We ate at the Reno location I believe it was July 25th 2025. I had the burger with jack cheese & avacado. It did not taste good from the first bite. It seemed like the meat was old & under cooked for my taste. I guess I should have said something. The bun was soggy & everything slipped apart as I tried to eat it. The green salad was good but not that burger that looked & sounded so good. We might go back but I will never order that again! I will try the standard hamburger. Went to Black Bear for dinner. Never had their dinner menu so I figured hey why not! Well service was pretty great. Our server was nice and polite. Food came out fairly quick. Salad was good, meat loaf left something to be desired but nothing ketchup can't fix. My problem I had was that the menu says a price but I was charged a different price. Example being that I ordered the meatloaf dinner combo, menu said 16$ but I was charged 16.99$. It may just be a dollar difference but it's the principle that I was overcharged. Expecting one price but paying a higher price. Doesn't affect me and when I brought it up to the cashier, all she said was that she would ask her manager. No offer to charger the proper price or anything. I'm more concerned that this will not be addressed and affect more people! Charge what's the advertised price or get new menus to reflect the new price. read more

Came here with a group of 5 friends for some brunch and the second you walk in all you can smell is just shaving food. It was pretty busy but we got sat down right away. Our server was very attentive and very polite. I ordered the bears choice so I upgraded to the Blackberry stuffed French toast and got bacon with a hand teak and sausages on the side. The upgrade was well worth it. Prolly one of the best French toasts I've ever had, and this meal was very filling. We had Saint patch day there. It was awesome. My wife is just thrilled with it, she wants to go back for turkey. Obviously she does not have any taste We had turkey day there. The only thing you can describe it was awful noticed oh yeah, they run out of the turkey stuffing when we were there we had to have some therapy well we should do with the potatoes were not real potatoes there a instant potatoes and turkey was slated. I could come out of a roast , plus it did not have any taste of tile I asked for one so we only have $116 a bottle we don't know what it is though but it's really good ha ha ha so we had a salad with the turkey it was served and then one minute later the turkey was served in a fashion you can I bully yougo there again no no no if my wife says go there let's go there. I knew what I wanted and ordered it without a menu but the cashier didn't know the menu. So she gave me one so I could look at it to show her and said she'd be back in a minute. She was not. So a young kid took my order. Well I thought he did. But then I had to repeat it to someone looking over his shoulder. Third time. I paid and waited. They didn't tell me when my order was ready. Pros: This location had AMAZING servers and staff on Thanksgiving day! Everyone was engaging, with happy smiles, and quick on their feet. We appreciated them all! Cons: Not sure what happened in the kitchen today, but the traditional turkey dinner was positively disgusting. Stuffing was flavorless, dry & mealy. Mashed potatoes were straight out of a box, and both were served ice cold. Turkey was mostly palatable, but the gravy was cold, slimy and had zero flavor. Cornbread muffins and salad were the best part of the meal. As we were leaving (around 3:30) we overheard a server telling newly seated patrons there was no more stuffing. (No big loss, but the dinner crowd hadn't even started to arrive yet!) Overall, a pretty disappointing experience for $25/plate. If not for the wonderful staff trying their best to accommodate everyone, I would have to call this a complete fail. read more

I feel like the quality of Black Bear has gone down recently. I ate here before a few years ago and enjoyed the experience a lot more. The service is pretty good here but the food is hit or miss. I enjoyed my sandwich but I distinctly remember not having enough dressing for my salad so it just tasted like water. The "country style" potatoes that someone else at my table ordered were sloppily cut, burned in parts, and the onions they mixed in with them looked almost raw. I think you can still have a good experience here if you order the right thing but for me it's just not enjoyable enough to take the time for a sit down meal. read more

It was a very friendly atmosphere. The staff was great. They always checked on me to see if I was OK or needed anything else, the food was good. I was in the mood for some pie. It was too late to go to mix bakeshop, and I was near blackbear, so I decided to try their dessert. I called ahead to check what was available and was told they had cobbler not pie. The difference was just no bottom crust. I chose the Apple and Blackberry 'cobbler.' Cherry was also available. They also have a good selection of cream pies, and a fresh strawberry pie that looked amazing. When I arrived, the desserts were already boxed up. The cashier was nice and friendly. The desserts were really a good size portion and quite tasty. There was plenty of fruit in each. The apple cobbler had tons of apples in it, and not that much of the gel (which seems to be the style of today's desert, tons of Apple gel, few apples) I have been going to blackbear diner' for many years. A few years back, they had Teddy bear Tuesday where kids got to eat for free. There was no 'One free for each adult meal' requirement. So all 5 kids were free for 2 adults. Black bear diner is a great choice for breakfast in Reno. My usual here is the huevos rancheros. I have tried huevos rancheros at a bunch of different places in Reno, and none compare to Black Bear Diner. The plates are also HUGE. I always have enough to take home for a second meal. The theme of the restaurant is super cute. I love all the creative bears throughout. Between the gift shop, the giant wooden bears, and the wall decor, it's very comfy and happy to be inside. I especially love the bear slippers available in the gift shop, one day I will get a pair! I also always get a pie when I come in. The banana cream and coconut creams are delicious! Always love Black Bear Diner and it's one of my favorite breakfast spots. I haven't been to this location before so this was a first time here for me. This was one of the very rare times we didn't have to wait to be seated. That's always a nice surprise when going out for breakfast and everyone is tired and hangry. I got avocado toast and as always, the portions here are huge. The entree came with two eggs (any style) and fruit. The slices of toast are massive and I couldn't finish them. What was disappointing was the service. It was good at first but then when it came to refills on drinks, it was very slow. Then when we were ready to leave, we didn't see our server for quite some time. I ended up walking to the front and asking for the check. We paid right then and there so we could leave. Who doesn't like Black Bear Diner right? This place is great! Good home style cooking and suuuuper friendly staff! I came in here on Christmas day after we were treated very rudely at another establishment and this place was swamped! The servers and staff were running around like crazy and were clearly stretched to their capacity but all of them had the sweetest smile and were so pleasant. The kitchen was slammed so wait times were a little slow for food and they had a limited holiday menu but that was okay because the service was so good. The waitress accidently rung in my order wrong so I didn't exactly get what I ordered. When I pointed it out to her she apologized and let me know it would be about 20 minuetes to get the order corrected (I ordered a salad with grilled chicken but it came out with fried chicken tenders instead) so I opted to just eat it since I had to get back on the road and I picked the chicken off. My sister's order was wrong too but that was the kitchen's fault (they forgot to add cheese to her sandwhich) but we didn't bring that up to the server. In the end our super kind waitress ended up brining us dessert on the house to make up for the error. It was so kind and really unexpected! From the great hostess at the door to the bussers and servers everyone here really pulled their weight and made it a really nice Christmas for us. Consistency is key, right? I've had many meals at this Black Bear location for just that reason. The menu has a lot to offer from omelettes, sandwich he's, burger, salads, and home style favorites like pot roast and meatloaf. There really is something for everyone. Tonight I ordered an omelette that had spinach, tomato, mushroom, bell pepper and cheese. I asked that they leave the spinach out, but the kitchen made an error and the spinach was not removed. Our waitress apologized for the error, and removed the item from our tag without me even asking or mentioning it. She noticed the spinach On her own, acknowledged the mistake and did what she could to make it right. Fantastic service! The servers are all very friendly, the foothe dining rooms are clean, and the seats are comfy. What more could you want in a diner? Update: We ordered delivery tonight, that's how we "dine out" during Covid-19. I have to say, Black Bear did not disappoint. We will definitely order delivery again. read more

Been here a couple of times. It's in the Max Casino, so it's a Casino environment. The Restaurant itself is kind of small, and the floors could use a good sweeping/monitoring, constantly. The food is okay, but not really memorable. Decent prices though, and the Staff is okay. Not overly friendly, but not rude, either. Biggest complaint is that the place closes at 8 pm.
