When I was a little kid, this location was a classic old Mexican restaurant called La Avenida, so it's nice to see a quality Mexican restaurant occupying the spot today. The space is very roomy with nice, subdued lighting, and lots of fun decor. We started off with guacamole and queso. I don't really eat cheese, so I can't speak to the queso, but the guacamole was good. For my entree, I got the chile verde burrito which came with beans and rice. I loved the salty whole beans, but the rice was really bland and mushy. The burrito was pretty good, but could have used some time on the grill to add a little textural variety. The star of the show was our waitress who was super friendly and attentive. She really helped elevate the experience by engaging with us and keeping things moving. I'd been meaning to try this restaurant since it opened. I finally did so last night, and I was so impressed. The service was amazing! They made me a custom margarita according to my specifications, even recommending a tequila from their extensive collection. We started with the Queso Fundido appetizer which comes with handmade flour tortillas, the thin kind. It was delicious, a generous serving, and I could've made a meal from it. For my entree I chose the Tucson Chimichanga filled with chicken tinga. Wow!! It was ginormous and came with either refried pinto or black beans, guacamole, and rice. We've tried just about every restaurant in Coronado twice so we were stoked to see this new restaurant and couldn't wait to experience it. After waiting about an hour to get in on a Tuesday, we were in--and let me tell you, it was worth the wait! The vibes of this place are everything--great decor, lively music, lots of people, large comfortable table seating whether you're a party of 2 or a party of 10--theres lots of room! Our server was excellent. As soon as we were sat, she wasted no time coming right over and making sure we had drinks and chips and salsa--and continued to ensure we were refilled and stocked up throughout our meal. We ordered the mango shrimp ceviche as an appetizer--very fresh and delicious--Exactly what you want after a day at the beach--and also the warm queso dip. The menu has excellent variety and although we went with their draft beers, they have so many different cocktails to choose from--each one sounded amazing! For our meals, we ordered the spicy shrimp scampi fajitas and short rib beef machaca chimichanga burrito "enchilada style"...*whew, that's a mouthful lol* Enchilada style--as our server explained to us--is half verde sauce and half red sauce. It was very good and it is a very big, so you're definitely getting your money's worth. We also upgraded our side to the grilled street corn, which is an additional cost but definitely a must because it's delicious! The spicy shrimp scampi fajitas were also very good. I was a little bummed that there were only 6 shrimp (basically two shrimp per tortilla as they provide you with either three corn or flour tortillas), but they were larger shrimp and their grilled flavor did not disappoint, along with the charro beans that come as a side. You must get the charro beans--they are excellent! Overall, we were incredibly pleased with our meal and had such a great time and experience at Blanco. This place is newer and definitely worth a visit. Had lunch here on a Sunday and we we're luckily sat right away. It is decorated so nicely. I loved the style. They are also dog friendly (at least on the patio). The food was SO GOOD. I can't wait to eat here again. Everything had such great flavor and the portions were perfect. I had the braised short rib enchiladas and I'd recommend them to anyone. The pastor chicken tacos were also incredible. The servers/staff were very accommodating. Visited Blanco Cocina based on Yelp reviews and because they had all day happy hour on the beautiful sunny Tuesday in July. I was alone exploring Coronado Island while my husband attended a conference in San Diego. I was seated on the nice outdoor patio while made for great people watching. There was chips and really good salsa that I had with my cocktail while waiting for my burger and fries. There was a lot of food for the happy hour prices. Husband and I had just two nights to enjoy Coronado, and we dined at Blanco for one of them. You know it is a good place when it is packed. All the screens had the Olympics on, though at some point switched to a Padres game. Service was excellent. Several servers were circulating in the bar and were very friendly. Olivia served us once we sat down and she was tremendous. She was just the right degree of attentive, and in spite of a packed house on a Friday night, our food came out perfectly and promptly. Our meals were delicious! I had the Tulsa chimichanga, enchilada style and husband had fajitas. All was great, and the guacamole was fabulous. Tall pina coladas made with dark rum also totally hit the spot. What a great experience! We started at Mc P's bc we wanted to watch our home team's football game. It was a disorganized mess there and my husband doesn't tolerate that kind of ineptness so we walked over to Blanco. What a difference! They couldn't have been nicer! The manager on duty, Troy, was glad to put our game on and we were seated right in front of the screen. Our server was attentive and showed true hospitality all through the meal. I also noticed the bussers were also right "on it" when the tables needed bussing and cleaning. And, on top of all that the food was so good! Amazing Service! I was in SD 4 work trip with my 2 kids (4yrs & 6mo). The night before we went to eat at another SD restaurant after the drive up to SD. Long story short we waited almost 2 hours no food and kids fell asleep. The next day we planned a trip to see xmas lights in Coronado. We were unsure of where to eat that would be kid friendly. Hostesses was quick to greet us and was super friendly. I told her i had the 2 kids and that if she could seat us in a place that could meet our needs. She said "yes, i believe so" and when to confirm that it was available. She sat us in a spot where I could park my stroller and keep my 6mo baby sleeping and comfy. My 4yo sat on the booth side and had room to wiggle. The waiter quickly checked in and got us our drinks and answered questions about the menu. All the staff was friendly and the Manager stopped to ask how we were doing too. Drinks: I had a jalapeño and pineapple margarita that was delish!! Food: I ordered the short rib chimichanga and was not disappointed. The only note to add was that i asked for them to skip the melted cheese on top. My cousin got the poblano crema enchiladas and she said they were amaging. Chips and salsa were amazing. Not all tortilla chips are made equal. The salsa had great flavor and it was the right amount of spice, not too hot and not too bland. My son got the quesadilla and the kids meal was only 7$. Beans and rice that come with the food were so yummy. Not your typical red rice and pinto beans. They served white rice with corn and delicious black beans. We came here for fish tacos, but we ended up getting a lot more--the queso, fish tacos, carne asada tacos, carnitas tacos, mango stand margarita and spicy skinny margarita. The only note is we wished that there was a little more stuff on the carnitas and carne asada ones. The fish tacos were piled up, and there was just a little less stuff on the others.
