I used to love coming here but I am just so disappointed in the quality of their sandwiches. I got a "gourmet" grilled cheese sandwich which I paid $6.19 for. It was such a sad sandwich. It's something that a 6 year old would make at home. There was nothing gourmet about it. It seriously just had some basic cheese from a basic grocery store with some basic mayo. They should seriously change the name from "gourmet" to "Basic" grilled cheese. I don't mind paying 6+ dollars on a small sandwich as long as the quality and taste is there which this place is lacking. I would've given zero stars if possible but I'll just say that one star is for the service cause the girls are always nice. read more

OMG!! So today I woke up from my nap and I was starving... and since I just had a heart attack I need to start eating right... well I'm a bachelor, so cooking is not my strong suit.. except I can make a mean microwaveable dish.. but anyways... I was walking to the liquor store and I noticed these chairs and tables and umbrellas.. and I've seen them before but never caught on to what it was.... so today I thought I'd take a gander... and I found the cutest little cafe.. This place is called Cafe Lorel... and omg it was like Alice in Wonderland... when I walked thru the door it was like I went down the Rabbit Hole... this place was amazing.... inside I found the friendliest ladies with the biggest smiles on there face.... the walls packed with pictures and signs.... just made me feel so welcomed... so I ordered a Turkey / Bacon / Swiss on a croissant and "Holy Shit!" It was the best sandwich I've ever had.... and I found that they make breakfast sandwiches too.. and by the looks of it they can make coffee a million different ways and guess what? They open at 6:30am... right about the time I wake up... I ate here today on a whim and was very happy with my last minute decision. The lady at the register was very friendly and recommended the chicken avocado. Cafe' Lorel has new management and they're coffee has the kick with the punch to wake you up...and the authentic quality and great prices to keep you hanging around on those lush red leather lounge chairs. The owner, Lorela, is wonderful and personally makes the recipes for most of the deli sandwiches, soups, and melts. Here's a secret- make sure to get a simple shot of espresso because she makes her own blend from imported Italian coffee beans. The shop has space to breathe (ahhh) and is perfectly placed near the 405 freeway and Long Beach State. Apparently the tuna melt gets people lined up outside the door during the weekdays. The sandwiches are decent. The owner/manager that was on that was on duty was extremely rude was asked about refills for iced coffee. When asked, out of curiosity and for knowledge sake, why coffee shops in general tend to offer refills for hot but not iced coffee, owner/manager responded in rude way. When she was informed that the question was not a complaint and was purely out of curiosity, she simply respond in a unwarranted and snarky manner "I do not think that I have to answer your question." The rest of the staff was very pleasant. Good, fresh coffee, and the mini cinnamon rolls are a must try. This unassuming coffee shop is in a strip mall facing Pacific Coast Highway. The owner a great baker, so don't leave without trying her mini cinnamon rolls, a steal at 70 cents. They're sticky, not gooey, and the chewy sugar 'crust' lends a unique texture (don't worry, there's a clean bathroom to wash your hands). The $7 daily special is another great deal - a drink (coffee or soda, pick the coffee), a filling, fresh 1/2 sandwich, and a small cup of good soup. Woke up craving a bagel sammie and wanted something close to home that was open at 630a. I don't believe the bagels are made on the premise but it was still very fresh. The wheat bagel, turkey, swiss, and avocado was not on the menu but they were happy to make it for me and it was delicous and not over priced. I ordered a Mexican Mocha also not on the menu but he went out of his way to get me everything I wanted and it was fantastic. Even better than other Mexi Mochas I've had around town. When I mentioned it was my first visit there he recommend next time I call ahead and he can have it ready for me and was such a nice guy saying we'll make you whatever you like "thats just the kind of place this is" Great service. First time here this afternoon. Ordered a plain croissant and a medium iced coffee. I can't say that the place was good because all I ordered was a croissant which you can buy anywhere or make anywhere. The iced coffee was literally just pumped from a machine and some ice was scooped. I wouldn't say it was bad but it wasn't anything special. I didn't feel like I would go back, which I won't. Prices are decent. One thing that I did not like was that there was no greeting when I walked in not when I ordered. I feel like first impressions on everything and I didn't feel too welcomed. They always take the time to make sure they get the order correct and they label the sandwiches clearly if there are special requests. I will definitely keep coming back. Had 5$ breakfast special. pretty good deal, especially with the amount of coffee refills I get. The coffee is okay, they have a little variety in flavors so that keeps it interesting. The service was very friendly to my friend and I who tend to study at places for a long time and they were great with it. Just about everyone who came in was on a first name basis with the owner and this place seems to have a lot of regulars that love the lunch special so next time i come I might get that too. It's a little quiet place near my workplace. It's not bad, but I won't say it's the best either. Most of their items are very simple items: sandwiches, coffee, pastries. They deliver to my office all the time, so that's a plus. If I have to order from here, I like the skinny bagel which is almost like a veggie sandwich with bagel bread. Great little cafe!! It's very mom& pop style. The atmosphere is very home-y with a friendly staff. All their foods are made fresh! The lorella's cookies are a must try if you like soft and chewy cookies. What a hidden gem I found! This is on the corner of pch/Anaheim street. I would have missed if it I was not walking by. Greeted warmly by staff, and their menu on the wall as well as a take home pamphlet. I ordered a tall coffee in which I got to choose what coffee I wanted: I chose Hawaiian hazelnut with a bit of Kona.. No need for cream or sugar, perfect and hot. Great selection of breakfast items, and the most AMAZING bite sized cinnamon roll.. Crunchy and sweety and warm and fluffy on the inside... Perfect size for those who want a little treat. Patrons are also friendly, very nice atmosphere more intimate then a Starbucks, and prices very reasonable. I'm hooked! read more

I am new to the area and was looking for a local coffee shop. Stumbled upon this gem this morning and was absolutely blown away. Had a turkey avocado sandwich, cranberry muffin and a latte. Everything we amazing! I have had a lot of coffee in many different shops but this was one of the best cups I had since moving to Long Beach. My sandwich was delicious, plenty of turkey and avocado. This was my first time coming here and the person making the food was so nice, cheerful and ready to help you but when it came to the older women at the front taking your order it was another story. She was not very friendly(seems like she hated her job) & when I asked for a tomato bagel(bagel with cream cheese & tomato) she said that she didn't have any when there were clearly bagels in front of her.. I ended up asking for what goes on the English muffins and she rudely replied anything. Overall a three and 1/2. Ambiance is coffee house with food and coffee/tea drinks. Went here for lunch today. Some of us ordered the lunch special with a grilled cheese sandwich, salad or soup and a drink for $7.00. Very good deal. My daughter tried the tomato basil bisque and loved it....very flavorful. My husband ate the submarine sandwich on Squaw bread With a coffee and really enjoyed it. I had the Chicken and avocado salad. The salad also had cucumber,croutons and tomato on it. It was fresh but a bit plain. There was a mix up with our order but we well definitely be back to try some more items on their menu. read more
