This was mine and my friend's first time here. Very nice place. Loved the service and the ambiance, however, my French toast arrived cold. I was a little confused about that, as it was not crowded AT ALL on this particular Sunday. I didn't care too much for the fruit presentation either. Strawberries were too finely chopped, I didn't feel that to be necessary. I think all the flavors were there, but it being cold turned me off and I couldn't enjoy it. We went to Blue Jam several years ago in Sherman Oaks, and it was a good. We went to the Atwater location yesterday, and it was a very different experience. 1. Like many places these days, you scan a barcode on your phone to view the menu. But here, you also order AND pay AND tip before you even get the food. 2. No one ever brought us water or napkins. 3. When the food was delivered, an $18 plate was missing, and we had to point it out. 4. No one came by to check that things were good or to refill waters, etc. Admittedly, my plate of Simple Eggs was good. It was tasty and hearty. The Churro French Toast and Crunchy French Toast were wildly bland. They don't provide maple syrup because the chef wants you to experience as it was intended. And if you like things with almost no taste, you will love these dishes. I don't love leaving negative reviews because I think most people/businesses try their best. But I left feeling like we were taken advantage of? The prices are high, which is fine by me if the food and service are good. But I didn't love taking my own order and tipping before the meal/experience was complete. (FYI, I'm also not the type of person to not tip, or tip poorly if I'm unhappy. It's more the principle.) I heard that you can also walk up to a counter and order, but it was busy inside, and so we opted to use the "scan" function at the table. I've scanned menus before, but if I'm taking the order myself, I'm not totally sure what I'm tipping for. The cafe has an open vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating. There are QR codes at the table for you to order from and you can place your order from your phone. The Atwater Village location was good. Great service, went on a weekday and it was not crowded. Their French toast always is an amazing and sweet start to your day. The grilled potatoes were perfect and a great complement to the French toast. Their passion fruit tea was average, it is not sweetened but it was a good wash down for the food. The matcha was phenomenal, it wasn't watered down and it tasted amazing every sip. The crunchy but yet fluffy texture of the french toast makes for a perfectly crafted breakfast. The vanilla bean sauce they serve on the side for the french toast is also very good that I don't know whether or not to dip my french toast in it, drizzle it on top of the french toast or straight up drink it (although I wouldn't advise drinking it, trust me. lol.) Came on a gorgeous Saturday morning. They do a beautiful job on the food presentation, but the food itself was mediocre at best for the prices they charge. I think there might have been canned tomatoes used in my shakshuka (I'm not sure), which was disappointing. Bread was OK. I've had superior shakshuka at other places (s/o to Penny Oven in eagle rock). We went away thinking that we could make this at home. It's self-order via a web app (you do not need to make an account) or order at the counter and they bring it to you. The waitress was super though, we appreciated her attentiveness. Most important part of my review is to say a heartfelt thank you to Efrain. You are one of the GREAT ones! One of the kindest and most attuned people I've ever met working in service. I've been to Blu Jam a few times and have always been satisfied with the food and the service. The Cliquillas are the best I've had at a restaurant. Being single and eating out in Atwater is not a very welcome experience but the staff at Blu Jam are particularly inviting and attentive. Ambience - cozy, well ventilated, options to dine indoor or outdoor. Cons: Parking - street. Hard to get one especially if you're not early. Waitlist system - they mentioned online that you can start checking in if you're within 5 miles. We tried but their system failed. I am sad to leave a three-star review because the food here is good. However, even though the restaurant is set up for minimal-to-no service, there should be someone/anyone, to interact with. My salmon Benedict (part of an order for four people at my table) was very cold. I understand that the smoked salmon, English muffin, and even the spinach might not be warm, but the EGG and the hollandaise sauce were cold, rendering the entire meal inedible. I kept looking for someone but they only have people who deliver the food - no one checks in except the person who clears the table. In fact, the person who delivered the food never came back with the hot sauce he offered to bring although that ended up not an issue because the hot sauce on the table --although labeled extra spicy--was okay for my parent-in-laws. I had to look for a box to take meal home. I understand that it's hard to staff restaurants these days but we are still leaving 20% even for self-serve and hybrid restaurants so there should have been someone to talk to about my inedible dish. read more

Ordered 2 eggwhiches with potatoes as the side. it never occurred to me why places don't serve breakfast sandwiches with lettuce and tomato or why a croissant or bagel is the common bread choice for them either. I get it now! You use a bread with more omph because otherwise there's not much going on or at least not much that someone can't just make at home. Which is exactly how I felt when I bit into the sandwhich. Sure there's a chipotle aoli but it didn't contribute enough to justify how greasy it made it. The lettuce here is really at the forefront texturally and even flavor wise, don't get me wrong it's good lettuce but it's not what I look forward to in an egg sandwich. It's also just not a good combinaton. The potatoes are cooked so well but the only flavor I really got from it was a piece of parsley I bit into. I was very excited about trying this new place. Every time I would drive by I would always see several people waiting in line. I got a chance to come by and taste the food with a friend. The customer service was very good. I ordered the breakfast burrito which came with potatoes and also ordered a latte. The burrito was really good but I didn't care for the potatoes very much because they were a little overcooked and unfortunately my latte never arrived. They completely forgot about my drink. I also had to prove that I bought it by showing my receipt and there was not a lot of people there at the time. Prior to my burrito arriving the server had to ask who ordered the burrito before it got to my table. It just doesn't seem as if they're quite organized yet. My husband and I finally went to this location yesterday for a Saturday brunch experience. I have to say that I was really disappointed. The customer service wasn't too great. And when we order their specialty the infamous French toast I must say it tasted like it was coming out of a microwave meal. Pre made not fresh at all. So glad my mom and I came here for breakfast! The food is so freaking fire. It's basically all self serve besides the plates someone brings you the food. Which is great, you can pay at your table or order and pay at the register. The menu has some really different options compared to other places! I got the hangover scramble, and my mom got California omelette with their seasonal drink which was the orange cream. I'm not sure why someone was complaining about not having water refills when there is a refill station in the front. lol. The servers are busy cleaning, and helping out the kitchen area. There is outdoor and indoor seating with a great working AC might I add. It's so cute in here with great music. The vibes are 10/10. The parking is the only not so great part but that's Los Angeles for ya. definitely come here. We got here at 11:30 and we were able to be seated right away the room slowly but surely filled up and nobody was having to wait around. This is going to be a negative review based on the restaurant's "concept." The food I ordered was okay, and my dining companion seemed to enjoy his food. However, if you are looking for a relaxing dining experience where you can focus on the food and your company, this is not the place for you. Blu Jam's concept seems to be: no true service to facilitate the dining experience. Sure, they had people to deliver to the table, to clean the table. But - before you get any food, the diner has to download the menu, enter his own order, and then pay by entering his own credit card information. If you want something later, you have to do the entries all over again. It was time consuming and stressful. How hard would it be for a server to enter orders electronically and use a hand held credit card machine to take payment? I understand the high cost of doing business these days, but these cost cutting concepts made the dining experience unenjoyable. Orders were staggered due to difficulties in getting orders and payment made via phones, which was another huge negative. The concept of tipping more than 10-15% when we did all the work to order and pay for the meal was kind of insulting as well. Maybe we are expected to adapt and bend to the concept, but next time I will go elsewhere. Truly hope management can reevaluate this lack of regard for the diners. read more
