I'd liked to start off this review by saying I never eat vegan. So I'd really give this place more of 3 stars if I ate vegan only, but that's not the case and I wouldn't feel right to lower their ratings since this restaurant isn't catered to non-vegan diners. I got the 4 Piece Sampler, Red Miso soup, Spicy Mang roll, Mighty Mushroom roll, and Smoking Tom dumplings to go. Of those, I enjoyed the 4 piece sampler and the rest were okay. As some other reviews mentioned, the Spicy Mang roll doesn't really work as the mango doesn't have much taste in itself. Also I'd get the Mighty Mushroom only if you love mushrooms, otherwise don't. It's unfortunate since I was torn between the Mighty Mushroom and the Sweet Tree, but picked the Mighty Mushroom in the end. The main reason I tried this place was because as a kid I ate this amazing sunflower seed burger and imagine other vegan places to surprise me with that taste. Just so you know I'm trustworthy, I'm not vegan. Not only do I eat meat and fish but I enjoy it. Beyond Sushi is just one of those spots that's so good I just can't help myself. I drag my coworker 4 avenues in the other direction at lunch just to get the mushroom roll which is umami perfection. If you really miss your fish, grab some sashimi at the Japanese market a few doors down to go with your artfully presented vegetable roll. So why the 4 stars? You're super healthy, but I suspect there's not a ton of protein and nutrition facts would be super helpful so I could pick rolls that would keep me fuller longer. read more

Beyond Sushi is amazing. If I could give this place 6 stars, I honestly would in a heartbeat. The ingredients here are always fresh and the food here is always wonderfully consistent. I've never had a problem with my order any time I eat at Beyond Sushi. My go-to items are the Mighty Mushroom roll, the Crunch N Much the roll, and the Spicy Shroom wrap. My favorite sauces to accompany them are the Shitake Teriyaki, Toasted Cayenne, and the White Miso. I recently also tried the make your own soup option which is filling and delicious. The worst service ever! My husband and I just went there and they didn't even greet us. Then they took like 15 minutes to come and ask us what we were going to order to drink. Meanwhile other people came in after us they were already serving them their drinks... then we ordered food 2 soups on a rainy day , they brought the 2 soups before our drinks the soups were extra cold instead of hot and we asked if they Can te heat the soups they took another 15 mins and they were still cold. Plus my husband ordered a hot mint tea and they never brought the tea he only drank water... maybe is a racial thing. They have lots of unique rolls with varied ingredients and flavors. Since we couldn't get everything on the menu we picked four rolls, no choice is a bad choice here! The $9.50 combo 1* was not filling, and took way too long to be ready with absolutely no one in front of me to constitute the wait, so cross it off as a quick lunch option. In the same vein, I placed my order at the register and told the guy my phone # to get the loyalty points (a method they advertise), yet he voided the transaction and asked that I order from my phone, so I asked for the WiFi password and he refused to provide it. He assured me that, once placed, they'd start the order and call my name when ready, but many minutes later they were trying to figure out who I was and what I'd ordered. Mind blown. After suffering through countless mediocre sushi restaurants and having to give them the Spanish Inquisition about the presence of fish sauce in the miso soup Beyond Sushi was like a running into Bar Refaeli in a club full of sweaty tweaking twerkers. To say this place is absolutely perfect is an understatement and comes no where near capturing how out of the world the whole concept is. From the ambiance to the menu and plate presentation my mind grapes were swimming to keep up with just how in hell I got so lucky to end up here. I almost wish Beyond Sushi just offered a sampler platter of all of their dishes. They take veggie sushi way out of the avocado-cucumber-tofu box. If authenticity is your thing I might look elsewhere but if you're looking for chef-designed pieces with relatively inexpensive price tags in a casual environment, look no further. Suffice it to say, I think fish-eaters could definitely enjoy it nearly as much as I did. The next best thing to trying all of their sushi is getting the four piece sampler. In hindsight, I wish I spent a little more time on each one because each one was so different. My favorite was the harissa corn piece, with the cauliflower and almond pesto piece also being quite a standout. I paired those four pieces with the Mighty Mushroom roll which was incredible. The shiitake truffle sauce on it was bursting with flavor and it was definitely the most inventive and possibly the best mushroom roll I've ever had. I also loved that their rolls all come with black or multi-grain rice. Again, I know it's not the most authentic sushi out there but it brought each roll more crunch and flavor. At the risk of sounding totally bougie, these folks know how to bring out a flavor profile. Having so many delicious sushi choices felt like such a luxury! An order of dumplings comes with four pieces for approximately $6 - the Fun Guy dumplings are AMAZING. Packed with flavor, you don't even miss the meat! I've never had mushrooms in a dumpling before (can't ya tell I'm not vegan?) and this is something I could order again and again. Their sweet potato roll is also yummy! What I wasn't thrilled with was the mushroom chili. Whoever filled my soup cup barely put any mushrooms in it. It was basically just the broth... not what I expected. Very subtle on the flavors and I guess I was expecting more of a normal vegetarian sushi flavor blast. The coconut curry soup needed more tart or salt, but they had no limes so I just added salt. The seasonal roll (with kobucha and avocado) also needed help. The ginger flavor helped a lot but overall it felt underwhelming to me. Mind you, I had no soy sauce in the meal, but we shouldn't have to have soy sauce or add salt for food at a restaurant to taste good. All the rolls are made with purple rice (which I've been told is much healthier than white rice), veggie, mushroom, nuts, or fruit. The mighty mushroom roll is the best non-fish sushi I have ever had. If you are a mushroom lover, you will definitely enjoy the perfectly cooked mushroom! The spicy mang was pretty good as well but just having mango in my sushi was perhaps a bit too light for me.
