Caroline is affiliated with the Marriott Element and Aloft hotels and that, I believe, where the affiliation ends. I try to avoid hotel eateries but I've had great dining experiences at hotels like the JW Marriott in Austin. We, four, stopped by on a Sunday AM for breakfast and we had a great time. They do have brunch cocktails available and their bloody Mary's were deemed excellent with just the right amount of spice. My bloody Maria was on point and we all got our Sunday Funday started. Breakfast was wonderful. Our eggs arrived cooked perfectly. The pepper bacon and real potato sides were off the charts delicious.

They also offer a few TexMex breakfast options and Plus one was raving about her Huevos Rancheros plate. Service was excellent even though they became busy our server was very attentive. Pro tip: Sat and Sun AMs if you arrive...

Caroline was a miss for us for dinner downstairs. I'd recommend this place for a drink and an appetizer, but definitely skip the entrees. It's attached to a hotel and it definitely had the feel of 'room service fancy' when it came to the entrees. The waygu beef burger was a perfectly uniform bland patty in a sea of lukewarm fries with two sad slices of roma. The waygu steak wasn't bad, but again, room service fancy feel. The Green Goddess salad looked pretty good but expect to pay extra to add a protein. I did like the ambiance. The waitstaff was helpful and informative. The kitchen and bar took a while, even with just a few tables occupied. When we called to reserve a table, they let me know they couldn't split checks and gratted parties over 6, which I expected but appreciated they communicated it. The website was hard to navigate for me and the Happy Hour available under Caroline isn't actually offered anywhere but upstairs. If you have accessibility issues, note that there aren't any restrooms on the first floor. Be prepared to walk a maze through the restaurant, through the coffee shop and either up 4 switchbacks of stairs to the 2nd floor or to ride the elevator on the hotel side to find one. Overall, if you're planning a trip here, I would check out Caroline Upstairs and hit up the upper deck patio for drinks and appetizers and skip downstairs restaurant. Unless you like lukewarm fries with no seasoning! Then, this is your place

A few friends met up here for breakfast, which we chose due to the cute outdoor space. The patio was definitely cute! However, everything else was super strange. Service was just fine. But they did not have anything except black coffee in terms of coffee drinks... there was no decaf. No lattes. And not even just plain hot water. They said the coffee cafe makes all of the coffee and hot beverages for the restaurant and since the coffee counter was so busy, they could not service any restaurant diners. Super weird! Our food was average. Açaí bowl was fresh and good. The coffee situation was just so weird for breakfast/brunch. Never heard of a restaurant not being able to serve anything but plain black coffee and plain creamer. Also no almond milk, oat milk, etc. Strange!

First time here and loved it! All of our food was delicious and it's the only place I've ever seen with 8 Years in the Desert sold by the glass! Crazy! We got the ahi tacos for the table and they were the perfect bite to get us started. I had the lobster pasta, which was delicious! We also got some yummy desserts including the peanut butter pie. Our server was the sweetest person ever and everyone was generally so nice to us. Great experience!

Caroline was so sweet with excellent service, beautiful ambience, and really really good food. I think we snatched the last table available for dinner and we're glad we did. Really enjoyed my green goddess salad. My partner really loved the burger and the fries. There was an abundance of those. By the way check out my picture. What really stood out to me right away was how friendly the staff was. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly, and since I had a reservation, we were seated immediately. I was here with my niece for lunch, and we started by sharing the spicy deviled eggs and the roasted corn. The deviled eggs were honestly a highlight -- super smooth and creamy, with extra sauces underneath that added a nice kick and tons of flavor. The street corn with tortilla chips was also fun, flavorful, and easy to share. We both ordered burgers with fries. The fries were generous, and while the burger wasn't a huge standout, it was solid and satisfying. Overall, this was a really nice, relaxed spot for a Friday afternoon lunch. One small, interesting note: I went to wash my hands before the meal and learned that the restroom is upstairs (or you can take the elevator) and down a hallway connected to the hotel above the restaurant. I didn't realize the layout at first, so getting there was a bit of an adventure -- not a big deal, just unexpected.

I have mixed feelings about this place. The decor is super nice and great for a date night, but I find the food needs to be updated. I was originally going to order the chicken schnitzel, but after looking at the table next to me and seeing how dry it was I opted for a burger and pasta. The burger was average at best with nothing really standing out, besides the fact that they cook it to your liking. The pasta though was a winner. It had a great sauce that made you want eat more. The mushrooms and tomato sauce made me coming back for forkful after forkful. Unfortunately this wasn't my dish, but in the end I dipped the bread of the burger in the sauce which vastly improved its taste. The service was polished name the waiter came several time to see how we were doing.

This is probably the third time I've been to Caroline's, and while the experience has been consistent, it's been consistently okay. The ambiance is always great, and the service has been solid every time I've visited. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the overall vibe of the place is enjoyable. That said, the food and drinks have never really stood out to me. They're not bad by any means, but they're also not memorable. I've tried most of the appetizers, including the mushroom dish that's always recommended. While the mushroom dish is pretty good, nothing I've had here really screams "amazing," especially considering this is now my third visit. Caroline's is a nice spot to hang out, enjoy the atmosphere, and have decent service, but if you're coming strictly for standout food or drinks, this might not be the place. For me, it's been fine, just not impressive.

Food was decent. I'd say the house potatoes was the star. The marshmallow latte was good but wasn't hot enough. This was after requesting it to be extra hot. Our server was just okay. He checked on us a couple of times. We couldn't get reservations but tried our luck walking in and were able to get a table. I don't think you're missing out if you haven't been here.

Went to Caroline's in Downtown Austin for a team lunch. The place was filling up quickly for lunch but we were shown to our table as soon as we arrived. We had made prior reservations and were running late but they held our table for us. Since it was a workday, I wanted to try a non-alcoholic drink. They just had 1 option on the menu Ladybird Spritz. Though it looked fancy, the drink itself was ok. Was my entree, I had the glazed salmon in Miso. For the price, the dish was just ok. Wasn't a big fan of the food or drinks. The service however was quick and food came out pretty quickly.

Went to Caroline for breakfast and had a pretty disappointing experience. The coffee counter was busy and the seated restaurant was also fairly full, but since I was dining solo I asked to sit at the bar. It has a typical hotel on the go grab a coffee and breakfast feel to the place. I was told I couldn't, which was fine -- but then it took 15 minutes before a server came by to offer a drink or even drop off water. During that time, multiple people were seated at the bar and served quickly, which made the wait even more frustrating. Once my order was taken, the food and drink came out promptly. I ordered a juice and the breakfast burrito. The juice was tasty, but definitely overpriced for what it was. The breakfast burrito, however, was extremely disappointing -- barely any egg, not much chicken sausage, and mostly just a giant wrap. I ended up eating the filling out because every bite was mostly tortilla. The side potatoes were cold, undercooked, and not crispy at all. With the number of good reviews, I expected much better from their brunch. Maybe dinner is stronger here, but based on this experience, I don't think I'd return.

Stopped in for a brunch snack & drink on a Saturday. There was a small wait even for 2 of us. It's cute inside. The burrata appetizer was really good! The only thing was the service was bad--our guy just didn't pay attention to us. Drinks sat at the bar until we asked about them, would not come back or make eye contact even so it was hard to get the check. He definitely took our experience down.

Visited Caroline and overall enjoyed the flavors, but had a few notes. The portions were a bit small, particularly the cauliflower grits, which were tasty but too little for the size of the short rib. The greens were served plain, taking up most of the plate without any sauce such a flavorful dish deserved a bit more thought in presentation. The mahi was full of flavor, but the dish felt like it needed a starch to balance the acidity. The burrata with pesto and tomatoes was delicious, but pairing it with store bread didn't feel right. The multigrain bread was tasty, but I'd prefer fresh, bakery-quality bread instead. Overall, great flavors and the experience, but the plating and portion choices could use a bit of refinement.

Great brunch. Had the corn dip which was interesting, tasty, and not too heavy as it's not cheesy or creamy. Then had the egg white omelette - very good, standard dish. Nephew ordered the huevos rancheros and loved it. Good atmosphere and good menu! Only downside was soda fountains were messed up and not functioning properly so they were all watered down and tasteless. Would definitely go back if staying at the Aloft or in the area. read more

The menu has a lot of good diversity, the corn fritter Benedict was calling my name. The corn and tomato salsa/relish was so fresh and good. Cool bistro in downtown Austin. Excellent food and service. The portions are generous so come hungry or stick to the snacks. Our exemplary server was Carly. She recommended a dish that came with "fluffy cauliflower pilaf". I ended up ordering something else, (Chicken schnitzel, very good. Love the veggies and a lemon squeeze really is all you need. It's a much lighter dish that you would expect) but the level of fluffiness that Carly espoused was not to be denied. We ordered a side to gauge the fluff level for ourselves. As promised It was hella-fluffy. We were not disappointed. Menu suggestion... serve the schnitzel on a pillow of this amazingly fluffy pilaf. I had breakfast here with my family and it was kind of disappointing. The coffee was terrible, which was surprising. Our server was competent but unfriendly. The breakfast potatoes were cooked just right but were way too salty. On the flip side the eggs, toast and the yogurt with berries were good. The restaurant itself has a nice aesthetic, great ambience. I just think the food could be a lot better. read more

First off let me say I loved the food and atmosphere. That's as far As my positivity goes with my experience here. Our server was a middle aged Indian woman and she could not have been more rude to our table. She was very socially awkward and was very rude to all of us. She was extremely rude, rolled her eyes at us when we asked her questions about the menu. We felt like we were bothering her the entire time and the experience was very unpleasant. Fun restaurant in downtown Austin. Can eat at the restaurant with great options, including healthy, and get drinks upstairs afterwards or before. Reasonable priced drinks and food and always good. Great Burger, Disappointing Steak, and Mixed Service Experience I had a fantastic burger--sweet, savory, and cooked to perfection. I would definitely order it again. However, the steak was just okay. It came with an interesting chimichurri sauce made with fresh ingredients, which was a pleasant surprise, but overall, the dish didn't impress me. The fries were decent, though there was a noticeable flavor from the oil that was carried across both plates at our table. If you're not a fan of ketchup, they offer a chipotle ranch for dipping. The restaurant itself is comfortable, calm, and quiet enough for conversation. Both the host and bartender were helpful and polite, which added to the pleasant atmosphere. Service Experience: Unfortunately, we did not have a great service experience with our particular server. However, I noticed good service happening around us, so I believe this was an isolated issue. When I brought my concerns to the manager, she was gracious and made an effort to make things right, which was unexpected but appreciated. I simply didn't want to continue interacting with that server. That said, if something goes wrong during your visit, you can feel confident that management will try to improve your experience. Pricing & Discounts: - The burger meal was $21, and the steak meal was $40, both without drinks. Given the location--inside a hotel in the heart of downtown Austin--these prices seemed reasonable. - You can get a discount here if you see a show at the Paramount. - I also booked a package through Element Hotel, which gave us discounts on meals at the hotel and its associated businesses. The valet, hotel staff, housekeeping, and even the gentleman making eggs at breakfast the next day were fantastic. Mixed Experience at Caroline Restaurant I recently visited Caroline Restaurant and had a mixed experience that left me disappointed. While the carb and artichoke dip was delicious, there were several aspects of the meal that fell short of my expectations. First, let's start with the positive. The carb and artichoke dip was absolutely delicious. The combination of flavors was on point, and it was a great way to start the meal. However, the accompanying chips lacked freshness. They were not as crisp as I would have liked, which took away from the overall enjoyment of the dip. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when I ordered the chicken enchiladas. They were absolutely horrible. The chicken was incredibly dry, and the tortillas were hard and chewy. It was evident that the dish had been sitting for a while before being served, which greatly affected the taste and texture. I cannot recommend the chicken enchiladas based on this experience. To make matters worse, we were seated in the bar serving area, where the service was subpar. I had to constantly flag down different waiters to get their attention and request assistance. It was quite frustrating and took away from the overall dining experience. Additionally, when I asked to exchange the chicken enchiladas, the staff didn't inquire about the reason behind my dissatisfaction, which was a bit strange. I recently had the pleasure of indulging in a delightful weekday brunch at Caroline Restaurant, and I simply couldn't wait to share my experience with you all. Arriving at 9am with my party, we were pleasantly surprised to find there wasn't much of a line. The staff kindly informed us that they prefer the majority of the group to have arrived before seating, but this was not an issue for us. Despite the restaurant being reasonably busy, the service was impeccable. Our attentive server ensured we were well taken care of throughout our meal. In fact, our entire brunch experience lasted just under 50 minutes, which made it perfect for a quick catch-up with co-workers. One of the standout beverages was the Berry Basil Smoothie. This refreshing concoction combined blueberries, strawberries, basil, banana, agave, coconut milk, acai, pomegranate, and lime juice into a harmonious blend. Not too sweet, very healthy, and easy to drink, it struck the perfect balance between indulgence and nutrition. The smoothie had a pleasing consistency as well, not too thick, which made it easy to sip and savor. As for the main course, I opted for the Sweet Corn Cake Benedict. This dish featured a unique jalapeño cheddar corn cake base, topped with creamy avocado, fresh tomato and corn salsa, and of course, perfectly poached benedict eggs. If you're into patio games and want a casual yet vibrant atmosphere, this spot should be on your radar. The Space: The rooftop setting provides a fantastic view of downtown Austin, and the layout is spacious enough to not feel cramped. The atmosphere is lively but not obnoxious--just the right balance for a weekend outing or even a casual weeknight drink. Games: The giant Jenga and Corn Hole games were great fun and a huge draw for my group. It's not every day that you get to play life-size board games while sipping on cocktails! Food & Drinks: The food is what you would expect from a bar and grill--good, but not mind-blowing. The drinks, however, were a different story. Their signature cocktails are inventive and well-balanced. Definitely try one of their seasonal concoctions if you're in the mood for something unique. TVs & Sports: What I especially liked was the abundance of TVs. We didn't have to fight for a good angle to watch the game, which is a common issue in many sports bars. My family and I recently took a quick vacation to Austin this past week. We had the pleasure staying at the Element Hotel and had no clue that this restaurant was on the first level of the hotel. This restaurant is fantastic! The pastry case is directly to the right of the front doors of the hotel. It's not easy as parents to keep your little ones away from those decadent treats! Last Saturday we stopped by the Coffeehouse after a nice dinner at Caroline. Dallis, our host was very friendly, and quick to get us a high chair for our youngest! Liz was our server and she was absolutely amazing! Friendly, on top of things, and great with our kiddos. We stopped at the Coffeehouse afterwards to grab a few treats to enjoy back up in the room. We were greeted by Bri who made our kids feel very welcome, and answered all of their questions about the pastries. She made three of them some hot chocolates, and my wife and I got an Irish coffee and their seasonal Rose Mocha Latte, absolutely delicious. Our kids grabbed the birthday cake cookie, a chocolate chip cookie and a cinnamon roll probably as big as our youngest's face. These pastries were absolutely wonderful, and Bri was very patient and you could tell she loved doing what she does! That night definitely made our stay at the Element so much better! We will definitely be staying here when we come back to Austin! read more

We stumbled upon this place while we were in town for a convention. We wanted a quick snack and maybe a few drinks before we continued on our afternoon of exploring. The restaurant was fairly slow at this time, mid afternoon, to be expected in my opinion. We sat at the bar and was immediately greeted with water and a smile. The bartender Brie(?) gave us a few recommendations on some great cocktails and beer. Unfortunately the beer my husband wanted was out, something to do with their tap so he opted for the Fire Eagle IPA, local, and he said very tasty. I chose the Flight of the Concord cocktail, it had gin and a raspberry liquor, and some other stuff I assume. It was one of the best cocktails I've ever had! As for snacks we got the Spicy Deviled Eggs and the Roasted Sweet Corn Dip. The eggs were the perfect amount of spicy and the corn dip was one of the best dips I've had in Austin! Our server recommended we grab a pastry for the road and we got the Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookie -- to die for and the Chocolate Zucchini Bread -- also to die for! Being from the south, I've had a lot of deviled eggs in my lifetime, and I can confidently say that Caroline's are the best I've ever had. But I think they were even better because of who served them to me. The ONE AND ONLY YANETT. Beautiful, gorgeous, never been done before. A tale as old as time. Yanett made great recommendations and was nice enough to let me sample a few wines to see what which one would pair well with my dinner. I got the Mahi Al Pastor and a white wine whose name I can't remember, but the amount of flavor packed in the food was so refreshing, as some southern food can be so heavy or portions can be too big. Prices are fair and atmosphere is cozy and cohesive. I didn't have time for a dessert because I was in a bit of a hurry, but I'm sure they're amazing. When I'm back in Austin, I will definitely come back, and it looks like there's a rooftop bar above it with great views?? A must-see in Austin. A tale as old as time. read more

This definitely fits the "meh." I came here for coffee, and experienced probably the most confusing, just overall odd atmosphere. There's 3 (or 4?) different concepts from a bar, restaurant, coffee shop, and whatever the heck else there is. I had my laptop and wanted to get some work done. I walk in, and it was like a restaurant. But they said to sit wherever. But I had a server. But the coffee bar was "in the back," when food was being served up front. Whatever... I opted for a salad. A $15 salad. What. The. Heck. Maybe this place moved in from LA or what have you, but it's not for me. Obviously it's for some. Obviously it's for people who feel a need to spend too much money eating out rather than living. But opinions are opinions. If you like the overpriced, bad service kind of place, go here! If you want just a coffee and to get some work done, there are better places around within walking distance. read more

My husband and I were visiting Austin this past week and got the chance to check out Caroline! We sat in the bar area this past Sunday and had the pleasure of Breanna waiting on us! She was very attentive, our drinks were great and the food was awesome! I had the huevos rancheros and it was the best I've had in Austin! My husband had the Eggs Your Way and those potatoes are to die for as well as the peppered bacon! I had the Three Orange Mimosa which had a liquor (I can't remember the name) in addition to the Champagne! Definitely Boozy! My husband loved the BBQ Bacon Bloody Mary, again, their bacon is amazing! If we ever make it back to Austin we will definitely be back at Caroline and we hope that Breanna is working again! It's a must in Austin and Breanna sure knows what she's doing! read more

The place was amazing! We opted for outdoor seating due to my dog, but next time I'll try to aim for indoors without my furry companion! The waiter was exceptionally friendly, and the food was simply delightful. I ordered the wild mushroom bolognese, and I polished off every last bite! Despite not being a big fan of mushrooms, I was pleasantly surprised by the texture and flavor of this dish - it was really good! However, I do suggest sitting indoors for a more enjoyable experience due to the outdoor surroundings of Caroline. Unfortunately, we smelled cigarettes most of the time, which was rather off-putting. When I asked about the free Mimosas ..plural.....as advertised....we found out that you could not have the free Mimosa....singlar...read the miss leading print....only up stairs. when asked about the advertising..the host responds..."we have to get people into here some How" I was not the only one who heard this....the people next to me ordered the same item and was equally disappointed and did not finish their meal. I was absolutely thrilled with my experience here. My girl friends and I were planning to surprise our friend to who lives in Austin for her birthday and we had several logistics to juggle. Caroline was the most accommodating. We had special instructions for the host to show our friend to our table under a fake reservation name and that went perfectly. We were on our way in town and we were having a giant balloon delivered. They held it for us because the delivery came early. We even brought a fun cake and our server, Sarah, offered to chill it for us! Seriously the best customer service experience I've had in a long time. With all our logistics pulling off this surprise could've been a nightmare but they made it so easy. Bonus: the food is amazing. read more

Went here for brunch on a Sunday with a couple friends and we really enjoyed our meal! I had the chicken and waffles which tasted awesome! A little light on the chicken but a good size for me. Atmosphere is very cool. Very urban and modern. You have to take the elevator upstairs to use the restroom but that's no big deal, at least for me. I mention this because on my way to use said restroom they have another area of the store with a case full of sweets and goodies that looked amazing. I was full from brunch but I'll definitely have to scope that case out again next time. I'll come back again maybe for a different meal next time. Overall experience was great. I'm in town for a work conference and I am actually staying at the Aloft/Element Hotel which Caroline is in. I stopped by every morning to grab either coffee & a pastry or breakfast. The Coffee House is amazing. All of their pastries are baked in house every morning and they use a local Coffee Roaster! Their breakfast is the best I've had in quite some time! (How do you get your Egg White Omelet so dang fluffy?) Anyways, today was my last day in town and Breanna was very attentive this morning! She seemed to be busy with other tables, but never made me seem rushed or flustered! She never let me coffee cup run empty, and even if I wanted a cup to go! Last night we had a lovely dining experience at Caroline. We were celebrating a birthday and a new job and wanted to go somewhere downtown new. Caroline was recommended and we were not disappointed. The food was great but our server Sarah made the night even more special. Her service was exceptional...did not hover, always there to answer questions and even changed out a glass of wine that one in our party did not like. The atmosphere is vibrant and we continued our celebration upstairs in the "Party"room where you will find an enclosed area with game tables and a lovely rooftop area with heaters on a chilly night! We had a fantastic Saturday birthday brunch! It was our first time here, and we stumbled upon it during a scavenger hunt. They were able to immediately accommodate our party of 10. The service was excellent, and the corn dip was delicious, like elotes in a bowl. My 6-year-old loved the fresh fruit and toasted marshmallow (decaf) coffee drink, and I finished my iced mocha before I could take a photo!
