We have been getting take out from Beverly's for 30+ years since we moved to the area. It is far and away my favorite pizza in all the land and cannot be compared to any other styles of pizza around. Friends and family from all over the globe have been treated to Beverly's over the years and they have all loved it. My cousin in Canada craves it and it's a "must" on her list of things to do when she visits. We've ordered many different toppings but a favorite is the eggplant... which is breaded like an eggplant parm and is SO delicious. Don't sleep on this one. We also love adding jalapeños for a vinegary bite. Eli is a fixture behind the counter and loves to catch up with customers that have come in over the years. I lived in Black Rock for 7 years, moving to the west coast in 1982. The Beverly was a once a week stop during those years where I lived a short waddle home. I can still smell the store, oh the garlic! The pies are not New York style. Pan style (Greek?) and nearly frying the crust while baking in the pan. Makes for extra flavor. No fancy decorations nor foo foo ferns. Just a counter where you can sit and watch the prep, chatting with the owner. Good to see they are still around. Hopefully the same family still owns Beverly. Chris and his wife were really kind to all the came there. I saw his son and daughter grow up before my eyes (she had a gorgeous "old world" face that the Old Masters would have loved to paint). It never fails, they say 30, I come in 45 and THEN after they ask what I ordered, they begin making my salad. Argh! My lonely salad...still not being made.... Why does everyone hate on the decor? Are you eating the walls and booths? No, you're coming for the delicious pizza. This place looks AMAZING inside, like you just stepped back into 1970's New York or something. The pizza is one of only a few Greek pizza places I do like in CT, two others being Arthur's Famous on Park Ave. in Bpt., and the other Paradise Pizza in Paradise Green in Stratford. Paradise holds fond family memories, but the pizza isn't great. Only Beverly and Famous hit the nail on the head for perfect Greek pizza, cooked in a pan, lots of grease, but a moderately thin crust, something a lot of places don't understand, you want to taste everything together, not have toppings on an inch thick loaf of oily bread. Beverly, even though it's Greek, NOT Italian, is the closest thing I have found in CT, that still exists, that tastes like late 80's Pepe's in New Haven. Ah yes, where do i start, this only my 2nd time ever going here and im from bridgeport...yeah i know. Started coming because my cousin would post their pizza on social media. Today i was looking for a down home feel and my brain said hey remember that place you went to that one time. This place is a no frills kinda spot, if youre looking to teleport back in time look no further. The place is old school looking, no tvs, no nothing. They have a couple young kids working there and they even have grandpa working too! Then theres the guy with the glasses, im assuming hes the owner, kinda funny and talks alot...i appreciated the way he interacts with the customers...he called a couple of the male customers loverboy lol. Quick note, pizzas take a while so be prepared to wait. When the pizza arrived it was thin and crispy, good crunch, a little greasy but i like that...that kind of knock you out pizza if you know what i mean. Gotta give it up for Beverly. Can't give it 5 stars because of my self-imposed 5 star return visit for consistency check, BUT, damn, THE best example of New England style Greek Pizza Ive had. Actually, Papas Stamford used to wear the Greasy Pan Pizza Crown, but, they went down hill, especially after they pulled out of the bag game. (wow that sounds sex related, but its not, Papas never bought into the Italian Mob owned box payoff and simple stamped a paper bag with their logo and wrapped it up) But I digest, er diGRESS, and thats why Beverly is good. its NOT too heavy. Perfect cheese to sauce ratio (which is always slightly higher than Italian style). And they got the OLD pans to hold in the grease and taste (order a small, always a trick with New England Greek pizza, it holds the taste in. I have been known to order 2 smalls because even though it may be cost effective, 1 large just isnt as good, and i KNOW someone reading this is like, yea, thats DAMN right" As anyone knows, any good faded industrial city in New England has a Greek pizza spot, you know, they got the coca cola menu on top there, with the clip in letters and shit, they got dark wood booths with 2 day old Hartford courants or Boston globes. They got a strange candy selection on the counter with brands you never heard of and OF COURSE they got the fat Greek Guy. and this is the key. IN addition to the old pans, I am convinced the secret tasty ingredient is sequestered from his fingernails each time he pushes the dough against the 2 inch pan edges (NO toss). After reading reviews and walking into this place you fully understand every comment made. This is a childhood dream for most. Decor unchanged, staff starts to learn your name and order, and the pizza..the PIZZA. Ok Papas is still my all time favorite in CT but this pizza was pretty damn good and it was nice to get away from new haven style for once. We went in to order as I wanted to see the menu and in the 25 minutes we were there, at least 20 other people had walked in to order, pickup, and sit down. Thats a pretty poppin place for a modest looking pizza shop with the all too famous Fire Engine Pizza House (Gross) across the street Staff was super friendly. I'll fully admit that this place is getting 5 stars for nostalgia value alone. I grew up on Beverly's, and no matter where I go in the world and what pizza I have, I'll always say, "yeah, that pizza is ok, but you know what pizza is REALLY good? Beverly's." Oh sure, its greasy. Really greasy. And yeah, they don't deliver. And if you do sit there and eat, your surroundings might leave a bit to be desired. And ok, ok, fine, even if you call ahead to order and come in to pickup 20 minutes later (like they said!), you might have to wait a few extra minutes. But I don't care. I love Beverly's. For me, stepping into Beverly's is like stepping into the 80s, and not in that manufactured, VH1 kind of way. The same guys who used to think my friends and I were carving our names into the windowsill are behind the counter. They still do the "Buy 5, Get 1 free" thing that my parents used to take advantage of when my sister or I had birthday parties as kids. Even if you don't need 6 large pizzas all at once, they're still inexpensive. I recently made a pizza run for my family - we got 3 small pies (1 plain cheese, 2 with toppings) and some soda, and it came to around $20. Not only can I say that the pizza here hasn't changed since I was a kid, but my dad (a lifelong Black Rock resident) can too. That, my friends, is something amazing. I'll preface this review by saying Beverly's is not for everyone. In fact, this might be as niche a type of pizza as there is. That said, I grew up eating Beverly's as a matter of tradition every single Friday night. It's amazing I survived to make it to adulthood - it's a miracle I did so without becoming morbidly obese. As many have alluded to, what makes Beverly's such a wonderful and unique experience is that every slice is literally dripping in grease. You will feel your arteries harden and love every single bite. True story - my 1981 Oldsmobile had a grease stain on the passenger seat from the old-style flimsy boxes they used in the 90's. Anyway, I'd be doing a disservice to say the pizzas are great because of the oil and grease. The toppings (crispy pepperoni, well-done bacon) are perfectly suited to my preference and the price is abnormally cheap. I'm still shocked to this day that I get to break a $10 to get a multi-topping pizza. So, part of my love for this pizza might rest in nostalgia, but to this day I compare EVERY SINGLE pie I eat to the Friday nights of my youth. 5 stars. read more

Great spot hidden up on Fairfield Ave on the way to Bridgeport. As soon as you walk in the door you're seduced by that classic House of Pizza aroma. Yes the pizza is greasy, but that's part of the charm. The sauce is different than most and has a great flavor. Plenty of cheese and generous toppings make the pizza pop. What really separates Beverly's from the rest is the crust. It's crispy on the bottom but the pizza itself retains it's substance. Comfort crust at its finest. The prices are fantastic and if you're looking to balance things out they have a solid house salad. You can split a salad and an extra large pie with toppings and get drinks and only spend 10 bucks. A great deal for this area, especially since you'll end up taking a few slices home. This is some greasy pizza. But where I'm from, new haven style pizza isn't a thing, so getting Greek style pizza reminds me of home. For $15 you can get a large pizza (roughly the size of a Pepe's medium) with a couple toppings. The guy who owns/works there is very friendly One star off for ordering the pizza, being told it would be ready in 20 minutes, and it still not being ready when we arrived 30 minutes later. Like.. It's fine if you would just say it will be 40 minutes. Morning after, cold and still greasy, the pizza doesn't hold up quite as well. Pizza is a lot like clothing. There are a lot of different types, some more popular than others. If Fire Engine Pizza on Fairfield Ave is the designer suit, then Beverly is the comfortable sweatpants that you watch football in on Sundays. Greasy, cheesy and somehow satisfying. Some people will love it, others will wish for a more elegant experience. Beverly Pizza is unapologetic comfort food. One point I think I should touch on that many have brought up. You can not avoid a wait at this place. It's just not possible. The owner is a really nice guy, but he's in the business for the people. He lives to chat with his customers and will do so at length. I don't believe he intentionally waits to make orders, I believe he loses track of time by talking to the steady stream of people who pour into this place. read more

Might sound weird but I think the small sized pizzas taste better. So if I'm feeling hungry, I get a few small pizzas. Just be prepared to wait, even if you called in your order. The food is great but the fact that a customer is told not to use a DEBIT card and they need to bring "cash" or go to the bank is ridiculous . This has happened twice now and they have lost a 30+ year customer. I was picking lunch up for the people I work with and did not have time to "run to the bank". I love a good pizza, and Beverly Pizza House is my absolute top pick. Now I will admit it isn't for everyone. The pizza is extremely greasy, and I mean drenched in grease. You are guaranteed to clog a few arteries after going there, but the delicious taste will be worth the potential damage your doing to your body. The staff is extremely friendly, and they are pleasant to anyone looking for a bite. Oh and their pizza isn't the only good thing on the menu. They also have the best cal-zones and grinders in Bridgeport. They also make a really good salad, if your planning on eating a bit healthier. Thin crust, Greek style pizza - though not for everyone, can be amazing for fans of the style. I have been going to Beverly Pizza since I was a child. Back to the days of the Beverly Movie Theater. Yeah, I'm that old. :) When the two main guys, Dick and Chris are there and making the food it is great and consistent. You can tell when they're not there. Beverly is no frills - make no mistake. They have an award on the wall from the 80's from when they remodeled - nothing has changed visually since. They don't have wait staff so you seat yourself, get your own drinks out of the coolers and what not. As mentioned the greek style pizza known from places like Captain's, Old Towne, Mike's (all thicker) have the blunt edge, not a puffy crust like you'd get in a New York style pizza. Captain's and Beverly are the more grease prone of those listed - some people like that, some don't. Beverly uses a unique pepperoni that cups and crisps beautifully. I've been curious where they get it - I'd love to enjoy it at home without having to run to black rock, but everyone has their secrets. read more

Also have to retell them the order when you get in there, makes you question why you called in to begin with.
