Eating in person vs delivery can be completely different here. It's sort of offensive to receive a stale banh mi with meat that's overly marinated. Like so salty I spit out my food. Suggestion for the owners is to treat your take out and deliveries with as much love as your customers dining in person. Solid Vietnamese food in the Richmond! Bun rieu had a nice clean tomato crab flavor to it. Boosted with lots of fried shallots so you'll get that too with every bite and sip of the soup. Pho was just solid. No frills. Banh kot (we had the one with shrimp) has all the right flavors, only small nit is that I personally prefer them to be a bit crispier. It was a bit doughy texture wise in the inside and thought it could've been cooked a little longer, else it was a lovely starter! After checking out the Night Market on Clement St, we were looking for a place to grab some dinner. With the six of us, we got a consensus for Vietnamese food and someone said there was a place a block away of Geary. The restaurant was about half full when we arrived around 6:30pm. They didn't have a table for six and they set one up for us. The menu consists of appetizers, pho, vegetarian dishes, banh mi, rice plates and bun. Having a craving for pho, I ordered a large (01) Pho Dac Biet, my go-to pho. The bowl had generous portion of beef flank and, brisket, tripe, tendons, beef balls and vermicelli rice noodles and the bean sprouts, basil and lime condiments were on the side. Overall, a good generous bowl of pho. Just wished the broth was more flavorful. My dining companions had pho, five spice chicken, bun with grilled pork and imperial roll and garlic noodles and bbq chicken. They all enjoyed their dishes. Wow! Got take out from An Chi and it was incredible. You could tell they use high quality ingredients as each bite was super flavorful - especially the mint within the shrimp rolls. For takeout on Thursday, October 10th. Husband and I were visiting my father. Father tells us at 7:00 p.m. to go out and pick up some dinner. A Chi closed at 7:45 p.m. so we knew we would need to hurry to put in our order. We finally decided on the popular fresh shrimp rolls, grilled bbq beef garlic noodles, grilled chicken rice combo, and crab/shrimp udon. When we called in, the lady told my husband that they didn't have grilled beef so he changed the order to bbq pork garlic noodles. They didn't have grilled chicken, but bbq chicken. It would take 15 minutes to prepare the order. We were given the 10% takeout discount and she explained that they did have pan stir-fried beef which my husband would have been fine with. We'll order it next time. We started with the shrimp rolls and they were fresh. I had ordered the chicken rice combo because it also came with a fried egg and egg roll. I liked the pickled vegetables with the chicken. The soup for the crab/shrimp udon was hot in terms of temperature. Husband had a hard time holding the bottom of the bag because the soup was hot. Ambiance, Fresh, open and clean. The service is very good. This is a mom-and-pop run restaurant by a young mom and pop. (family run) The sign on the wall explains it all. "Do what you love and love what you do" I have tried many Vietnamese restaurants in the city, and this one is the one I like best. The first thing I noticed about the food is that it was plated so well and was a large portion. I have had many dishes and they are all like this. One of my favorites is the warm beef salad. Not on the menu so you have to ask for it. Pho is good and it comes in a huge bowl. If you are hungry try the rice and pork chop dish with imperial rolls. Heartwarming, hearty, and the right amount of saltiness. The noodles were soft and I ended up crushing the entire bowl. Another gem to the neighborhood, this is one of the few places that serves my childhood food the Shrimp Banh Khot which is very similar to Bahn Xeo but these are tiny bite-size pancakes which you make lettuce wraps with. Recently discovered An Chi after our nearby Vietnamese place was closed on a Monday for day of rest. I have to say we were not disappointed. We ordered the pork garlic noodles, lemongrass pork chop rice with fried egg, the barbecue pork vermicelli and a pho ga. Everything was delicious and they give you a good portion including the meat amount. Service is quick and friendly. I noticed that inside they had good safety practices with each table having a large plastic partition between them. Who doesn't love garlic noodles? I mean, when you have it served up with grilled shrimp, pork or chicken, it doesn't get any better. An Chi was recommended by a friend and I'm so glad to have tried it out. The menu is a bit more extensive than you'd find at other Vietnamese restaurants. There are specialties like Bo Tai Chanh(Vietnamese Carpaccio marinated in lime juice with herbs, fried onion, and peanut), Banh Khot (mini pancakes), and Ca Cuon (Crispy Fish Roll). Also, their pho comes in beef or chicken broth. Ordered the Cha Gio (deep fried rolls), a bowl of Deluxe Pho, Garlic noodles with grilled pork, and Banh Kot Tom (shrimp mini pancakes). Everything was served very quickly and tasted perfect. Service was friendly and beverage cups were constantly refilled. FYI, hot tea is $1/cup. Menu prices were very reasonable for the overall dining experience. Only complaint was that I thought their Thai tea was too sweet but they had a BOGO going on so it wasn't all that bad. Simply put: this place is excellent. For the past several months, I've been coming to this fine establishment and they never disappoint. My usual is their #28 cold vermicelli salad with BBQ Pork (sometimes Five Spice Chicken), and it is SOOOOO DAMN GOOD! Tonight did not feel like cooking... feeling like some garlic noodles. We ordered take out from An Chi. When you call, they always verify that you have reached the Geary Blvd location. Parking is horrible on Geary. There are 2 dedicated Covid pick up only spots in front, but they are usually taken by people not picking up. We learned that this is a tag team job. I drop off my wife to pick up; I circle the block or find a hideaway away a few blocks away and wait for the pick up signal. Its fast and pretty easy to get in and out. I had the Grilled Pork with Garlic Noodle. The pork is really flavorful, but leans a bit to the salty side... however if you dip it into the Nuoc Cham it really cuts the saltiness but adds the some sweet and sour. The garlic noodle is full of garlicky goodness. Could be a bit oily so steal some broken rice and mix it with the noodles. My wife had the Five Spice Chicken with Broken Rice, so I was able to trade some rice for garlic noodles. If you never had broken rice, I suggest you give it a try. It like regular rice, but more fluffy. You get a whole chicken leg... it is so yummy. The leg is slightly dried when cooked, concentrating the flavor... sort of like a really moist jerky. The skin is not fatty tasting but has a rub that is yummy. A bit of skin and a bit of rice... thats the way to go.
