We where there today we ordered our meal took a long time and seemed waiters didn"t know what they where doing. We finally got our order was horriable beef taco it was a small sliced hamburg inside and the price wasn"t worth it. This is a delightful surprise . I have to come over to VA Hospital for my healthcare frequently so I am always looking for a good place to eat while in between appointments. I looked this little joint up, tried it and I am tickled to find it. Food is homestyle, flavors and portions, and the atmosphere is bright and cheerful. Dont leave without trying the popovers!! Yummy, hand rolled, Indian frybread, so much good food! Tortillas are handmade too like so much else here. Everything on the menu is delicious that I've tried. I love to stop here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The ground beef tacos are my favorite because they taste just like the tacos my nana would make. The cinnamon tea also taste just like my nana's. The staff is always friendly and caring when serving us. The restaurant has a small cozy home feeling. The tables always have fresh flowers and it's always very clean. This new location on 6th ave is not what we were hoping for. There were many open and clean tables when we walked in. However, a party of 4 of us has to wait 10 min to be seated? In the furtherst booth in the corner and it was dirty. The cashier is seating people, so you have to wait for a line of people to pay before you can get seated. I hope she collects money better than she seats customers. Our server was great. She has a welcoming smile and stayed on top of everything. The food though...... not so good. Popover was raw and gummy when it should be crispy and cooked well. The chicken in the rolled tacos tasted very old and the breakfast potaoes were super greasy. Green chili meat looked boiled and flavorless. The red chili was the only good thing here besides our server. I will only be visiting the Santa Rosa at the San Xavier Mission from now on. It is smaller, but the service and food can't be beat, and the cook plays 80's music at this Mission location. read more

Went to Santa Rosa with a party of 10 for birthday. It was my suggestion to go there since I've always had good breakfast and nice experience. Well, not today. Service was slow and food mediocre. We had to get up to get our drink refills. My chorizo burrito had no flavor. I returned it after one bite. The waitress was slightly upset that requested something else. She said" You took a bite". I did get another menu item however, when I got my bill. The burrito and replacement item were both charged. I didn't feel. Like arguing just won't go back. 2 other members in my party where also attended improperly. They were told their order would have to wait. Fortunately, waitress forgot to charge their drink order. I love this place. The wait girls are fantastic! The food is delicious. If you ever feel like having some native food this is the spot. It feels like Tucson in there. The food reminds me of stuff they'd serve at a family get together. For example the first time I went there I ordered the red chile plate which comes with refried beans and you choice of rice, calabacitas, or potato salad. I choose potato salad. You get flour tortillas or an Indian fry bread. Of course I took the Indian fry bread. It was Boooooommmmbbb! They also offer iced cinnamon tea. The best! Went back yesterday to have an Indian taco. It was delicious. The size of them is worth every penny. Go try it! read more

Bland, no flavor and bland again! Hubby and I had the Indian Taco with ground beef. No seasoning, no salt, no nothing. The bottle of hot sauce that was put on our table had no kick and had a tinny aftertaste. The fry bread was good but will not be back! read more

After being featured on Pati's Mexican Kitchen, I was very excited to eat at while at the Tucson Rock Show. They were not at all busy in at 1:30 pm on a Sunday. Servers were pleasant but meal and drinks were very slow to come out. At the suggestion of my server, I ordered the Popover sampler to get a taste of each meal. My adult daughter order a bean and cheese burros. The meal finally came. Two of my popovers just had meats placed on the fry bread - no lettuce, tomato or cheese. Terrible plain nothing lunch. My daughter bite into her burro and immediately spit it out. It was a bean and meat burro. Her has not eaten red meat for 20 years and it makes her sick. We asked the server for what we ordered and she said it would take a while. We sent the meal back and declined a new meal. When we got the bill, the returned meal was not removed from the tab! They apparently wanted us to pay for a meal that had one bite out of it with that bite spit out on the plate. We went to the register and had to wait several minutes while the lady in front of us explained that they had not received the order they placed and wanted a corrected bill. The cashier also corrected our bill without problem. But overall, it was the worst service and meal we had during our 5 day stay in Tucson. I do not recommend. We found many great restaurants in Tucson. This was not one of them. read more

Visited for Father's day breakfast with as party of 6. We were seated in reasonable time even with the massive groups of big parties waiting. Hostesses Dominique and kayla greeted us with smiles and were tentative to all the customers that were waiting, even giving seating time updates as they could. We've been to Cafe Santa Rosa a few times and enjoyed it. Not today! I ordered the sampler (an appetizer) as my meal & my husband ordered the Indian Taco. My meal came out 1st so I began to eat. Much time went by but my husband didn't get his order. The people next to us, who ordered after us, had already eaten & were getting to-go boxes & my husband still hadn't gotten his meal. No one checked on us either. I was almost done with my meal when I finally flagged down a waitress. I asked her what happened to my husband's order. She answered: Oh! We were trying to figure out who ordered that Indian Taco..... Are you kidding me?? We got up to pay for my meal and his tea. The owner approached us & explained that it was her fault. She got sidetracked with a catering order. She offered to give us his meal to-go at no extra charge. We declined. It had been sitting there quite a while. She apologized again & I thanked her for her apology. They were pretty busy & training new staff. Then she told us not to pay, the one meal & drink were at no charge & she hoped we would come back. Today I gave them 2 stars. I believe in 2nd chances. We will go back & hopefully I will give them 5 stars next time. read more

Many of us can relate when we go to a Mexican restaurant and order a menudo and the caldo isn't just there. That was not the case here, although there definitely could have been more panzas, it was a better trade to have more flavor than more panzas. The red chile was packed full of flavor and you can order your breakfast combo plates with tortilla or a popover, which is a interesting and welcomed breakfast addition. My personal favorite was the Corned beef and potatoes with egg and beans. Great flavor and my wife said that to her it had the taste of machaca. To top everything off I would recommend to their cinnamon tea. Went in a large group (10) kind of a tight squeeze but a regular family of 4 or 5 would fit comfortably. Service was good but again like the seating probably better with a smaller group than a large one. Definitely would go again. read more

One of my favorite breakfast spots in town! The BEST house-made chorizo and red chile beef, well-cooked eggs, and the creamiest beans. Food is comforting and delicious and the service is superb.
