Upon entry, we were greeted with a warm welcome by the hostess. I got a few charcuterie boards and they were amazing! I highly recommend the cheese board and the black pork. We have been to many places that served paella, but the black squid ink paella here was one of the very best! Kid friendly. My daughter was able to order chicken strips and french fries from the bar menu. Nicolas, our server, was very attentive and also provided us with many of the recommendations, such as the black pork and the Spanish wine. Went to Bota after seeing a show at ACT/Toni Rembe. Perfect way to decompress and discuss the show with sangria and tapas. Rob took really good care of us and made us feel welcomed and seen. Had a great dinner her a few nights ago. We started off with a pitcher of Honoro red wine, brandy, assorted fruit and cinnamon Sangria, that was really good and strong. Then we ordered fried potatoes with brava and aioli sauce, fresh smoked oysters, chorizo, PX vinagre, lemon air and finished off with a seafood paella with prawns, squid, mussels, & fish. I wish I had better things to say about my experience here! I was with a colleague so couldn't get any photos. First off, uponentering there was a really strong unsavory stench. Somehow my colleague didn't seem phased so I powered through. We split these tapas: -Patatas Brava - by far the best thing we tried -Brussel Sprouts - ok. not crispy or flavorful -Garlic Prawns - very small serving for the price. Got 4 prawns I think. -Ox-tail - not good. Hated the gravy this was in. The meat was sooo fatty All in all, I would not return here. read more

Bota is very strategically located near the Curran, the ACT and the Golden Gate theater and it's become a really good option for the theater crowd. This is the second visit for me and my friend and they delivered another solid fine dining experience. We ordered the secreto iberico, Octopus, brussel sprouts and the regular seafood paella. All of the tapas were solid and the paella came out great (in our prior visit, it was a tad salty but it was perfect today). With the yelp check-in, we got a free chocolate ganache. The food was excellent. On the other hand, service was a bit slow and we had a little bit of a wait between the tapas and the paella. We came in around 5:30 pm and got out at 7 pm - still excellent timing for a 7:30 pm curtain. The restaurant is located in a remodeled hotel and it's just elegant. With tax and tip and a drink, this ended up being $75 per person. Highly recommended when you are in the area. read more

Maybe it was an off day: the food experienced today was nothing short of disastrous. The dishes were presented well but everything else were so very wrong. The two most expensive tapas from the menu was borderline inedible. The grilled octopus was way overcooked and dosed in a layer of salt. The secreto Iberico was far too dry; akin to eating a piece of dried leather. The one nice part is you do get a free chocolate granache with a Yelp check-in. However, that is also faulted by a heavy hand in salt and olive oil (would have been much better without). For 4 tapas, total was about $90 after tip and taxes. Definitely expected better for that price tag. read more

Chose one of the rare days to enjoy dinner in San Francisco and it was warm inside but a floor fan was brought out to cool down the restaurant. We really enjoyed the Garlic Shrimp and Grilled Octopus. We also ordered the regular size Seafood Paella that was more than enough with the appetizers. My friend said it was the best paella she's ever had but I was less impressed and felt it was good, but not spectacular. I just felt there was not a lot of flavor in the rice. Friend ordered the churros for dessert and felt it was lackluster. We both felt the caramel inside didn't taste like caramel and was practically flavorless, no distinct flavor. The vanilla ice cream with the churros was good. I ordered the Creama Catalana and it's basically a creme brûlée. Size was more than enough for two to share and the sugar crystallized top was nicely done. If I were to go back, I would not hesitate to order the Grilled Octopus and would like to try the Squid Ink Paella as well as the Cucumber Delight cocktail. read more
