We had a great time at Baxter's. We went later in the night on a Sunday and were seated right away on the water. The view was beautiful with the water lit up from the lights from the homes. We ordered a stuffed Quahog which was exceptional and seems like a staple in this town. We tried the fried shrimp which was exactly as you would expect. We also had the fish and chips which was cooked to perfection, light and buttery. If you're looking for an experience on the water I would recommend it. read more

The Lazy Man Lobster was the best! So good! But other food ordered in the family was just so so, husband got haddock, shrimp, and fries. The kids menu was pricey. Nice atmosphere since you can sit on the dock and service was fast! You order at the counter and sit down with a pager. I'm struggling between 3 and 4 stars but went with 4 since I really liked my food. The cashier was also friendly and let us know the kids meals come with ice cream. Went to Baxter' boathouse where the lobster roll my wife and I had were $25 a piece. Its resident weekend on cape and they had menu at full price with stale rolls shells in the lobster (which i would understand if cheaper price) and a manager that basically told me "well why didnt you just bring it back" I said thats not the point. Local wanting to promote a local and brought my family, which spent $72 per family for sub par food (which was served as fast food) had a seperation of familu and bar and on the family side had a party of horse races which was not at all a family atmosphere and it was crap food. End result, I would never recommend this place to any tourist due to bad food at a over priced rate and a non family friendly atmosphere. read more

I have been here many times simply because we like to sit on the deck and watch the boats and their fish is very fresh, but that is all it has and good fresh fish can be gotten all over the cape. The food has no defining taste boring. The price of cocktails is absurd to the point of insulting. We had one app, two sandwiches, two bloody Mary's and two don Julio. I'm amazed how good this place was. I wasn't expecting much and just wanted a quick place to eat while waiting for my Steamship Authority ferry. Service was beyond friendly, the place was large and clean with beautiful Views of the harbor everywhere. My fish and chips were delicious -- lightly battered and flaky. I will definitely go back. Also the kid at the register had manners and people skills that were impressive for someone his age. It is refreshing to see that in young people! We wanted to try something different and stay on the waterfront for my wife's birthday. The staff was really friendly. But the food and beverages were lacking. We were really disappointed as we had heard good things. Maybe just an off night, but her frozen margarita came over ice, the chowder was watery and bland, the seafood was way over cooked and dry and I'm really not a fan of going to dinner for a "nice" meal and eating on paper plates and drinking a martini or wine out of a clear plastic solo cup. We never had any issues with Baxters until the other night. I ordered the fried calamari and it was tasteless. You could tell they were frozen . The fried clams were $35.00 which is fine , but they were soaked in grease. You could tell by the color and texture of the batter , they were fried in old oil. It was very disappointing. Well, came here because of the view... and that's all you should look forward to- the view. Figured we'd get a "house special" Bloody Mary and that was a bust- does not come as pictured, must pay $4 for added shrimp (no thanks)- and after we ordered one it was SO bland we realized we were supposed to ask for the spicy version- our waitress was so sweet and said she'd get us a spicy one since we didn't like the original- and while it was better we soon realized it was probably just added to the one we had in the glass already- my half eaten celery was still there and my already previously squeezed lemon and lime pieces were at the bottom of the "new one"- really?! thanks for nothing. The view was so great we said we'd tried one more thing- the calamari. Nothing special at all. No tentacles, no peppers. Borrinngg and so OVERPRICED!! Came here a few years ago and all I could remember was I asked for blackened swordfish and when it came out just grilled- I told that waiter and he came back with a dash of old Bay seasoning on top. Yeah, that does not make it magically blackened. I should have learned from my experience a couple years ago- it is overpriced, bland food, not worth it all all- especially with Black Cat and Spankys across the bay. Pleasant little lunch after we came back from Nantucket. Great to be right on the harbor and watch the boats and ferries come in and out. I don't think you'll go home and tell all your friends about the meal you had but with a beautiful day and a solid meal you will be happy. The food is fresh and the relaxing atmosphere makes it feel like heaven by the sea. I have been to Baxter's a few times before and enjoyed the food, BUT was disappointed with the seafood platter last night. Usually split a platter, glad we didn't last night, price was high portions low. Loads of fries and a good size portion of fish but I didn't order fish and chips. Barely any clams, shrimp and scallops. We took it to go or I seriously would have just bought it back and asked for my money back. This is a classic experience that is really not to be missed. They have fried EVERYTHING, so bring your appetite & perhaps your cardiologist while you're at it. The food is great for sharable, or solo dishes. I split the fried clams & oysters which hit the spot. I also had a Pain Killer cocktail because "when in Rome"...it's got a local feel that's relaxing & makes you want to pull up a chair & hang out all night, I'm sure MANY do just that. They have some great outdoor space, but also really accommodating indoor space too with great views no matter which way you face. The staff is excellent & quick on their feet with orders & accommodations. These days, we know it's hard to just walk up & see if there's a table available, but their team made it work with ZERO wait time & we were grateful for it. During the virus shutdown I had my wife's birthday celebration with all the mandated regulations observed. I searched for a lobster roll restaurant and Baxters Boathouse was open for pickup. A handful of times I spoke to Samantha to ensure everything would be seamless and ready when the day came. She was cheerful, reassuring, helpful and a pleasure to work with every time. The lobster roll dinners were excellent, well labeled and packaged in an organized fashion. The day came and all went perfectly, right on time. The young "masked" men that delivered the lobster dinners to the car were polite and prompt. I highly recommend Baxters Boathouse and Samantha should get a raise. I look forward to getting some more lobster roll dinners this weekend! read more

This is all about location, directly on the dock in Hyannis. A classic seaport restaurant/bar with a yachty crowd of summer people and touri. The food is ok, but you will pay a location surcharge of about 30% over anywhere else on the Cape. I mean $14.99 for a fish sandwich? Service is efficient and polite but not friendly or really welcoming. They'll take your order and bring you your drink/food and that's that. A great place for a waterside drink but eat elsewhere. One bonus is that cranky, spolied kids are not allowed in the bar/lounge area, only at the cheezy fried seafood restaurant side, so that is one reason to go by itself. read more

Although their menu lists "gluten free fried dishes" with "gluten free bread/rolls" (called to confirm before going that this was indeed true, which their head chef told me it was), there are NO GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS. I got to the restaurant with my large party and upon reiterating that I have a severe gluten allergy, the chef informed me that they had no gluten free options. Although "gluten free bread" is on the menu, their head chef told me they have never actually bought this and that their batter has never been gluten free. They made no effort to resolve this issue, and acted offended that I had the gall to have an allergy. I was appalled that Baxter's is clearly using a ploy to get those with a food allergy to their establishment (as GF fish frys are few and far between down the Cape). I am a case where I could end up in an emergency room and it should be unlawful to lie about such food allergies on printed menus, over the phone, and online. All in all, I had coffee. read more

Some locals told us this was "The Place" for amazing fish and chips. The place is set in a marina and its pretty. Me, I am not too big on where a place is as much as "does this food rock?" and "Is this place worth the money?" Both answers, for Baxter's, is no. The food is average. It's basically a whole bunch of fresh, well-fried seafood. Cool. The batter or breading they use is basic and flavorless. We had to ask for lemon (maybe it's just us), the Captain's Platter for $26 (!!!) had a very small portion of everything but french fries. Not cool. Coleslaw is interesting, but I like it a little more flavorful, still.... most interesting thing I ate. Fish and chips was expensive for the portions. Lots of fries and basically 1 large piece of fish. Lobster roll was your basic lobster roll. Not much in the way of flavor. Actually, those ones at MacDonald's here in New England might be slightly better. So, 2 adults and 2 teens, 1 lobster roll, 2 fish and chips, and 1 Captains Platter.... 4 sodas. $96. Yes, $96. No, it's definitely not worth $96. If we all got fish and chips, it would have been about $68. Still not worth it. The location is great, the staff is pretty friendly, the food does not suck. It's just expensive and not special at all. I could get the same thing at a little clam shack in the area for a LOT less.... read more

THE POSITIVE: Had lunch at Baxter's Boathouse 3 times this summer. Had different servers each visit... Samantha, Katie, and Kayla. All were EXCELLENT!!! The food was always TOP-NOTCH!!! Served quickly but not rushed, always hot and fresh fresh fresh. The broiled scrod is by far the best I've ever tasted, and I've tasted many!! Fried entrees are not over-battered, always crispy and flavorful. Can't wait to go back next summer!!!! (PS - "Dan At The Door" greets with a nice smile, is engaging, and starts the dining experience on a happy note!) THE NEGATIVE: Stopped by for drinks after work on 2 afternoon occasions. Had the same bartender ("B") both times. He was choosey as to who he lathered attention upon (not us nor those on either side of us), flung menus on the bar when customers requested them, bragged that he presses drinkers to buy merchandise so he can make commission money, and let everyone know that he rings the bell above the bar only when he gets good tips. The owner seems more obsessed with letting younger women in than the paying customer. We came here 2 nights in a row with 4 people, but were not let in after waiting for 45 minutes. We sat and waited, while watching the owner, who seemed inebriated, let in groups of girls in without waiting. Over all food wasn't bad, ambience was actually nice, but service was at both entry and at tables needed to be better. We, begrudgingly, spent a lot of money here the night we actually got in, but would not recommend to friends due to service. This is first time at The Cape and we went to my cousins highly rated choice, Baxter's. It is your typical quick seafood/bar joint. A small place but lively on the dock! They allow you to seat yourself- we sat on the deck because although it was a lil humid inside eas much warmer. The place was packed with people and the food was good. We tried calamari appetizer, fish & chips (haddock) was well seasoned and To my surprise I tried a bacon wrapped scallop (which I was reluctant to do bc the texture of scallops make my face scrunch up), I really liked it! The scallop was not rubbery - the texture was great to me. Service: our waitress was really nice but unfortunately she appeared to be running around every second bc she had so many tables!! Seafood Bisque was gluey, the fish in the Fish & Chips was more batter than fish and the chips were soggy. The chowder was ok - a bit salty, but ok. And everything was way too expensive for an extremely informal place on a wharf. Definitely a "fleece the idiot tourist" joint. read more
