Absolutely amazing food. The service is not overwhelmingly on the ball but almost anything here seems to be amazing to eat

My Jew friends loved the chocolate babka and the challah bread. I brought it to my first Shabbat and proudly told them that I got it from an Israeli bakery. The cheesesticks are so crispy and aromatic and buttery that I dream about them. The almond croissants were amazing the first time I tried them, the second time, good, the third time, okay, the 6th time, mehhh. My co-worker brought a box of Regulach in for our group to share. I will start by saying my taste buds are enticed by more salt than sweets but today I had the only affair with Regulach. They are very flavorful, soft and not overly sweet, a nice and pleasant treat. read more

I'm not a bread eater, but if I were I'd get all my bread here. Everything is freshly made and you can see it. To satisfy my sweet tooth I get the chocolate rugleah or babka. I walked in here two winters ago as they were giving away samples of their oh-so-delicious chocolate babka. It was warm, soft, light, and just heavenly... I'm salivating as I write this (no lie). I came back a week after to buy a loaf. And if I recall correctly, I believe their almond croissant was also as spectacular (on par with Ceci Cela's). Check it out! First time there. I was walking by with some friends and the storefront just looked very inviting. Everything looked very tempting to taste from the sweet to the savory. So I just settled for the chocolate babka, 2 chocolate rugelach, 2 marzipan rugelach, panniers cookies ( they look like angel wings cookies) and I couldn't resist the creme brûlée Danish. Tested them all and loved every single bite! Very tasty and fresh. Only 4 stars because it's a little pricey. But hey, if I'm going to eat that amount of desserts it might as well be well worth the price! read more

I just wanted to have a seat and have croissant with hot tea. Turned out you buy bakery at one end and drinks at another end of the store. The tea was barely hot to brew my tea bag so I had to ask to replace it , the barista made a face attitude to me but eventually changed the tea. The croissant was mediocre and too sweet for my taste. The place arranged awkward and not comfortable , some tables was left dirty and nobody cared to clean them, I think I even notice a cockroach on the floor. The overall experience considering their prices (7.99$ for small tea with croissant) is way behind normal. Shame on you ! read more

Came in to try a new place for my latte. Paid 5 dollars for a "large" that makes me afraid to see the small- this cup is at max 12oz. They also got my order wrong: I asked for half and half but they gave me milk. The product is definitely good but it's not worth the price or hassle. read more

Consistently tasty. Every item is just freaking delicious here. And the babka. Oh the babka. It's is just out of this world. Hands down the best Babka I have ever had in my life. The Nutella filling is just genius. The Chocolate Babka is fluffy, buttery, flaky, and so many other things. The pastries here are absolutely delicious. I bought several desserts for a dinner I was hosting and they did not disappoint. The chocolate rugs lack is great as is the poppy seed pastry - they don't taste very heavy, which is nice. I also got a slice of the mousse cake and the cheesecake, both of which were to die for. The cheesecake was very fluffy and actually quite lemony, which I enjoyed. My mom said the mousse cake was one of the best she's had in ages (I tried a bite and it was amazing). Best babka ever. Like ever. I've had the lemon ricotta cheesecake for cheesecake may which didn't blow me away, it didn't have a lemon flavor or ricotta flavor whatsoever. And the sufganiyah which were great but I wish the dough was a little easier to bit into and less elastic. Anyway they deserve all the stars simply for their babka. read more

The food is delicious and the staff are so very friendly. And oh man, they bake the most fresh, mouthwatering breads.

My partner, daughter and I walk in after a really unhappy experience at Chat & Chew, looking for some comfort pastry. Immediately, I spot a warming box with rows of chocolatey babka. Will it be "bubbelicious"? Something that can compare to the one your grandmother would have baked? A sweet guy walked over to us from behind the counter during a very busy time of day. He asked if he could help us. I asked if the babka would be as good as my grandmother's...and he assured me that it is seriously good. I said I'd take the chance. At $10 per loaf it was a big chance for me...I'd have been seriously disappointed to blow that kind of cash on a bad babka. He packed my babka and handed my daughter a ruggela...also warm and fresh. I asked her for a bite. Immediately, my mouth warmed with the buttery dough and generous chocolate filling. Happy smile. My partner and daughter took a bite, too. They were both grinning from ear to ear. We thanked him and asked if we could add another one to our order. He gave us an extra one for good measure. Seriously friendly and helpful staff. And, what can I say, the babka was like something out of the Garden of Eden. It was crispy and flaky and chocolatey on top, and moist, buttery and seriously chocolatey on the inside. We were all in heaven on our way home and completely forgot about our awful brunch next door. In fact, it was so good, my partner went back then next day to pick up another loaf. The ONLY reason I'm not giving 5 Stars is because I wasn't able to taste the merchandise! I ordered a large breakfast for a client via Breads Bakery's website - it was very user friendly and easy to use. Bureka Pasties, Mini Quiche Platter, Granola Cups topped with Fruit and Yogurt to name a few things. The order was delivered on time and the client and their staff raved about each and every item! One item unfortunately was missing from the order, which the client brought to my attention. I contacted Breads Bakery and the item was delivered the following Monday with their apologies - a nice bonus breakfast for the client! I look forward to trying Breads next time I'm in the city! The babka IS as good as people claim it to be. But don't stop at the babka. The cafe salads and sandwiches are superb--and be sure to reply with an enthusiastic yes when they offer you bread to go with your salad (it is called Breads after all!). My favorite sandwiches are the cauliflower pesto sandwich on sour dough, which comes topped with sprouts and is a nice light but satisfying sandwich. The cauliflower is roasted until buttery soft, and the combination is perfect. For a heartier sandwich, go for the sabich. It comes on a homemade pita that tastes a bit like a cross between pita and focaccia. Inside, you'll find grilled eggplant, boiled potato, hard boiled egg, tahini, and parsley. The combination is positively outstanding. I've also tried most of their daily rotation breads and taken the baking class. I have enjoyed everything I've purchased. A few years ago, when my parents came to visit from overseas, my father bought some chocolate babka (which my wife and I had inexcusably been unaware of). When he couldn't finish the loaf before his departure, my wife and I ate the left overs. That started our love affair with babkas, which led to a google search on "the best chocolate babka in NY", and a trip to Breads Bakery in the ensuing weekend. The rest is history, and a weekly stop at Breads Bakery is part of our routine now. Everything we've tried has been delicious, but special mentions have to go to the cretzel, the olive and cheese sticks and the Jeruselem baguette, and last but not least the coconut chocolate chip cake. read more

The chocolate babka is insanely good. So darn expensive ($13 for one!) but man...once you bite into it, you forget about the cost. It's basically a bunch of delicious chocolate crossaints rolled into a loaf form. I've tried babkas at other places and have never really been a fan until I tried this one. I also tried the olive bread stick there which wasn't bad but not great. It was a little too crunchy on the outside to the point where I thought I'd chip a tooth. The cheese bread stick looked really good and was something I should have gotten and is usually raved over. I guess it gives me a good excuse to go again. But yea...that babka. May be my favorite NYC bakery and that's saying something. The Gouda cheese straws fresh from the oven are pure perfection. So is the chocolate rugelach. It can be crowded at peak times (breakfast/lunch) but I have always been able to find a seat. The staff is friendly and supportive of my cheese straw addiction, even at 9am. read more
