You can also specify how spicy you want your meat to be. For a $1.50 more you can add a black, green, milk, or boba milk tea to your meal. Even after this phase will have been over, I will continue to support this local biz because they are true to their words and what they bring to us, foodies. This place is super efficient, friendly and clean. The location is easy to find: it's inside the 99-Cent Store plaza here in Arcadia and across from East West Bank, you can't miss it. It's a hot day today, and I was craving for something cold. I asked the cashier to give me some recommendation of popular drinks. She recommended watermelon slushy. I ordered that. Taste of watermelon was weak. There were cubes of ice that was not completely blended. The grass jelly was very icy as well. It would be better if more watermelon and less ice was blended in this drink. Keep up the good work as there is room for improvement. read more

The first time we came here we just got popcorn chicken to go, and it was just average. We wanted it to be spicy, and the spiciness was lighter than we would've liked. There were many open tables with outlets inside the place though, which seemed promising the next time we needed a place to study. Unfortunately the second time around was very disappointing. We still ordered popcorn chicken which was still average, but we decided to get some drinks as well. I got a pistachio latte at regular sweetness, and my girlfriend had the matcha milk tea less sweet. The matcha milk tea was overly sweet and only soy milk with no matcha taste at all, to the point that we initially thought it must be the wrong order. It was definitely sweeter than pistachio latte which was at full sweetness. However when brought to the server's attention, there was no mix up, this was apparently how the match milk tea was supposed to be. My pistachio latte had a little pistachio taste, and no latte/coffee taste at all either. To top it off, it was difficult to focus and study there because the atmosphere was a lot louder than anticipated, and we ended up leaving after 15 minutes of studying. I love this TapEx location. Its conveniently located off Duarte and shares the parking with the 99¢ Store along with other retailers. The food & drinks are reasonably priced & taste pretty good. Their boba drinks are solid. When I'm in the area and want a quick snack or meal, I always think of TapEx even though there are so many restaurants in this area. I think the quick service, delicious food and affordable prices always bring me back. Of course, when I have specific cravings, I'll go to the other restaurants too. Pork Chop Rice Plate - comes with steamed white rice, some flavored ground beef & sauce over the rice, veggies, tea flavored egg and a regular size green or black tea - this is one of my go tos. We usually share this and get a couple of extra sides. Hainan Chicken Rice Plate - very traditional chicken broth flavored sticky rice with poached chicken with ginger and chili sauces - really good flavors, but the portion is a bit smaller than the other plates. Japanese BBQ Chicken Plate - same sides as the pork chop plate - the Japanese chicken is really good with a savory sauce. Fried Dumplings - they make this really good here! Lots of great flavor Crispy Chicken = Popcorn Chicken - really delicious! Prob my fave popcorn chicken spot. Great portions too. It is also available as a plate or snack. First time at this location as I've only ever been to the Alhambra location -- I went on a weekday afternoon so it was very quiet and chill but I can imagine it being filled with local high school students later in the day. It's located in a plaza with a bunch of other small businesses so parking is plentiful. There's indoor seating but it's pretty limited. I called in for my order, which was just 2 hokkaido milk teas as I remember this place has really hokkaido milk teas! I was afraid it would disappoint because sometimes only specific locations have better quality of food and service but the hokkaido milk teas tasted as good as I remembered! It was a very quick pick up as they had my drinks ready for me already. They packaged in it a plastic bag that has two cup slots so that was helpful for my drive home and there was no spill risk! I remember their snacks being tasty too but I didn't get to try this time, so I'm leaving 4 stars specifically for the drinks and service! Decent quick Taiwanese snacks and meals up for grabs! From popcorn chicken to minced pork stew, the flavors come pretty close in comparison to a restaurant. The boba milk tea is a solid as well, with a brewed flavor and not too diluted down (honey boba would be better if served warm and fresh) My experience has primarily been phone orders, in which my to-go has always been ready by my prompted time. I come here every week to study on my day off and it's so cute inside and every table is spaced out for social distancing :) My favorite drink is the lychee yogurt drink and their popcorn chicken is very crispy and delicious! Came here to get a drink while I wanted for food order I place across the street to be ready. Came to a surprise the tea here is pretty good. I order Lavender milk tea and Osmanthus Oolong milk tea. I have to say the oolong was my favorite. The tea taste was strong not water down. Lavender was good but got too sweet at the end. With all of these new hip and cool tea places, chains like Tapioca Express may not be as heavily populated. But to be honest, I am starting to get a little tired of the trendy tea places (I'm just too old) and just wanted a classic almond milk tea. Seems like a lot of tea houses do not offer them, when I consider that drink to be a classic. Anyways, my husband suggested we come to this place, located inside the same plaza as 99 Cent Store and Golden Teriyaki. This Tapioca Express has dog friendly outdoor seating by the way, in case you wish to dine here with your 4 legged dog. There are also some tables inside, but a small place. After we looked over the menu board, we ended up getting: (Hot) Almond Milk Tea, $3.10 prior to tax- I ordered this to be made with 50% sweetener. This drink was made perfectly, smooth and not gritty at the bottom. Great drink, especially for the price (why can't all tea houses be back around this price range? Darn hipsters....). (Large) Strawberry Milk Tea, $3.35 prior to tax- My husband ordered this drink and requested it to also be made with 50% sweetener. He liked his drink and thought it was creamy but not too sweet. -------------------------------- (Total= $7.06 after tax) This place is CASH ONLY by the way (I suppose this is a contributing factor to why the prices are a little lower?). The employees inside were friendly (something I wasn't expecting from a tea house). Wait time for our drinks was not too long. The unisex restroom was clean upon this visit. I haven't really gone to a tap ex since high school, but we were around the area and I wanted the crispy buns ! Their prices are still cheaper than the typical boba places. We placed a phone order and picked it up within 5-10 mins. We had the crispy chicken, fried tofu and crispy buns. It was all delicious! I've underestimated tapex. Comparing to every other tapex I've visited around the SGV, they were pretty much always on the low end/ last resort type of boba establishment that I'd never crave for. That's why I haven't been to one in YEARSSS, but my bf and his friend wanted to get some boba and this was the only one near me that was open until late (midnight to be exact.. and on a weekday!). We ordered an almond milk tea for my bf and jasmine milk tea with mini boba for myself. My friend got some delicious, just-came-out-of-the-fryer squid balls. We used our Yelp check-In and upgraded our drinks to a large (the Yelp check-in only applies for AFTER 8PM)! Considering their inexpensive prices, I was so impressed with how much they've improved! You get more than what you actually pay for and that is a hugeee plus! The quality of the food and even their drinks have drastically changed. AND I had fresh boba balls at 10PM! Their drinks used to be inconsistent and their boba balls used taste really old, stale, and chewy (not in a good way). I'm so glad I gave tapex another shot. Tapioca Express! This was the OG spot for me as far as boba drinks go. It was many years ago when I was introduced to bubble tea drinks. I always like the almond flavors and it's only at Tapioca Express where I feel they make the best ones. The call it almond snow bubble. It's so good and tasty. I get mine with boba, of course and opt for the larger size. I can't get enough. It's not simply like an almond smoothie. It's more light and airy in texture. But the almond flavor is delish. It's my absolute favorite. Almond snow bubbles are the best. Service was friendly & efficient. Only negative is that they do not take credit cards. CASH RULES. But I did see that they had an atm machine by the restroom... The dining area is not very big. Maybe 4-5 small tables. So happy to find this boba cafe with some outdoor seating in my home town! We ordered the white peach oolong tea with light sugar and it was refreshing and delicious. Of course I had to have a side of spicy fries to go with my drink. I prefer Wushiland's mini boba over the one they serve here. The mini boba here is too small to chew so I will opt for their regular tapioca next time. Sweet Potato Fries (5/5) - Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. Probably the best in the area. Overall, Tap really exceeded my expectations. I was so shocked to see that Tapioca Express had rebranded to Bon Appetea, but I am also soooo delighted that this location is now so much more closer to me than the Alhambra one. My favorite go-to drinks are either the Strawberry Yogurt or the Blended Strawberry Yogurt. There's just a wonderful tarty taste with both drinks, which I really love. I ordered their popcorn chicken once before, and it was a decent portion size that was seasoned pretty well. This place is definitely worth trying of you are around the Arcadia area! read more

Ok so this was my go to spot for the popcorn chicken. I probably get it twice a week at least but was sorely disappointed today. The basil in the popcorn Chicken is what gives it the extra level of flavor for me but the last time I got 2 orders of it it had no basil at all in either. Disappointed of course. When I call ahead to order it again I mention it to the guy of the phone and he said that they probably ran out which is understandable but the least the could have done is told me when I picked it up and offered some kind of apology. Anyways this time I make sure I ask for extra and the guy says ok. I go to pick it up and there's an extra charge for extra basil. I tell the cashier last time I didn't get any and again she says yeah we probably ran out. Ok so no apology, no advance notice that you ran out and again no notice that extra basil had an extra cost. I'm fine with paying extra but a little transparency would be great. Just poor customer service which means the young people who work here are trained poorly. THE YUM & DRANKS::: 3.5 rounded down mainly because mediocre decor and cash only womb womp. I've had the avocado snow bubble here and I loved it! It was made with fresh avocado and I had it with boba. I was sad that they ran out of it the second time I went though. I tried the honeydew snow bubble and I just didn't enjoy it as much so personally, I prefer the avocado. I've tried the sausage over rice combo (comes with iced tea) and it was pretty decent for the price and enough to share between two people for a light brunch! I'd say the food here is decent for the pricing, and the drinks are acceptable. =] THE VERDICT::: Seating can be limited, as it's a pretty small place. It's a tad bit outdated, and I feel that they would benefit from a makeover. Overall, it's a reliable place if you're passing by! There are usually seats open before or around noon and even a couple outlets, but I wouldn't rely on coming here for studying. I love this chain and this location. There are never any good deals for food and lately, they've been hiring new people, so my drink orders are getting messed up! Once, I ordered a large flavored green tea with boba, and the girl said "large boba right?" and I was like, "um, sure?", so she charged me extra 50 cents because she thought I wanted 2x the amount of boba. -_- If I wanted extra boba, I would've said "extra boba". sigh. Another time, I got half boba/half pudding, so it's technically still one item. I got charged for two items. If it's half boba/half pudding, they should've charged it under "mixed boba". These entry level young'ns need training/criticism, or their supervisors (that are always standing there but aren't saying anything) need to listen and catch these mistakes.. How will they learn? The lesson here is to at least learn to calculate the total beforehand to prevent this. haha read more
