I have been twice in the last few weeks. The first time for lunch and the second time for breakfast. Both times the service was great and the restaurant is clean. The first time I had the meat loaf and the portion was good as well as the taste. My husband had the chicken fried steak and it was okay not the best. Today he had pancakes, eggs, hash browns and ham. Ham didn't taste good so he exchanged it for bacon which was hard to chew. I ordered biscuits with sausage gravy. To say it was cold is an understatement. I asked for them to heat it and they brought me a new plate which was hot but the gravy had no flavor. I was very disappointed. I feel the portions are good but the taste of the food is mediocre especially for the price and because they are supposedly known for their breakfast and specialty items. This place is the absolute best place to get comfort food! My husband gets the chicken friend steak every time and is never disappointed and I get different plates each time. This time I did get Ana's Fancy French Toast and all I have to say is I would have licked my plate to get every drop of that mascarpone sauce if it would have been appropriate and everyone wouldn't stare at me!! First Red Flag the hostess, make sure you are white and dressed as if your going on an interview to get a welcoming hello! Second red flag the servers welcoming line " It's my birthday". Thel third flag, getting enticed with a hot grilled biscuit for it to never come even after reminding her a second time. Forth red flag getting the Meatloaf plate served to me then informing me they did not have Mac and cheese. Not only feeling disappointed having the expeditor serve mac and cheese to a table beside me was mind blowing to say the least. Fortunately, I got there before the wait time exploded. I was seated immediately and was quickly brought coffee and water. I ordered the chicken fried steak and a biscuit with the plate because both received rave reviews. Well, the chicken fried steak seemed like it came pre-breaded from a food service company. The breading fell away like a shell, and the tough meat underneath was very much smaller than it looked when it arrived. Then there was the biscuit. Large yes, but the choice of jams/jellies to put on it consisted of the cheapest kinds you might find at a greasy spoon diner. Then the coffee was never hot, only very lukewarm. I hate to say it, but for a "southern breakfast", Cracker Barrel is both cheaper and better. read more

Waitress was very attentive from the moment she greeted us. We decided to start with fried green tomatoes. They were outstanding. Nicely breaded and you could tell they were just cooked. Really enjoyed them. We decided to split the chicken fried steak, with mashed potatoes and fried okra. The CFS was of a decent size and the gravy (cream) was good. The CFS was good, just not great. Came back 1 week later on a weekday and had their chicken fried steak which was great the first time we were here but this time had large pieces of batter without any meat so consistency is an issue. Fried green tomatoes were ok. We also sat in the room with cloth back benches which were old and dirty looking. Would recommend removing those cloth backs from the benches. read more
