What a neighborhood gem! We love Amelia's so much! The drinks here are some of the best, ever! The decor is dim, sexy & mysterious... love it! They do all sorts of special events during the week. Wednesday's are Flamenco nights & they offer paella for 2 for $30!! And it is delicious! The timba desert takes me back to Cuba with galleta María.... Una delicia! They also offer a cool lounge area. I have to start by saying that entrance is pretty cool. When you enter you think you are entering a laundry mat but keep going the restaurant expanded and took over the old laundry mat and kept at the entrance the aesthetic of it. The restaurant is dim lighting with a nice view of the long bar. The food was pretty good (I think Barbacoa and Finka are better). We ordered pork belly, charred octopus, and filet mignon skewers. My favorite was the pork belly. As a main entree we ordered: Filet mignon with risotto, lomo saltado, and the seared airline chicken. I enjoyed my chicken it wasn't dry, which in some places that's what tends to happen. Unfortunately, my friend with the filet mignon didn't enjoy it. She had to send it back twice because it was cold and one of the times it was overcooked instead of medium. At the end they brought her another entree recommended by the supervisor, but by that time we were all done with her our food. That same friend had ordered a coke and had to remind the waiter twice because he had forgotten. She was still charged for her food. I know she didn't have a good experience and at the end she was still charged for her food. My other friend the waiter brought her the wrong alcohol drink. So, to say the least the service wasn't up to par. Don't get me wrong the staff was nice, but they made too many mistakes to make the experience delightful. Walking in, you're instantly taken back to the 1930s! Beautiful decor, breathtaking ambiance, and stellar service. Went for our first time for date night, and our server Priscilla was nothing short of amazing. We ordered the dumplings and croquetas to start, and can I just say WOW. Islas croquetas are top notch, but these EXCEEDED my expectations! I could've easily had 10 to myself lol. For our entrees, we ordered the boniato gnocchi & steak frites.. again, 10/10. The boniato gnocchi had the perfect portion, and was sweet and savory. Steak frites were also delicious, and the mango chimichurri really takes it to the next level! I loved my experience at Amelia's 1931. Our server was Evan, and he was truly a delight. The place is amazing, the decor, the ambiance, the MUSIC! Everything is to the T. My fiancé and I had one of the best date nights ever at Amelia's 1931! 10/10 recommend!! Our server, Andres, was wonderful! He was kind, articulate, and well-informed. The drinks were great! We had the Honey Love beer, a couple of glasses of Prosecco, and ended with the BEST Espresso Martini I've ever had!! The food was... CHEF'S KISS! The fusion that Chef Eileen has created is truly something special. All the flavors blended well and the dishes themselves were presented beautifully. We started with the croquetas; that were so good we ordered them twice! For the main course, I had the Seco de Res which was absolutely delicious. The braised short rib was so tender & flavorful. I absolutely loved the risotto it was served over. Although I didn't try it for myself, my fiancé had the Steak Frites and he loved it. He said they cooked the steak perfectly and the mango chimichurri gave the dish a nice twist. For dessert, we had the tiramisu which was somehow both thick + fluffy, and tasted great. Lastly, the ambiance... A mix of modern and traditional. They managed to create an environment that was both romantic and fun. And I could go on! Overall a spectacular experience! Don't be fooled by this restaurants location, from the outside what looks like a hole in the wall of an old shopping mall, is quick to transform into an experience in a world of it's own, all you have to do is open the door & walk in. As soon as you walk in you are presented with what looks like a laundromat and the host's corner for check in. The host was sweet & seated us quickly, walking us through a red rope, and seating us in our table with a great view of the restaurant. The restaurants decor is amazing, if you close your eyes, you can definitely be transported to another time period. At our table we were greeted like family by our kind waiter, Ashlynn. Service was great, she was super informative in regard to the menu and her recommendations were on point. The drinks were delicious & packed a punch, wide variety & unique menu. The food was delicious, they nailed the flavors of the fusion. My recommendation of "must haves": oxtail dumplings, the oxtail & tamal in casuela, & the coconut cheesecake. We had a great dinner & look forward to coming back to try everything else in the menu. Yes, we mean it, everything else on the menu LOL. I had visited Amelia's when they first opened and later on visited for lunch and loved the dishes, however I had not visited after their remodeling. Wow not only do they have amazing food, but now when you walk in you feel like you stepped back in time. Havana in the 1930's. When you step into the restaurant it looks like a laundromat but when they pull clothes to the side you enter in a beautifully decorated restaurant with its focal point being the bar. What a vibe. We had the pork belly and queso frito which was delicious. For entree I had the boniato gnocchi which was so amazing. I've never tasted anything like it. The sauce topped with the Parmesan crisp was divine. The other entree was the Steak and Frites which was cooked to perfection. Another epic dish was the Asian Pear Cobbler. OMG. I will order this dessert when I visit again. The pear was tender and sweet, paired with vanilla ice cream. Wow. Loved it. Definitely recommend Amelia's. read more

The only reason why I'm not giving this a 5 star is because the hostess gave me a poor answer. Call me bratty, but my party of 3 requested a booth and were told booths are only for larger parties. When all the parties sitting at 3 booths were the "larger" parties of 2. She couldn't give me a better explanation than that but I'm not going to make a big fuss about a booth. However I will write this review, overall food was great. Highly recommend the umami escargot and the halibut was just *chefs kiss*. Had a great sauce to them and was a perfect start off for the night The ambience and aesthetic of this Cuban inspired roaring 20s ask restaurant was very fitting with the decor, the music and the warm, welcoming feeling you get by friendly staff, their service and their attention. I believe our waiter was name, William and I'm not a fan of really going with what the waiter says, but everything he told us to get was on point he was well-versed on the menu and had great options for us.. Had to go with the escargot. I had an amazing garlic seasoning, and it was very different than something you get in traditional restaurants throughout South Florida. We also had the pork belly with a side of queso Frito, which was so odd to have but the mixture of salty and crunchy with the softness of the cheese, was phenomenal. I like the pairing, because it was just out of the ordinary. In addition, one of the main courses, we shared a steak and fries. The sauce of the steak was tangy,smoky and almost like a barbecue style thickness.. fries on point, crunchy and soft all at the same time. The dish of the day had to be the Lomi Salado with risotto. I want to go back just for that plate. It was very very good All in all a great experience definitely a place you should go back either now or during Miami spice.. and a happy hour specials are great too. We visited on a Sunday night for my husband's birthday, along with us were my 3 kids (ages 12, 15, and 8...they made an exception as the restaurant does not take kids younger than 10 years old). I could see why when we walked in, the ambiance sets a very romantic mood - low dimmed lights, fine dining tableware, etc. It was beautiful inside with a cute homage to the dry cleaners they overtook to make the space bigger. We went because my husband was set on the menu he had seen on yelp (Cuban nachos, frita, etc). They had none of that on the new menu as they revamped it after re-opening. We tried at least 10-13 plates. EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious. Some of my favorites were the coffee martini with a hint of bustelo, the tuna tataki, the oyster clam chowder and the risotto lomo saltado. My kids left nothing behind either as they ate the corn chowder with Cuban bread, the steak frites, and the chicken skewers. My husband loved the shrimp noodles and the tamal en cazuela (which was a little salty but overall good). We tried all 3 desserts that they had for the night (Timba, tiramisu, and the peach cobbler) the first two desserts are unmatched. Service was detailed and on point. It was pricey for a family of 5 but it was a great experience, will visit yearly for a date night or special occasion for sure! read more

If there was a "most improved restaurant/bar award", this is the undisputed champion. Not only did they expand the space noticeably, but they completely remodeled it to the point that you will feel out of place if not properly dressed. The kitchen and bar are off the charts! Here are some of our favorites, Cocktails: Machu Pikachu, Mezcal you later, Espresso Patronum, Paper plane and I also ordered a custom Mezcal old fashion that was phenomenal. As I thought of what I was going to write about my visit to Amelia's 1931, I said why not borrow their own words as I agreed with them. "Behind an unexpected door lies a fine dining culinary journey & cocktail experience curated by Chef Eileen Andrade, highlighting Classic Latin Flavors mixed with Asian Influence and the art of Craft Cocktails." I have been waiting for the re-opening and expansion of Amelia's 1931 for a while. While I enjoyed the experience of dining at the smaller Amelia's in West Dade, I must say I loved the vibe of the new and renovated venue. From the moment you walk into this speakeasy setting to the dining experience itself, it was great! We were sat at a fabulous booth with rich and eclectic textures of fabric. Great look! We started with great craft cocktails followed by three selections from the "Opening Act" (appetizers). We ordered the Filet Mignon Anticucho Skewers made with Aji Amarillo, Salsa Criolla and Choclo; the Umami Butter Escargot; and the Tuna Tataki made with Bluefin Tuna in Chili Garlic Ponzu, Yuzu and Nori. All three completely different, extremely delicious and highly recommended. For the "Main Event" (entree), we ordered and shared the Braised Oxtail over Tamal en Cazuela; the Lomo Saltado with Ají Amarillo Risotto; and the Steak Frites. Again, all three dishes were savory and rich in flavor. For dessert, we selected the three choices presented. Not only were all three extremely different in taste and texture, but they were fabulous in their own way. A coconut cheesecake, pear a la mode with ice cream and a guava marmalade with pieces of guava over a creamy, mousse like creation with Maria crackers served in a martini glass (it looked and tasted decadent). We ended our evening in "La Sala," a newly created lounge area where the original Amelia's sat. We enjoyed cortaditos and espresso martinis. Laughter was definitely not in short supply all evening. It was wonderful to see Chef Eileen and some of the former Finka bartenders. Kudos to our server who was knowledgeable and professional and the team assisting her. So glad to have Amelia's 1931 reopen with this new speakeasy vibe. We truly need locations like this in West Dade and West Kendall. Can't wait to go back and work my way through the menu. We ordered the pork belly queso frito which were good, and also orders a ceaser salad that had a nice kick. Main dishes where gnocchi which hand a sweet potato taste and the portion was small. We could not find how to enter the restaurant because the main door says 2 doors down and then on the store front glass it says it is a Dry Cleaner/Laundry. When you enter then they have washing machines and clothes to wash... strange. Good service but food is highly spiced and salty. We ordered the best Albarino (Mila) in the right temperature. We also ordered Baby Bok Choy, Umami Escargot, Charred Octopus and Pork Belly Chicharron. Of all of these only the Pork Belly was easy to eat because the rest of the food had too much salt and spices. It was uncomfortable to the palate. Amelia's 1931 has finally re-opened and it has not disappointed. The long wait was worth it. Aside from having a sexy cool factor they knocked it out the park with the food and service. Usually when a restaurant opens or re-opens there are some issues but honestly this was a tight ship. I could t find anything wrong. Service was on their game and the food was honestly "special" I can't remember the last time I had food this delicious at a restaurant. Milly was our waitress and she was absolutely a true delight! The only thing I will say is it was a bit dark in there but I get what they were trying to do. Maybe a candle on the table will help. Aside from that bravo Amelia's! Job well done. Let me just start by saying the service here is outstanding. We came in late one night after a Marlins game (so just visualize how we were dressed). Nobody in our party had come here before so we didn't know there was a dress code (oops). Needless to say, we were not turned away. The manager that was on duty that night was extremely kind and said we were able to dine but in the back part of the restaurant, which we were totally fine with. We were just very grateful that they could accommodate us. The food, I mean do I even have to say anything? It was delicious. I highly recommend the steak fries and the shishito peppers!
