When my office moved downtown recently, we were discussing the decent places to eat in the area (based on our experiences with previous jobs located downtown). Although it's a bit far from my office, Boston Kebab House was on the list, so I stopped in today while on another errand. I was in a hurry so just got a falafel wrap -- my go-to sandwich because it's always vegan by default -- which was good. I thought it was a bit pricey but perhaps $7.25 is what sandwiches cost these days. They also have a salad and hot entree bar. I didn't see the price but it looked better than most downtown salad bars. read more

Chicken kofte kabab = oh-so-tender flavourful chicken kabab heaven. Yum. Also like the chicken shish kabab. I would order the plates instead of the sandwiches, because the pita on the sandwiches is never wrapped well enough to hold everything in them. EDIT: Their sandwiches can now be ordered with homemade Turkish bread (the same bread they serve as a free appetizer if you eat in) - it's very fresh and slightly salted, I highly recommend it! If you only eat Halal, you have to be careful to specifically ask for your chicken to be Halal and it usually takes about 5-10 minutes longer which can be a pain if you're just picking up a sandwich for lunch so consider calling in advance for take-out. (They don't do the chicken kofte kabab in halal, which is really sad because it was so good!). The lamb/beef is always halal, though. The seating area downstairs is pretty nice + they bring you this nice bread + yogurt sauce free if you eat in. And they have FREE wireless! Also good to know: It's only open for lunch on weekdays and it's CLOSED Sunday. read more

I love this place, I really do, but don't ever order something from their grill. Their salad bar is great - extensive selection, all the veggies you want, fresh, and CHEAP. The line here can get long around peak lunch hour (12-1) but is usually short before or after that time. They also have a nice selection of hot foods by the pound. I've ordered from their grill a couple of times because they have a nice selection and prices are decent. However, it takes them FOREVER to do anything at the grill, even at odd hours when no one else is there. I went here around 3 one day and there was no one in there, I ordered a veggie burger, and waited. And waited. Someone came in after me, ordered a wrap, got their food, and left. And I waited. So I suck at salad bars. My eyes are always bigger and ostensibly more clever than my stomach ("of COURSE those [disparate foodstuffs] will taste good mushed together when I dive back into this overflowing take-out tray [5 hours and/or whenever I've digested this pound of food that's HEALTHY, cuz it's SALAD!] later"). Of course, they never taste good mushed together later in the day. That's just plain physics. The Boston Kebab House is not my sandwich go-to, and not my sit down go-to, and is not a place I will enjoy waiting in line at for an hour, snaked around Liberty Square. The SALAD BAR at the Boston Kebab House, however, is a gift straight from God. It never has a line, and is stuffed to the gills with every Middle Eastern delicacy you could ever want--hummus and baba ganoush and artichoke fritters and tabouli and grapeleaves and cabbage and falafel and bean salads and grilled chicken and eggplant and that amazing red mashed walnut paste--THAT ALL TASTE AMAZING MUSHED TOGETHER FIVE HOURS LATER. Also, I never have to deal with the stress of getting light items. One of my mom's cardinal rules in life is to never get the whole egg at a salad bar. For a prix fixe (just under $10, which is spendy, but worth it), you can fill that bad boy up to the brim and eat for days. read more

Overall the place is OK. The individual falafel's are great in addition to the salads yet the falafel wrap/sandwich is so-so. Today I ordered the falafel sandwich in hopes it would be light and I was intrigued that it came with a side of greek salad. When sitting down and eating I noticed the veggies and sauce/topping in it has pickles mixed in which my stomach was a little upset by. Overall the mix of veggies and sauce were fine but there was so much bread and chopped up pickles in my sandwich I was let-down as everyone at work loves this place. On the bright side three falafel's were in the large sandwich, causing me to eat the three and side greek leaving the rest to waste. Overall the hot bar and salad bar are ideal as I like to pick and choose. Location is prime, near post office square and downtown; definitely beats Falafel Kings falafel's and their minimal amount of seating. Without a doubt, one of my favorite places for lunch in downtown Boston. The food tastes fresh, is more than filling, and has a great balance--for a meat lover, at least. The lines can be misleading! There are actually three sections to the place. You pick up food upstairs. The leftmost line goes to the salad service side. You DO NOT have to wait in this line if you don't want an entree salad. Go to the right and either order under the huge menu board or use the Meze bar to the right. You pick up your order upstairs between the salad service and the registers. Seating is downstairs. Everything is basically served in Styrofoam lunch containers. The donor, kofte, and Boston kebab plates are usually what I go for, and while they're not necessarily the best value around, pound-for-pound, they won't leave you disappointed. If you're not hungry enough, I'd recommend going for a smaller item. Plates go for around $7-$10, gyros/wraps for around $7, salads for around $5-$6, and the Meze is around $7/lb. read more

You might not expect it, but the Kabab House is perhaps your best carry out option for lunch in the Financial District. The kababs are excellent, great soup selections, and you can order from the grill or self serve at a buffet. Plus, the service is good (they work hard to get you in and out fast). And, for a flat charge the Kabab House will also make you a custom salad, with your choice of greens, two proteins (I like the chicken kabab and hard boiled egg), and any (or all!) all the vast variety if veggies they carry. Unlike other places, no extra charge for dozens of topping options! It is a high quality meal and a very generous serving. Highly recommended. read more

Seriously, go with a friend, pile all your favorite middle eastern goodies in the big plastic container, split the $10 bill, go downstairs and scarf yourself silly! Last time I came here I left with a very full belly and no buyer's remorse (very rare for this part of town). Not a bad deal! If you're looking for some serious kebably goodness, complete with hairy-chested lebanese men (and women...?), stop what you're doing and hop, skip, and/or jump to Boston Kebab House. This place is the real deal. I'm not into stuffed grape leaves or heaping plates of miscellaneous Mediterranean goop, but man oh man I am always satisfied with the food here. People rave about the salads and I'm definitely a believer. All their plates have hefty portions and I've never spent more than $10 here. A decent value for the Financial District. The place was busy when I stopped in for lunch, but the staff was super efficient and kept the line moving and got the food out quickly. I ordered the Boston Kebab Special: combination of Doner Kebab, Kofte Kebab, and Chicken and Lamb Shish Kebab served wit rice, bulgur, and small salad. The meat was all perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and delicious! The portion size was huge--like 2-3 meals worth of food!! My only complaint was that there was no veggie served with the rice so it was basically meat & rice with some lettuce on the side--not what I was thinking when I said veggies. While there are food trucks and an Italian deli around the corner to tempt me, nothing works. Kebab House it is. Almost all of the time the kofte platter seduces me away from salads. I pass the salad line (that turns down the stairs) and walk up to place my order. Kofte is the guarantee but choosing between the sides isn't as easy. And if you order the hummus or baba ganoush, they give you a serious size portion. Actually, the entire platter size is huge. It's enough for lunch and dinner. I have tried the salad twice. Coming from NYC where a salad with vegetables, one meat and one cheese can easily cost over $10, this is a steal. Solid spot. Some day I'm going to try their hot bar and pickup a dessert or two. I only get the gyro here but you get your choice of yogurt sauce or hummus. It is packed full of goodies: sliced lamb/beef, tomato, onion, red cabbage and lettuce. Delicious. So delicious. OMG I want another one just writing this review! I havent tried the salad bar, but my co-worker loves it. Two choices of a protein, 3 different types of greens (mix, mesclun and another one) and as many salad toppings you want. There is always a line for the salad bar but it moves very quickly! Super reasonable prices (my total lunch was $8.80...gyro and a can of soda) and you get a $1 coupon on the bottom of every receipt. The sitting area gets filled quickly so you may want to get there early. LOVE THIS PLACE. Turkish style kabobs are almost just as good as Greek style kabobs. read more

Nice place - clean and the salad-bar type thing looks awesome. I ordered a chicken ceasar wrap and ate downstairs. The wrap was tasty enough but an utter disaster to eat. It's just loosely wrapped in a pita-style wrapper, then rolled in foil. It threatens to explode on you if you don't use that foil to carefully reveal your sandwich as you eat it. It's very messy. Next time, I'll stick with that salad bar thing - it looked good! read more

I love this place. Their food is really delicious. If you are Turkish- this place is as close as you can get to real Turkish food. The place down the street, Sultan's Kitchen is so "americanized". If you are looking for a real Turkish meal, this is the place to go. They have great selection and their meze bar is full of stuff. Their lunch specials are also very nice, about $10 on average! Dont miss their oven-baked rice pudding for dessert, they make it so well! Sometimes I go there on my mid-afternoon brake just to have that! Even if it's a crazy place for lunch, they are now open for dinner on certain days- I think Fri and Sat. They have waiters and the service is good, nothing like the fast pace lunch crunch. Salad bar hands down one of the best deals in the financial district. For $7.30 with tax, a small salad is easily enough for two meals-- like others have said, choice of two proteins (three if you count falafel, but you need to remember to ask for it), plus unlimited toppings including grape leaves, bean salads, fruits, nuts and all kinds of veggies. I think the large option just gives you more greens. It's not only cheaper than other options around (Sebastians comes to mind), but much tastier, too. The line is out the door at the lunch peak, but I go a little after 1pm and there's rarely a line. I used to be a Mezze bar person (all kinds of varying middle eastern delicacies, as others have mentioned), but their prices went up and overall I think the salad bar is a more consistent bet. Minus one star (really one half) for uneven service and generosity with toppings at the salad bar. read more

The real deal on authentic Greek. I've had Greek at 3 different restaurants in Boston now, and all were lacking flavor til I came here. The selection is AMAZING, huge buffet style with tons of main dish and side options. Also fresh soup and salad picks. I ordered the chicken kabob plate which came with four sides. Highly recommend the tabouleh and grape leaves. Hummus was really good too. The donor kebab wrap was awesome. I also got baklava which was the best I've ever had. Great place for lunch downtown and so happy I discovered it! They have a huge create your own salad section. You pick 2 proteins (one choice being avocado- awesome) and then other veggies, beans, fruits, nuts, dressings, etc. They then toss it for you at the end. Every salad comes with some pita and you have the choice of white or wheat! The only draw back is you feel extrememly rushed. Maybe it's just me but I get super flustered and then end up missing all the good stuff i wanted to put in my salad!! Anyways, awesome place to go for a salad. I wanted a salad for lunch. Not a punk-ass salad, but a serious, throw a little bit of everything in there salad. Sick of paying close to $8 at Sebastian's, I wandered down to Boston Kebab House after getting a couple thumbs up from co-workers. The line and ingredients bar was a little intimidating, but in Boston that's usually the sign of a well-run operation. So a small salad is $5.75 (ish), regardless of what you throw in there, so I went nuts with the toppings. Why not! I get back to my desk and discover that romaine lettuce apparently means "mostly iceberg with 3 lettuce butts in there just to piss you off". Oh hellz no. I didn't pay 6 bucks for lettuce butt (you know what I'm talking about, I just can't think of the name for it...lettuce ends??). So gross. There's a reason this place is busy every lunch hour, and it's THE SALAD BAR. Kebab House salad bar has EVERYTHING you could want on a salad. You choose what you want and they put it all together in a giant bowl and toss it for you (with dressing or dressing on the side). Choices of 6 or so proteins including vegetarian options, veg, pickles, avocado, stuffed grape leaves, olives, nuts, berries, seeds, etc etc. Very reasonably priced (a little over $6 for a "small" salad that is not small and a little more for a large). Your salad is made to order quickly (the line goes super fast) and tossed with your choice of dressing (get the mouhammara!). The greens are GREEN, your choice of mixed greens or spinach (no iceberg). The mezze bar is also great. If you want a mountain of salad with everything you want on it, it's a quick stroll from almost anywhere in the Financial District. Highly recommended. As the name indicates, this place makes kebabs. Pretty good kebabs. But it's hard not to compare them to Sultan's Kitchen, and they just don't quite live up to that kind of competition. Sorry for yelling, but I feel strongly about it! Plus, aren't you glad I'm trying to save you 20%?! Here's how: If you buy a Boston Kebab House (BKH) Card from them for $40, they put $50 on it. Now everything on the menu is 20% off! The build-your-own-salad is listed as $5.24; you only pay $4.20 for it! If you work in the area, even if you only eat out once every week or two, the BKH card is a great deal and well worth paying $40 up front for it. I think the best options are anything (wrap, sandwich, salad, or entree) with the chicken kofte kebab (basically, a specially spiced chicken sausage) or the regular chicken kebab. The bulghur wheat (like rice) is the best side. However, the wrap doesn't always hold together well with all of the stuff inside. Also, like everywhere else in the Financial District don't go right at 12 pm. I eat late lunches, so this never impacts me. The only two provisos: there are better choices in the area for falafel, and their Turkish version of a gyro (doner kebab) leaves much to be desired, way to lamb-y for my taste. read more

I just started a new job downtown and I've been walking past this place around lunch time and the line is always out the door so I decided to stop today. I learned the line is for the salads. One thing about this place it is very organized. You order and pay in one place, pick up in another, if you only want a salad that is a separate line. Everything is clearly marked but they aren't messing around when it's your turn to order you better know what you want. I ordered a chicken Caesar wrap. The first couple bites were a bit dry but when I got into the wrap it was awesome. The chicken was good and it had just the right amount of dressing. The wrap itself was just a bit dry. This is my favorite place for lunch in the Financial District. All of the wraps and sandwiches are great. My favorites are the tandoori chicken shish kebab wrap and the chicken parm on a bulkie roll. If it's crowded, I'd recommend going with one of the chicken kebab wraps. Somehow, no matter how busy they get, they can get you a chicken kebab wrap in about three minutes. read more

The best lunch in downtown Boston. I usually hit up the meze bar and load up as much as possible in my container for 2 meals worth of food. My strategy is to get a ton of baba ghanouj (one of my favorite foods in the world) because it can be used for 3 things: 1. A dip for things like the broccoli, red peppers, fritters 2. A sauce to go along with pita bread 3. A dressing for the various salads they have When I'm eating such a massive quantity of food, I like to keep it light so I only allow myself a couple fried items (corn fritters are my fav) and I stear completely clear of the meat dishes on the right of the bar. The bean and lentil dishes will fill you up without weighing you down. If im looking to save a few dollars and several hundred calories, I'll go to their salad bar instead of the meze. Love that they have avocado available. After eating here I'll never go to the salad bar at Souper Salad or Whole Foods again. read more

This has to be one of the top Turkish restaurants in the area as it offers a vast menu inclusive of kebab/shawarma platters, sandwiches, and salads. My favorite menu item here is Chicken Kofte and the availability of halal items across the entire menu means there's surely something for everyone. On the downside, their falafel is somewhat mediocre and the beef kofta falls flat relative to its chicken counterpart. The rest of the kebabs are solid too and many people find the doner as their go-to, just like the streets of Istanbul. Salads are particularly appealing here for offering a plethora of fresh ingredients but if you're looking for an option that encompasses their most popular items in one dish, then don't hesitate to try their mixed kebab platter. Sandwiches and burgers are solid yet not spectacular while the service is the real downer; one of the main chefs is simply rude or cold most of the time and the main cashier/manager does very little to manage even little crowds, let alone busy periods. My message to them is to pay more attention to their service as it's easily costing them an entire star worth of rating for an otherwise excellent dining experience. I have eaten here twice. The first time I had a 'make your own' salad. It is hard for an establishment to mess this up and I enjoyed the experience. Many choices and the price is very reasoanble. Today at lunch I tried the Doner Kabab. I lived in France for a year and I'm used to eating the real deal. Today's kabab was horrible. The lamb was fine but the sandwich was totally uninspired. The only filler used was lettuce, maybe a chunk of tomato here and there, with a mildly garlic, but mostly bland cream sauce. No hot pepers, no onions, no pickled turnip. I was VERY DISSAPOINTED and will not be going back. I even dragged a friend along and was embarrassed. I don't what all the positive reveiwers were eating but it certainly wasn't what I ate. read more

I love salads and when my co-workers mentioned about this place I had to try it out. They gave me a coupon for $1.00 off but it had already expired and told me to try it out anyway. The salad bar is set up right next to the entrance so the line is always out the door. The two sizes are small ($5.10) and the large ($6.10). You get two choices of protein and you pick the ingredients and the people behind the salad bar toss it for you. The salad comes with a huge slice of pita bread but I never eat it because it's been sitting in the bag for who knows how long. The service is fast the salad is decent. They also have a self service meze bar and sandwiches and entress which I haven't yet try. A plus about this place is they always give you a coupon for $1.00 off anything valid for a week. I thought this was a joke at first. Then I thought I was cheating, somehow. No... I'm not cheating. This is the way the deal works. The price for a full container of meze bar (which includes meat and vegetarian items) is $11.75 including tax (probably has gone up since other reviews). Therefore, I can stuff a box, eat half, and stick it in the fridge for another meal tomorrow. The only downside is that the pita is the thin type that immediate petrifies upon contact with oxygen, meaning you've got to seek some crackers to finish off your dips tomorrow. They make a good falafel and I used to like their Mezanine self-serve buffet but I will never buy the meze bar again because they removed the $10 maximum. Before, you would never pay more than $10. This ensured that I could get a little hummus and not pay $7 per pound for it, because that is an insane thing to charge your customers. Now, if I get a little salad, I can't get hummus because I'll end up paying $15-$25 for the dish. Too bad, so sad, will never buy again. New year, new job...scouting new lunch locations. Sick of going to the same restaurant for food for the last week, I finally branched out and ordered the Middle Eastern salad from Boston Kebab House - it comes with romaine, tandoori chicken, grape leaves, boiled egg,beets, tomatoes, cucumbers, chickpeas, grape tomatoes, red roasted peppers, and a side of muhammara dressing. Delicious. I also ordered a side of their falafel and I'm officially obsessed. It is probably the best falafel I've had in Boston thus far. It has a hint of spicy kick to it, which pairs perfectly with the yoghurt cucumber sauce. I would have given this place 5 stars, save for two issues... 1. It's an absolutely cluster-f-ck in there. You have no idea where you are supposed to order from, where you pay...or what order you do any of that in. Which brings me to my next point... 2. I ordered and paid online, but when I finally figured out which register to pick up from...my online order had gone unnoticed and they had yet to make it. I ended up waiting longer for my order than had I just walked in and ordered on-site. All that said, the great food outweighs a lackluster online ordering system so I will be back and once I visit a few times, I'll have the lay of the land. read more

Great place for a snack or lunch. The Kebab House is the best place to get a late afternoon snack that I have found. Grabbing a few things at the self serve bar only costs a few dollars and is sure to fill me up and get me through the day. The salad bar, although a bit daunting at first, is an excellent lunch option. You can get a small for about $5 and load it up with all sorts of nuts, veggies and chicken, salmon... amazing. The salads here are 5 star. $8 for 2 proteins and as many veggies as you want? C'amaaaaan, it doesn't get any better than that! Their oriental honey ginger dressing is SO GOOD. I always add falafel (not considered a protein so you can add it on top of your protein!), tofu (also doesn't count as a protein), quinoa, and like 20 other veggies. Super hefty, delicious salad. I can only write about the salad bar, which I really enjoy. I'm not a vegetarian but I don't tend to eat a lot of meat, particularly not at lunch time. This place has great veggie options and they don't restrict how many varieties you can add. It's a bit loud in there, so I try to plan my order ahead of time. All-in-all, the food is good and tastes fresh and the staff are really nice. I'd recommend getting there before 12:30 to avoid the line. read more
