The location of this place kinda sucks so there aren't many people in there. It's not a place to go to be seen or people watch. I love these 'real KFC's... Korean Fried Chicken! There are several chains, one of which is Bon Chon. The chicken is great... the chicken comes out hot and crispy, lightly battered and fried, then hand glazed with either soy-garlic sauce or hot sauce. I prefer the soy-garlic sauce, but to each his own... Folks, the reason why it takes so long (15-20 mins) for the chicken to come out is that everything is made to order and hand-glazed. This is not your fast food chicken joint, i.e., the "other" KFC. The chicken isn't pre-made and sitting under heat lamps. Having said that, the chicken wasn't the best I've had, but it was still pretty good. The batter was a bit too heavy for this style of fried chicken. We also tried other dishes here... the ttukbokgi (spicy rice cakes) was very unconventional and served in a bowl and topped with cheese(!)--not what I was expecting and it was just okay. I placed an order online 1 minute ago for a family meal with coleslaw and French fries and I called to change it to both French fries instead and the guy that answered the phone said no he couldn't change it. I tried Bon Chon Chicken for the first time with a friend of mine from Queens. It was good and spicy and they actually had beer other than Hite/OB/Coors which is kinda nice for a Korean place. Actually, they had good old Blue Moon beer (yeah, yeah I know it's brewed by Coors). I can't say it is better than say Baden Baden "ttong dalk" but that it is just different. I could not believe this table next to us left all the tasty and spicy SKIN! WTF! I enjoyed the chicken though, but it was definitely not cheap for what you get. I mean, it's fried chicken. Sure, it may be a chain restaurant AND a hole in the wall, but just thinking about their soy garlic chicken makes my mouth water. Forget ordering anything else. My friends and I were craving some Korean chicken wings after a little show we went to, so we decided to try out bon chon, which was no regret. We haven't eaten all day so we were starving, so we dug into the calamari (sorry I couldn't wait to take the picture), which was really good and fresh. It wasn't too heavy in batter that you couldn't taste the calamari, and the sauces that came with it made it all that much better. We also ordered a combo of wings AND MAN ARE THOSE WINGS FAT! They had so much meat on it with a really nice crisp taste on the outside. THESE WINGS ARE A MUST IF YOU COME IN. The fries, though weren't as good as we expected, but that's probably because they were soggy when served. We went at 11 and it says they closed at 1 but they kept rushing us out and seemed very unhappy when we walked in. This place was great! I actually liked this place more than Kyochon. We came here late last Saturday because I wanted to try it remembering it was Zagat rated. We were seated right away and it had a nice vibe when we came in. They gave us this free coleslaw thing which I didn't like because the dressing did not look appetizing to me. There are only 2 flavors for the chicken from what I could see so if you're looking for a selection you might be disappointed but the soy garlic and spicy flavors are delicious. We got the boneless wings, spicy pot stickers, and some German beer of course and we were happy with everything. They really flavored the chicken and pot stickers well so I think we will be coming back to get more chicken or try something else. The chicken wings here are really delicious. My friend and I ordered medium wings, half soy garlic and half hot, with an order of cheese tteokbokki. I don't remember how many wings there was, but the wings were fairly large and it was enough to fill us up. The cheese tteokbokki had rice cakes, fish cake, and cabbage with cheese on top. I wish there was more fish cake because those tasted really good. My fiance & I were jonesing for a good lunch. We couldn't decide if we wanted to get pizza or some Bon Chon. Finally we decided to just get a slice each and get some wings to go with it. Great idea! We ordered the combination of spicy wings. I always recommend calling ahead, since for some reason, every Korean chicken place takes forever to fry up their wings. We got in our car, picked up the pizza, drove down the block to Bon Chon and were back at home in a jiffy. The chicken was good. A little sweet, a little tangy, not really spicy by my estimation, but I love spicy food, so please take that into note. Much better than the West Coast locations which I've tried (after I tried the East Coast versions). The wings were done just right. The side salad and daikon were very nice to have next to the wings. If you're not as used to spicy stuff as me, you can have a bite or two of those to cleanse the pallet and keep on munching. The only reason I don't rate this place higher is because of the fact that a tiny box of wings will cost you $12...which is ridiculous to me. Other than that, its a very good choice if you want some Korean chicken wings. My only complaint is the wait time it took over half an hour for the food to come out. Went here for take out when we saw it on Bell and ordered in restaurant. It's a bit dinghy inside with a few tables on the right separated by very thin wooden walls(seats are comfortable) but the only thing that would keep me from eating here is the music they play. I was a bit worried when I looked at the menu and saw things like mozzarella sticks but I guess that's to cater to the less adventurous crowd? nice assortments of beer and shoju to go with the article on the wall saying that in Korea, fried chicken is a bar snack rather than a meal and I can see it. Onto the food! We got a soygarlic pot stickers, a medium size soy garlic box of chicken breasts and a small size of hot ones for 4 people, including two insanely picky eaters. We, next time we go, will probably get either two mediums or a large and a small. It comes with a coleslaw(this was yummy) and some sort of radish. The soygarlic pot stickers were OK but not amazing (2/5) with a very strong cabbage taste. The soy garlic chicken was by far the favorite of everybody in the house because it was a little sweet and rather yummy(3.5/5) and the "hot" chicken was good but a bit of a forced spice, I didn't feel they really wanted to make the chicken spicy but just added spice as an afterthought(3/5) as it wasn't very flavorful but if you like spice, it'll still be good. Very intense is how I would describe the food at Bon Chon. Got recommended by a few friends and we were throwing caution (and our diets) to the wind, so we figured we'd give this place a try. Although it was decadent and amazing, I cant say I dont regret it lol. They start you off with some slaw-esque cabbage with a ginger dressing. Here you are thinking this is going to be healthy, everything is fine and then bam...your meal arrives in all of its fried glory. Let me start by saying the chicken strips are amazing. The batter they use makes the coating so crunchy and crispy - its amazing. I only tried the mild but everyone else who had the hot said their mouths were on fire. The fries and onion rings were pretty standard - came with a ketchup and honey mustard dipping sauce. The potstickers were delish - we got the soy ones and they were crispy and the filling was very flavorful. Overall, I would say to come here - but very rarely. 3.5 stars I was craving Korean Fried Chicken a few days ago, and as we were going to be in the area, I suggested that my boyfriend and I stop by Bon Chon for lunch. This location looks a bit smaller than the others I've been to (in ktown and flushing), as there are probably only 10 tables here. When we arrived, we were probably one of only 3 tables there, so I'm not sure how busy it can get. My boyfriend and I decided to split the large combo (drums & wings) in the soy garlic (can't handle the spice). The wait was super long. I think we waited about 20 minutes for our food to come out. By then, we were both starving! But, the wings were super delicious, very crisp. Although I can see how it is a little greasy/oily, it didn't feel like it was too much grease. We were both stuffed after splitting the combo, so I think that's a good amount of food. I believe it was around $20 for it, so a little pricey. Easy parking right in front of the restaurant.
