Who would think you can buy roast duck, roast pork kind of food at Safeway? Well, it is not inside Safeway but underneath Safeway at the Beretania St. location. Asian mix located right across from T-mobile store. After COVID, they kind of block off the store entrance, you just placed your order at the door, take a number and they will call you when your food is ready. The owner used to own Panda Dim sum years ago, and he still remember me when I go there to buy my roast duck, they also server a lot of other Chinese hot dishes, I posted photo of the menu in my review and you can check it out. My favorite duck place! My to-go order, 1/2 lb roast duck (uncut leg) and 1/2 char siu is just so amazing! I've been getting flyers from Asian Mix frequently and was a bit confused of what it is if it's a restaurant or fast food or a plate lunch vibe kinda place. It's conveniently located on the ground floor of Beretania Safeway so there is ample parking available so it is a great place to swing for a quick fix pick up. With a table right at the entrance is where you place your order and given a number is as simple as can be all you have to do is decide. I wasn't sure about this review since it was for one item cold ginger chicken as Mom have been craving for it I decided to check out various place and see which one would be her favorite since she's been disappointed with some other places. I also decided on some noodles to go with that and thought of some Black Bean Chow Funn but they were out of Chow Funn...sigh. Felt rushed as she asked "is that all?" Ya...I had my mind set on that and being it was my first time I really didn't feel like experimenting and took it as a sign to find something at home to pair with it instead. Their Cold Ginger Chicken is sold in half or whole it certainly is a generous portion and enough for the two of us with two small cups of sauce is a decent amount but as saucy folks we did have to ration some pieces to make it last lol! Called in an order for a medium sized pan of beef chow fun for pick up on Christmas eve and it was ready when I got there in 15 minutes so I bypassed the order line and wait and went to the pick up line. They even put the aluminum pan in a box for easier handling. Wish finding parking were as easy but it took just a few minutes before a Safeway shopper left stall. The chow funn was tasty. This place does not disappoint. When I had first heard about them a few years ago I thought they were more like Panda so I dismissed giving them a try. In fact, I didn't really give them a try till last year when the pandemic started to take hold. Their roast meats are quite good and compare favorably with Chinatown or even Toast Duck Kitchen in Aiea. Their roast pork, Char siu, duck are great pick ups and so much easier to get to than Chinatown. Essentially they are a Chinese restaurant done drive-in style. Fits right in with the pandemic- take out is king. Our favorites include the Kung Pao chicken, pot roast chicken and salt/pepper pork chop. Their honey walnut shrimp is delicious and quite generous in their portions. They have a weekly special where $10+ dishes are sold at a weekly special price of $8.50. A nice deal. The weekly special is posted in the Sunday "Dining Out" section of the newspaper, you can call them too to find out what the special is. Because they share space with Safeway and T-mobile parking can be problematic but if you call in your order, there is a dedicated area for advance order pick up. It came out to around $50 and the portions were big. My family was able to eat it for dinner and lunch the next day. Definitely check it out if you're nearby. read more

On a rainy day the location is a perfect place to pick up lunch. First there is a lot of parking (especially on a rainy day when most people are at home instead of grocery shopping) and secondly it's all under cover so you stay dry. But all that is just a plus. The real reason you score is the food. Yesterday we got the weekly special and the meat combo with Choi sum. The special was half a chicken with broccoli, carrots and mushrooms. I prefer breast meat but it can be dry. But the chicken breast was very juicy and tender with lots of flavor. The char siu also was tender and flavorful. Because char siu is usually made with honey or molasses and even sugar, if you aren't attentive to the cooking it burns (more than char) but I've never had an over done piece here. Perfect. After trying many chinese BBQ place, Asian Mix is my favorite. Their char siu and Roast ducks are divine!!! Roast pork the meat can be a little tough, i almost choke on it one time...so chew carefully. The skin is usually crispy and crunchy. I love getting the duck or bbq meat on rice. Drool. They have other dishes like salted fish fried rice, and salt and pepper pork chop. Usually i am full from the bbq meat so never tried the other dishes, but my friend said they are good too. A quick takeout counter with awesome Chinese food outside of Chinatown. My go-to dishes here are the roast pork, roast duck, and salt n pepper prawns. I ordered a pound of roasted duck with vegetables. Without rice! I'm so upset with my bandit coz he won't let me have rice. (insert crying face) Oh well, I'll settle with a vegetables then. Waited for about 10mins. & boom! Grab the order & went straight to the car so that I can start filling my hungry stomach. But to my surprise, t'was a roasted duck in the bed of blanched leafy vegetables (looks like bok choy). I am disappointed! Thought the vegetables that the young woman who took my order is a stir-fried veggies. It's not. Went back & just add extra rice anyways. They should make is clear, & I should have known better. If goin' to a Chinese restaurant I'll make sure that I'm gonna ask the kind of veggies they put into the plate! Lesson learned! Roasted duck taste okay. But when you poured in the sauce, it will give you a lot new flavor in your mouth. The meat is juicy as well but greasy & I'm freakin' worried 'bout my stomach. Good thing it didn't trigger my acid. One great thing about Yelp is the diverse and varied reviews which gives folks different things to consider... much like the old school Siskel and Ebert at the movies with their thumbs up or thumbs down rating. For a contrarian review, see Rod U's, not disputing the points he makes, I just have a different point of view. You get great deals coming here, while the food is not truly Chinatown authentic, it's not bad. For example, their weekly $7.50 specials in the Sunday paper and pair that with their Singapore Rice Noodles for $8.50 you get an unbelievable deal that feeds 3 for $16.75 including tax. They don't skimp on their portions too. For our favorite $7.50 specials: Cold Ginger Chicken - the chicken is a bit overcooked at times and the ginger sauce slightly too salty, still hard to find a half chicken for this price. Besides the minor flaws, this is pretty good. Pot roasted chicken with vegetables - chicken is soft and tender, some may not like the starchy sauce all over the dish. Beef or curry chow fun - wished the chow fun noodles had more of a wok taste but still ok. The curry chow fun could be a bit too "spicy" for some. This special is very popular as they sell out for dinner at times. Pork Chops - this is our favorite, generous bits of garlic and chilli pepper, fried just right... wished pieces were not as thin. One of my favorite things about this place is the service is very prompt, they were never late with any of the phone in orders... that's impressive. This is a thumbs up for me and thumbs down for Rod U. One of my favorite segments in the Siskel and Ebert at the Movies was when they argued about the original The Fast and Furious. Siskel just didn't like the movie because of it's awful and unrealistic plot and bad acting... Ebert like it because it was an entertaining B-movie. Ordered the house fried rice, shrimp with vegetables, and salt and pepper spare ribs. All really good. Nothing was overly salty which was great. We came in around 30-45 min before closing. No line. Food came out relatively quickly and was hot. Staff is friendly and attentive. They do have plexi glass and sanitized pens for use. Parking onsite in the Safeway lot. Will be back soon! read more

Day 1: 2/3/21. I'm really disappointed tonight. My favorites are Singapore Noodles, Garlic Broccoli, and Honey Roasted Pork. But what made it incomplete order is that they gave roast pork. That's not what I order. It was 1/2 lb. Honey Glazed Roast Pork. They want to sneak in the last of the Mohicans of cold roast pork without lamp on to keep it temperature hot. I called and have to wait tomorrow to return. That leaves me without meat with my meal. They are so lame, poor service, and deaf. At least Panda will give you coupons for two extra entrees. That's a big mistake. I did asked Honey roast pork twice, the guy tell me...yeah, yeah! Now, I have to draw them a picture and write in bold "HONEY." Oh, my?! Day 2: 2/4/21 I'm suppose to pick up the Honey Roasted BBQ pork. After speaking to a lady last night, she told me to come today. She didn't tell me what time. That said the menu is average but it's posted quite far away I ordered what someone else had insisted I go and try for "the really large portion, great taste, flavor.. I was not impressed with any of it they didn't put any sauces in the to go when I got home there was no soy sauce or hot mustard nothing .. which is something they lost a star over. On my way from the bank I finally made a point of trying out this place before going home. It was busy, but the line was moving quickly. It was smart of them to maintain the COVID setup as there is no indoor dining - just chairs to sit on until they call your number. I decided to order two of their specials so I wouldn't have to cook for a couple of days: the Special Hong Kong WonTon Noodle Soup and the Special Singapore Rice Noodles with Curry. The soup stock was nice and hot by the time I got home (and I took the bus) so I added the dumplings, gai lan, onion & char siu pork to it and enjoyed the flavors all mixed together. It was plentiful and hit the spot. Before I put the Singapore noodles in the fridge I took a taste, and almost couldn't stop! I'm not super into Chinese food but if you want a lot of food for your money, come here. I enjoy their Singaporean curry noodles and their pork eggplant. It's only a little more than Panda Express so if you want to eat there but want something different, come here. I have also got the ginger chicken (it was meh) and orange chicken (my son wanted it and instantly regretted it). We usually always get the same things. The service is non existent. The people aren't friendly. They charge you for everything. But hey, the food is cheap and if you don't ask for extras, then you'd probably be okay. It does get busy so sometimes it does take awhile. Parking is shared with Safeway but you can usually easily find a spot. This place is good for potlucks because the food is pretty reasonable and tasty. (9/25) Christmas 2022 continuing.... Yes to Asian Mix! I've been going to Asian Mix off and on since they opened up at Safeway. When I was younger, I'd come for the boba/ milk tea drinks but that's been long gone.... no idea when it'll return. But for the longest time, when my family didn't want to deal with the fuss of Chinese take out from Chinatown, we'd swing by Asian mix for some good dinner take out. Some tips though, they are frequently out of any duck and other roasted meats by dinner time. So obviously if you want the goodies, you gotta go for lunch. Bring your own tote bags and boxes if possible to carry out food. The plastic bag ban made it difficult to carry several boxes in that haphazard "non handled" plastic bag which shifts around so much and their juice tray boxes really don't cut it as those cardboards are getting more thin. Be prepared for the prices to compare to in-dining restaurants now. The prices of Asian Mix used to be SO AFFORDABLE, but they've raised their prices to keep up with the ever growing inflation. The days of $12.95 plates of food are gone. The food is still delicious, but it's more costly now. I wish they'd stay open longer, like until 9:00 PM, but hey, it's their business and they'll run it how they want. read more

FOOD There are drinks - an assortment of teas with and without boba that are perhaps the cheapest in town. They may not have cheese toppings, but they may make your list of top BBT places in town based on taste and value. NOTE: drink service has been suspended until after the COVID-19 pandemic. There is food - BBQ meats and Chinese dishes. The usual suspects for meat can be found here, but the key seems to be in calling by noon or 2:00 pm to ensure you get the meats you would like since they are tasty, relatively authentic, and sell out quickly! We found the BBQ pork to have pretty taste and texture (especially when ordering 50% fat, 50% lean), and the roast pork skin is crispy without being too hard and the meat flavorful without being too salty. We have tried nearly everything on the menu with it comes the Chinese dishes and have not been disappointed. The meats are tender, the rice and noodles not too oily, the vegetables still have some crunch to them (i.e. not overcooked) and the prices are reasonable. The only downsides perhaps are you won't find cake noodle, or e-fu noodle (e-mein) here, and depending on your tastes, you may need to ask them to hold back the amount of minced garlic they place in dishes with vegetables. Other than that the food is a delight! === 3. SERVICE & ENVIRONMENT Outside of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are typically a number of 2- and 4-person tables outside that you can dine at. However, they really are oriented towards takeout and so is their service - efficient and reasonably good in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. I recommend calling ahead for faster service, as they can get quite busy around lunch and dinner times. Wheelchairs and baby strollers have no trouble getting in and out of the place and parking is readily available in the shopping complex parking lot. read more

Located just below safeway across T mobile - Asian Mix has been serving chinese cuisines, and one of the bests in hawaii. I wish they also served milk tea drinks like they use too!! *Fair Warning* As of the today the prices you may see may not be what it is. It seems as tho they have increased their prices. So all the 12.50 or 13.50 is probably a dollar more now .. (This should been addressed or at least changed, but this is your warning) My usuals and their most popular are the beef chow fun (would advise to order ahead via phone just before 4), their crispy gougee noodles, and pork chops. They also sell out their roasted duck and pork really fast. Their wonton soups are equally amazing and flavorful too! The portions are also good for 2 people! Some of the cons about this place is that the gougee sometimes will be burnt or brown. The brown coloring indicates that they use old oil.. Other than that I would come back and order again, BUT phone order ahead, however they often don't pick up during busy hours which is 5-6 ish. read more
