Half a roast duck, chicken with vegetables pan-fried noodle.
    Lara C.

For Father's Day lunch, thought I'd order Chinese takeout from Asian Mix. My parents are regulars, but I hadn't been in a while, so I gave the establishment a whirl. Phoned in my order twenty minutes prior to the appointed pickup time, and voilà, my order was ready when I arrived, boxed to go and piping hot! As Joyce mentioned in a previous review, Asian Mix has blocked off their doorway: the cashier is there, so you can't go in the business, per se. There are two lines: L side to order, R side for pickup. If you're ordering on the fly, I advise that you keep a copy of the menu handy (http://www.hiasianmix.com/a-la-carte.html). Otherwise, you'll need eagle eyes to see their menu signage! We ordered a lot of food: chicken and vegetable with pan-fried noodle, half a roast duck (they give sauce in a separate container), eggplant and pork in garlic sauce (this is basically yuxiang eggplant, not too spicy), choy sum with oyster sauce, lamb with fresh leeks, Singapore Noodles, and rice for 6 people. Everything was terrific: fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned, not overly-sauced. For me, two outstanding dishes were the duck, which was exceptionally meaty, juicy, and flavorful with crackly skin (no need for the sauce, because the duck was good as is! Hong Kong style, as advertised!), and the lamb with fresh leeks, which our family devoured: no leftovers for the latter! Bill came out to $115, and we still had leftovers, even with four hungry people. We definitely could've fed 6-7. Asian Mix for the win!

So many yelpers yelp about this place. So since we had a pickup at safeway we decided to pick up lunch here. We ordered the sweet sour pork and beef chow fun. It was both good. Their ordering system is great one line to order and next side for the pick up. Luckily they have chairs to sit and wait for your orders. They do give alot. We came when they just opened. But they are busy with take out and ordering there. Will be back again.

We visited Asian Mix located in the same place as Safeway Beretania. Known for their Roasted Meats. We tried the Gon Lo Mein and Roast Pork. The Roast Pork was done perfectly. Crispy Skin and moist and tender inside. The Gon Lo Mein was okay. It was freshly made, but was missing something. It was similar in taste and texture to Fried Saimin. Their interpretation of Gon Lo Mein didn't match our flavor profile. Service was efficient. Take out only. They've taken away the small area of tables and chairs. Worth a visit just for their "Roasted" meats.

Such a solid spot for yummy, comforting Chinese food. The beef choy sum was simple but done perfectly -- tender slices of beef with fresh, crisp-tender greens in a light savory sauce. It tasted clean and well-balanced, not greasy at all. The garlic eggplant tofu was one of my favorites. The eggplant was silky and soaked up all that garlicky sauce, and the tofu added a nice hearty texture. Super flavorful and satisfying. The house fried rice was packed with ingredients and had that perfect wok hei flavor. Each bite had a good mix of protein and veggies, and it wasn't overly oily like some places can be. And the roast duck -- crispy skin, juicy meat, and rich flavor. Definitely a must-order. Everything came out hot and fresh, portions were generous, and it felt like true comfort food. I'll definitely be back when I'm craving classic Chinese dishes done right.

We were in town, felt like eating Chinese food and heard about their roasted meats so decided to give it a try. So many selections to choose from so I asked the worker there and he suggested the 4 meats that I could choose from over rice. The choices were Roast Duck, Roast Pork, Cold Ginger Chicken and Char Siu. I ordered all 4...2 in each plate so we could taste all. We liked the Roast Pork and Cold Ginger Chicken...both were tasty but I thought here was more fat than meat for the Roast Pork. I did like the crispy skin...yum! As for the other 2 meats, there was more bone than meat for the Roast Duck as expected but it was tasty. The Char Siu had a different texture that I'm not used to so I didn't care for it...don't think I'd order this again. Spoke to a friend about this place...she recommended the Honey Roasted Spareribs with a side of Choi sum so I'll try that next and other selections! I looked over their menu after I put in my order and saw quite a few items I wanted to try so I'll be back! Lots of parking below Beretania Safeway. This place is also located below Safeway. The guy that helped me was nice and didn't rush me to order...really patient which I appreciated a lot!

Niece from California, brought takeout crispy Gau gee noodle from Asian Mix & I really enjoyed it! The noodles were so delicious and the crispy Gau gee was filled with plenty of pork filling. Four came with the order. Vegetables were plentiful & tasty! If ever in the area, will stop for more good Chinese food!

Asian Mix - I believe - has been an original tenant when they built the Safeway on Beretania Street. I haven't been here since the pandemic. It is strictly takeout as all tables are gone. Got the Crispy Chicken Plate. Portion was generous. Taste was good....there were a few dry pieces. Salt was provided in a separate 2 oz. container. Rice was a bit old and provided in a separate paper container. Daily hours are from 10a to 10p. Lots of parking in the Safeway parking garage.

It's just a counter to order. No where to sit. Roast duck is to die for. Juicy, meaty, just the right saltiness, fatty. On a bed of hot rice, cushioned in blanched choisum I couldn't ask for more.

A 1-star review says "Not good" per Yelp. It was NOT GOOD. I'm not sure what happened since the last time I visited Asian Mix. New owners? New chef? Main chef on vacation? Changed business practices and decided efficiency and low cost over quality and time? Everyone working there were not the same people since my last visit. I wish I checked some of the recent reviews before I came here, especially the one from Akemi O. with the photo of the excess amount of oil in the fried noodles! That was the experience I got from the Country Style Rice Noodle. It was a generous amount, but this made me sick for two days. The noodles were oily! The dish was felt and ate like it was all premade, mixed around, dumped some reused oil, warmed, and just sits in a pan. NOTHING felt like it touched a wok. Zero wok heat, no char on anything--not even the slightest. The noodles were still a little hard, onions were bright white, bell peppers ate raw, and the char siu was just sliced in there, and also plenty of oil at the bottom of the box. Yikes! Also ordered the Chicken with Vegetables. I have never seen it served this way before. It's like they just put the vegetables on the bottom of the box and poured chicken on top of it. You can obviously tell by the clumped-up corn starch/water mixture around the dish. The sauce on the chicken stuck together while the bottom of the box was watery from the vegetables. Taste was weird. Chicken was bland and had a weird texture. Vegetables were okay, but on the hard side. The prices have gone up quite often recently too. It used to be very affordable as it was only a takeout place. Now it's almost the same price, or even more expensive than at a sit-down restaurant. Sigh, I'd like to know what happened. Preparation and cooking are very off. Sorry, can't consider coming here any time soon.

Fried Noodles - Lot of oil.

Well you don't go to Chinese restaurants for friendly service, and you don't get it here either. But they are fairly efficient...well the older ones. Younger ones...well let's just say they are a work-in-progress. Wanted cake noodles. Not an option, so got fried noodles with chicken and choy sum. You can't eat there, so got the sauce separate...makes sense right? No sense order fried noodles to eat it all soggy. But 50 cents extra to split it. All Chinatown Chinese already assume take out will be separated...maybe it's already factored in and everyone pays it. Whatever but it just looks shady when you charge for something that should be done anyway. Not much taste. Lot of gravy for very little flavor. Baby liked it after I dunked it into a different dish I had from Chinatown. Lot of oil in noodles but to be expected...not much noodles either though. Convenient location. But the birds outside. BLEH. I guess makes it like Chinatown...

Asian Mix is where I go when I want to eat Roast Duck. The flavor is good and the pieces are meaty and not just bones. We also like their Roast Pork and Char Siu here, and it's not salty like it is at other places. They often are out of duck if you call too late, so best to call early if you know you want to order it.

Asia Mix is a no frills take out Chinese restaurant conveniently located with covered parking shared by Safeway. This place is always busy. The staff are not necessarily rude..just efficiently brusque ensuring everyone orders, pays and picks up. There is no seating to enjoy your meal. People seem to order meals for dinner or lunch. Prices are reasonable and they give a good amount of food. I do honestly feel that the food can be hit or miss. We recently ordered beef chow fun and a garlic eggplant tofu dish. The noodles were fresh and the beef with vegetables tasted good loaded with brown gravy. We enjoyed the garlic eggplant tofu dish. Food came out quickly and so it was nice that the wait wasn't too long . The take out window is located near the road so it's noisy. It's a very utilitarian type of Chinese food establishment. Lower dining expectations and just enjoy the food.

Saimin. Guy let me have this for $4.99 w/o the won tons.

This Chinese takeout place is pretty popular and legit. Their food is always hot and fresh! Fast service and practically everything is delicious. The prices are reasonable and the portions are good! These are my favorite: * Lamb and leek. Lamb was tender and tasty. * Char siu, duck, ginger chicken and roast pork were really good. They are somehow related to Mei Mei in the Maunakea Marketplace and both side are good! * Orange chicken- the sauce is packed separately was on the side, but I like the chicken without the sauce lol. * Pot Roast chicken - 1/2 chicken with little mushroom, carrots and broccoli. The sauce was tasty and the chicken was tender. Mom liked this dish too! * Crispy gau gee mein- theirs somehow don't have shrimp inside like other places, but I can't have shrimp, so it's fine with me. * I love the eggplant with minced pork and tofu. The 3 item dish was not on the menu, and the eggplant was either with pork or tofu but the lady let me have the three together . It's spicy good! It's probably the best one I've tried. Sometimes I think the eggplant doesn't like me especially it's a shaded plant. Consuming too much will make my stomach turn. * Crispy gau gee- you can order a 4 piece order and don't have to buy a ten pieces or a dozen! Please check them out. Right downstairs of Safeway Beretania in the parking lot across T-Mobile! They have many customers and this is a take out only place.

    Do they do Kalbi ribs?

    No Kalbi ribs

I can't find the menu so I can order in advance. How do I know what to order?

Please call them for their daily menu and to place phone orders. They are not partnered with UberEats or Door Dash at this time.

Do they use msg in their food?

Spoke the the cashier this afternoon and he said that if asked they could reduce the amount of MSG used in their dishes but could not guarantee no MSG as many ingredients used in Chinese cooking (not only at Asian Mix) contain some MSG.

Can I make a take out order the day before or do they only take same day orders?

I would think order on day of pick up, but order early as when you go to pick up you usually have to wait. It’s frustrating...sometimes we order an hour before pickup but when we get there they didn’t have our order ready.. just be aware.

Since this is a carry out place, is there a place to eat close to the restaurant. I'll be coming by Uber?

yes,, this place is located UNDER the Safeway.. There are several tables adjacent to this place, convenient and clean too.

Do they offer steam buns to eat the roast duck with? If not, any tips on where to find? I need some roast duck after looking at those pics!!

You prob gotta go to a restaurant for that. Asian mix is more of a take out joint. Try call golden duck on king street across of Zippys. I like their food too!

Is there any delivery from this location?

Not that I have seen from them. Safeway now delivers- so if they can from a driver you know then maybe - otherwise no.

The first time I've ordered almost a week ago was the pork hash, garlic green beans, mabo tofu with noodles, rice noodle and dumplings, and a pork belly dish with rice (can't remember the name). My favorite has to be the rice noodle cake with dumplings. It had peanut sauce and even reheating it on the stove made it satisfying to eat as leftovers. Each dish had between 6-8 pork and shrimp dumplings. The portions are generous which is enough for two meals. The pork hash came in 3s with the hot mustard and shoyu. Again these were good as well and not as oily and greasy. The pork belly was stringy and the rice was meh. It tries way too hard to copy Tom Khem which is a Laos dish. My mom had the tofu dish and after a while she did mention that the noodles got mushy and had no flavor. Then again she had to take a blood test so she had to watch her salt intake. I also tried the tofu and it was soft and not overly salty. The second time I ordered which was today, I replaced the rice dish with the char siu noodle soup and it was so good. It was the right portion size and the hot broth that's separate from the contents help soften the noodles. I also ordered coconut pudding and even though I have yet to try it, my mom said it was really good so I'm looking forward to it. Edit: I have now tried the coconut pudding and it was a generous portion. A nice refreshing and cold treat especially since we are now in the summer season. There is just a hint of coconut flavor though and shredded coconut flakes don't exist but it's still worth eating as a dessert or a snack. On both orders, I've ordered garlic green beans and it was the best tasting garlicky green beans I have ever tried. Overall, this place does serve good food but I'll probably skip the rice dishes and focus more on the noodle dishes and their sides.

We proceeded to order our entire meal quickly since we often eat at Chinese restaurants and generally know what we felt like eating for us and our kids. Around 3:30 (10 min or so after we ordered ) the server came back and told us they are out of 1/3 of what we ordered which included picking duck and look fun. Again very odd on a Sunday afternoon. So we kept what they did have available and continued to wait. At this point still waiting for our waters. As the sitting went on we observed a table who sat after us get their waters food and everything they asked for quickly. We waited almost 20 minutes for water and rice that we had to ask for multiple times. The rice still wasn't brought out until almost 30 minutes in, which was after 3 items from our order was brought out at very slow rates compared to other tables who we overheard ordering. We also needed to cancel our crispy noodles that we ordered for the kids as it was going on 45min and the last thing left on our order although it was the first item on our receipt and the first item requested. Overall the flavor of the food was good and the only reason I gave stars, however my family and I felt borderline discriminated against and service was very bad. I do not recommend this place for anything other than takeout.

The dim sum here is very good, and the piece are larger that other places. The service was friendly…read moreand efficient. The food came out quickly and hot. Our favorites are the siu mai and fried shrimp balls, the shrimp balls have these noodles on the outside which make it super crispy and fun to eat. There was plenty of parking in the basement; but the weird thing is the elevator doesn't go back down to the basement, we had to go around the building and walk down the parking ramp!

They moved across the street from their old location, so we decided to check it out. My mom, hubby,…read moreson and I had breakfast here on a Saturday morning and it was packed. The restaurant wasn't small, but there were just a lot of people. We waited about 20 minutes for a table. What's great about this place is that they have these paper menus. You can check off what you want while you're waiting. As soon as you get seated, you can just hand over the menu to the server and it makes the process a lot faster. It didn't take that long for us to get our food. We ordered a lot of items. We got the shrimp dumplings, black bean spareribs, beef look fun, Shanghai pork dumplings, steamed salted egg custard buns, pan fried turnip cake, seafood bean curd roll, sesame balls with red bean, taro puffs and chicken dumplings. Everything was on point except the sesame balls with red bean. They were small and the breading was thick. Pass on those. My two favorites were the black bean spareribs and the salted egg custard buns. I love salted duck eggs. The prices here are a bit more than the average dim sum spot. Most of the steamed baskets were $7-$8. If you use your American Savings Bank debit card you get a discount: $7 off $50, $15 off $100 or $75 off $500. Free parking in the basement of the building.
