My partner and I came for Sunday brunch with a reservation for 11:00 am. We were seated promptly and served a pitcher of water and started chowing down. We went right for the seafood. Lots of crab clusters (nice size), large headless shrimp and fresh oysters. Cocktail sauce in a bowl and a cup with horseradish with small empty cups you could take to mix together. The seafood was all good - plentiful, cold, flavorful. We didn't try the eggs, sausage, bacon or breakfast potatoes - standard fare at brunch buffets. The eggs had cheese mixed it (just to let you know). We did try try the salmon, shrimp and grits (with sausage and cherry tomatoes) - delicious, and the penne with sausage and shrimp. Also very good. The menace for the penne and the grits - very buttery. Very good. We each had an omelette that we ordered with crab, shrimp and veggies and no cheese. They both came with cheese unfortunately. The server offered to have the chef make new ones but I didn't want to waste all the crab meat and shrimp. So I just ate the innards of mine and my partner ate theirs. The innards were delicious and there was a lot of crab meat and shrimp in the omelette. The weak point was the chicken and waffles. The waffle was fine but the chicken was dried out. Really too bad - everything else was delicious and well prepared. Fresh fruit and small pastries/yogurt parfait for dessert. The fruit was very juicy and fresh (I had cantaloupe and pineapple). Note that they charge separately for coffee, tea and soft drinks. ($4 for coffee on top of a $50 buffet). It was really good coffee. One suggestion I would make is to add a veggie entree - like a tray of green beans in olive oil/garlic or something else simple. Not many veggies in this brunch other than potato salad and green salad. I would dock a half point for the omelette issue and the dried out chicken, but, other than those things the food was really good and the service was good. I assume the omelette thing was a one off. I understand it's peak season and the Fourth of July weekend, so I expected things to be busy. Our server was friendly and pleasant throughout the meal. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience fell well below expectations. We waited about 20 minutes just to receive our drinks, and some people in our party didn't even have water, requiring us to ask multiple times just to get a glass. The timing of the food was also disappointing. We had specifically requested that the salads be served before the entrées, but everything arrived at the same time. Two burgers were cooked well beyond the requested temperature, and several items were forgotten altogether. When we mentioned the missing items, there didn't seem to be any sense of urgency to correct the situation. The biggest disappointment was an order of oysters that didn't arrive until after everyone else had nearly finished their meals. What surprised me most was that, despite all of these issues, a manager never once stopped by our table to check on us or acknowledge that things weren't going well. A simple visit to apologize, explain the delays, or offer assistance would have gone a long way. I understand holiday weekends are challenging for restaurants, but this felt like more than just a busy night. It seemed like there was something off with the system or process being used to manage tables, food timing, and communication between the kitchen and front-of-house staff. The good news is that this feels fixable. Better coordination, communication, and support for the serving staff--and more visible involvement from management when problems arise--would likely prevent many of the issues we experienced and make for a much better customer experience. read more

But what I did notice is there was a table in front of our table and it had food from a previous party that left. The waitress has not cleaned it the whole time we were here. I pointed it out to the waitress that moved us and cleaned our table (which by the way we had not gotten our food yet so it was pretty cleaned) and she still had not cleaned it. The guy was no where to be found. We helped the family call 911, stayed with them , asked for ice and waited for the ambulance. They had to move our table for the paramedics had to stop eating. A couple behind us had just sat down couldn't eat their food because the ambulance was there. They weren't given the option to move or asked were they fine. Management never came over and said I'm sorry or anything. We asked for a courtesy apology or compensation for the time our meal was interrupted. There were 2 hostess this particular night and they were contradicting each other. I ordered firecracker shrimp tacos, scallops and shrimp risotto, chili wings, crab dip and a bacon burger. The best item of the night was the burger. Cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I can't speak much about the rest. The risotto was terrible, it tasted as if something went sour, the rice was mushy like pudding. The name and décor are confusing. Is it pirate-themed, seafood-forward, American comfort food, or a breakfast spot with a painted sunshine mural? We'll never know. We started with fried calamari. Which arrived like overcooked bread orbs. Some tentacles were there, but they also seemed melted and crunchy. The dipping sauce was surprisingly good. My mahi-mahi tacos were cold and slimy and must have sat for a long time before they were brought to the table. Service is profoundly slow, and we wondered if we had been sitting there for days. The fries somehow tasted like air, and even the ketchup was shitty. The burger had a dense, meatloaf-y chew, also dry. The crab and corn chowder soup was actually tasty, as was the seafood chicken flatbread. But then came the bourbon on the rocks -- which, amazingly, comes with a $2 ice surcharge. See pic below. The portions were large and she enjoyed the pico and coleslaw. Someone ordered the shrimp baguette appetizer for their meal and said that hands-down, she would order that every time she came back. One of our guests had the rockfish and asked for the vegetables that normally come on the salmon for a substitution. They welcomed the substitution and it came out perfect. I did order a pear martini that arrived with a pear slice that looked like it had been sitting for some time. The drink was horrible! No flavor, just bland. Simple syrup would have given it some sort of a flavor profile. The rest of the table also sent back their Pear Martinis. The service was slow and I believe it was because of a large table that had ordered just before my table arrived. That happens and I get it. Review Title: Check your food! I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent visit to Blackwall Hitch in Rehoboth Beach on Friday 6/20/25 has urged me to write one. This evening was unfortunately not an enjoyable dining experience for my family and me. We planned to have dinner at Above the Dunes Restaurant which we have been to before and loved! They were unfortunately fully booked due to a busy Friday night, so we popped into Blackwall Hitch Restaurant next door for our last family dinner down the shore before we left to go home the next day. There were a few people at the bar having drinks but not too crowded and the vibe seemed pretty good for a hot early evening in June. We did not have a reservation so we were super happy when the hostess said that she could seat us right away (4 adults + 1 toddler). We sat down at the table and the young server came right over to us. She was very friendly and took our drink orders right away. The drinks and appetizers came out in a timely manner, but the entrees took a long time considering there were only a few tables sitting for dinner. When the entrees finally came, the food was the biggest letdown. My mom and sister both ordered crab cakes with rice and vegetables. When my mom took her fork to begin eating her meal, she found a very large metal rivet sitting under her pile of rice!!! The rivet was large, metal, and it had some black grease or paint from the pot it came off of on it. How the hell could the kitchen have missed that when plating her food? Wouldn't they have heard a metal clunk on the plate when they put the rice on there? Or even when they cooked the rice didn't they realize a metal rivet was missing from the pot? We told the server right away and the manager, an older gentleman, came right over to us to apologize and said that he would take my mom's meal off the bill. We did not want to create a scene, but I personally feel that our whole dinner should have been taken care of by the manager since our dinner was ruined. We all stopped eating our food as soon as she found it out of fear of finding anything else in ours. I think we were all in shock at what she found that at the time we didn't know how to react but now looking back on the incident we definitely should have told the manager to take care of the whole bill for us. After her entree was taken off ($44 for the crab cake entree) our bill was $219.00 for the rest of the food we barely touched. My sister even had the same entree that she didn't touch. Her rice was in the same pot since they both ordered the same entree. Her entree should have been comp'd as well. None of us even took our food that we stopped eating home. Thankfully, it was a large rivet and not a small one and my mom was able to spot it right away in her rice without choking on it. My 19-month-old nephew was dining with us as well and thank God a smaller piece of a rivet/ or metal was not in his macaroni and cheese and he didn't choke on anything. Could you imagine the horror. Again, I can't help but wonder how the kitchen staff missed this before sending the plate out to us. What was supposed to be a nice family dinner ended up being very disappointing and not cheap considering we found metal in our food. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously. Anyway if you compare to the price about $44, I think it was a little pricey. I also tried JUMBO LUMP CRAB CAKE - Lettuce, tomato, cherry pepper remoulade, challah bun. This one was very tasty. I am not sure how much, maybe around $30. About service, the staffs was fine as a standard. So overall this trip I enjoy my meal and had a nice experience, Nothing is a big dissatisfy. Pretty good but a bit pricey. The inside is spacious and well decorated. My toddler loved the helm hanging from the wall. I enjoyed the kale caesar salad quite a bit. The calamari was also very good, but beware that sometimes you will be eating fried hot peppers and not squid rings. The Maryland crab and corn chowder was on the salty side however. Not a fancy sphere, not crystal-clear Japanese slow-melt ice, not anything remotely justifiable. Just frozen tap water. This isn't "hospitality." This is daylight robbery dressed up as policy. What kind of establishment thinks it's acceptable to squeeze their guests over something so basic, so fundamental, so insulting? It's the restaurant equivalent of charging extra to turn on the lights. If management believes this is clever business, they should brace themselves: customers don't forget being treated like fools. You don't nickel-and-dime bourbon drinkers--you lose them. Permanently. Plenty of restaurants actually respect their patrons. This one has made it clear they don't. I wanted to like this place a lot more than I did. We drove up to Rehobeth for the evening while staying in OCMD. After looking at the reviews I thought this place would be good, the dinner took a turn really quick. The hostess was zooming around we couldn't even grab her to see if we could get an open booth instead of the table she gave us. Then our server came seemed nice, but then when she brought our drinks over they were dropped and smashed everywhere, much of which landed near the large table behind us. Of course this was an accident that can happen, but the post smash was the concern. I'm not sure if it was because they were short staffed or the employees were improperly trained, but we got nervous someone would slip or cut themselves on glass because it was never properly cleaned up (even when we were leaving there was still visible glass and water underneath the table next to us). As a table of all people who have worked in customer service and the food industry, the safety hazard this caused was really unnerving the rest of our dinner. The server also needs to slow down tremendously, I get they were busy and seemed like little help and no manager in sight, but she almost fell quite a few times because she was practically running around (for sure jogging). This is a major accident waiting to happen. As for the food it was tasty and hot, the wait was super long, but we were also told by our server it would be a wait so we understood that going into it. This place has a lot of potential, but needs supportive management, more employees, and ensure the staff is properly trained in safety and possibly required to wear safe serve nonslip shoes to avoid the potential slipping that we saw quite a few times. read more

I came to Blackwall Hitch with my husband for a mid-week happy hour around 3:45pm. Happy hour is from 2-5pm Monday-Friday. I love that their happy hour is 3 hours long, but I wish the timeframe was shifted by an hour or so. Regardless, their happy hour drink prices can't be beat! I ordered the Anchor Cabernet and my husband had 2 different draft beers. As for happy hour food we ordered the fried green tomatoes. You really can't go wrong with anything deep fried! My husband and I were also excited to have some fresh oysters. We were told that there were only Chesapeake Bay oysters available so we went ahead and ordered a 1/2 dozen. Those olives make all the difference between a great martini and something I can make at home. Lemonade- The lemonade was really good, I drained it pretty fast. Meal- The calamari was crispy and delicious, and the sauce added so much extra flavor that gave the calamari a huge pop. The caesar salad was delicious, the dressing was spectacular with the romaine. The margarita flatbread was nothing special. Wow! I highly recommend coming here and it's kid friendly. First, the place itself is stunning. It's huge with lots of seating and the bar is huge with a couple of TVs. The staff is super friendly and our server, Ike, was amazing! He was so funny and attentive to our needs throughout our experience. He was very knowledgeable of drinks and food. He also went through and made some excellent recommendations. Also, I was extremely impressed with the teamwork. I saw everyone taking the time to run food and bus tables, which is admirable given the age range I saw here. A very lucky establishment to have workers like them. My husband had a few cocktails which he noted being really good. I was thankful for the cold wine, which came quick both times. The food .. wow! We started with the crab dip which I highly recommend. Same feelings on the other shrimp app. My drink, which was this mango lemonade mix was overly sweet. I ended up diluting it with my water cup which made it a little bit better. Shockingly this drink was $8, would not recommend unless you love the taste of strong sugar. I got the Grilled Bone in Pork Chop with the sides it came with, the sweet potato was good but could use some seasoning and butter. The broccoli was perfectly cooked and seasoned. With the pork chop it was meh, cooked well, wasn't dry but really lacking seasoning. The sauce the came on it was bland, it needs something else. My boyfriend got the Firecracker Shrimp Tacos that he said were really good, the fries were really crispy, better than McDonalds for sure. The tacos were pretty good in his words, tortilla was crispy and so was the shrimp. All in all I would recommend but don't be afraid to use that salt and pepper on the table. read more
