Absolutely declicious! Upon entering, the place was PACKED. That's how you know its good. We sat and were kindly greeted shortly after. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. He gave us great food and wine recommendations. Everything we ate was so delicious. Honestly, I'm in love with the apps. Avoid this place at all costs : 1. We had a dinner reservation for 8:30 and didn't even get a table until 9pm 2. We ordered 3 small plates and a bottle of white wine. We finished our small plates and wine arrived after that. It was also luke warm. My guess is that they didn't have the wine chilled and hence the delay. It would have been better to just tell us and have us pick another bottle 3. We ordered pastas and main courses thinking they would course it. Everything arrived at the same time. 4. I had to go to the bar the get the wine list to order another wine 5. To top it off once the bill comes, it has a note that there is an additional 3% surcharge for card. What do they expect? When a prior Saturday night dinner reservation didn't pan out, we were desperate for a Plan B. A quick internet search led us to Ambra, and it sounded good so we booked a table. Little did we realize it was only the fourth night since this new West Village gem had opened. Yet you'd think they were long established - service and food was top notch, no learning curves in sight! Our server (hi, Sean, I'm talking to you!) was friendly and welcoming and made spot-on recommendations. Great dinner spot in the west village! Made the reservation a week before with plenty of time options available. We got the focaccia appetizer, pasta dishes, and broccolini all very tasty. The pasta dish was a smaller portion but I was perfectly satisfied after the meal. Drinks were also great. The vibe inside was lively and moody, and I was very impressed by the team working there! Amazing new spot in the WV! We randomly came here on a Sunday evening with a few friends and we all loved it. A couple weeks after that we came back! The service was unmatched. The waitstaff are very familiar with the menu and were able to make appropriate recommendations. Also, I'd like to say that I had the best kale salad ever here!!! Our whole group agreed that it was the best salad we've ever had....and...it's vegan!!! So creamy but also crunchy. We also got the focaccia with 3 dips and it was delicious. The pizza was thin and crispy and perfect for sharing. We also got 3 pastas but my favorite was the eggplant rigatoni! We didn't have a bad dessert and we tried three of them!!! Been to Ambra twice now because the first time was so good! Was seated right on time for our reservation on a Saturday night. Ambiance is on point in terms of lighting and the beautiful bar and is what you're looking for when out in West Village. Everything we got as a party of 5 was truly delicious, next level stuff. The focaccia is a must. Bread is not supposed to taste that good! Octopus was so tender and delicate in the best way. Also a must is the branzino. The definition of light and crispy. And desert is a must with my personal favorites being the chocolate mousse and the apple tart. I also really love their wine and spritz selections! Hands down one of the best restaurants I've been to in the city in a while. Me and my friend went for dinner as a walk in and were immediately seated. We started with the truffle pizza which was absolutely insane - we wanted to order a second one, but figured we would just return as regulars and order again. We then ate the burrata and cacio e Pepe, which were also very good and significantly better than some of your basic Italian spots in the area like via carota. We finished with chocolate mousse for dessert and our waiter Sean gave us a free drink. Wonderful hospitality, we will be back asap. read more

Food was very good (pizza was an exception as was not crisp and hot) - all else very well-prepared. Service was rushed - taking plates away before other guests were finished with the course - and we had made an earlier reservation NOT to be rushed. Went there with old friends and we were trying to reconnect. Even wine glass was picked up before one guest was finished; not acceptable at this price point. Ambience was lovely and having been there before at previous restaurant the restoration inside was tasteful and elegant. But please stop this trend of festooning exteriors with obviously artificial flowers - I know this is now a trend in NYC but it needs to stop. Prices: just a warning that the prices are very high, even for the West Village, and be prepared to spend $100/person even if some do not order an appetizer or dessert. And we had one glass of wine each. Had we each had 2 glasses it would have gotten us up to $130/person. In conclusion, for the new monied set now obviously willing to eat at this price point on their own or someone else's buck. If you are in New York and want to have a transcendent and truly authentic Italian dining experience, you HAVE to start with Ambra! Ambra has some of the BEST ITALIAN CUISINE I've ever had in 11 years living in NYC!! The food is absolutely incredible!! Everything from the main courses to the focaccia bread plate expands your palate and will leave you questioning how food could taste so good. When I go, I order multiple items from each course and everything was leaving me awe-struck, no exaggeration. The absolute stand outs for me are the focaccia bread plate, the octopus carpaccio, the braised short rib ragú, and the branzino!!! I have never tasted fish this delicious, it is the definition of light and crispy and melts in your mouth?? With flavors so clean and clear and complex. The desserts are all out of this world, but the mousse is the sweetest way to end the Ambra ride. All of this is what you would expect from the head chef, John DeLucie, but it exceeds even those expectations, he has truly outdone himself with this extravagant culinary landscape. Chef DeLucie was also actually there and making rounds to all the tables which made everyone feel more special and included! In terms of atmosphere it is the perfect blend of an elevated dining experience mixed with a cozy and welcoming "at home" feeling. The wait staff are all highly knowledgeable, personable, and truly add to the overall experience rather than just being neutral facilitators. Also the wine selection is outstanding, we had a bottle of cab sav whose scent alone was so rich, bold, and full of depth. However we didn't love how rushed it felt - the minute we sat down we felt pressured to order drinks and then had to order all food at once. The main course came while we were still eating the apps. Then because we didn't want dessert the waitress immediately brought the check instead of asking if we wanted another drink. She also was MIA once we ordered food.
