Egg Sando & cold brew transported me back to Japan for a second!
    Dennis R.

Great place for a pick me up at the Japantown Mall! I give them 5 stars alone for the fact that their egg sando and cold brew transported me back to Japan, even if for a few minutes, lol. The egg sando and cold brew were both quite tasty, and the service was quick and friendly, despite being a busy Saturday morning. Been here many times before, and I'll visit again in the future!

    Cappuccino. Cake. Slice.

Cappuccino. Cake. Slice. Needed a quick dessert break. Andersen Bakery came through. Armed with a Soy Latte, I shared a tasty slice of their Cappuccino Cake. It hit the spot for an afternoon sit down. Japantown Peace Plaza mall is a great go to for a variety of dessert stops, Andersen is a great selection. Service was efficient, friendly staff worker. Ample courtyard seating available for a quiet respite. Fairly good options for desserts to choose from. What's not to like for a dessert break?

They open at 9:30am on weekends which is great if you're looking for a place to grab a quick snack in Japantown. Service is friendly. Limited seating. Recommend going early as it gets fairly busy from noon to 3pm. Hokkaido Double Cream Pan: I was expecting the bread to be a bit more fluffy but it was okay. 6.5/10. It was good to try! I wouldn't get it again though. Bacon Mozzarella Polish: This was delicious and perfect for a quick breakfast! 8/10. Would get again! Next time I'd probably try the chicken empanada. It looks like a favorite.

Passed by Andersen Bakery inside the Japantown malls and couldn't resist -- the pastries looked way too good to pass up! They recently launched a collab pastry with Curry Hyuga, a popular Japanese curry spot in the Bay, featuring the Curry Pan. Beef Curry Pan -- perfectly crisp and golden exterior with a warm, gooey filling of rich Japanese curry, packed with onions, carrots, and celery. Deep umami flavor and super satisfying bite. The line was short, and service was friendly and quick -- they even offered to heat up our curry pan! Everything behind the display looked freshly baked and ready to go. There's some seating inside & outside the shop as well making a pleasant lively ambience for eating your pastries. Definitely planning to come back for the cream cheese raspberry pastry or Japanese milk bread next time.

Vegetarian - veggie curry pan. I fell into the hype - glad I tried. Wouldn't order again

*** Vegetarian Review *** Location: A+ Japantown is a must stop Service: A+ Super friendly But the two items I tried were not something I'd pay for parking to get. Veggie Curry Pan ($4.50, Grade C) - They ask at the time if you want it hot or cold. But if you're not taking this to go, definitely have them heat it up. It's a lightly panko crusted bread filled with "custom curry Hyuga veggies." I had to look up what "Hyuga" and discovered it is a highly rated curry shop in bay area. I will say that the curry was good and I'd even say if I were at the Hyuga restaurant and had this was a bowl of white rice, I would like it a lot more. So the culprit was the bread. Although it was warmed, it was very dry. Not quite concha dry, but somewhere between a 2 day old Costco croissant and a fresh concha. Ube Pan (Grade C): I enjoyed the texture and taste of the filling very much, but the bread texture/dryness was similar to what I described above. So, bottom line. If the custom curry Hyuga and ube filling were stuffed inside one of the breads from 85-Degree Bakery (like their choco bun which is delicious), I would rate the two items much higher.

Got the beef curry pan which seems to be one of their more popular options. I appreciated how they asked if I wanted it warmed up! The outside of the bread was tasty but I felt like the curry was too salty and the "beef" was indiscernible. It might as well have been veggie curry. Overall pretty good though and satisfied my hunger. Their pastry offerings looked pretty good as well. Service is extremely quick.

Go just for this dessert! Crunchy on the outside and soft screams on the inside. Perfect for sharing. Fun spot in the center of Japan Town, Ess Eff. #spicemeister approved.

I am disappointed I come here to try the curry hyuga , I have the beef favor it was ok. bread was greasy and dry. we also have the ube melon pan. Very dry and too sweet for me

We got a chocolate chip cookie, raspberry and cream cheese danish and a vanilla iced latte. It was reasonably priced, delicious and the service was fast and friendly. The chocolate chip cookie is underrated and could be on my list of top 5 ever. Not sure I want that information to get out there but I had to tell the world.

The service is really great and the woman working behind the counter was very accommodating. She let us have samples and even gave us a full size beef curry pan. It was heated perfectly, crunchy on the outside but soft and chewy beef on the inside. I'd give it a 3.5/5. I got the egg salad sandwich for less than $8 and I'd give it a solid 4/5. They have seats inside and outside. It's inside the Japantown mall so there's plenty of seating around.

Our go to place for coffee and some pan when we're in J-town up here in San Francisco. Tried the Hokkaido bread with matcha along with my iced americano. Nice friendly staff that handles their all day rush with a smile. This location is inside a shopping center so you can window shop while you enjoy your snack.

Located on the 1st floor of the Japan Center West Mall, this outpost of the Bay Area based Japanese bakery chain serves up a variety of drinks, lunch items, and pastries. I was in the mood for a savory snack while walking around Japantown, so I decided to try the Japanese Beef Curry Pan ($4.15): According to its website, this is #4 best seller but I thought it was mid. +Hot and crispy -Inside of bread was dry: Could be d/t fact it was kept in a warmer. -Filled with a small amount of salty curry -Very greasy on the outside Side notes: 1.) Self-serve hand sanitizer and napkins 2.) Tables available inside and around the mall 2.) Walking distance from MUNI 38/38R bus stop *Verdict: 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 d/t service. The cashier offered me a hot one from the warmer vs. the cold ones lying out. Service was friendly and efficient, and tables and chairs were clean.

Every time I come to J-town, I think about taking a break from going to the same places like Maruwu Seicha and Matcha Café Maiko. But, I couldn't stop having any matcha drinks every time I see the word "matcha" on the menu. Even some of the pastries from Anderson Bakery have the same honorable flavor. I almost couldn't decide which pastry I go for, and some of the specials were sold out, including the the curry pan. That's fine as long as I needed a quick refreshment before exploring further and head home.

It ended up taking us over two hours to get our pastries, and by the time we reached the front, some items had already sold out. This time, we decided to arrive right when the line opened at 7:45am on a Friday. Personally, I'd rather get there early, wait a little over an hour, and have the first pick of pastries than arrive later, wait even longer, and risk missing out on items. We were the third party in line and placed our order around 9:05am. By 9:15am, we had our pastries and drinks. After our first visit, I wasn't completely convinced the wait was worth it. The pastries were good, but the long line and wait time didn't feel justified. This visit, however, may have changed my mind. We ordered: * Madame Lorraine * Chorizo & Tot Croquiche * Morty P * Strawberry Vanilla Bean Bun * Pistachio Cardamom Sugar Croissant * Rocky Road Double Chocolate Cookie * Classic Croissant We also got two drinks: the S'mores Mocha and the Cherry Vanilla Almond Cappuccino. Don't skip their drinks, their specialty coffees are just as creative as their pastries. I really appreciate their rotating menu. Their pastries are always so creative, and I love that they experiment with unique flavor combinations that you don't typically see at a bakery. Some items are definitely more memorable than others, but I enjoy that there's always something new to try. Their pastries are well executed. The croissants are flaky and buttery. This visit, my personal favorite was the Chorizo & Tot Croquiche. Overall, this visit was a much better experience than my first. If you're willing to wait in line, I think it's worth checking out. Otherwise, you can always try your luck with their Hotplate presale.

*** Takeout Only and Cash Only ***…read more Pineapple King Bakery is a popular bakery that specializes in Hong Kong-style baked goods and drinks. The bakery was pretty quiet when it first opened, but after COVID it gained popularity on IG and now there is almost always a short waiting line here. There is also another location in Fremont. [Parking]: Metered street parking only and the shop is located in a busy part of the neighborhood (Irving Street Chinatown aka the "Third Chinatown"). I got lucky and immediately found a 30-minute metered parking spot nearby. [Ordering]: There was a short waiting line, but luckily it moved fairly quickly. Be prepared to place your order as the staff did not really answer my question when I asked "What are the most popular items here?" Customers can also place online pickup orders via the bakery's website. [Menu]: Per Pineapple King Bakery's Top 10 Items list and Square online menu, some of the most popular items include Guava Butter Pineapple Bun and Croissant Egg Tart (Portuguese egg tart). All drinks come with a complimentary Pineapple Bite. *** Egg Custard Tart (regular HK egg tart - $2.35): A solid egg tart, but it wasn't very flaky and tasted cold. Croissant Egg Tart (Portuguese egg tart - an upgrade of the traditional egg tart with croissant crust and caramelized top, $3.90): Definitely an upgraded version of regular egg custard tart and the croissant crust made all the difference. Guava Butter Pineapple Bun (one of our most popular items - cold, sweet, and smooth butter inside a warm pineapple bun - $4.65): S-tier bun with a soft & pillow-like texture. Hot Hong Kong Milk Tea drink with a complimentary Pineapple Bite (small, regular sweet - $5.25): I sampled the drink and it had the right balance of slight black tea bitterness and a hint of milk with just the right amount of sweetness. *** Top-notch pineapple buns and I can definitely see the appeal. Now that I know the drink comes with a complimentary Pineapple Bite, I actually prefer pairing the Pineapple Bite with the drink rather than ordering pineapple buns with various fillings on their own.

The croissant egg tart was also good, nicely flaky and crunchy, and the egg filling was thick and creamy. Overall, fresh and tasty goods! Big sizes and good prices. I've always wanted to try this place since I see a line every time I walked by. There's a lot of foot and car traffic. It's definitely a busy area so expect to park in one of the nearby residential areas or be extremely and walk/bike/bus here! Upon stepping into the tiny shop, I was enveloped in the sweet smell of chocolate chip cookies. It was tempting to put that in my bag, but I stuck with my game plan. They do self serve for all the baked goods and drinks except the pizza and focaccia. You tell the cashier what you grabbed. There's self serve complimentary water on the side too. Got a pecan swirl, one of each square focaccia flavors, and a half pizza (hot). The pizza flavor of the day was triple mushroom with sesame ginger garlic vinaigrette and mozzarella. It was 10/10 delicious!! Do note that they don't heat up the focaccia. Personally, after tasting everything, I'd say the pizza is more worth it than the focaccia "pizzas". The pecan roll was quite addicting too. You can also skip the line if you want to order online on their website and schedule a pick up time, but my gift card didn't work so I just waited in line.
