We met here for a small group dinner. Even though we arrived about an hour before they closed (nearing the end of their day), we were greeted and seated with kindness and hospitality. The food was superb, absolutely delicious. We ordered Samosas, as an appetizer (crisp, fresh, and delicious). For entrees we had Began Barta (smoky and excellent!), chicken tikka masala (full of flavor and texture), saag aloo (perfect!), and other items. The naan bread (garlic and basil!) tasted freshly made, even though it was the end of the day. Every single thing was delicious and tasty. This was a great dining experience. I have been coming to this restaurant for many years now. I have to say it just gets better and better. There is no other in the bay area that can compete with the flavors that come out of the kitchen. Last night we ordered lamb biryani, and it was completely full of flavor. It was made perfectly, the proteins were cooked to perfection the rice was nice and fluffy, and I must say very generous portions of meat. However, I could not stop eating the chicken tikka marsala because the sauce was so incredibly good. All I needed was the naan to dip into the sauce. This was a highly recommended place by one of the friends and he was on diet this month. He decided to cheat if we go to this place. Reservation wasn't essential when wee arrived around 7:30 pm on Saturday. There is a parking garage at 5 mins walking distance. We ordered Paneer tikka which comes on a sizzling platter and was indeed very fresh, juicy and well grilled. The chutney on the side could have been more taste worthy. Per the host's suggestion we ordered saag Paneer and baingan Bharta with assorted bread basket. Saag paneer was good, but it had typical americanized taste of saag. It didn't taste as authentic as what it would taste at home or in India. I was very disappointed by the baingan bharta. It didn't even taste like eggplant it rather tasted like a thick daal. The breads on the otter hand were fit for perfection: soft fresh and aromatic. We realized it was small portion so we asked the host to suggest us one more entree, and off the menu he suggested that he can ask the chef to make Paneer Karahi. Now it did taste well, but from the picture as well you can guess it didn't look like Karahi. It rather tasted like Achari Paneer. Though it tasted well but my other friends preferred saag over it. Finally the mango lassi which might be a 5/5 because it literally feels like Aamras and not lassi. For tikka, Naan, and lassi I could have given 5/5. The food is outstanding. With all the Indian restaurants in the mission this one is by far and large our favorite. (I should mention I'm not a big potato fan so dosas and Udupi palace aren't my favorite) Asan and Sonia provide excellent service and with Asan's gather cooking in the kitchen the food is always flavorful and as spicy as you'd like it! They are very accommodating for vegans and gluten free diets. Also great for large groups and parties! AND they also have a virtual waitlist wh/ is always useful. If you are wondering which Indian place is the best on Valencia Street, look no further than here. Take it from someone who has lived in the neighborhood for over three decades - the other restaurants do not compare. Aslam's Rasoi is my go-to for consistent, delicious, wonderfully-prepared Indian food. You will receive generous portions at a reasonable price too. I highly recommend the chicken salad as a starter - the produce is always fresh and crisp and the dressing is delicious. They have better sauces for their papadum and naan than any other restaurant I've been to. Last night I had the prawn masala and it was seasoned to perfection (I got 'medium' and it was neither too hot nor too mild - just right!). But the best thing about Aslam's is the family who owns it....they all work together and have been just so sweet to me over the years with their warm smiles and all their care and kindness. Atmosphere: Semi-casual, clean and welcoming streetside restaurant on Valencia Street. If you are driving, the Valenica-Bartlett garage is convenieniently located around the corner on 21st Street (garage open to midnight most days). Food: The menu consists of standard Indian and Pakistani choices with a few house specialties. We ordered a pretty traditional mix including mixed dal (spiced lentils) saag aloo (spinach with potatoes), chicken vindaloo (with potatoes in a spicy sauce), rice and onion kulcha (naan with onions and cilantro). The food was above average with distinctive but not overpowering spices, and the portions left us full. For dessert we had their walnut-flavored cream which is made in-house and it was fantastic. Service: Ok, it was pretty empty when we arrived near opening, but the service was friendly, helpful and fast. More people arrived as we ate and it appeared as if everyone was served quickly. Delicious Indian food in a cozy, intimate setting! My cousin was visiting with friends and had me recommend a place- I hadn't been to Aslam Rasoi but upon reading Yelp reviews and seeing ratings, we decided to reserve and give it a try. They have a good selection of appetizers to choose from, as well as meat, seafood, and veggie dishes, breads and biryanis, and sauces (which you would have to get on the side). Memorable were: -calamari pakora- I would come back for this. I'd never seen it at another Indian/Pakistani establishment and loved the twist on fried calamari -chicken biryani- delicious biryani rice with chicken, we ordered one the first round and had to order another one soon after! -chicken tikka masala- creamy, smooth tikka sauce with chunks of chicken -variety naan/kulcha basket- great way to try different flatbreads with a group It's definitely SF prices (think $10-20) a dish, and entrees come alone and can serve 2-3 people, but everything was so good! read more

Pakwan is better. Why? Quality AND quantity. Overall the food tasted pretty good but for the price I expected more quantity. If you are to come I would recommend the chicken biryani. The mango lassi was good but $6! The aloo gobi was also good but ridiculously expensive for a tiny dish of curried cauliflower. The lamb vindaloo was very very dry. The naan was small (plain is always better in my opinion). If you're craving Indian don't be lazy like I was, head to Pakwan or Shalimar and do it right. read more

Saag paneer was so good. The other dishes were good too, but the saag paneer in particular was amazing! The portion sizes are really small and the prices are pretty high :( I'd recommend ordering one entree per person, at least one order of naan or ricer per person, and an appetizer to share. Came in here for a date night on Friday - night started off right as we found parking right outside the restaurant on Valencia (applause) , the place wasn't crowded as this time and we were promptly seated . We started off with the special beer on draft (chimay) , gobi pakoda and chicken tikka. I usually hesitate to order pakoda's as they are oily and leave you full before the meal arrives but my husband is a bug sucker for gobi and the pakoda's didn't disappoint- they were light and fluffy and perfectly seasoned. The chicken tikka was the best I have ever had in SF, perfectly moist and marinated - I did find that the pieces sitting on the hot serving plate became a little hard by the time we got to it, so we should have pulled them all into our plates as soon as they arrived. We got the kulcha and paneer makhani for entrees - we asked for spicy and it was spicy :D they had used black pepper to make it spicier rather than the traditional red chilli so it did become a little too much for us. We got 2 kulcha's but 1 would have been just fine. For dessert, they only had kulfi with pistachio - it was pretty good :) There was some error in our bill so we got some complementary mango lassi which was yummy and shall be ordered next time. My husband was so excited to come back to this spot after not having been here in years. When we passed up Dosa (a block down) to come here, I assumed it was a more affordable option, and it was not. The server was very nice and helpful. When we were unsure about which type of samosa to order in our appetizer sampler, she suggested the jalapeño/cheese samosa. The pakoras in the sampler were amazing! The chutneys were very unique - the green chutney was creamy, the red chutney had a plum sauce consistency. We went with a rice, baingan bhartha, butter chicken (our indicator of how "good" the Indian restaurant is) and garlic naan. We like Little Delhi's less creamy, spicy butter chicken, but this was the best garlic naan we've had... maybe ever! I'd definitely go here again! read more

Indian and Pakistani food are one of my few favorite ethnic cuisines. I ordered chicken tikka masala and the waiter asked me how spicy would it be. I said "very spicy please". He asked me again if I'm sure of my decision. I said yes. My food came and devoured my entire plate without any difficulty. It wasn't really spicy but it was incredibly delicious. Aslam's food is exceptional. I come here often and the most challenging thing is deciding what to order. The bone-in tandoori chicken, biryani (chicken or vegetable) and the seafood curry are my favorites. That said, everything I've ordered has been delicious. The naan is perfect. The staff are kind and willingly accommodate special requests, e.g., sometimes I want a bit of chicken in my vegetable biryani. And since I am something of a woos when it comes to spicy dishes, I am grateful that when I request mild, I get mild. The restaurant is spacious and the acoustics are comfortable for the hearing challenged. If you can't find street parking, there is a city parking garage nearby. read more
