My birthday last month was a dud. Since you asked ... I was relegated to eating leftover eggdrop soup for dinner! Notably pissed, I demanded a do-over. Last night was the night. I was duly impressed with Berimbau in 2024 and since it was MY night -- that's where we went. (Reservations, btw always warranted.) The Picahana feast ($149) previously included salad. In light of the national cyclosporiasis crisis, they've adapted their menu: steak, corn farofa, heirloom tomatoes and creamed spinach. If you're in NYC and enjoy red meat, visit Berimbau. The Picahana feast feeds three hungry adults, with leftovers. (Note to self: next time request medium rare; medium is a tad too well done.) I enjoyed their creamed spinach a bit more than T and my daughter. It had somewhat of a gummy consistency, more pronounced when the dish cooled. We were in accord with everything else, particularly their Brazillian rolls (pao de Quiejo) and guava/stracciatella dip. Rather than order from the wine list, we brought our own. $40 corkage fee. If you follow our lead, please call in advance. Desserts are small, but rich. Two for the three of us was perfect. We shared carmelized yuca cake with cupaucacu cream and cacau & caju, a satisfying dark chocolate. There are many celebrated steak houses in Manhattan which are often super-expensive and a la carte. We spoke about Brazil and recommended me places to visit. This was my first time trying authentic Brazilian food, and Mylla made the experience so easy and enjoyable. She was passionate about her craft, and gave great recommendations for both food and cocktails. The happy hour is a fantastic deal for Midtown, with bites at $12 and cocktails ranging from $10-$12. The portions were generous, filling, and easily shareable. My favorites were the mussels and cheese bread, though the steak tartare was also delicious and uniquely flavorful. The drinks are tasty, though a bit on the sweet side. Tried the pao and the pulled pork that came with it was a little weird. The codfish was delicious! The smash burger was small, but also very juicy and tasty. I would say it was like 2 sliders. The beets were good but they only came with three so a bit on the small side as well. Love the place! I've been to the one at west village before and this one is way bigger location. I love the design of the restaurant, the only problem I have is a little bit too dark lol. The food was amazing. We ordered appetizers: pao de queijo, Camaros na cachaca, mandioca da casa, pastel, steak tartare ( everything was great except the steak tartare was different the way I pictured it) and the main course we had picanha feast. I came to the Midtown location for lunch. The restaurant is very on-theme and has a brazilian vibe inside. The service was slower than I would have liked. It took quite a while for both the appetizer and the main course to come out, which isn't ideal when you're on a lunch break. I ordered the executive lunch special, which included the pão de queijo and the feijoada plate. The pão de queijo was a bit different from the cheese balls I've had at other Brazilian restaurants. They were smaller and very cheesy inside, which was interesting. They were good, but I would have preferred them a little less hot and slightly more dense. I had never ordered feijoada before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The plate came with beans and rice, along with a green leafy salad that I ended up mixing together once it arrived. It also included sausage and another type of meat that I assume was pork. The dish was good overall, but the sausage flavor was a little overpowering and took over the rest of the flavors. I've been wanting to dine at this place for yearsssss and I finally got to last month. I took an Introductory Portuguese class back in college and my professor, who is from Brazil, taught us about her country, the culture, and the food! Ever since I took that class, it made me want to try Brazilian cuisine, and that is how I stumbled upon Berimbau. The main reason why I've been putting off going to this place for so long is honestly due to the prices, when I saw the menu online, I thought to myself, "Wow. I can probably just book a flight to Brazil instead and get feijoada for much cheaper." However, since I am no longer running on a college student budget and I've recently taken an interest in dining out at restaurants; these factors have motivated me to make a visit to Berimbau. I went with a friend and we made a reservation through Resy beforehand due to the restaurant's popularity and the fact that we also went on a weekend. Upon arriving, the server took us to our table and we ordered several items from the menu: ~FOOD~ pão de queijo: One of the appetizers that we got was the pão de queijo, it's basically gluten-free cheese bread! I actually had this before at a different Brazilian place so I already knew this was gonna be good. The inside is kind of chewy and stretchy like mochi and the cheese wasn't overpowering. I just wished that their pão de queijos are bigger though. coxinha na chapa: Another appetizer that we got was the coxinha na chapa, which kind of reminds me of a croquette with a shredded chicken filling inside except the dough part on the outside is much softer and light. The pastry also had a layer of fried cheese at the bottom and came with a spicy sweet and sour dipping sauce. My friend and I absolutely loved the coxinha na chapa, it was so tasty and not too salty. I would definitely get this again. feijoada vegana: For my entree, I got their vegan feijoada. Feijoada is actually Brazil's national dish; a black bean stew with pork or beef, served with rice, orange slices, and corn farofa (toasted corn flour). Since I got the vegan version, the stew contained tofu and vegetables instead. I had high expectations for this dish since for some reason, I thought it would be mind-blowing but it was actually a pretty simple dish, tasted like something I've had before. But I didn't mind that at all, the dish felt healthy and nutritious, something I could see myself eating often. And the orange slices surprisingly paired well with the feijoada, it added a pleasant sour and sweet flavor to the smokey and hearty stew. strogonoff: My friend got the strogonoff for her entree and she enjoyed it. I only got to try a little bit but I actually really liked it and want to get it next time! It was like a creamy tomato stew with beef and mushrooms. ~DRINKS~ I got the brazilian passion and my friend got the mango caipirinha. I definitely preferred mines over hers, her drink kinda tasted like medicine and was a bit too sweet. Meanwhile, mine had a good balance of the spirit and passionfruit. ~ADDITIONAL COMMENTS~ Overall, the food at Berimbau was delicious and high-quality. Some dishes I liked more than others but I definitely want to come here again and try other dishes. They were not skimping on the portions, the entrees could honestly feed a family of four. My friend and I couldn't even finish everything because we got full so quick! Since we went on a weekend, the restaurant had live music playing. That and their dimly lit environment made the ambiance cozy and relaxing, as if I was having dinner by the beach. Came here with a group of 5 with reservation. The waitress did a fantastic job explaining the menu and was very friendly even though one of our party was delayed. Berimbau had fantastic steak and seafood dishes. The steak experience is huge, and can serve 3 comfortably. The only thing is I wish there was a bit of sauce or something to give it more dimension. But if you're a fan of classic, medium rare steak it's a solid choice. If you have more people, I definitely recommend the Moqueca which is a seafood curry of sorts. So flavorful. They have good selection of Brazilian desserts. The Bolo de Mandioca (yuca/coconut) was light and hit the spot nicely. read more

The food was pretty good but the pacing between all the dishes was off. Appetizers came out staggered and then there was a long pause until the mains came out. The tapioca bread was good and the add on cheese was good. The coxinha dumplings were good. I wasn't expecting them to be cut and fried again but that added a nice texture. The salad with her hearts of palm is very small and the hearts of palm not noticeable since it was shaved so thin. The skirt steak was nice and tender. Not sure what the sticky yellow starch it was served with was and it wasn't very good. The fejoida great and very filling! The shredded green side it came with added some needed texture. Initially, I LOVED this place. 5/5 for food, service, and vibes. My favorite thing to order is their PÃO DE QUEIJO (so cheesy, chewy and delicious), must get with the Stracciatella and spicy guava dip! My husband and I had brunch at Berimbau last weekend, and it was a really fun, delicious meal. Berimbau is a Brazilian restaurant, and the restaurant shows it. The decor is gorgeous, fun but comfortable. And the service was great, too. We started with pão de queijo (a popular and naturally gluten-free Brazilian cheese bread), which they serve with a ricotta and brown butter herb dip. A delicious start to the meal. Then we had their Strogonoff (beef tenderloin, mushrooms, cream and tomato sauce, rice, and potato sticks). I'm a fan of stroganoff generally, but I'd never had the Brazilian take on it. It was a delicious dish - that sauce. Then we had their Feijoada, which is considered Brazil's national dish (but has roots that can be traced back to Portugal in the 15th century). It's a stew made from black beans, pork (ribs, bacon, smoked sausage), and beef, and commonly served with rice, collard greens, orange slices, and cassava flour (farofa). Berimbau's dish certainly seemed classic. For us and our palates, the dish lacked acid and was a little too heavy, meaty, rich. The dish is served with orange segments, which I understand is meant to be eaten after the feijoada as a palate cleanser to cut through the rich dish. But I ate it with the feijoada, because I thought the acid with the dish made it delicious. We're not Brazilian, and feijoada is not a dish we grew up with. I imagine that Berimbau's version is classic and might be a huge hit with everyone who loves feijoada. For us, it was just a little flat. (FYI their menu is vegan friendly and has gluten free options, which makes it a great restaurant to go with almost anyone.) Berimbau also has an amazing cocktail menu (and cocktail specials like pitchers and flights). I had and loved their Brazilian Passion (premium leblon cachaça, passion fruit, lime juice, and simple syrup), while my husband enjoyed their Caipirita (premium leblon cachaça, lime juice, and serrano pepper agave). Overall, great menu (so many new dishes to try, since I'm not familiar with Brazilian cuisine), great drinks, great atmosphere, great service. Certainly a fun and delicious meal. Food (4/5) - Got the pao de queijo (there are only 4 pieces), the star was the steak experience and the beef stroganoff. Think they just do specifically their beef pretty well. Steak was served on a bed of breadcrumbs that had been toasted in bacon fat, and they were clear on that. Adequately salted crust, didn't even need the mustard to go with it. Sauce on the beef stroganoff was also creamy and savoury without being too greasy. We used up all the rice we had to mop up the sauce. Drinks here were generally really good, there was a passionfruit cocktail that our party had seconds of, and the mango cocktail was really strong but still very yummy. Ambiance (4/5) - Not too noisy, a little dim but chic and roomy enough. Service (3/5) - Waiter got our drinks order wrong a few times, but managed in the end. Food took a while to come out even though the restaurant wasn't too busy, but probably because they wanted to pace everything to come out with the steak. Also got a reservation last minute for 6 on a Friday night. Generally prompt otherwise. Price (2/5) - Very expensive for the area, there was an additional credit card fee as well that wasn't mentioned to us until after we had paid. read more

At 5:45pm, there were no space left for 3 at the bar but you can also participate in social hour at the front section near the bar, which is where we were sat. We tried almost everything on the food social hour menu - pastel, berimbau smash burger, pao de queijo hh, codfish croquette, and beets tartare. All the food was good and our favorites was the pao de queijo and surprisingly the beets tartare. We also tried all the flavors of the caipirinha and our favorite was the guava which we each ordered at least 3 of during social hour. Even though we were by the door, the waiters and waitresses (and one was their first day) always stopped by to check up on us. I ordered two Caipirinhas which needed more sweet, the drink did not have the right balance of flavor. We ordered cod fish coquettes, pao de queso with pulled pork and empanadas. The coffee drink was quite good and it was my favorite drink at this restaurant. The food was good; I enjoyed the pao de queso and the pulled pork. The pulled was tender and flavorful. The bartender was really nice. The service was great. The place is nice quite beautiful and has a romantic atmosphere. While I have to preface this review by saying I'm not very knowledgeable by Brazilian food, our very warm and friendly waitress said she was Brazilian and said this is her fave Brazilian food in the city. Strong take but my family and I were here to celebrate a birthday and we had a beautiful time. The food was so hearty, nourishing, and good and we were all very pleased with what we ate. The feijoada was so yummy as was the other entrees we got. My brother and I's favorite thing was the dadinho though. Soooo good - I wish I could have more bites of it right now. Alonside, it came with broccolini rice, baby gem salad, etc. Overall the table side slicing presentation was a sight to watch and we really enjoyed this dish. One of the other amazing delights was this black rice with octupus and fried calamari. At first, I didn't know what to expect and have to admit the octupus was succulent and portion is quite generous. Everything blended well on the dish. Also had a braised short ribs which was incredibly tender. Lastly we shared Moqueca which was a seafood dish curry. This one we didn't enjoy so much as the seafood just sat and swam in a pool of curry sauce. Overall mostly positive hits with the exception of the seafood curry. Nah this prime Picanha Steak, rice, and fries might actually be my death row meal. This was legitimately one of the best steaks I've had in my life, my god. You Brazilians are not playing around. Pão De Queijo: first time trying Brazilian cheese bread and it was delicious! 5 piping hot, fluffy, and stretchy cheese bread comes per order.
