June 21, 2022 3.5 stars rounding up to 4. Had a bit of a wait (20, 25 minutes), so we walked up to the bar and grabbed a few drinks. We checked out the drinks menu online and only found a handful of choices. Wished we'd known there were more to choose from-- there were about three more pages of drinks listed on a menu server brought to the table. I enjoyed my Banana pudding daiquiri! A bit expensive at $9.50, though. Food was OK. Out of the garlic cheese bread, chicken Alfredo, and fries I tried, I enjoyed the cheese bread best. Oh, and the gorgeous sunset! read more

This place was too good. Couldn't recommend it enough. Went with the family and they squeezed us all together (they have an option to get us more tables but we'd rather be all close). A solid 3.5 star review. I love the outdoor ambiance of this restaurant and the fish that you can feed in the back. They have large tables that can accommodate group gatherings and bar top seating. I ordered oysters to start. Honestly I was disappointed. They were very dirty. I tried to wash away the sand and dirt with water, but it didn't help. I'm kind of grossed out just thinking about it. The fish sandwich and fish Reuben are the best items on the menu. The blackened & garlic fish is so flavorful, buttery and flakey. We added fries and extra coleslaw to the order as it does not come with the sandwich. I think they changed their coleslaw because it used to be very good. Their new coleslaw lacks moisture and flavor- literally crunchy bland cabbage. Another disappointing moment. The stuffed mushroom was one portobello cap served with a side of boondocks sauce. I didn't get much seafood from the stuffing- mostly cheese. Definitely overpriced for what it is. I also didn't like the taste of their water either... but they have great pickles! read more

Spent a week in Daytona Beach and found Boondocks. It was about 7:40pm. We checked in and the attendant told us the kitchen was closing at 8pm but we would be fine. We sat at the bar ordered a drink and again was told the kitchen was closing at 8pm. The waitress just made us feel really rushed to get our order in. Sheez. My wife ordered a burger no bun with all the fixings. I had blackened mahi-mahi. The food was the best we had all week. Now I'm an honest and tough reviewer thus knocking off 2 stars. Staff not very friendly except with I believe were some regular customers and the other because we were rushed. I didn't like we were told we were fine then barely sit down and pressed to order. I'd still come back because the food was so good and hopefully the staff has a batter day. read more

We are down for bike week and celebrating an engagement. We weren't asked if we were celebrating so we couldn't brag lol. Our sever/ bar tender was great. We wish the indoor seating had more room, it was raining when we were there so we sat in the bar. Oysters were HUGE and delicious, garlic white wine clams were a must try with the garlic bread as well! Jalapeño poppers come with a spicy jelly sauce, good but HOT. And of course crab legs were worth every second. We split one pound between my fiancé and I and we left with leftovers. Spicy octopus drink was a new try for me, so good. On the way back to Atlanta home, we stopped by to have casual dinner. The environment is excellent, by the river with boats, the only thing is that it's hard to find parking. We ordered Conch Fritters, Conch Chowder, Clams, and Boondocks Fish Sandwich. Conch Fritters were crispy, conch meat was little pieces; clams were small but fresh. This is a great place to enjoy a drink with a nice view and a good lunch. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I love conch fritters but I'm pretty picky. Their fritters were small but full of conch! They were served hot and had the perfect balance of cornmeal and veggies incorporated into the batter. We also tried the conch chowder which was the thickest I have ever had along with the special - a seafood stuffed portobello. My husband ordered the fish Reuben which came with a very generous portion of crispy fish. There were many locals here and the staff seemed to know them all by name. Nice! Also, we watched several children feeding the resident catfish at the dock. There were hundreds of catfish enjoying the attention. I got the fresh Mahi-mahi blackened sandwich and I don't think I've ever had fish that good and the price was so reasonable. My boys loved their basic chicken tenders and the outdoor atmosphere. We happened up on this restaurant after visiting the Ponce inlet Lighthouse and trying to go to a restaurant nearby that was not very welcoming. We kindly left and ended up here where we were well taken care of. The staff were very friendly and so were some of the patrons. We were served very quickly and where we sat was the perfect view of the catfish show. If you put some pellets into the water you will see them coming right and left from out of nowhere. The portion size even for the salad was very big and totally worth the money. The cole slaw that came with the meals was also very good. Murals are some of the most favorite things I like to find when I am visiting a new place and I was not disappointed. read more

My daughter and I went there for the Daytona 500 weekend as it was near where we were staying. We had the best weight staff and bartender ever! We sat at the long table in the bar and met many people from in town, and out of town that were friendly. The bathrooms are clean. Everything we drank, and ate was great. Great spot on the waterway! Covered deck and bar seating. I had the grilled basa fish dinner. It came with slaw and a side, which I chose baked sweet potato. I also got a crab claw because I had to, lol. It was delicious and fresh! Seasoned perfectly! So much so that I never used the butter. The fish was light and flaky. A bit salty, but hit the spot. Had a late lunch here last week. We were able to sit outside right away, but it was quite busy due to the holiday break. They have a large covered dining area and some tables outside where dogs are allowed which is what we chose since we had our pup with us. I ordered the Boondocks fish sandwich blackened and garlic seared at the recommendation of our waitress with a side of fries. Also had the Beach Hippie IPA which came in a can. The sandwich had two large pieces of fish and was cooked perfectly. The fries were a bit soggy but still good. I had some of my sister in-laws onion rings which were very good. She and my wife had a frozen drink, but they said they were on the sugary side. There is an area with benches where we sat and had a post-meal drink while the sun went down. You can also get some fish food from the coin operated machine to feed the swarms of catfish in the river which my nephew and a few other kids enjoyed. The seating is picnic and patio tables effectively outside. The restaurant is on a pier. There are sea birds and catfish to entertain you while you wait for a seat. We started with conch fritters and smoked fish dip. The fritters were okay. The fish dip was amazing. We all got fish sandwiches. I got blackened mahi-mahi. Toni and T both got the fried fish sandwich. The mahi was great really fresh and well seasoned. We finished by sharing key lime pie. Also really good. Service is a team effort. Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Definitely has the "local" vibe, but the food lacked flavor and came out slightly cold. I had the blackened fish platter with yellow rice. It came with coleslaw, which I tried to substitute broccoli for, but wasn't allowed. I paid the additional $2.99 to add the steamed broccoli but it wasn't worth it after tasting it. My wife had the buffalo shrimp. This came out barely warm and the batter was definitely on the soggy side, not crispy like you expect fried shrimp to be. Drink & Beer selection was above average. I love this place, a true Daytona Beach classic!!! I met Richard Petty here on my first trip around 2012, he was super nice signing autographs and taking pictures. I've been many times since.... Crab bites used to be a hit but they changed the menu and I didn't see those this time. I enjoyed the tacos (recommended by server). The seafood is standard fare, good but not spectacular, it is overpriced for the area - there are amazing views however (go at sunset!), so I guess you are paying for that! And a cup of the conch chowder....double yum!! We both had grilled fish and shrimp with yellow rice. It came with cole slaw, which my husband loved ( I don't care for cole slaw, so I skipped that...he ate mine, lol). The fish and the shrimp were stupid good. So fresh and well prepared. The worst place you could possibly eat on your vacation While other restaurants on the beach serve up great local seafood this place decided to serve us frozen shrimp. The baked potato was so hard you could break a car window with it. Very old tasting and dry like it had been cooked from the morning The hush puppies I felt they tried to serve up something made in house but fell short because they were underdone The wait staff was odd I was waited on by 4 people during our visit but never once while I was eating.
