I travel to Dallas often and make Cafe Pacific a regular stop. I enjoy to start off with a very cold martini and relax while looking at their menu offerings. My recent trip I started with Escargot that was delicious. I rudely picked up the empty tray after I chomped on the appetizer and poured the leftover sauce on my bread to finish. I'd heard quite a bit about this place, so I was genuinely excited to finally give it a try. I happened to be in the area, called ahead, and was able to get a table. The restaurant itself has a cozy, intimate feel and was fairly busy, but we were seated right away. Service was excellent from start to finish: warm, attentive, and professional. For the appetizer, we started with the foraged mushrooms, and this was probably my second favorite dish of the meal. The mushrooms were beautifully buttery and had a nice depth of flavor. My only criticism was the seasoning, the dish leaned noticeably salty, particularly when eaten on its own. A little more restraint with the salt would have let the natural earthiness of the mushrooms come through. For dinner, I'm gonna start with from my least fav: the Alaskan Wild Caught Halibut (which was the chef's daily special). Unfortunately, this was the biggest disappointment of the meal. The description sounded excellent...parmesan crust, leaf spinach, blistered heirloom tomatoes, and a lobster cognac beurre blanc. The execution fell short. The halibut was quite dry and lacked the clean flavor I expect from a well-prepared piece of fish. The beurre blanc had potential, but the sauce didn't have the freshness or brightness I was hoping for, and overall the dish felt somewhat flat. Given that this was the chef's special, I expected much more. The Poached Lobster & Truffle Pasta was better, but still not a standout. The combination of butter-poached lobster, capellini, lemon zest, English peas, Parmesan-Reggiano, capers, and Burgundy truffle sounds incredibly promising. There were definitely layers of flavor, but the dish itself felt drier than I expected. I was hoping for something more silky and cohesive, especially with the lobster and truffle. Instead, the individual elements didn't quite come together the way I expected. My clear favorite was the Prime Steak Fillet. The steak had the most satisfying flavor of everything we ordered, and I particularly enjoyed the accompanying tomato!!! It had a really nice balance of acidity and seasoning that complemented the steak beautifully. This was the one dish that really delivered for me. Overall, I really wanted to love this place. I came in with high expectations because of everything I'd heard, and while the service, atmosphere, and hospitality were all excellent, the food was inconsistent. Loved our experience here for a Saturday date night. Started with some great champagne to start. Loved that our server was available when needed but also gave us space! Started with oysters (they were good but small). For dinner we had the lobster and truffle pasta, 12 oz filet mignon and a side of asparagus. The pasta was delicious and I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of lobster and freshly shaved truffle on top. The filet was also really good and cooked to a perfect medium rare however I could've done with the sauce on the side. Asparagus was good but slightly under seasoned. I had some business in the area and my acquaintance suggested we go to lunch and so I tried this location for the first time. Amazing experience all the way around! The ambiance was as classy as any of the Cafe Pacific locations I have been to. As I have grown to expect (and respect!) the service was amazing! Now let's talk about the food! Our favorite restaurant for years in Highland Park Village, where Dallas high society meets top quality food served by a highly professional waitstaff, Café Pacific was a home run on a special occasion. First, the soup options were clam chowder and broccoli cheddar. Given the summer heat in Texas, I suggest offering a thinner soup option, which I know you have available. We had a wonderful Valentine's Day experience at Cafe Pacific! This was our first visit and open to visiting again. It's a smaller establishment, so reservations are highly recommended! The service was very solid. Attentive enough, but gave us space also. The ambiance is cozy, but nice and romantic. The food was good, very fresh, and presented very well. We tried the spinach dip, tortilla soup, herb crusted sea bass, and red snapper. The sea bass and red snapper were both very tasty. The spinach dip and tortilla soup were just ok. I had very minor issues with some aspects i.e my baked potato was a bit undercooked, so it wasn't soft & fluffy as a baked potato should be. Pretty good, for the price I've had better, stuffy atmosphere and an older clientele. -- Cafe Pacific is an upscale place nestled in this super-riche outdoor shopping mall. There is a two-story Rolex store nearby, to give you some context. Parking is a challenge - it's a tight parking lot but we managed to get a spot. No valet for this place. Given that it is in this richy-rich style outdoor mall, the prices of the menu items are also pretty steep. Went here for her birthday - something different. Hostesses were nice and seated us immediately. The staff and much of the clientele were pretty stuffy. No warm greeting, no specials, just get down to it. I noticed this was consistent with the other servers too. They all wear long white cloaks and all act very studious. My wife looked around and said "I think we are the youngest here" and she was almost right - I did hear a little kid scream and saw the family leave - jeans-wearing mom in tow. But yes, lots of white-haired men with their, daughters, let's say. Tall ceilings, dark wood paneling / wainscotting, some art hung up high, a tall flower display in the front. Not a very large place. Food was good, but not great. Their pepper-crusted steak was good - found a small piece of gristle but ok. It was nice but came smothered in this dark-brown sweet sauce? Kind of threw it off and I don't think the menu mentions it. There's no option for like truffle butter or anything like that either. Sides were, ok. Creamed spinach was nice but wow that poor spinach was decimated - like finely finely diced. The mac and cheese - I'd pass. It has this odd sweetness to it. I've had much better anywhere else, including home. He scallops were nice - I tried them - excellent sear on them. Wine was great. Oh they comped a desert since it was her birthday, which was nice - key lime cheese cake which was great. Very expensive. I have to say, overall, I wouldn't go back. I took my king to a fine dining place we have not tried before: Café Pacific. It is small inside, so booking reservations was the right move for us. Upon entering, we were seated to the left in a more closed off, intimate area which was nice considering we were for a birthday dinner. The bread and butter came, and it was really good but perhaps not quite as good as other competitors (i.e. Ocean Prime). We ordered some drinks (Old Fashioned and Paper Plane), and both were very strong yet simple and tasty. Next was the appetizer: spinach and artichoke dip. As someone who is not the biggest artichoke fan, let me say that this was amazing!!! The artichokes were diced very well, which is normally an issue when eating this. Not this time, though! It is perfect for sharing. You may need more of the bread-like crisps that come with it though as the portion size is not small. I ordered the Asian Chilean sea bass, while he got the salmon. I did not try his salmon, but he did try my sea bass which we both agreed was nothing short of incredible! The fish itself was cooked perfectly, and the crispiness on the outside of it was absolutely divine. The soy sauce was not too salty, and the spinach soaked it up which elevated the whole dish. I also thought the jasmine rice was great and cooked perfectly. This is one of the higher-priced seafood dishes but for good reason! Also, the asparagus fritti, which was fried with grated parmesan, was wonderful with a great creamy garlic butter sauce of some sort! On the other hand, my boyfriend was not as impressed with his salmon dish. He said it was simply grilled and was tasty but could have used more flavor (perhaps a sauce or something to help elevate the smoked salmon flavor). I don't think he will order that again. I ordered another drink (Vesper), but unfortunately I did not like it at all. With a combination of gin, vodka, and wine, it tasted like Dawn dish soap. That is not an exaggeration. I didn't send it back because I don't like to do that, so I drank it and kept quiet. For dessert, they gave us their signature dessert with ice cream, nuts, house-made chocolate sauce, and some kind of caramel-almond crisp. It was different yet delicious! It reminded me a lot of fried ice cream which I haven't had in a very long time. Overall, I do feel that for a little over $200 for everything, the food was great but not quite $200 worthy (maybe more like $140). Would I come back? Well, there are a lot of fine-dining competitors where I know I'm going to get exactly what I want and will easily pay for it. Café Pacific just needs a bit more flavor with their food. I came here for a birthday dinner. The staff was super friendly and was very attentive and answered all of our questions on their very large menu selection. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table. It was very tasty. For my entree, I ordered salmon that came with sautéed spinach and truffle fries. It was all very good and nice portion sizes. We also shared a dessert, which was the Pecan ball. It was basically ice cream, dipped in chocolate, rolled in pecans. Even though it was a simple dessert, it was tasty. My only complaint was that you could tell that this restaurant has been around for years, since 1980. The seating is very close together. It was very challenging to get in and out of our seats without hitting the seats behind us. Thankfully, everyone was very friendly and didn't seem to mind the tightness. They also offer complimentary valet parking and if you choose to self park, the parking lot is just a few yards away and there is decent parking, but it is in a shopping center with other businesses so I would definitely recommend taking advantage of the valet parking. My only guidance here is this will be a strictly wine spot for us. Cocktails were not great. The Negroni wasn't balanced like your traditional 1-1-1 template, and they shook my manhattan (please don't shake manhattans). Onto the food. The calamari is by far the BEST calamari we have ever had. It was sooooo perfectly crisp, flavorful and both dipping sauces it was served with were outstanding. Next, we shared the sea bass. We don't normally share but we weren't starving. The sea bass was delicious and the corn risotto was soooooo good. For dessert we ordered the cheesecake and it was also one of the best cheesecakes we've had. They also brought out a beautiful birthday dessert with this amazing pecan tuile on top. The restaurant is located in a really high end shopping center ... think Christain Louboutin, Valentino, Goyard, Alexander McQueen high end... Refreshing and full of taste. The trout almondine did not disappoint. Neither did the dover sole. The sea bass was to die for with a perfect crust and risotto.
