Because I stay at this hotel and have Globalist status, I get to eat at this restaurant for free for breakfast! It's such a great perk and I absolutely love this place. Not only is this ambiance super chic and homey, but the drinks and food are out of this world! The cute plates, unique cutlery, and tableware add to the ambiance. Drinks: Their juices are super fresh and made when ordered. I ordered their beet root latte and I could literally taste the beet. It was so soothing and I loved the little transparent cup that they placed it in. Food: Their acai bowl is very refreshing and aesthetically pleasing. All of the fruits meshed together so well and so delish. The fried chicken and waffles were an amazing fusion of Korean and American flavors. The chicken was so juicy even though it was fried. The sauce was spot on with the gochujang and the waffles were perfectly toasted. The classic burger was a lot more filling than S and I thought. It was also presented so well on the wooden board and the fries were perfectly stacked inside a cute tin can. Absolutely recommend coming here to experience a historic women hostel now Hyatt hotel. Cool brunch spot in DTLA located inside Hotel Figueroa. I ordered the steak and frites and the Evelyn cocktail. The cocktail was so refreshing. The steak was delicious and mine was perfectly done to medium rare. However, of the 3 steaks we ordered for our table, we had to send 2 back. We asked for medium rare for all three, but one came out well done and the other came rare. The thing is the steaks came sliced already, so the chef should've known. Consistency is a bit lacking. A bit of a wait, but the new steaks came out perfectly done. They also comped a sliced a cake for a birthday. There's parking next to the hotel, but it's $10 parking. Heard it is sometimes $20. Made a big party reservation online for a party of 8. It was pretty simple and easy. Last minute, more friends decided to join us for Sunday brunch. So I made a call and they're able to accommodate us. So, a total of 11 people. This Café is located inside the hotel. Check-in was a breeze, was seated once half the party arrived. Service was okay. It was pretty busy. Two of the steaks came out the wrong temp, so we had to send it back. They replaced it, and all was good, but it did take a while, and pretty much most of the party was done eating. Since it was one of our friends' birthday, the server did comp us a slice of cake. Overall, it's a nice Sunday brunch vibe. It could get busy, so making a reservation is a must. Also, one thing I didn't quite like was that no one mentioned anything about auto-gratutity of 20% for large party. First of all, service - good. Ambience - super cool! Drip coffee - meh! Most other places have better coffee. Avocado toast - well, the avocado had zero flavor. Salt and pepper on table - the littlest and with minimal outflow. I had to unscrew the salt cap to get any out. Now the main reason for the low rating - surreptitious charges on the bill. A weird Benefits Surcharge and an automatic 20% gratuity for a single person service. Why?? Café Fig, the issues are easy to fix. If you are not able to make your revenue targets, increase your prices. People will pay if it's within their reach. But don't come across as sly by adding line items to the bill. My partner and I were staying at Hotel Figueroa and came to Cafe Fig for breakfast during the stay. On the first morning we dined here (Saturday), the food was spectacular. My favorite was the breakfast burrito which packed the meat, hash-brown, and all the other yummy goodness really well. To top it off, there was this tasty orange sauce that tied it all together! It was probably one of the best breakfast burritos that I've had. I was so happy about the breakfast burrito, that I ended up ordering it again on Sunday morning (Mother's day). However, I was quite disappointed to find that the ingredients inside the burrito were not mixed well. All of the hash-brown was to one side and it was missing the orange sauce. Was told you couldn't go wrong with a burger here. It's true. It's hard to mess that up. But not impossible, so let's go over how this place did it. First, if you serve burgers you need to offer yellow mustard. Not the fancy Dijon mustard, although it is nice that you cater to the high and mighty. Please stock up on the regular yellow mustard. It's a must for some of us burger lovers. Next the onions. Either grill them or place them raw. But this burger had a strange mix of pickled, raw and slightly fried onions in the ensemble. The bun is HUGE and should have an at least 1/3 of a pound patty. The patty on this one was less than a 1/4. Which means it slides around when you bite into it. So you get some bites that have meat and other bites where it feels like you are chewing on a bagel. I don't know if it was late or it was that the place was somewhat empty but the servers didn't really come around too much. Water was refilled twice, iced tea zero. The place looks nice and it's near LA Live but that's about all I have to say about that. read more

Chilaquiles were okay. 4% benefit surcharge and 20% tip added automatically, but they still include tip line on the bill. The food was delicious and the wait staff's service was impeccable, especially Amy. However, the overall experience didn't meet my expectations for a restaurant associated with the Hyatt. Prices were outrageous--my breakfast alone averaged $35--and a 20% gratuity is added even for pickup orders. I ordered guacamole and chips to-go and a ginger ale right before the 9:30 pm close (unusually early for a hotel restaurant) for $25. After taking it to my room and trying one bite, I called down but couldn't reach anyone and left a voicemail that was never returned. The next morning I spoke with Jessica the hostess and explained the guacamole was extremely tangy and inedible; she said she'd connect with the manager about a refund and took my contact and card info. By Tuesday I still had no refund or receipt email. I then spoke with Trevor, who promised to put me in contact with the manager, Kenisha. Kenisha called and confirmed I would receive a refund, but said it would have to go through billing since several days had passed. A day or so later Alondra sent a copy of my original receipt and I asked about the refund--she didn't seem informed. I recapped everything again; she said she'd follow up with Kenisha. One week passed with no update, and after another follow-up a week later I still have no response--now almost three weeks with no refund. read more

While I went to do work, I did get their Taro latte. I had never had it in a latte and I honestly expected coffee to be integrated into it in some way. To my surprise, it wasn't but I was not mad. It is a little TOO expensive in my opinion, especially since my cup was not even full to the top but for my sake, I factor in the beautiful experience/environment into the price lol read more

The ambiance was so warm and welcoming with all the Christmas decor. Very peaceful. The baby slept the whole entire time. We ordered the Chicken and Waffles the Croissant Sandwich. LISTEN!!!! I've had so many variations of chicken and waffles but BABY THIS WAS THE BEST! The waffle was perfect with a lite crisp and airy. I got the bbq on the side (suggested by our waiter) the chicken was perfect and I'm happy I got the sauce on the side because I could control how much I wanted with each bite. My partner ordered the Croissant Sandwich and I must say that was a very delicious sandwich, the garlic aioli was superb. That chef back there needs all the kisses and appreciation because WOWZERS. Our breakfast at Cafe Fig was delicious and the portion sizes were large enough that we opted to do a family style meal. Their chilaquiles were great. Crunchy and with a fair amount of heat. Not soggy like other places. The sauce was like mole and it was topped with two eggs and some cheese. Three egg combo came with bacon, toast and we opted for a fruit bowl rather than potatoes. Scrambled eggs were fluffy and moist. There was also a small salad with a light vinaigrette. We ordered potatoes separately along with a croissant and guava pastry. All were very good. The potatoes were crispy, hot and well seasoned. Service was spot on and the restaurant was cozy. There are also plenty of sofas and chairs to wait for your guests to arrive. read more

Okay so the vibe and ambience I love especially the color scheme and interior design of the cafe (restaurant). To the far back corner right you can see the kitchen and front middle they have the cafe section with pastries and the register and front left is the bar and bar top seating area. The menu has some pretty good options and I believe they serve breakfast all day. I ordered the braised short rib empanadas which were crunchy, hot, and fried to perfection. The sauce was amazingly and the perfect pairing and freshness to add with the heavy beef and it was also too with cilantro, more sauce, and queso fresco. I love the creamy addition of the dairy to go with the beef and as you can see they were not stingy with the sauce. I also got a delicious Malbec which paired perfectly and was rich and smooth and a guava and cheese pastele. My waiter was considerate enough to warm it up so I had hot sticky guava just oozing through each bite and the pastry was baked and cooked to perfection as well. I didn't see nor taste any cheese but I love guava so I was happy. My waiter was amazzzing! I'll later update my review with his name if I can find it but kind of tall handsome Asian cat. He was attentive and just overall 5 star service. My only disappointment was the Caesar salad. It was $15 and it was big but was not accompanied with a side of dressing or lemon wedges. I saw it wasn't very white cheese or citrus heavy so I had to make it my own/to my liking. It was a very basic Caesar. So I had to ask for Parmesan because who doesn't love a good Caesar with shaved Parmesan or shredded Parmesan? I They didn't have it so I think I topped it with grated Parmesan. Once I closed out I saw they had an arugula salad and a side salad that was half the price that i realized I could have ordered instead. I didn't want a large salad just something green. Now I know for next time. But besides the salad the wait staff and those that attended to any small requests smiled and were super friendly. Came to LA for the car show. I've been reading about for a few decades, amd now that I live in San Diego, I had to see it at least once in person. Had a very late lunch at Sup Noodle Bar in Irvine (see separate review) and simply didn't feel very hungry. At 8:30pm, my wife & I figured we should eat something, so we strolled down to the restaurant and shared two light dishes. Asian chicken salad: I love it when the veggies get chopped really small so it's easy to eat. There was a lot of chicken in the salad too. When I first saw it, given the darker lighting, I was worried it would be too full of mayonnaise. It wasn't. The dressing was very nice, a light, fragrant, sesame based dressing that went very well with the chicken & veggies. I could eat this salad for many meals. A strong "A-". Waffle with berries: this was fantastic. The waffle was light, crispy, fragrant - rare to have such good waffles! The berries tasted very nice too. Just wish there was more. And adding a touch of syrup further improved the enjoyment, balancing out some of the acidity from the berties. Another solid "A-". The decor is upscale casual, and very laid back. Was in LA for a weekend business trip. Staying around Downtown LA Live area. Found this little cute cafe, as part of a boutique hotel. Literally everything I need is here. This place is an expensive place for breakfast - something that should've been about $50-60 was over $80 due to additional charges and automatic added tip - although it may not seem like it from glancing at the menu, items cost roughly $20 per item. The coffees had added charges that the waiter did not tell us when ordering (they are not listed on the menu). The service was slow, some of the food was slightly cold (lukewarm). They add the tip onto the bill directly and will not remove it (even if the service is bad and it's automatically 20%). I am not one to complain about tipping but I should not be obligated to tip at 20% if the service was subpar at best. They stated it was on the menu, however, I did not see this listed. Restaurants that automatically charge tips almost guarantee subpar service. read more

Just a "let me get your number and email and someone will contact you" Well it's been 2 weeks and no one has reached out. Anyway, the food/drinks/service was a 6/10. Came in here for a happy hour after a very long day of meetings and the selections were just perfect. Entry to the hotel was loud and young and professional. And inside, you can go for a little quieter time. Service was fantastic! I had to hang around to finish up work and the host (he was so great I'm so sorry for forgetting to ask for their name) left me alone appropriately but well taken care of and never had to wait for more than 2 mins. I was fortunate enough to enjoy two meals at Café Fig while staying at Hotel Figueroa in downtown Los Angeles. One evening, I ordered fresh delicious chips with guacamole and pico de gallo as a starter and a wonderful fresh Cobb salad for my entrée. There was so much food left over that I had a full lunch the next day with just the leftovers. Also, one morning I ordered a customized omelette with smoked salmon, roasted tomatoes, spinach and cream cheese. It was an enormous omelette. Prepared perfectly and very flavorful. Wifey found this spot as part of Capital One Dining. Plenty of paid parking lots around, about $7-10. Best chance at street parking would be Francisco St right by the Courtyard Marriott. Walk past the hotel reception desk and bust a u-turn. You'll see the bar to the left and the host to the right. Food was ok. Shrimp wasn't deveined. Grits were cheesy but cold. Chilaquiles could've used some protein beyond the eggs. The burger was solid, but the fries (herb or truffle) were probably the best part. Drinks were much better though.
