This restaurant is such a treat. First of all, the food is amazing. We ordered 2 entrees as well as a few small plates and everything that we ordered was exceptional. We made a reservation through their website, which was very easy. We drove 40 minutes from fountain valley to eat here and we were running late- we called ahead and they were very understanding about it. We spoke to Tina on the phone and she was an angel. Parking is easy enough. There's a small amount of street parking, but there's a huge garage on 4th and the walk back to the restaurant is less than a block. The service was exceptional. Our waiter Chase was so great. He made great suggestions, helped us make decisions and explained things so clearly. The restaurant is beautiful during the day and I'm sure is also looks stunning at night. It is very wheelchair accessible, and we were absolutely thrilled with our experience. This place does need a lot of work but has serious potential. First of the host needs to really learn how to speak to guests she was really rude to one of the guests wanting to just sit at the bar and have a meal when the place was super empty. He was a walk in and you can tell after being told " just go sit" very loudly the man was uncomfortable. Also, I think some of the employees need better training because there was a lot of simple issues like asking for a egg on the side and not being able to get that down in the system for some reason. They was a lot of complications and misunderstanding between what we wanted to order and had questions about to What we actually got and execution. The menu is also super confusing and sadly if you don't look at pictures on Yelp you will definitely get a lot of things confused because of the way it is written and described. I noticed a few people around us were also surprised they got their order because for example, you thought you were going to get 3 of each item or in some cases didn't know the item was going to be swimming in tomatillo salsa. Now overall I really did enjoy the ingredients and parts of the meal I did feel that a lot of the brunch items just had way too much going on. Loved the fresh breads and overall I think the food coming out was great. But, one thing I can say is that is not forgivable is lack of seasoning especially since some of the egg dishes that came out had No seasoning at all, while some dishes that we ordered just had too much added it making it overpowering. One thing I didn't like either was everyone was almost half way done with their meal While One of us still have not received their meal. A lot of mistakes during our visit and yet we were automatically charged 20% tip. I had a 7 pm reservation but we were seated 30 mins later. After asking what the hold up was we were told the table wasn't done and they were still socializing after having paid the bill. The hostess then told me she would go and hurry them up to leave which is pretty messed up but if that's how you run your business then by all means. It was clear that if we did the same we would get similar treatment (we paid and left immediately after our interrogation over the tip which was under your 2 hr limit as I've seen in the many reviews). The food and ambiance are lovely but that was all ruined by the waiter who definitely made sure they get their 20%! Never have I experienced such embarrassment in an establishment as I did this evening. I was $5 short on the tip because that is what we decided to tip and the waiter called me out in front of everyone at the table asking why I felt the need to not tip 20%. I felt threatened as he hovered over me and the credit machine as if I would be punished if I didn't hit that minimum 20%. It was overall an entirely disgusting experience. Well Pete, maybe it's because I waited 30 mins for a table WITH a reservation? Or perhaps it's because I mentioned to the hostess that we were celebrating a birthday and got no acknowledgment at all? Loved this place! Beautiful decor, fresh and clean, delicious food and superb service. We parked in public lot nearby, which made things easy. This place was recommended to me by a friend and my goodness they did not let me down. The inside is absolutely stunning. The aesthetic and mood is perfect. Our waitress was so sweet, attentive, and helped us navigate the menu. We were unfamiliar with most of the items on the menu but our waitress really helped us pick our dishes based on our tastes! We ordered the traditional musakhan and the fatayer mix. The fatayer mix were flavorful pastries cooked to absolute perfection 5/5. Kai Lei is amazing! Not only does she double as a Lana Del Rey look alike, but she is probably the best server I've dealt with. I was here several weeks earlier and had a terrible experience with a not so knowledgeable, polite or friendly server. We sit, we wait. We wait.... We needed to flag someone down for service. We asked about Happy Hour and abruptly was told "nope no more it's over" we ordered entrees and drinks, great. We wait.... Went here for dinner. Our server, Lily, took great care of us. We were initially going to order the Moussaka, but my pronunciation was off, so Lily asked to clarify whether we meant Moussaka or Msakhan. When she described the Palestinian Msakhan (one of their signature dishes), it sounded so good that we decided to order it instead. The food here is excellent. The restaurant has a nice vibe. It is busy and active, but not too loud. My only small issue with my experience was the coursing of the food. We ordered everything at once and the server seemed to appreciate that, we got our drinks and appetizers quickly. But just moments after the appetizers arrived, we were served the entrées. After the entrées came, we received our salad. I would have preferred to have a few minutes to enjoy our appetizers before the salad arrived and then have a few minutes to enjoy the salad before the appetizer arrived. I guess since gratuities are included, they don't put any thought into coursing the food in a reasonable manner, but they just wanted to get us out of there as soon as possible so they could flip the table. We went here to celebrate my birthday with 20 guests. The whole reason for going to a restaurant was so that it would be an easy fun time for me and my guests. We arrived on time since we were told there would be a hard stop. The hostess refused to seat us until ALL 20 guests arrived. So we had to stand on the street corner even though our tables was sitting empty and our time was ticking away. Once we were finally allowed to sit down. I had to ask repeatedly for champagne glasses and for the champagne to be served to guests and then I had to serve the champagne and water (I also had to ask for the water containers to be refilled multiple times) since our server clearly had other tables he was more concerned about. We also weren't seated at one table our group was split up into two tables which was awkward and disjointed. If I had known were weren't going to be together I would have had the party at our home. We could have all fit around our table at home. When I was speaking to the guests at the other table half way through our time I realized NONE of them had wine glasses! They said they had asked and none were brought. Absolutely embarrassing to find out my guests had not been served wine with their dinner! At the end of our time the bill was brought and instead of quietly handing it to my husband or I he started listing of the cost of everything IN FRONT of our guests. What can I say...Ammatoli's is one of my top spots in Long Beach, if not FAV! I love it so much, I've enjoyed lunches, brunches and dinners. I've brought family and friends and they're always so impressed by their meals each time. Chef Dima is an absolute doll. You can clearly "see" the passion by her restaurants's aesthetics and the "love" that's put in the dishes. I love seeing a woman owned business thrive and this will place does due to how it's run and how amazing the cuisine is! The staff is always lovely and man is this place efficient. Sure there's bumps here and there but these are human beings and not AI. Remember to be kind. We all make errors and nothing was bad enough to be egregious. I'll just add that please make sure staff lets customers know anything outside the standard menu item might have any upcharges. I remember my first visit was a dinner night and we didn't have reservations. They were kindly able to accommodate us and wow, the food blew me away enough that I kept coming to have my Mediterranean fix. I of course started using the reservation system and they are always timely which I appreciate. Sure, you can walk in too as long as there is availability but a reservation will guarantee your spot. My favorite meal is the Moussaka. Magnifique! The kafta kebab is a nice rounded meal since it comes with rice and 2 sides (mutabbal is smokey eggplant deliciousness, tahini salad was refreshing).
