usually is. The chicken slices are very thick and filling - here's a personal preference, I think if it was sliced a thinner it would be a more enjoyable experience. The fried chicken had a nice crispy exterior and both types of chicken had a tender interior. The poached chicken has zero flavor if you eat it on its own - you will need to complement it with the sauces on the serving or provided on the sauce rack at every table. I was hoping for a subtle ginger/green onion taste in the poached chicken on its own - this could likely be done on thinner slices. Soup is delicious and good chicken flavor, it leans on the saltier end if you eat it on it's own so it goes great with the poached chicken. Favorite sauce is definitely the red chili sauce as it gives a nice acidic punch of flavor. As good as the fried chicken was, I think I personally prefer the poached chicken, as the fried chicken does get heavy after eating it for a while. Kuy Teav Phnom Penh ($17): I have never tried this type of need dish before, so I was excited to check it out! From initial glance, I thought it would be similar to Pho in it's presentation with the beansprouts and noodle soup. But this was interesting - the soup is clearer and lighter (pork stock vs beef stock) and there are different cuts of meat (ground pork, pork liver, pork heart, etc.). This is a very fragrant noodle soup and delicious with all of the aromatics and different textures. Though as good as this noodle soup was, I think I would personally stick with just chicken rice when visiting this restaurant, as I don't think it's worth $17 as for the same price you can get a delicious chicken rice instead. In the end, I think A Ma Chicken Rice is a welcome addition to the Eastside that I'm glad to have opened. I think you get a decent bang for you buck in terms of quality and quantity of food here. There aren't too many good Singaporean restaurants in general in Seattle, so if you are looking to fill that craving, this restaurant has got you covered. read more

This is a great addition to the food scene in Redmond Town Center area! I tried their combo chicken rice which came with classic chicken and crispy chicken. I enjoyed the crispy skin on the crispy chicken while the chicken meat was flavored very well. Also the sauces that came along were pretty good too. Heard good things about this restaurant and we finally had a chance to try. Parking was tricky if you were able to find street parking. We arrived right after they open and got sat right away. The ambiance was laid back and server was friendly. A simple menu with limited options. We ordered crispy chicken and it came out quickly. The poached chicken and rice was great, especially with the spring onion oil sauce on the side. The fried chicken would taste even better if they used tapioca flour to coat it (like in Taiwanese fried chicken). The place is fairly small so it's always busy and often a long wait. Be sure to join the wait-list on yelp early to get in sooner. You can self serve by ordering the food on your phone and it comes fairly quickly. Not the easiest place to find due to the trees blocking the sign but it was well worth the drive from Marysville. There was a waitlist when we got there it was 20 min, but by the time we're were seated people were being told the wait would be 45min. It was a beautiful day so we didn't mind sitting outside, except for the constant pestering by the Bees (another customer got stung). Ordering was done through the app. So besides bringing out our order I can't speak much to the service except that it was friendly during the little interaction there was. The food was great best chicken rice I've had in the states! I had the poached chicken set and my wife had the crispy chicken set. Portions were good just enough to fill me up but not make me feel stuffed. We ordered extra rice and ended up taking it with us, normally I'd have left it but it was truly too good to not take it with. I'll definitely come back!!! read more
