This is my favorite quick lunch spot in La Jolla! I love their turkey chipotle sandwich (fun fact: you can get half sandwiches here for like $5). I also highly recommend their cinnamon rolls & apple rosettes. The service is excellent and almost always the same girls working. They are quick and efficient. What an interesting little cafe. It's a tiny brick building with enough space inside only for the customers to line up and pay. There are plenty of outdoor patio chairs and tables for customers to leisurely sip their drinks and though a good portion of this outdoor patio is uncovered, the famed San Diego weather lived up to its reputation and made it pleasurable. The customers appear to be a good variety of ages so anyone would feel comfortable here. The MOCHA is great. The experience is better. read more

I love Brick & Bell. This review is for their next door location which is new. I love the idea of it but I've not had food there that I liked. The prepared salads are meh. I don't eat sweets and there are a lot of those. Today, I ordered a salad/protein bowl and was very disappointed. They asked me which protein I wanted. I chose chicken and saw them dip into something saucy (vs. just grilled chicken). I thought it seemed odd. And when I got back to work, I saw that it was a saucy mushroom sauce. I detest mushrooms and it ruined the whole thing for me! I feel mushrooms, or anything extra should be disclosed. The salad also was odd, like a kitchen sink sort of thing and I didn't like the basalmic dressing either. I ate a few bites and the rest went into the trash . I'll still go to the original location but likely won't take any more chances with the new one. read more

Overall, the coffee was great, definitely better than Starbucks, but I'm unsure if the price ($5 for a small) is worth it. What a cozy little cafe!! I love this place. I literally just stopped in for a snack for my toddler when we were out shopping, and he chose the m&m cookie and a water. So we didn't sample a ton of menu items (this time at least, because now that I know about this place I will definitely be back!) but that being said, the cookie was delicious! The prices seemed very reasonable. The staff was super friendly. The bakery items on display in the case were plentiful and all looked so delicious and fresh, but the menu itself was surprisingly huge! They offer a lot of breakfast and lunch items as well as the baked goods and desserts. Our service was fast and the restaurant wasn't crowded at all. This is the perfect place to grab a quick bite, or even sit and enjoy the beautiful cozy atmosphere and sip on whatever beverage your heart desires (they had tons- smoothies, coffees, teas, cold brews... tons.) Cute, vintage decorated cafe in La Jolla. We stopped here for a quick snack before we ate brunch. We got avocado toast, an everything bagel with cream cheese, and a scone. The scone was really dry and flaky, probably one of the worst ones I've had. The avocado toast was pretty good, but the portions were quite small. The everything bagel was good, fresh bread so there's not many ways to mess that up! Overall good place to get a quick snack but wouldn't recommend that scone. read more

Bagel and lox, sunrise bagel sandwich, and a coffee (Carmel macchiato one day and a 'mint' mocha the other day; both with almond milk). Everything was very good. The pastries looked amazing too. Ok on the covid precautions, they have only one door in and out so you have to walk past people to get in or out, communal water and cups-no bueno. Walking in first thing I notice is no menu, so for a tourist i had to pull up an online menu and still had to ask what alternative milks were available. Cute little bakery cafe worth stopping by in La Jolla for breakfast. I would come here just for the cinnamon rolls alone!! We got an almond croissant and mini cinnamon roll and ate in their outside seating, and we ended up getting more cinnamon rolls to go bc they were just that good (& I'm not usually fan of cinnamon rolls lol). During normal circumstances I understand, but San Diego Area is experiencing a surge in COVID. I expressed to the barista I would not touch a communal water jug and she shrugged it off. My husband and I decided to really go all out so we ordered a cold brew, an iced Americano, half tuna salad sandwich and half vegetable soup, the breakfast sandwich, and the gluten free orange turmeric bread. The soup and sandwich were just light yet filling enough to be a perfect lunch before a day of exploring and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of vegetables it had. OH and the bread was delightful and a nice light dessert. The cold brew was a little weak but overall still good. I also love that they sell metal straws and obvi I bought one because it helps the environment, plus they're cute. My family and I were visiting San Diego and after a night of drinking we really needed something yummy to eat and great coffee to perk us back up. Brick & Bell Cafe was the spot we were looking for! The staff was very friendly and patient with all of the customers. They also had a lot of tables outside, but we were in a hurry so we got ours to go. There was a lot of space to stand socially distanced from people and they were quick with our order, which was great! We ended up ordering 2 cold brews, a sunrise sandwich on a croissant and a breakfast wrap. The cold brews were great! They weren't too bitter, but they still gave us a nice jolt for the day. My husband got the Sunrise Sandwich (eggs, bacon, tomatoes & cheddar cheese on a bagel, bread, wrap or croissant). It was so tasty that we wished we bought 2 for him. I got the Breakfast Wrap (Spinach wrap, eggs, cheddar cheese, avocado, tomatoes, cucumbers, and bacon). It was also good, not as heavy as a standard breakfast burrito, but still filling enough to get me through the day. Whenever my in-laws are in town, they always have to stop at Brick & Bell Cafe. We stopped here for coffee and breakfast the other day. There's always a steady stream of customers entering the tiny cafe, but they've got a pretty good system and it doesn't take long to get your order. They do have laminated menus at the register, so if you don't know what you want, grab one of those before you get in line. After ordering, they give you a flag to take to your table (there's probably about 10 small tables outside) for your food, while you grab your drinks at the counter. They have a lot of scones, pastries, etc. in the case, so it was very tempting that I order a scone, but instead I ordered the sunrise sandwich: bacon, egg, tomato, cheese on a croissant. It was just what I wanted before taking a walk down in the cove. My father-in-law had the Lox & bagel which looked really good too. I love scones, so I'd bookmarked this place a while ago and was excited to finally try it. They have a variety of scones in both regular and mini size, though the mini isn't actually mini, it's quite large in itself! I picked up 4 "mini" scones - orange almond, blueberry, maple and chocolate chip. At $1 each they are very reasonably priced. They were pretty good, but not in a drive-out-of-your-way kind of way. My favorite was probably the chocolate chip. They also had cranberry, raisin, apple cinnamon and 1 or 2 others. I took my order to go, but they also have a cute outside patio. read more

Came into Brick & Bell Cafe on a sunny Sunday morning after completing a 5k. Ready to destroy all the progress I made with some calorically-heavy scones, my friend and I made our way down and ordered a couple of scones and pastries to share. All together, we got the mini almond, cinnamon apple, blueberry, and maple scones, and an almond croissant to top it off. Not to mention a London fog and lavender latte! Unlike most people I've met, I love scones. I love how bready and dense they are, without being overly sweet. The only thing that elevates a scone for me is nuts, so I was excited to try to almond scone in particular. Unfortunately, all of the scones were busts for me! I was seriously bummed. They tasted kind of metallic, like there was too much baking powder or soda or whatever. The only one that was decent was the maple scone, and that was just because of the sweet glaze on top. Unfortunately, my lavender latte was a bust as well...it tasted super artificial. The saving grace for this cafe was the almond croissant. It was super delicious (and bumped this review up from a 2 to a 3). Perfectly flakey and sweet, my friend and I demolished it. I don't quite understand the hype for the scones here.
