I love this place! Such great food! The wait is always so long so if you can definitely try to get on the wait list through Yelp. It was the girlfriends first time so I wanted to take her. We were about 49 tables ahead of us but somehow was already about to be next so an hr wait turned to a 20 minute wait. They have great variety of food options and also serve alcohol. What I decided to eat was the Rancheros and my gf got the salmon hash. Also we had to get their french toast. If you check in you also get a free ginger shot! It took some time for our food to come because of how busy it was, but it was definitely worth the wait. The portions are pretty big so you are going to get your bang for your buck. With not getting too detailed but everything had great flavor! Potatoes were nice and soft and crisp. Eggs were nice and runny. Nothing overpowered the other! They also provide you ketchup and their own habanero hot sauce which was actually really good! The french toast was amazing too! Really the best place to get it! The bread was nice and soft and the edges had a great crunch. I decided to try this place out after years of passing it by. And I see why I did. This LA location seemed popular but it was a heavy tourist crowd. Location is beautiful. Gentrification has treated DTLA very kindly and this place proves it. Nestled in an old building the atmosphere is very cool. Lighting and street art everywhere give it a true hipster flannel beard feel. But lovely none the less. Waited about 30 minutes to be sat. Not too bad but use yelp to check in and save some time. My oldest offspring had the Kamillas breakfast. Some sort of Mac and cheese breakfast mashup. Gave it a 2/5. Very dry. Seems old and just reheated. I had the Norwegian Benedict. Ummm it was ok. lol was good but the hollandaise sauce lacked flavor. Eggs over cooked so the yolk wasn't runny. Gave this one a 2/5 also. The youngest had some kids breakfast. The churro french toast is amazing! It is so delicious and sweet and there is a perfect crunch to it while the inside is still like a soft cloud. The eggs Benedict are also very good with the potatoes. The reason for the four stars is the hot beverage I ordered. Basically, after you are seated, you scan the QR code, order via your phone and then your food is dropped off to you. No one really checks on you, which I wasn't a huge fan of. Prime example - going through an entire checkout process on the site just to order another mimosa was kind of exhausting?? The FOOD: - Crunchy French Toast: Kind of amazing! I appreciate the fact that this dish isn't overly sweet and has delightful, crunchy, cornflake shell that is topped with fruit and sweet drizzle. - Steak Hash: Though beautifully presented, it was ultimately bland.. The circular bed of steaks/potatoes needed salt and TLC. A plus - the poached eggs resting on top were cooked to perfection. First time having brunch in la! I will say, this place reminds me of the brunch places in sf. First off, the ambiance of this place is great. Big windows, all tables already had the lemon/cilantro infused water, great background music. Parking is free if you find neighborhood parking. Food wise, we ordered the quesadilla and the crunchy French toast. The quesadilla order was quite big; it came with scrambled eggs, spinach, and cheese and cut into four slices which made it easy to share. The crunchy French toast was delicious! It came with a side of creamy frosting. What would make it better is if it had more sweetness to it though. Price wise, it was a bit expensive (about 15-16 per entree). There are a decent number of tables to accommodate parties of 2 and 4. Tried the crunchy french everyone talks about. It's really good! Once inside, A hostess seated us, gave us water, and explained the process to us. Basically, at this point in time, you order and pay on your phone. Then, they bring your food out to your table. As another review mentioned, this is kind of difficult, because it makes it hard to get the things you need such as salt, pepper, silverware, etc. My husband had the crunchy French toast, which is one of the things it seems that they are known for. They make you aware right as you sit down, that syrup is not available. Instead it served with a vanilla cream sauce. It was pretty good. I had the Chilaquiles, they were very good. Our first time to try this place...and it happened to be on my Birthday. I utilized Yelp's reservation system, I checked in once we've arrived at the location. Once we were seated, instructions were given on how to order our food thru their Aloha system. For a first time user, it's kind of confusing & at the same time their system 'hanged' 2x & had to restart the app before we finally were able to place our orders. Another thing that I don't like about this system was...it will ask you to add your tip with your payment (way before you can receive your order). I believe in service first then the tip, as the type of service that you get will warrant that tip. Food wise.... All items (Salmon Hash & Crunchy French Toast) that we've ordered were all good! Kudos to the chef! Definitely hands down! I will definitely go back for the French toast. The food might be acceptable, but the service, price, and wait-time is simply unacceptable. My partner and I were shown to a table where the noise-level was averaging 82dB! I couldn't hear myself think. Very poor welcome from the staff who mumbled incoherently. We put in an order for two breakfast items, three side orders, one orange juice and two coffees (Latte and Cappuccino). Over 20 minutes later my Latte arrived. It took so long for the rest to arrive that I gave my partner my coffee. Finally, only part of the breakfast arrived, but no 2nd coffee and not complete. It was 40 minutes before everything came. Won't be coming back. The wait was long (both pre-seating and to get the food), service was subpar, food looks good but is very mid. Plus it's in Downtown where the cheapest place to park is $10, and they use a takeout-type system where to you scan a QR code to pay (including the tip) BEFORE you get your food. Don't let the crowd fool you. Nowadays, a lot of places have been hyped up and are overcrowded "must try" spots because of social media (it's me!) This is one of those. The Food: Matcha Latte with Almond Milk: delicious! I got that 15 minutes before my food, so couldn't enjoy with. The "must try" crunchy French toast looks good, but there is barely any flavor there. They give you some sort of little milk sauce to pour on top; not good. Makes for a beautiful photo though! Norwegian Eggs Benedict: the poach on the egg is perfect, but you're left wanting more due to the hollandaise. I got it with the mixed greens, but I'd recommend you get the potatoes so you can at least put on some hot sauce or ketchup. The Service: Granted, I went on a Sunday afternoon. Checked in at 12:05pm, seated at 12:58pm. Completed my order at 1:05pm. Got the latte at 1:17pm. Asked a waitress (not the person who seated me; never saw her again the rest of the time) to check on my order at 1:30pm, had someone bring me a different order at 1:35pm, and the waitress who went to check informed him that wasn't my order (he did apologize before walking off). He dropped off my correct order 1:37pm without a word or a glance. Servers kept bringing wrong orders to tables around me, including a couple next to me who'd already finished their meal. They had a little dog with them on their lap; the dog growled and barked at the server who came last with the order they again said wasn't theirs. So in nearly 20 years of living in LA, amazingly, I'd never made it to Blu Jam until today. But I wanted to shake up my brunch routine, so I put my name on the waiting list (thanks, Yelp!) in advance and walked up from my parking spot near Little Tokyo. When I arrived, it was bustling, with lots of people waiting. I waited a few more minutes (definitely under 10 minutes once I arrived), and then one of the welcoming hosts seated me. Having never been before, he advised me to get the Crunchy French Toast (as did a friend), which I did. Before it arrived, however, I enjoyed a free ginger shot, courtesy of my Yelp check-in (thanks again, Yelp!). It was bracing in a tasty way, spiked with what was probably (based on the rim of the glass) cayenne. Next came the French toast. I think I got mine a little quicker than usual--the runner accidentally brought me someone else's--but I didn't mind. :-) The Crunchy French Toast does indeed have a nice crunch to it, and it's relatively light, garnished with berries and accompanied by a vanilla cream and a trace of powdered sugar. The whole thing might be a little lighter than the French toast norm, and it was very good. Not as good as some others that I've had (Karen Hatfield and June Kasama, I'm looking at you), but still a very good dish. Service is friendly and efficient, and it's a pleasant (if frenetic) environment within the Spring Arcade. Prices are fair for the portions you get. The service is always pleasant and the ambience is always chill. Unfortunately, this food quality has declined exponentially. Today, I ordered the Blu Jam benedict and the eggs were literally boiled so hard the yolk was chalky. The hollandaise which I asked for on the side looks like some sort of thick creamed butter. The matcha latte was extremely watered down and the crispy french toast was served with what looks like old, mushy strawberries. The food was so bad that I am embarrassed I invited a friend to come here with me. I wouldn't be outraged at the prices if the food was good, BUT THE FOOD IS SO TERRIBLE! I came to this location 7/21 before heading out to the Dodgers game! So I had this place bookmarked for a while and finally got to try it out. I was driving from Orange County so my friend and I did the virtual check in thru Yelp so when we showed up at around 12 we were seated right away (Thanks Yelp!). Blue Jam Cafe is located in the Spring Arcade Building where there are other food spots. There are plenty of lots to park in. Some may be cheaper than others it just depends. I parked in a small lot down the street because the bigger lots seemed a little compacted and I was afraid of door dings/damage from so many cars driving in and out. The lot I was in I believe was called Joes Lot on Spring Street and parking was $13 do. There were maybe about 10 total spots in that lot. OK SO! Now for the food. I had already checked out the menu before I got here so I had an idea of what I wanted. I got the Crunchy French Toast and my friend got the California Omelette. Our waiter was super nice, and provided us with water with lemon and mint. I also ordered a Mother Earth "Honcho Hefe" to sip on. Honestly, the French toast was super amazing and I wish I could recreate this at home and the vanilla bean sauce is super tasty. I did ask for a side of syrup as well to douse my toast in. This is def a must try, at least if you can get it and share with your table that could be a good option too! Bathrooms are located across from the cafe but you do have to have proof that you are a customer at one of the spots by showing your receipt to security. After looking at reviews and pictures on yelp, some friends and I decided to go here for brunch. We parked at the outdoor public parking lot on Spring St. It costs money to park (I don't remember how much, a friend paid) there but its right next to the entrance. When you get to Blu Jam, you join the wait list they have on a little tablet. After signing up you will get a text once your table is ready. You can have the option to sit inside or outside, but the outside is still inside the building so both are good. Once you are seated you can scan the QR code and order and pay for your food. I got the iced chai tea latte. It was super good! A little heavy on the ice but the flavor was great. I had seen a lot of people recommended the crunchy french toast so of course I had to get it for us to share. Eating it fresh is the best, the crunch just adds a little something to it. For my actual meal, I was stuck between the Blu Jam Benedict and the Chilaquiles but after asking for a recommendation from the waitress I went with the chilaquiles. I loved this! I don't understand the hype about the food here based on other reviews. We got the crunchy French toast, the chilaquiles, lattes, and the BLT, and all of it was lackluster, dry, and flavorless. Specifically, I like a moist French toast and this was barely soaked in the right ingredients to boot. The service was shite. Not only was it not clear that we had to order via phone but also the waitress came to give us water and said she'd be back to take our order. I went into the cafe after waiting another 25 minutes to ask about when she'd take our order, and she said "oh, I misspoke. I meant I'd come back to deliver your order." Well, that's misleading. Plus, it took forever for us to finally get our food once we placed the order--another good 20 minutes--and it was not busy at 11 am. I also had to go in and ask for more water! Lastly, the ambiance. Well, it's not this place's fault they're nestled in the middle of the homelessness issue plaguing downtown, but it's worth noting that that's part of the experience you'll get when you visit. What was worse about our visit was the AC units drafting up the place and wafting in the stench of the street aromas yonder and it permeating around us as we ate. For thirty minutes we stood in line waiting to be seated, telling ourselves it was going to be worth it because this place gets phenomenal reviews, the food pictures look amazing, plus we're starving. Instead of blabbing your order to a server, everything is ordered and paid for through their website. I actually like this convenience. This way there is no worry if your order ever made it to the kitchen, and there is no miscommunication from customer to server to kitchen. Breakfast came out pretty fast, maybe ten minutes after ordering. Although the food tasted pretty good, I wasn't as blown away as others have been. The food definitely tasted more fresh and possibly healthier than the alternatives, but it also unfortunately lacked in flavor, and in the case of the french toast, there was also an issue with dryness. The minor hiccup aside, the french toast was beautifully presented. I loved the addition of diced strawberries and whole blueberries which were sprinkled on top. I was also a fan of the vanilla bean sauce served on the side. I ordered a breakfast burger, which was cooked the way I wanted. The sunny side up egg broke open as soon as the plate was set down, the river of yolk falling down the side of the burger was a beautiful sight. DISAPPOINTING and No customer service! Blu Jam Cafe was one of my most favorite breakfast spots in Downtown L.A., but not anymore. What I love about this restaurant aside from the amazing food was the customer service and attention to detail . The food was amazing, but the customer service is no longer existent. Before you're greeted with a waiter, suggesting popular items, checking in if you need anything once food has been delivered, like condiments, water, refill of coffee. Now you sit yourself down, down load the ordering app, order yourself and wait for someone to bring the food. No one checks in to ask if you need anything and not many employees are available to get help. Once my food arrived we needed ketchup, and the correct creamer for my order, but no was around to give service. So I had to go to the front counter to get them. In addition when we needed to go boxes I was directed to get it myself in wall station. This business model makes sense during the peak of COVID but not today. Blu Jam Cafe is no longer a dine in restaurant, it's an elaborated drive through fast food chain. Changing their business model like this made our experience non existent. No contact with anyone, lack of support or guidance including downloading the app or ordering food, and no one asking you if you need anything extra like water, to go boxes, or condiments. If you want to have good food and a better experience, order your food to go, you'll get better service at home. Clearly no customer service and it's a shame. read more

Dining during covid, this actually felt nice that they had seating all throughout the walkway - with open area (this is a late post, btw). That dish was a combination of toast, jam, and a ham/over easy egg dish that was an amazing combination. I love any sort of savory/sweet combination. The power house, on the other hand, was light and filling. It's a fresh and healthy alternative - the tomatoes were so fresh and the chicken was a hearty amount provided. But of course, the crunchy French toast is AMAZING. We had even asked for some honey (for our coffee) and added that to the French toast - SO GOOD.
