Everything is perfect, except the girl who works at the front counter. I don't usually write reviews but she was very disrespectful, I felt the need to write it. We went to the counter to pay for whatever we have picked and also wanted something else that was on the counter. We pointed at it, and she would tell us not to point at it and shake her head and sigh at us. But for what? We ignored and sat at the table. They were about to close. She goes around telling other customers very politely that they were closing in five minutes but shout at us 'five minutes'. As we were leaving, I felt the need to talk to the manager about the unpleasant experience I had. I talked to the manager and as we were walking out, the girl would stare at us and talk about us with the other girl at the counter. So I told her if she'd things to say she could say it straight at me. Then she would shout across the store that she wasnt talking about us. SHOUT ACROSS THE STORE WHEN THERE WERE OTHER CUSTOMERS. Very, very rude and disrespectful. Will never return to the store. read more

Delicious crunchy on the outside almond croissant and nice chewy Jerusalem stick baguette. Relaxing atmosphere for a Sunday morning breakfast although limited seating . Very good pleasant service too. I love this place. Everything is made with care. I love the sandwiches too! read more

First thing i notice when stepping through the doors is a very helpful woman by the loose baked goods. All around the customer service was great. I had the chocolate Babka. I had an early morning for medical stuff and was craving a toasted bagel and cream cheese with coffee. I had a lot to get done in the am but didn't want to get street cart food or have to walk out of the way of my appointments. Luckily I saw this spot which can be tough if your not looking. It was under a canopy/construction area. But it was just what I wanted! Not a commercial spot but good food. It was super busy but went really fast. I got the low fat mocha and no bagels! I wanted cream cheese and bagels so I settled for a smoked salmon sandwich and it was better than what I actually wanted!! The bread was so soft and really flavorful! The amount of salmon and cream cheese was perfect! No onion which is good for the day not to have onion breath (although I LOVE onions)....and the mocha was such a nice flavor. Not to much mocha or milk...just perfect! Good amount of seating and I got a great breakfast and coffee efficiently! Love when that happens!! read more

I ran home & wrote this immediately. I live within a 20 minute walk from them, but they are a 5 minute walk from my office. I had been meaning to go for a while and finally got the chance. They are always busy & selling out of babka. So, I ducked into me office, placed my order and did work for about 30 minutes until my order would be ready. It was super easy to order for pick-up online, but there weren't the best directions for pick-up. They are a busy shop with 2 counters, both with long lines. I went to the bakery line and the nice young woman assured me that my order should be picked up in the back. The nice young woman there looked for my order, then assured me that it was up front, event after I explained that they sent me to the back. For me, in my work, at this point, I would simply stop what I was doing (if I were working there), and either go up front myself or find someone else who could and just get the order for the customer instead. I would never make someone bounce back-and-forth. She didn't. I was not happy. I went upfront and got back in line and they tried telling me that they didn't have my order, and then I was hurriedly trying to pull up my confirmation email. Finally, some woman came up to me & I explained that I placed the order on-line through Yelp, which sent me to Delivery.com and she suddenly seemed to understand why they didn't have my order ready. I told her I was pulling up my email to show I paid, and she just asked me what my order was, got it together and tossed in an extra pastry. THAT is what you do. THAT is what keeps New Yorkers (and anyone, I'm sure) coming back for life. read more

I was just walking around Union Square and noticed this bakery. I had the Jerusalem baguette and was so glad I bought two! This was really good. The outside of the baguette had a lot of sesame and the crispness was just right. The inside was soft and had a lot of flavor. The bread also had a nice, strong aroma that was intoxicating. There was only one person ahead of me when I was there. I noticed that the staff wasn't friendly but they weren't rude either. They are just there to get you in and out quickly. I would hesitate to come here when they are busy just based on the feeling that the service would deteriorate. read more

Stopped in on a cold day between running some errands and meeting up with some friends. I had been wanting to try this place for a while and it did not disappoint. All of the tables were taken up, but I grabbed a mint tea and butternut squash/sweet potato quiche to go. The tea was perfect, all loose mint leaves - really perked me up. And the quiche was delicious, a great fall treat to hold me over. I would like to go back and try other baked delights. read more

Superb. Challah is wonderful - light and faintly sweet, incredibly delicious and a wonderful way to start off shabbat or a holiday. Chocolate babka is literally the best I've ever had anywhere and kicks most NYC chocolate croissant - or, excuse me, pain au chocolat - to the curb. Rye bread is dense, moist and filled with seeds - I love it that way. Sandwiches are delicious, as is everything else that I've tried. I strongly advise people to go to a different location, and here's why: I think their baked goods are great, but I witnessed the employees at this location violate sanitation standards. What's the point of wearing gloves when I see you touching your phone and handling the register with the same glove? It takes three seconds to change your gloves. The girl behind the counter today threw my paper bag so hard that the pastry actually came out of it and onto the register counter. The other girl at the register saw this, and promptly shoved it back into the bag with the same glove that she handled my money. Both of them had an incredibly angry energy. I hope the manager or someone who cares sees this because its a shame that such great baked goods are being utterly contaminated. I recommend sticking to the pre-packaged stuff for your own safety because clearly they're not enforcing good sanitation amongst their employees. read more

Left them in the kitchen before the meal, and one guest (to the dismay of other guest) was so drawn towards the cinnamon Challah that he ate 3/4 of it before the meal even started. I stopped here to get a quick bite on Saturday afternoon so that I didn't wander into the farmer's market hungry, which would have been torture. Every member of staff was very friendly. I had the smoked salmon sandwich on whole wheat, and an almond croissant. The croissant was huge; bigger than the sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious. I'll be back. read more

Oh Em Gee. Babka straight out of the oven, Olive cheese sticks perfectly crispy and chewy and salty. Also, right out of the oven! It's expensive, but worth the price/schlep. It's airy and roomy and like any decent bakery smells amazing so I sat and sketched for a while and listened to the spoken Hebrew around me as I happily munched on ruggelah. I bought a loaf of 100 percent rye and it's dense, weighs a ton, but is fantastic if you toast it, I put it in a ziplock in the freezer the moment came home and have been eating it happy all week (Ask them to slice it for you so you can saw off a slice when it's frozen :). It's delightfully sour and is great with butter and marmalade OR with taramasalata and a sunny side up egg :) Happy camper in the house. read more

This review is solely based on the chocolate babka. I had really high expectations because I had heard so many good things and I am a nutella lover. I was a tad disappointed. The babka had a decent taste (loved the nutella) but it was dry and way too crumbly. It was more like a nutella croissant. The chocolate was hardened and not really smooth nor gooey. I will stick to Green's, because I prefer a moister babka with gooier chocolate. Bread's is just average for me. read more

Their bread loaves will ruin all other bread for you. The Nutella babka and chocolate rugelach are flavor bombs wrapped in perfected pastries. The laminated doughs of their croissants and cinnamon buns are impossibly flaky and buttery and shatteringly layered. The new Bread's Bakery has just opened in Lincoln Square. My first experiences were terrific, but once again the customer service, like a lot of customer service in this city, has been reduced to the staff having a good time at the customers expense. While I stood at the coffee counter waiting for someone to make the cappuccino I ordered, the woman who took my order continued to dance to the music being played. Finally someone came over to ask what I was waiting for; at least he seemed to care about the customer. When he said to her 'why didn't you send the order through?', she shrugged, laughed, and continued to dance away. I was hoping that Breads Bakery could be my alternative to Starbucks, and that I would visit daily, but when these establishments become more about the joking, and carrying on behind the counter, I take my business elsewhere. read more

Food is delicious. I had the quinoa salad and my husband had the lentil beet salad. Both had a great flavor. For dessert we had the babka cake, an almond croissant and a cappuccino. We enjoyed it all. The entire staff was very friendly too. We look forward to going back again! read more
