I hadn't been here in several years and I have to say, my last visit was off the hook FABULOUS. It is one of my all time favorite Indian restaurants. I couldn't be happier they survived the pandemic. Loud shout out to our server, Sonia who could not have been sweeter. I felt right at home under her care. She was attentive and answered all our questions and truly knew the menu and it's contents. I also felt the prices were in line with the quality and quantity as well as presentation. Their menu is quite extensive, best to go with a friend or friends so you can try all the amazing items. We started with the Garlic and Basil Naan and Samosa. Both piping hot and delicious. Side sauces for the Samosa and Naan did not disappoint. Entrees were Chicken Korma and Tandoori Chicken and a side of rice, all so delicious, the meals left us speechless. I thought I might end up with some leftovers, but no way could I not finish, they were both so good. Aslam's is my absolute favorite Indian/Pakistani food in the Bay Area! Huge fan of their chicken madras and saag paneer. The naan is always perfectly toasty and I'd recommend a mango lassi to accompany it all. The quantities are satisfying and we often end up taking a whole extra meal's worth home in a to go box. On top of the excellent food, the service is phenomenal. It's the type of warm, friendly, family-owned business that makes SF feel like home. They've been a low-key institution on Valencia st. for at least as long as I've ben here, and quickly became a go-to. We ordered the bone-in tandoori chicken, matar paneer (green pees, homemade cheese cubes with spices in tomato cream sauce), and the kachumber (cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes). The food was pretty good. The goat cheese Naan was delicious and unique. I haven't try that Naan before. The lamb Biryani was tasty and the meat was tender. I've been to several highly regarded Indian/Pakistani restaurants around town over the years, and hands-down, Aslam's is the very best in every way. A dear friend turned me on to Aslam's, for which I am most grateful! The tandoori chicken is a-mazing! Love love their saag paneer too. Sonia is the kindest, and most attentive server, and will ask if we want half and half saag paneer and saag aloo. Try it--So good! The garlic naan is a perfectly seasoned chewy delight alongside our paneer. Last visit I ordered the chutney and raita for the first time and will repeat -- harmonious complement to the chicken. I am so in love with Aslam's tandoori that it's hard not to order that every time, but gotta branch out one of these days! These days, Friday night after 8pm is slim pickens if you're trying to find something healthy. In fact, we drove up and down Valencia trying to find anything other than pizza or tacos. I must have pulled up to Aslam's Rasoi just before 9pm, because the kitchen was no longer serving appetizers, but they still had a lot of amazing options to go. *Both garlic and regular nan were amazing. *Channa Masala is a little spicy, but fantastic! *Saag Paneer is good, but not the best I've ever had. I thought it coulda had more cheese, but it's all good. *Props for throwing in extra Daal! I'd order that again :) *Mango Lhassi had to come in a to-go container, so I was a little thrown off with the size, but it was too delicious to pass up. Also ordered chicken kabobs (4 small pieces) which were a pleasant surprise with onions, etc. meat & food quality is fresh...kabobs were bit bland. Lamb curry was average but garlic naan was the best. Service was exceptional...team was doing the best even though they were short staffed on Saturday evening. There are quite a few sure-fire Indian restaurants in the Mission from the no-frills tandoori delights of Alhamra to the tasty small plates at DOSA to the veggie nirvana of Udupi Palace to the addictive goat korma at Deccan Spice. In other words, there's a lot of selection if you're in a South Asian culinary mood. Perhaps the plethora of choices is the reason Jamie W. and I have bypassed this somewhat more higher-end spot on Valencia, even though we heard it was among the best of the bunch. We've also been scrupulously watching our intake of food for the past several months and benefiting from our healthy outlook in many ways including our evolving taste in Indian food. That meant we bypassed the naans, the samosas, and even the papadum in favor of the $5 Kachumber, a delightfully light, sharable salad of fresh cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes with fresh herbs and lime juice (photo: http://bit.ly/2upWc24). It managed to lend fresh crunch and cleanse our palates for the treats to come. The centerpiece of our order was the $22 Full Tandoori Chicken, which we hadn't had for many a month. Perhaps because we hadn't had it in a while, the poultry tasted particularly satisfying that night, comparable to our gold standard at Alhamra.
