The temperature outside presently when asked to wait outside of an empty house restaurant.
    A D.

It's 91 degrees not even the real feel and they refuse to let us stand inside their store while waiting for an order. Absolutely disgusted with this behavior. Slow preparation of food, absolutely a snails pace while I'm outside sweating my life away becuase I can't stand in an empty restaurant with only two people eating.

As a former-meat-eater who used to love sushi before switching to a vegetarian lifestyle, this place hit the spot! We LOVED the Spicy Tuna roll! Myself, my husband and his friend all agreed it was our favorite. The Philadelphia Roll had very realistic-tasting salmon in it! Which was such a pleasant surprise - especially since I used to love eating salmon back in the day. Last but not least, the Spicy Crab Roll had a delicious flavor combination, coming in second place as the group's favorite. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service was excellent, the ambiance was very chill.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, due to the grills being openly visible to the seating floor, it was pretty toasty inside... That was the only issue with our experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Otherwise, everything was wonderful!

I wanted to remain vegan today so I decided to try Beyond Sushi and...it was dee-licious. For my first experience, I ordered their Shoyu Ramen lunch special- it was perfect with a nice balance of spicy broth, vegetables, noodles and "beef" that had the texture of the real thing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I ordered take-out but noticed that almost every inside seat was occupied at lunchtime.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This was the best MEAL I've had in a long time, let alone the best VEGAN meal I've had! I was never a big sushi eater before I became vegan, but I'm in love with vegan sushi! I had the "beef" dumplings, Sweet Tree roll, and Pandan Mousse Cake. Everything was truly delicious, and the wait staff was very friendly. I'm contemplating going back again later today, and will definitely make this a staple anytime I'm in Manhattan. Note: I heard the server say that the menus are different at the two locations, so make sure you check out the correct one if you're concerned about the options. I was at the one on 56th.

We came here to have a late lunch and to try their vegan food. It was empty when we came, but people soon arrived after us. We ordered the chicken bahn mi, the spicy ramen, shoyu ramen, mighty mushroom roll, and five spice chicken dumplings. Everything tasted great! The service was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are plenty of tables, but it is a little small and cramped.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Regardless, we still enjoyed our food and would return.

    Pandan Mousse Cake

Yummy yum yum! I tried the Mushroom Roll, nutty buddy wrap, and the Pandan Mousse Cake. The truffle on the mushroom was just enough, not overpowering but enough to taste & still enjoy the other aspects. The tofu normally comes inside the wrap, but was ordered on the side. The sauce on the outside is visually pretty for serving, but made for messy eating. I would've preferred a container of sauce to dip into. The tofu was amazing- so so firm. I wonder what brand they use?! The Pandan Mousse Cake was delicious. The hard white chocolate shell made cutting nicely into it difficult, but that's okay. I loved the yuzu curd and the Pandan flavor throughout. Our waitress was so nice! Fun fact, she let us know that they now have to inform all customers that Beyond Sushi is completely vegan/plant based/animal protein free due to many upset customers not knowing this and being upset by the food they received (a customer came in while I was dining and promptly left after learning that the menu was vegan and that there was no animal protein fish, so I asked how often that happened). I came here for the vegan sushi & recommend it to others interested in trying vegan sushi... or just good sushi for that matter

I have never had vegan fish like this before, I got the rainbow roll which has fake tuna and salmon and I was totally blown away by the texture and taste. Granted I haven't had real fish in like 8 years but I thought it was insanely realistic. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place itself is pretty small, could probably seat around 20 people.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very clean and the servers were absolutely wonderful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After my meal I was talking with my waitress and she gave me a business card for the parent company which also owns a bunch of other vegan restaurants in NYC. They have a nice lunch special where you can get discounted menu items for a pretty good deal.

Picked this place as it was in the middle of the afternoon between actual lunch and dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's small, quaint and casual.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything I had was really tasty. The lychee juice was so yummy. Chicken dumplings were so flavorful with the sauce. The roll with the sweet potato was delicious - you don't find many places using sweet potato as an option. Staff is super friendly and accommodating here. Very much enjoyed having lunch here!

Very good sushi.. fully vegan. Excellent service (person taking our ph order was polite and efficient) and good ambience. Many mock meat heavy options but felt great eating here knowing that everything was vegan. Asked for a side of plain rice for my toddler but was given lime-flavored rice... other than that, all else was great. Enjoyed the nutty buddy (peanut butter) wrap and the spicy mang roll (mango sushi). Tasty & fresh. Would return!

I've tried a lot of beyond sushi locations around the city and I'm very pleased with the consistency throughout every experience. From take home pick up to eating at the restaurant I love their food. Service is very quick and timely and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the establishment is very clean and modern as far as the times I've gone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My favorite is their dumplings

    Ginger dumplings, Philadelphia roll

Ginger dumplings taste horrible, had better sushi then the Philadelphia roll, Coke is flat, Made it known that I had a sesame allergy and still got served my food with sesame, waiter kind of slow, [[HIGHLIGHT]]ambiance was ok.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The best vegan food I ever had, the plate canes out in beautiful presentation and full of flavors.

    Oshizushi Spicy "Salmon"
    Lemon C.

I come here every time I'm in NYC and this visit I went to Beyond Sushi 3x to try out the whole menu! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I didn't like this location as much as I like their larger one. This place is super small yet crowded for lunch on Saturday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When you walk in it's not clear that you are to pick your own table to sit, the hostess stays back by the kitchen and doesn't come greet you at the door. I was excited to see that they were copying Nami Nori's open-style sushi hand rolls. I figure better go to a vegan place so I don't taste the fish from their gloves on my rolls right? I saw the picture of Beyond Sushi's Spicy "Salmon" Oshizushi roll on their instagram and it looks nothing like the pitiful roll I got, my toppings looked much smaller. Definitely overpriced. I ordered a tea but I wasn't served water like every other table around me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bathroom is a closet, literally. The trash can had some brown substance on it, gross. The floor was wet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I got the mushroom pita and the whole roasted baby cauliflower, and both were insane. Mushroom Pita: Fresh, fluffy pita bread, with roasted mushrooms in an umami-rich tahini sauce. This was mouthwateringly good, and the mushrooms also had a great, fresh texture. Baby Cauliflower: It sounds so simple but the magic is in the execution. The cauliflower is both soft and firm at the same time; it almost melts in your mouth. There's a reason that two times we went to Miznon, they had already run out. Friendly service, and a chill ambiance. They have fresh tomatoes and long green peppers as a living decor, and they will give you a cooked pepper if you like. Take them up on their offer - the pepper is delicious (and spicy if you eat the seeds).

They say it's "Kosher Nikkei Cuisine." Nikkei, right? It's Japanese and Peruvian I think. Just the thought makes you feel like you've got a window open, looking out upon two different countries, one on each side, it's that different. The whole thing is fusion, but it's not phony. Not at all. You should have seen the edamame, perfectly salted and green, not all soggy and gray like they make them in most places. The chawanmushi they served was crazy. Smooth as anything. It was in this cute little glass jar, which is kind of a childish thing to do, but it was actually pretty special. It had some kind of crazy salmon roe, ikura, floating on top, and those salty little orange balls just pop in your mouth and taste like the actual ocean. I swear. It really did. Then they bring out some steak. It looked just plain, you know? But it was actually A5 Wagyu. If you know anything about beef, that's as high as it gets. And the sauce? The menu said Huuancaína. That's Peruvian. So it's this crazy fancy Japanese steak dipped in this spicy, cheesy Peruvian sauce. It makes me want to scream, it's so unexpected, but it works. It really does. It was the least phony steak I've ever had. The Sen Sakana Omakase was something else, though. The chef, this Japanese guy who looked about as old as my grandfather, which made you know he was serious brings out twelve pieces of nigiri and this huge spicy tuna handroll. The fish was so cold and fresh and clean. The octopus, that's some crazy tentacle stuff, was chewy but not too chewy. The whole time, I was just eating this fish and watching all the phonies walk by outside on 44th Street. It almost makes you want to cry. It was about as close to real as anything I've ever experienced. You should have seen the place. The lights were sort of dim and yellow, and the wood was all clean and sleek, not all cluttered and phony. It felt almost like you were outside. If you have to eat at a special place, you should eat at Sen Sakana. The food is good, it's not phony, and you can just watch all the morons outside and not have to talk to them. It almost makes you happy.

I had a glass of the drappier carte d'or from the sparkling wine list and it paired perfectly. The drink was light, very sparkly, and refreshing. It balanced the rich avocado and the fatty fish very well. The restaurant has a bar area and a main dining area. It has the ambiance of a standard upscale Midtown restaurant.

It lacked the bold Parmesan and peppercorn flavor that usually defines it. The fries stood out in a good way. They had great crunch and texture and were easily the most consistent item on the table. The ribeye was decent but not at the level you expect for a $90 cut. The temperature came out at a proper medium and there was a noticeable char, which added some flavor. However, it tasted like it had been reheated rather than cooked fresh. The bone was not hot and the fat was not fully rendered or caramelized, which took away from the overall experience. It was not bad, but it missed the mark for the price point. Service was good, which helped the experience. I think he regretted offering me a lamb riblet because it was ridiculously tender and melted in my mouth.
