On Aqua last night and the food was beyond amazing, and the service was impeccable. Our server went out of our way to make sure all of our needs were met and had to be one of the nicest servers I've ever had when you walk in the restaurant is stunning. The bar is definitely a main masterpiece. Definitely a perfect spot for a date night or a dinner out with friends. We just got back from our Anniversary dinner at Aqua, where we had a 10pm reservation. Upon arrival, the host had us wait for 5 minutes at the bar and then sat us. The waitress took our order, and then another joker came over and said, "the kitchen was closed". I guess the first two geniuses didn't get the memo. And why would you allow people to make a 10pm reservation if your kitchen closes 15 minutes later? Hmmm....how many adjectives can I use to describe this brilliance. 1. I will NEVER go to this restaurant again, EVER! 2. Hutong was my favorite Chinese restaurant in NYC (same owner). I will NEVER go there again either just out of spite! Din Tai Fung anyone! Warning: listen to the negative reviews. Because the favorable one's are probably from friends, family and employees. This place is new and they are tripping over themselves. We just wrapped up mother's day and while the overall experience was great, just the blatant overcharging is a caution for anyone to go here next. Ordered an egg fried rice, as basic as it can get, and they had the audacity to charge $45 for a seafood fried rice, but excluded all the seafood because we had requested only eggs, so to do us a favor, they modified it but charged us 45. Didn't tell us before, and at the time of billing, wanted to quickly get our cards charged so we don't get to see their bullshit. I'd avoid this place like a plague and while I don't expect an apology from these kind of establishments, but you are better off taking your 500 to thousands of other better professionally run establishments. read more

Went for Anniversary dinner on a Wednesday night to try one of the newest restaurants in NYC and won't be running back. The bus boy had the most personality out of any of the abundance of people that worked there and we came in contact with, food was ok but also not much of a personality either. Terrified to think what a Friday or Saturday rush would be like!! Aqua is mostly a lot of employees running around trying to figure out the complex systems of this restaurant which clearly aren't worked out while the guests sit waiting for service with a smile. Sat in the very loud main dinning room and if you're looking for a nice meal this isn't the place for you. Entrees come at different times as the sides, drink orders come at different times with a long delay between for both, was even mistakenly offered several items that the tables around us ordered...those tables were also having issues. Back sushi bar looked quieter and might have better service which I might try after a few months for them to work out the kinks. read more

Massive scale of Aqua New York originated from London introduces Italian and Japanese cuisines at the same time with extensive drink menu opened NYC. Huge bar with the impressive interior with the golden ropes seaming from the floor to the ceiling attracts walk ins and dinners waiting for tables. Cocktails were decent and of course moved on to champagne for food but the menu was little confusing. They have Italian menu in the beginning and the Japanese menu in the back. Nothing intriguing in the menu but ordinary, only pricier than elsewhere. Sashimi platter was disappointing in fish selection and also the quality. Ordered all Crystal Sushi menu and found this style somewhat interesting. 2 pieces each of Botan ebi and avocado with ponzu jelly, Scallop and caviar with kimchi jelly, Ama Ebi and salmon with tsuyu jelly totaling 6 pcs of their entire Crystal Sushi (maki) menu wasn't worth for $67. We ordered a lot of a la carte, edamame, table side spinach, crystal sushi, sashimi platter, salmon scallop maki, fried cod with caviar, four different skewers, pizza etc and several cocktails and two bottles of Bollenger champagne. Ambiance and their waiting staffs and sommeliers were great but when it comes to foods, meh had better. Musi got louder with neon lights beamed in to the night definitely suggesting it's a good place for partying with drinks, almost reminded me of Tao. read more

We were greeted promptly and given a very nice table. Our waitress was very friendly, but when asked for recommendations seem to select the most expensive dishes. We ordered focaccia and a rigatoni dish. The focaccia was the thinnest I've ever seen and had little flavor. The pasta dish was presented nicely however, it was very small serving. We really wanted to love this restaurant. The space is gorgeous and the waitstaff is very attentive. We were curious about the dual Italian vs Japanese menus, but the both ended up being disappointing. The food was mediocre at best and neither menu had focus. The cocktail program was a disaster, and they would benefit from hiring a mixologist to do a total cocktail menu overhaul. Overall, a disappointing experience and we probably won't return unless we notice a menu change. read more

Overall we were underwhelmed with Aqua. I live in the neighborhood and was excited to have a new and seemingly cool spot open. The atmosphere is pretty good. House music and more of a vibe you'd expect in meatpacking which I liked. The service is the weak spot. Our server did not know the menu at all. Since there are two entirely different cuisines and some unique items (tip: skip the crystal sushi) we hoped to hear about some of the dishes. Drink menu, same lack of knowledge. I would go back and sit at the bar but never for dinner. This place is huge and if this service is typical I expect a short run. Edited to add, they initially sat the 2 of us at a huge 6 top. The place was not crowded and more intimate 2 tops were everywhere. They moved us upon request but I'm not sure why they sat us there at all. read more

all i can say is... what the hell? came in on a saturday evening for dinner, and as a concept, this place has the potential to be a great restaurant. however, they need severe help with their staff. you'd have much better luck going to sugarfish down the block (lol)... this place is an absolute laughing stock of a restaurant. for starters, the hostesses claimed they were fully committed for the night. my party and i went on their website to see if there were any open reservations, and lo and behold, there were MANY open reservations for the night. we were able to book a table within 15 minutes of arriving. NICE GUYS!!!! /sarcasm -_- hahahah i'm laughing because i really can't even do anything but laugh in this situation because it gets even better... we moved from the bar to our table to wait a literal 45 MINUTES for our server to come take our order. on top of that, the "lovely" lady took 2 minutes to even find our menu item on her tablet. we ordered 3 omakase orders by the way. anyway, after ordering and waiting what felt like aeons for our food, the server only brought out ONE of our orders. so... on top of being slow as hell, they can't even get your order right. maybe try this place after they've had some time to establish a good working process. as of right now, they seem understaffed and uneducated about their own menu. read more
