To go Mai Tais

Great quick place to eat or grab food/drinks to-go when at the nearby beach. Service was great and to go orders were pretty quick. It was a little tricky finding this place if you are coming from the beach area but there was plenty of people around to ask how to get there. Would absolutely come back!

Paniolo Breakfast

This was one of our favorite places to have breakfast on our trip. Paniolo Breakfast 2 eggs any style; choice of bacon, link sausage, spam or portuguese sausage; choice of roasted potatoes or white rice; choice of toast . Spam was delicious. It was sliced then and heated to perfection. Macadamia nut pancakes were delicious. Pancakes were served in a generous portion almost could not finish. Crabcakes egg Benedict were super rich and filling. Love the potatoes served with breakfast. Plenty of potatoes came with your breakfast. They were small potatoes cut in half. To eat them you had to cut them in half again they were great. The views of the other islands and the ocean was amazing.

Came for breakfast and hung out at the bar for a few hours. Rikki tending the bar was so friendly and fun to talk to. Absolutely loved hanging out with her and the others surrounding the bar. My eggs Benedict was really good but could have came out warmer. I was having too much fun chatting with everyone at the bar that I wasn't going to bother mentioning it. Great view if you sit at a table close to the water. Enjoyed the mimosas and mai-tais. I'll be back!

Castaway Cafe in Lahaina was such a beautiful dining experience and definitely one of the highlights of our trip. First off, the setting is absolutely breathtaking. Being able to sit right by the water and watch whales from our table was unreal -- one of those moments you just can't plan, and it made the whole experience feel extra special. The service was top notch from start to finish. Everyone was warm, attentive, and really made us feel taken care of without being overbearing. For food, I had the short rib loco moco, which was rich, flavorful, and super satisfying. My husband went with the traditional loco moco, and my son had the short rib benedict -- both were really good and full of flavor. The kids had the pancakes and had zero complaints (which is always a win) That said, I would absolutely come back. Between the incredible views, whale watching, and amazing service, it's 100% worth the visit.

Kamehameha omelet

I've been going to Castaway Cafe for years and I can't believe I've never written a review. They are located in the Maui Ka'anapali Villas area. If you are lucky enough to sit on the ocean facing patio, you'll enjoy stunning views with amazing food and friendly service to match. I wanted to try something different so we went with the Kamehameha omelet and the Homemade Sweet Bread French Toast. My usual order is their Loco Moco and it's amazing!

Portuguese sausage / eggs / toast / potatoes!

This review is long overdue! In our recent travels to Mauí, we found some pretty amazing brunch spots. Castaway Cafe is a hidden gem located in the Mauí Kaanapali Villas. It is a casual, beachfront restaurant that serves some of the best brunch food and cocktails on the island. Like most brunch spots in Hawaii, they're known for their classic Hawaiian dishes, like loco moco, fish tacos and fresh seafood. I am more of a hearty breakfast eater, so I settled for their portuguese sausage, eggs, potatoes and toast. My family enjoyed the banana pineapple pancakes and fresh fruit. But the real highlight of our dining experience was the banana bread! That is an absolute must! Overall, service was great, and the prices were reasonable! The open air atmosphere makes for a wonderful place to have brunch with your family! We will definitely be back!

Braised Short Ribs

The view was exceptional, the restaurant itself needs a little TLC. the waiter we had was attentive and friendly. The food was just ok. I had the short rib with mashed potatoes and carrots. The Demi glaze was really good and super flavorful. The short rib was tender but lacked flavor and was a bit fatty. My sister had the half chicken and she said that was good. My husband had the stir fry with chicken and it looked plain. Not to sure I would go back to this spot.

Good place for breakfast. It's located inside a hotel property. Not noticeable from the parking lot. It requires a good 150 yard walk in. Nice atmosphere here. We had coffee and the wife had avocado toast. She said it was good. I had the eggs bennedict. It was good. Definitely recommend for the food and the atmosphere.

Amazing locomoco with short ribs and the pork and cabbage! really chill spot. Two whales were playing nearby. spouting and breaching. Even the staff were engrossed! Staff is very friendly and great service!

Outdoor dining during sunset.

This is a surprise little restaurant right on the water. Looks like it's been there for awhile, so it gave us a bit of an old school look. Definitely not flashy or loud. Just a great place to have lunch or dinner in a calm environment. We sat out doors and watched the sunset. Beautiful place to be! It wasn't very busy, so our waitress was very attentive to our needs (not that we are generally needy). Our party of four had two fish & chips and the other two, the fish of the day, a lovely Butterfish. I've never had it or even heard of it, but it was the BEST! The sauce over the fish just enhanced the flavors. Overall highly recommended for a nice dinner in a quiet space.

Castaway Fish Tacos

Best mahi tacos! I opted to not have pico and cilantro salsa as I'm not a fan but these mahi tacos did not need them. So flavorful and delicious! My husband got the short rib loco moco and he raved about it. The chips were homemade. Beautiful views and great hospitality from the staff. We even had a bird sing to us from the tree above. We will definitely go back while at that beach. So good!!

Breakfast menu

Price- affordable (for the area) We had Eggs Benedict and it was fantastic. The home style red potatoes are cooked to perfecting and kinda rustic. The ham (on the benidict) was thick and meaty. The hollandaise sauce was thick and flavorful, eggs cooked perfectly. The people next to us had a breakfast burrito and it was big enough for 2 people. Overall I would return for another breakfast.

Banana Bread with Lilliokoa Butter
Jon N.

We really loved this little hidden gem! We dined for breakfast, but they do lunch and dinner until 8 pm. Sweet spot with ample seating, excellent service from server Jamie, and the entire team. Coffee was delicious, as was the house special Banana Bread with liliokoa butter. I loved my Short Rib Benedict substituted fruit instead of the delicious potatoes. My wife was very happy with her massive Breakfast Burrito. We will definitely return whenever possible.

The restaurant was clean, spacious, and able to accommodate our party comfortably. For food, we ordered the make-your-own pancakes for the kids, the loco moco, and the Hawaiian pancakes. The loco moco was good overall, although the hamburger patty tasted more like a premade patty than a fresh, house-made one. The Hawaiian pancakes were tasty, but they were fairly similar to standard diner pancakes. I was hoping for more nuts folded into the batter to give them a little more texture and flavor. If you're looking for authentic Hawaiian food or strong Hawaiian flavors, this probably isn't the place. The dishes we tried felt more like standard diner fare with a Hawaiian-inspired twist rather than traditional Hawaiian cuisine. Our server, Juan, provided mediocre service. He didn't check on our table very often, and when there was a mix-up with one of our orders, he came across as slightly rude rather than helpful. The experience wasn't terrible, but the service definitely left room for improvement. Overall, the restaurant was clean and accommodating for large groups, the food was decent, and with more attentive service, the experience could have been much better.

It's those personal touches that make a dining experience truly special. As for the food, everyone in our group ordered something different and loved their meals, but the standout favorites were definitely on my plate. The homemade corned beef hash was phenomenal, and the side of biscuits was incredibly memorable--perfectly baked and delicious. Between the fantastic service, friendly conversation, and top-tier breakfast comfort food, this is a must-visit spot in Lahaina. We started with some clams, and for that price you only got like 6 clams. Knowing that now I would skip! Stick with just a salad and entree. We got the Caesar salad, it was pretty good. My entree was the ahi tuna slightly seared. This restaurant is one of the only places I know that can cook an ahi tuna right. Other places we've been too tends to overcook it. Hula grill got it right. It was delicious. My husband got the Mac nut fish, and he said it was ok. He said it needed a better beurre Blanc sauce. Maybe with some citrus. It lacked flavor. But the best thing here was the kids menu. When we went they had a $20 petite filet with mash potatoes. It was perfectly cooked. My 2 year old ate ALL 4oz of the filet! It was that good.
