Another cold LA evening made shabu-shabu sound like a stellar idea. My wife had been here a couple times. Guess it was my turn to enjoy this relatively newish establishment in this space. It was MLK Day, but dinner service seemed to pick up only after we paid our bill around 5:30. I went with the spicy beef broth - no regrets. And that's my general impression of this place. There aren't a ton of broth elements to fill your plate with at the cold bar. They kind of have a duel service station thing that bisects the kitchen area; two sets of everything, from the veggies to the sauce carts. Their wasabi ponzu was so perfect. All of the meat cuts were pleasantly served in smaller portions. Perhaps you're more careful to order and eat your fill - with hopefully less waste. We mostly just ordered down the menu, in groups of three, until we finished it. The hot bar was not really happening here. It didn't stop them from having great fried rice though, and fried pork balls full of salty, meaty goodness. One can certainly argue that the quality upkeep is less difficult to maintain with a mirrored service area. The staff said they would initiate the AYCE 90-minutes the moment we sit down. I told him we will wait outside instead, then he said he will still time us at 7pm regardless. Not sure he got the nerve to demand us when we could have literally leave and eat elsewhere. Not to mention only 20% of the tables were full that night. I honestly don't know where to start but I rarely give bad reviews but I just have to be honest here. Was greatly disappointed with our experience. We were seated right away which was good but after that the experience just went down hill. They had us order our meats and that was pretty much it. We asked for water and the lady rudly said you go get it yourself. We had to ask for anything we needed, not once were we actually checked on. There was only one nice young server when we asked for things. The only plates that were ever cleaned from our table were the plates from the raw meats. They never asked to fill our base soup, we had to ask. I love Shabu but this place did not do it for me. The ambiance is very nice, clean and spacious. Good options to choose from but it was over priced for what we got and just from the treatment, I tipped 10% which I never do. Just was not happy at all. Always so solid! I love this shabu place and, for the price, it's one of the best options on Main St. I'd recommend half spicy and half house broth. There are so many options here! I love the soft shell crab, shrimp, and crawfish for the seafood section. Their cucumber kimchi is better than at some Korean restaurants! I normally don't waste stomach space on rice, but their fried rice is SO SOLID. You can see them make it FRESH on the wok. I think they use sesame oil too bc it's got a hint of it. If you haven't been , in this hotpot resto, each diner is given a pot to cook their soup/ hotpot in. It's like make your own stew and make your own sauce. A few things I noticed... some drinks offered there are not present here. Some of the sauces as well. Here, you are only allowed 3 plates of meat at a time vs 4. I came here on a Saturday night and there was a 30 minute wait time, even in 90 degree weather. Once we sat down, we were given a notice that the dining time was only 1hr and 30min. The counter away from the seating area had a bunch of various foods to add into the hotpot. All the meats had to be ordered through a server. I tried all the meats available and my favorite was numbers 1,2, and 9. I also tried all their sauces but the one that stood out to me the most was the peanut. It had a small kick to it but I'm not sure if that's from people accidentally mixing the sauces while attempting to pour them into cups. My second time coming here. Came here for dinner and I liked how drinks were included. They also have food like Korean rice cakes while you wait for your food to cook through. My friends and I got the house soup base. I personally wished there were more veggie options but it wasn't bad. Today was a weird day. Normally I love this place! They have a variety of veggies, fish cakes, Korean side dishes, ice cream, and free drinks! But this incident left me feeling disgusted. One of the workers who was wiping down all the sauce containers just dropped one on the floor, picked it up, wiped it with a towel, and continued to wipe each and every single container with the same towel. Then he used the same rag with the bowls customers eat out of. Ever hear of hygiene and cleanliness?! I'm just thinking about all the shoes and what everyone's stepping in. Bird poop, spit, sewage. Honestly, if something drops on the floor, don't just pick it up and wipe it and put it back with all the clean ones, then act like nothing happened. WASH IT AND WASH YOUR HANDS. He was wiping everything with the same rag! It seems like he really doesn't care either because he was also carrying out meat and his fingers would touch the meat too. I saw it happen twice when he came to our table and the way he was holding all the plates, two of his fingers were touching the meat. We say thank you, but he doesn't say anything when he drops the platters of meat or when we say thank you. He just ignores us each time. And then back he goes wiping stuff with the raw meat juice on his fingers. I understand it's hard to keep everything clean, but have some common decency! Especially if you're dropping stuff in front of a bunch of people. It's so bad for business! The chicken that you grab on the side was also raw and the mushrooms were dirty. Like they actually have dirt on them. The only thing is that the service is good. The girls are always super sweet and friendly, which I appreciate and for that they deserve a star. Of the AYCE shabu places in the SGV, I'd rank All That Shabu as the best option. The service and meats are all comparable between the likes of All That Shabu, Momo Paradise and Shabuya but I like the sides at ATS the best. They have a nice selection of warm (Korean) food, drinks are included and offer a wide selection of seafood too. However, I grew up eating Shabu with Sha Cha sauce and none of these 3 AYCE shabu places offer Sha Cha. So, I bring my own and make my dipping sauce with soy sauce, sugar, green onions, cilantro and the sesame oil they offer. I just don't dig any of the premade sauces that are offered (but that's just me). I wish they also offered low sodium soy sauce and I saw a bottle of SUPER SPICY hot sauce by a register. We had a 20 minute wait for Friday night dinner. Not bad. Gave me a chance to walk around the plaza to pass the time. Friday dinner price is $33.99. It covers all the items on the menu (there are three items for dinner and weekend only: ribeye, chuck flat, and lamb) as well as the various stations for veggies, seafood, appetizers, dessert and drinks. I was surprised to find a variety of seafood, like shrimp, scallop, clams, and fish. They even have Korean fishcake on skewers for you to put in your hot pot. The self-serve soda fountain has Pepsi products and they also have unsweetened green and black tea. We ordered several, several rounds of the brisket, flat iron, chuck eye steak, short plate, filet mignon, ribeye, chuck flat and lamb. The ribeye is the leanest. We ended up ordering the filet mignon, chuck flat, and ribeye the most. For dessert, the soft serve machine offers vanilla, chocolate, or a swirl of both flavors. It was more on the icy side, so not really my jam. I actually enjoyed their sesame balls way more (at the first station on your left). Very impressed with their variety of meats and other things you can throw in your hot pot + the included drinks and dessert for the price. They were also playing lots of kpop that night (though some songs were skipping as if they're being played on a Sony Walkman or something lol), so overall an enjoyable first visit to All That Shabu! If you are vegetarian please read this before going. I decided to try this place because I wanted to try a new place, and they caught my eye with their vegetarian broth options. I was extremely disappointed in their vegetarian broth, no flavor whatso ever, it taste damn near like water. I have to give credit to the waitress as she was accommodating, she allowed me to switch out my broth to the miso one. I was disappointed yet again. You could hardly taste the miso. I was able to eat some of my dish by adding in some sauces and seasonings. A flavorful broth should not be something the customer has to create, it should be a given. Lastly, my boyfriend found some uncleaned octopus at the bar. If you're going to buy octopus that has not been cleaned to save some money, you better go the extra mile and make sure they are clean. Unfortunately that was not the case for us when we went. The ambiance is okay, it's a buffet so expect it to be busy. The stations are not well maintained, they are missing labels which is a dangerous situation to be in if you have dietary restrictions or allergies. Overall I would not go to this place again, if you are vegetarian and are looking for a quality experience I would suggest O'seyo Shabu Shabu in Pasadena. let me preface this review by sharing a little bit about me. I've always liked the IDEA of hot pot. I love how it looks like a lot of fun, you can add the items you want and it's fun with a group. This is probably the 3rd time EVER that I have had hot pot. My first experience was some place else in the 626. It might have been boiling point. Even then, I'm not quite sure as it was just a confusing experience to me. This is now my 3rd hot pot experience. I was actually VERY impressed with this spot. I like that everything is pretty much self serve and that the employees are constantly replenishing items down the line: mushrooms, noodles, veggies, eggs, tofu, etc. The presentation of it all is wonderful too. I appreciate that they kept the display of all the side items neat and while not completely and over flowingly full, it was still full. I think that allows for a lot less mess and so that was nice. Great meat options, freshly sliced in the open-ish kitchen. Solid sauce bar. Soft drink is included, as is soft serve ice cream. Service is attentive, and if you need something immediately just flag down any server and they'll help. What more can you ask for? The shopping center has tons of free parking, as well. We just went yesterday and I've been before for lunch about a year ago, but not for dinner. And I have to say, I was super underwhelmed. The service is below mediocre. They almost serve you as if you were trying annoy them and they really did not to be bothered. The soup bases are also not what they used to be. They're definitely watered down. And the sauces had lemon juice in them almost like a preservative (Peanut sauce with lemon is just ew). On top of that they're supposed to close at 10:00 but they start closing everything down at like 9:15. And I mean everything! Close out the bill, no more broth, soda or juices, refills, nothing. And then they awkwardly stare at you impatiently for you to leave by 9:30. EVEN THOUGH THEY CLOSE AT 10! So just an FYI if you're trying to enjoy your dinner. If they're going to be strange about it they should just close at 9:00. But besides that, it feels like the quality and service has definitely gone down since my last visit and I won't be returning. It makes me really miss Shabuya and I can't wait for them to reopen in Alhambra. Oh one more thing, they have a kids price that's supposed to be by age but because one of my kids is pretty tall they came back and told me the manager said that they're going to disregard her age and charge her as an adult. Luckily I'm someone who always has money to eat, but for parents with tall 9-year-olds like mine, just keep that in mind. I'm fine following whatever restaurant's policy for children's pricing, but you can't flip flop in the middle of someone's dinner service because you have a low turnout for dinner that day and you want to see $20 more on the check.. I've been here a few times and it was fine until.. recently. So I've noticed that the staffs are hard to hunt for. Luckily, we were sitting next the pos and we're able to grab their attention for more meat. However, we had been ordering meat from different servers because of just waiting for our waiter to come by. It sped up the process. We probably got about 8 rounds until older waiter gave us the check but it wasn't time yet! But then we barely got refilled on our broths soo we had wait so we decided to order more meat. We probably had like 15-20 mins left. We ordered another round of meat and we were rudely told that it'll be our last round. So, we ate the last round of meat with our refilled broth and left. Broth options weren't as flavorful although you can mix and match your broth options which is nice. The dipping sauce station was ok but some flavor descriptions were a bit strange where I couldn't figure out what flavor it was. I had to smell them to figure out the flavor. Wished they had an already special sauce like other shabu places like Shabuya or broth. Anyways, they are strict on 90 min time limit and also the ordering of three meat selections at one time. I also like having my own individual pot, so no one yells at me for ruining the soup base, and I can adjust the temperature how I like. Fresh, thinly sliced meats. My favorites were 5. Pork Belly and 10. Beef Chuck Flap (Dinner). They have scallops! They have fish, cut in smaller pieces, so they cook faster. Fresh Self Serve Bar! I usually go to their Irvine location, but I appreciate that this location has their self serve bar next to the kitchen and in smaller containers. Everything looked like it was replaced more often and not left sitting out. Their Kimchi and spicy cucumbers were so fresh, sweet, crispy and delicious. Free soda / iced green and black. 3.8 stars As far as AYCE shabu is concerned, I think this restaurant does a decent job. I can't say that it's the best, but it fulfills hotpot cravings. Additionally, they have filet mignon, ribeye, and lamb (for dinner & weekend). For the base, I chose spicy beef broth, which I thought was ok. It wasn't spicy enough for me, but adding chili oil helps. The unlimited veggies and seafood were quite nice. Notably, the shrimp was a decent size and not the scrawny kind. Fishballs were a bit limited to 2 types, I think. Noodle selection was ok. Veggies are a large selection of napa cabbage, bok choy, kale, spinach, bean sprouts, corn, broccoli, mushrooms, and etc. The kimchi and cucumber kimchi are decent as well. The sauces are create your own and, unless you already have a go-to recipe in your head, it can be quite difficult to know which sauces to mix. So I kinda hope they will eventually stick some recipe posters/stickers/suggestions near the sauce station. The only things I wish they did a better job with was their japchae, other cooked dishes, and amount of meat on the dish. Parts of the glass noodles are hard and clumped together or it's been sitting there too long. The fried rice and gochuchang fried chicken (?) looked dry and could use some refilling. The meat is sliced thinly and quite enjoyable to eat, but when each plate is 6 small slices or between 7-8 small slices, it's hard to like the restaurant more. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. Because it was so busy, my large group got split up to 2 tables on opposite sides of the aisle after waiting a lot longer with the hope of sticking together.
