    Popcorn chicken rice combo
    Amy W.

I highly recommend this authentic Taiwanese restaurant. This is my second visit, and the consistency in food quality is impressive. I especially love the popcorn chicken--it's perfectly textured and tender. The stinky tofu is also incredibly delicious.

It is a neighborhood spot with good comfort food. The restuarnat is clean and very welcoming vibe, they offered free peanuts next to the water pitcher; how cute is that! For lunch, we got the popular beef noodle, and BBQ pork bento. I like the bento presentation and the portion of each items. The BBQ pork was very flavorful, the meat was still tender, the garlic sauce added a little kick to it. The stir-fried veggie, tomato-fried eggs, and stewed tofu made it a balanced meal. I especially like the seasoned pickles.

I came back to try the spicy beef noodle soup and it did not disappoint. Interestingly at BD Cafe, you get your choice of thick, thin, or vermicelli noodles. I like having the flexibility to customize my noodles. I went with thick noodles because that's what my waitress recommended and chose medium spicy. This was a very good spicy beef noodle soup. It comes with a generous amount of tender beef and baby bok choy. The broth tasted clean and had just the right amount of spice. But the star were the thick cut noodles which were al dente and chewy. Every component of the soup was excellent. A bowl will run you about $15 bucks, but I feel like that's the going rate these dates. We also tried the spicy wontons (good as always) and an order of Taiwanese sausage. The raw garlic with the sausage was an unexpectedly good combo. I can't recommend BD Cafe enough.

Good taste!! The food is delicious and in line with Taiwanese taste. The price is reasonable and it is worth trying.

The spicy beef noodle was absolutely delicious. The noodle was fresh with a chewy texture. The beef was fork tender and very flavorful. The broth packed with five spice and beefy flavor. It looks super spicy but it's not. Washed it all down with a cold tea drink infused with fruit grapefruit. It was so refreshing and they did not skimp on the fresh fruit! We ordered the pork belly rice bowl to go. It was good with lots of rice. The meat is tender and the fat felts in your mouth. The pickled vegetables balanced out the flavors perfectly. Service was friendly and fast. We asked for chili and more picketed veggies and got them right away.

I've had a great experience at BD cafe! Servers are friendly, prices were reasonable, and interior was clean. I got takeout, and the service was fast. I enjoyed their milk tea, it was classic like the back in Taiwan. The pork belly was tender, eggs flavorful, and fermented veggies were perfectly sweet. Defenitly recommend!

I have been to BD Cafe a few times over the years! I really enjoy their Taiwanese Minced Pork Belly. They have a version in the bowl for around $10 that comes with rice and a bento box version that comes with rice and 3 veggies (cabbage, seaweed, and cucumber the last time I went) for around $13. It is always delicious! The sauce that comes with the pork belly goes great on rice. Service wise, you can order at the counter or they may take your order for dine in. However, you usually have to go up to the cashier to pay when you're done. Not like a regular dine in where the wait staff brings a check to you. So be prepared to go up if you are trying to leave. Also, there were a few times where the restaurant closed at 3pm and they don't seat you for dine in if you come in around 2:40pm. I think they have more staff now and are open until 7pm but check the door to be sure. It is usually pretty clean in the restaurant. They have a self service water station and peanuts available for people to snack on (beware peanut allergy customers). Overall, good experience!

    Simple inside restaurant.

Home cooking Taiwanese style. The rice vermicelli was moist and comforting. Popcorn chicken was also addictive. The tofu and shrimp was a little plain, but also comfort food. My least favorite was the dry noodle. Lots of young families inside.

milk fish porridge. It's a huge portion with lots of tender de-boned milk fish.

Very nice taiwanese restaurant.. authentic flavors, fair pricing, big portions. My favorite is the milk fish porridge. It's a huge portion with lots of tender de-boned milk fish. It's very taiwanese traditional so the flavor is going to be light, not salty. I just love the gentle unique flavor of milk fish.

Much of the menu my mom used to make so there was the high nostalgia factor. Their prices are really good and food was decent. There's a take out area on one side of the restaurant complete with a large fridge with a huge variety of frozen items you can take home and heat up or cook - this includes soups , stews , dumplings etc. They also have some Taiwanese desserts - their shaved ice was massive though they kinda skimp on the amount of toppings you get. We ordered a variety of dishes - their star does seem to be their combo plates which came with hearty portion of your chosen item, homemade sides and a drink choice (includes milk tea, cold teas, sodas) . My only gripe was the older lady who works there (maybe she's the owner?) - she was a bit rude. We had a little bit of a wait so we were in the take out area and perusing the frozen items and she told us we had to wait outside. Bruh? There's no one in this area. We thought we were the only ones being shoo'd out but later saw her trying to shoo out a bunch of people waiting for their online orders, saying in mandarin that too many people inside is bad for air quality. LOL Then when we finally got seated she told us that it would take 40 minutes for us to get our food. And she rushed my daughter to order saying she has to leave and will have to come back if she doesn't order right then. My dad at this point was hangry and wanted to split, but my sis and I were like we drove alllll the way here. Let's just wait for the food. So of course the food comes out in maybe 10 minutes on the first dish and maybe 20 minutes on the last dish. We figure the lady is trying to weed out the unfaithful lmaooo. Later when we were done with our meal , my dad asked if we can have our desserts and the lady was like (in mandarin) "you're not the only one waiting for dessert. A lot of other people are too". Say what ? Odd customer service, ok food , but I dunno if I would go hella out of my way to come back when there's plenty of tasty Taiwanese options in the San Gabriel area. Love the big Taiwan flag on display though!

The entrance is very open with an IG friendly bench below a neon sign to the right and a shining white counter sitting in front of you. It's easy finding a seat among the chairs that litter the space, especially by an outlet for all your devices. I haven't but I appreciated the fact that the service here is all about what is the best, what to expect and how to make the experience as smooth as possible. Thankfully it is easy finding something you'd like within the vast menu. Not to mention you'd also like the fact that everything is priced pretty average compared to most places around the area.
