This Mexican food is worth making a stop for. I live in Tucson so I'm picky about my Mexican food. The salsa which accompanied the chips was hot---a good sign to start. I had a combo plate with the best, freshest chile relleno I've ever had; the refried beans were the real deal, fried with a little lard for that wonderful flavor. Taco and enchilada were great! I make the 1200 mile trip from Seattle to Southern California every year. When lucky enough to have roads clear of snow/ice go Highway 395 because of the outrageously good enchiladas at Amigos. I found it by asking a kid along the sidewalk about a "good Mexican food place" and although there are several in Bishop, and I have tried no others, this one is the best. I have lived in SoCal and traveled Arizona, Mexico, New Mexico, etc and have never had enchiladas this good anywhere else. Admittingly I have not tried anything else on the menu....my friend's asada tacos just looked/tasted "okay". GO WITH THE LOBSTER ENCHILADAS ON TUESDAYS!!!! read more

I discovered this restaurant about 20 years ago and was impressed with the excellent food. Just like my mom's cooking, so I keep coming back as often as I can. Our latest visit was late July 2015 as it's as good as ever. The flavor's are perfect, even my child who does not like Mexican food was happy. I'm a fan!! Felt like trying something different last night so I ordered Amigo's CANCUN ENCHILADAS. OMG! What a treat. The filling is a combination of finely chopped mangos, dried red tomatoes, shredded chicken, various other veggies and a very light cheese. Then the two Enchiladas are topped with the most amazing sauce. This restaurant will be our new "go to" any time we're in Bishop. Also feel compelled to mention that the premises are spotless, service is quick, and the servers are pleasant along with professional. Thank you Amigos for this wonderful dining experience. I signed up for Yelp specifically so I could defend this restaurant after reading a bad review. I am a Bishop local and Amigos is where I go when I need Mexican food. Not only is it fantastic for a small town like Bishop -- it is some of the best Mexican food I have eaten ANYWHERE. I love the way they do their rice and beans -- the rice is crusty and the beans have that cojito cheese on them that is so rare in American restaurants. The chips are homemade and tasty and always fresh. Try the tamales -- the smoky jalapeno sauce is AMAZING. The chef does daily specials -- check to see what is cooking! I had some enchiladas once that had mango salsa on them and were just terrific. The only thing I would not recommend is the lobster enchiladas -- I did not care for them, and when I sent them back they did not charge me. Sure, you can go get a ball of cheese with your margaritas at Las Casitas! I'm convinced that is why people like that place --not for the food, but for the drinking atmosphere. But why not get some interesting and tasty food at Amigos? read more

ok ok ok. its good. in fact, it IS as good as it gets. I stopped in here again for a vacation trip w/ the GF - a week-long escape out of LA and we thought we'd get a decent meal at a decent price. There must be some cosmic energy brewing 'cuz there is some damn fine food out there in the world, and I keep finding it. All kidding aside. I and the GF dropped in here on our first night of vacationing in the eastern Sierras. Amigos closes at 9pm, and from personal experience, having lived in Bishop, the entire TOWN basically shuts down soon after 8PM every night... albeit, a few exceptions. (There is no "club life" in Bishop like there is elsewhere) Anyway. There is this thing called a "burrito" - and it's edible. Similarly, yet slightly smaller, is something called an "enchilada". This is what I ordered. Two Pork-filled cancun style enchiladas with rice and beans. Damn. I've never had this much goodness in LA or OC at even double this price... seriously, it was only $9.50 or something - I could've paid 2Xs that here in the southland. This had a chipotle-mango sauce. wholly crap this was damn freekn good. and I had a dark modelo to chase it down. One of the finest dinners at a decent price I have ever had. I'll be back - maybe in a month or a few weeks - we'll see. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! Will NEVER go back!! We asked for some more salsa & the waitress sent this poor young girl back to our table to tell us they ran out. Not five minutes later they seat a family at the table next to us & lo and behold they serve them salsa with their chips!!! WHAT?!?! We confronted the waitress and she claims (head down & not making eye contact) "oh we just got some". LIAR. Amigos is NOT friendly!! Cannot emphasize the total dissatisfaction with this place!!! If you expect to get a second helping of salsa with your chips, you better order something more than water with your dinners. We were in Bishop for the weekend and after a day of hiking we decided on Mexican food for dinner. We were seated right away and chips and salsa came quickly. Everyone was very friendly and the staff was attentive. We tried the chicken taquito dinner and the street tacos with rice and beans. The food was flavorful and they serve a good portion. My family and I stopped by for lunch on our way home from Yosemite. I didn't go in expecting much since the restaurant was called, "Amigos" and I figured the food would be somewhat Americanized. Our waitress was wonderful and friendly. In fact, the entire staff was super friendly and helpful. We were greeted at the entrance and seated immediately. Our drink order was taken and drinks brought to our table just as quick. Our waitress even brought us a carafe filled with extra soda. Chips were fresh and crispy and aside from previous reviews, I thought the salsa was tasty! One thing I don't like is a salsa that tastes like pure tomato sauce. Yuck! She even brought us some diced chiles to accommodate the salsa. I ordered the chile relleno combo that came with a taco. For tacos you have your choice of the type of taco shell and meat. Mexican (soft shell) or American (crispy shell) When the food arrived it looked really good. The beans, rice and chile relleno was surprisingly great!! I ordered a shredded beef crispy taco which initially looked good, but sadly the meat was dry and lacking flavor big time. I took one bite and gave it to my son. I wasn't going to let that ruin my experience with this restaurant because maybe it was an "off" day. The only disappointment is that they don't serve margaritas, but they do serve beer and wine. That was a bummer because we all know that a good Cadillac Margarita is a must with a Mexican meal. I'm giving them a 4 star because there's always room for improvement. We were craving a legit Mexican breakfast on our way back from Mammoth and this place really came through. I had the green chilaquiles with eggs and country potatoes and it was delish! I had the special- baby lobster enchiladas and my wife had vegetarian burrito. Both of us were pleasantly surprised at how good everything tasted. We have lived in the area for over 5 years and always enjoy dinners out here the most. It is possibly THE best Mexican food I've ever had, and we're not talking about stock items like quesadillas and nachos either. Almost all of the recipes use fruit, fresh and dried, to make their specialty sauces different from anything you're used to. The daily specials are awesome. The one drawback is that this restaurant does not have a liquor license so no fresh margs, but we've found the food to be so good that a cold IBC root beer more than makes up for it. read more
