Great spot. They had a super cool bar area as well. We were seated really fast, customer service was very attentive of us and checked in every few minutes. They had a smooth playlist of music to boost up the vibe. Food came out steaming nice hot and fresh!! Sauce had amazing flavor I love it. Couldn't stop dropping my crab and fries in it. The Cajun fries were delicious as well. Seasoned perfect nice and crispy. The spot was very clean no complaints about that. During meatless Friday's/Lent, we have come here twice this year (2021). And with Dine-In as an option, this place hasn't disappointed. I deducted 1-Star because on our last visit, they wanted to charge for the gloves (typically comes with the Dine-in experience), not even the bib.. This place was THE WORST togo experience I have ever had. I was there for the dinner rush and I noticed some employee's were walking around with NO MASKS ON! What happened to being "covid friendly"? Even the Owner of this place walks around with no mask on, while he's talking to everyone. Wow I'm so impressed with Backyard Bayou! WAITLIST - love how they have yelp waitlist - easy! SERVICE - our server was great and on top of refills too! They also give you legit nitrile gloves not the cheap clear plastic ones. FOOD - the lobster roll was surprisingly really good. I've had plenty of lobster roll where it was drenched in mayo or butter. This one was very settle in mayo and butter. Wasn't overly salty either. the Cajun fries that came with the lobster roll were overly seasoned hence very salty. But still decent and a very generous portion. Lobster + fries = very worth $21.95 the backyard style sauce was comparable to boiling crab the whole the shebang sauce. It wasn't watered down like other Cajun joints though ! the shrimp wasn't over cooked. Medium spice level was perfect. $14 per pound or $16 headless. My boyfriend and I each got a pound of shrimp with all the sauces mixed together to go. I got mild and he got spicy. The shrimp was just okay to be honest. The sauce was good, but extremely salty. I couldn't even eat half of my bag before I had to stop. It's probably meant to be eaten over rice, which we did not get. My boyfriend loved the food though. Family Combo is definitely worth it. $88 for lobster or crab, sausages, corn and 4 pounds of shrimp, clams, crawfish or mussels, it's awesome. If you're comparing it to Boiling Crab in South Bay, Boiling Crab definitely has more flavor. If you're comparing it to Kickin' Crab though, then Kickin' Crab, of the three, is the best. But, this will hit the spot if you don't feel like driving another 30 minutes down to San Jose. I ended up ordering garlic butter on the side and making my own lemon pepper sauce to have the best of all worlds. Style: This place definitely has more of a Louisiana influence, like fried gator, fried okra and other delicious fixins'. The Fried Okra was nothing special, it was crispy on the outside, but very mushy on the inside. The Garlic Noodles were also very unsatisfying. It was more like Garlic Spaghetti with a little bit of Parmesan. I was hoping for something more flavorful and chewier in texture. The place gets really busy, service is friendly and attentive despite how busy it was. Came with some compatriots after a day of drinking so I kept to the side dishes on this one. They had remarked the shrimp and crawfish was pretty good so I'll take their word for it. I had the cornbread, mac n cheese, cajun edamame, and garlic noodles. The garlic noodles had too much garlic with little fresh garlic in it, just lots of powder. I adore garlic too and this was even too much for me. The cornbread was yummy but I didn't get anything to dress it with, had to wave someone down to get that. Was better after the fact, though they were a bit dry and definitely needed the help. The mac n cheese is plain, couldn't really taste the cheese and definitely needed spices of some sort. Also, there's no salt n pepper on the table so again you gotta wave someone down to get that kind of stuff unfortunately. The cajun edamame was nifty, wanted more spice though again. Needed flavor. Could be better, but idk. As much as I like these kind of places the seafood is usually always decent. The best cajun/seafood restaurant in the Bay Area, hands down. Been to both locations. The food is always excellent and the service is on point. You could literally close your eyes & point to anything on the menu and not be disappointed. The crawfish are super fresh, and their sauces take them up a notch! The poboys are hella good, and I suggest getting a small side of "backyard sauce" to put on any one you order. You'll be glad you did. I could go here and just order a bunch of side dishes as a meal because they're that good. Don't be afraid to try some of the more adventurous selections, like the grilled frogs legs, or the gator. They are really good! Even if you have to drive a bit to either location, it's well worth the trip. I regularly drive over an hour to get here. read more

We were in Union Landing for a movie and saw this big crab symbol outside of this building from the parking lot across from Starbucks. Guess that facilitated our dinner planning! The restaurant is a lively, sports bar like place to order seafood boil. No need for plates or utensils - they provide gloves, bibs, and large paper tablecloths for easy cleanup. Market prices for seafood are marked on the chalkboard near the entrance. We started with a lychee and mango soju cooler. Excellent drinks with good amount of soju and fruity flavors mixed with some crushed ice. Great neutralizer for the spiciness to come from the food! Appetizers include gumbo - good smoky soup with small bits of okra and small shrimp pieces. Excellent quality - only missing thing I think is to add a bit of rice like they do in NOLA. We also got a cup of collard greens cooked with some ham which was also good. The cajun garlic fries were long and crispy and fried perfectly with lots of minced garlic! For seafood, we got the Bayou Combo with lobster and crawfish. Lobster was cooked well here and was a highlight of the meal. It was good sized too - maybe two pounder. Crawfish was well flavored but were really small compared to other places. The sausage slices and corn cobs that came with the meal were quite good. We asked that they make the Bayou Seasoning on the mild side. We also ordered 1-lb shrimp and 1-lb mussels. Shrimp was the better option - not overcooked at all! Mussels were good but I have to ding them a bit since about a fourth of them didn't open :( Service was wonderful throughout. Our main server Carlene was great. Overall we liked this place more than 938 Crawfish on Solano Ave since flavors are milder and seafood overall cooked better. read more

During my observation of Lent, tuna sandwiches weren't cutting it for me anymore. I needed to get away from the mundane routine of tuna sandwiches. I had a strong craving for some good crispy calamari, but wanted to try some calamari from a place I've never ordered from before. I did a quick search on my Yelp app for calamari, then Backyard Bayou popped up! Due the Lenten season, I knew this place was going to be packed! So, I decided to order in for the evening. After browsing their online menu, I did also order some garlic noodles to go with my calamari. I did all my order online and the turn around time was around twenty minutes.Twenty minutes had passed, and my assumption was right for the availability of seats. They were non-existent, well except for the bar. I walked up to the designated area where I needed to pick up my order. Everything was ready on time when I came to pick up. A transaction gone easy! Once I got home, I unpacked my order and a took in the aromas of the dishes! Everything was hot from being freshly cooked and neatly packaged. I squeezed some lemon wedges, which were included with the calamari, to give that tangy flavor. The calamari was crispy and crunchy, just how I imagined it would taste like. The garlic noodles were full of flavor. The noodles were lightly stiff, but soft to chew. Every forkful of noodles I took in had the constant garlic flavor. Overall, the meal was very impressive! I took my partner for her birthday dinner here and was very disappointed. We were seated at the bar and even when telling the servers that it was her birthday, they didn't seem to care all that much. I was expecting that they would have brought her cheesecake and sang happy birthday after the meal but they didn't. Tried out Backyard Bayou for take-out the other day. it's next to Lucky's in the Union Landing shopping center. Called it in & guy said it'll be ready in 15 min. When I got there it was ready, & I added lobster mac & cheese to my order. Lobster roll $18.99 - it's small, bun was buttery & sweet, with chunks of lobster. Suppose to come with fries, but I got it instead with one boiled corn. Corn was just a section, not full size corn. 1 lb of shrimp Hot - I asked for the hot sauce which was pretty spicy in red sauce, lots of garlic. nice kick. Shrimp wasn't that fresh & still had shrimp crap on it so that was gross still ate it. One corn in it, good with the sauce. A joke. HAN, the kids you got running the place disappointed the hell out of me. For starters. I get off work. Get home and am craving your spot ,(BEEN COMING HERE FOR YEARS). I first tried a place like this in Hawaii and I fell in love with the idea of 1lb of shrimp in a bag and you get a bib to eat and gloves. Service was quick the food as hot and fresh.
