    Lobster salad roll with fries
    Lisa W.

This was my first time here at Champlin's and it most certainly won't be the last!! Definitely not a fancy place; it is right on the water, complete with a view! When you go, you are in a line to order from a window, are given a buzzer, and pick up your tray when it's ready. While waiting for our food, we found a seat with a great view. Picnic table- like tables made of Trek, so no splinters, large tables for big parties and smaller tables for 2 or 4 people. There is also a bar serving your favorite adult beverages. There is an outdoor bar and seating as well. Very casual.... Wear your bathing suit if you choose! The food.... I had what they called a Lobster salad roll, with French fries, but it was not what I expected. The chunks of lobster and very little, if any, mayo. My roll was a little dry, but I was so excited and hungry to eat the lobster salad roll, it didn't matter!! My husband had the fried scallop dinner, which he loved. He had about 15 scallops with his French fries. The red chowder and Portuguese stuffies were also delicious. Most of the seafood is priced daily to market prices, but, man, we didn't even care since we felt it was all worth it! Three days later, and I can still taste that Lobster salad roll! We will definitely be back, but during the week. It can get very busy, and we've seen very long lines here. It's important to note they are open year round!

Ordered a quart of steamed clams, the bigger ones, pretty tasty, except there was sand in them , they should take the time to flush them out again. Coconut shrimp was good. tuna steak, medium rare very good. A bit pricey but authentic.

Twin lobsters. Amazing and cooked perfectly.

I've been going to Champlin's off and on since the early 90's. A few years ago I waited in a huge line only to get the worst fried clams of my life. The oil had gone bad and that is a disaster for fried seafood. So I boycotted for a few years. Well. I gave them another shot. This time, it was unbelievably good! The twin lobsters were cooked perfectly and were soft shells and sweet. The fried scallops were amazing as well. Even the coleslaw slaw and tarter sauce were out of this world. Everyone can have a bad day and everyone deserves a second chance. I WILL be back!

The perfect fried seafood spot off the beaten path, Much quieter and less crowded than Newport. We all loved meals and enjoyed a Naragassent local brew. Maybe it's the sounds of seagulls, the warm sun shining on you, and the cool sea breeze to cool you down from the harbor that makes this the perfect lunch spot. After lunch we went downstairs for homemade ice cream and took a walk on the pier to see the beach. I could have stayed all day, but our adventure to Newport

Nice restaurant serving fair food at best. Why does it seem the closer you get to a location like Galilee the worst the food gets? Meal look like cafeteria food, not what you would expect for $20. There was nothing to write home about. It was good, it was not horrible but unfortunately I would not recommend. I must add that the woman who took our order was top notch. Very pleasant and helpful.

It was so garlicky that I thought it must have been a mistake. The meatballs had whole cloves in them. I LOVE garlic but I couldn't eat the sandwich as it was overpowering. However, Wakefield is lacking in a good Italian place and I did think this may have been a mistake, so I gave it another try. It also helped that they have $.50 wings on Monday. I ordered 8 buffalo wings and rigatoni & meatballs. Well I was pleasantly surprised. The wings were excellent. I think they make their own buffalo sauce and i detected that they used butter (which is always a good thing). Not too hot but a kick. The pasta and meatballs were good. The sauce was not my favorite but that is a matter of taste. The price was a bit high but not outrageous. The service was a little slow, but I suspect that was my server as she never seemed to be on the floor, while the other 2 were very visible. All in all, a nice experience.

Will return for the smash burger, and to see Elizabeth's smile. Even the music in there is good Highly recommended!

Upon our 5:30 p.m. arrival, my wife and I were immediately seated in the far corner of the outdoor patio. From the beginning, the host's demeanor came across as cold and dismissive. When she told us to "enjoy," her tone made it clear she didn't mean what she said. When our waitress arrived, she wanted to explain what the daily specials were, but before she began, we politely asked if we could move to another section of the patio so we could sit in the sun. After speaking with the host, she returned with what I can only describe as a smart-ass attitude, saying, "Those tables are for people who actually have reservations." We completely understood if those tables were reserved, but there was absolutely no reason for the condescending attitude. Instead, we were moved to another corner table, and after the host decided to tell us "enjoy" with the same condescending tone. Once we sat down, I asked the waitress if she could explain the daily specials, but then she quickly replied, "now that we're at a different table, the other waitress/waiter will have to do that" since it wasn't her "zone". As we sat there, we couldn't help but notice what appeared to be a noticeable difference in how other guests were treated. The tables that gave off what I would describe as a more "upper class" appearance, well-dressed white guests who appeared more affluent, seemed to receive a warmer welcome and far more attentive service. Whether that was intentional or not, we couldn't shake the feeling that we were viewed differently. I'm white myself, but perhaps my tattoos or the fact that I was dining with my Brazilian wife caused us to be perceived differently. I honestly don't know. What I do know is that we left feeling like we didn't fit the restaurant's idea of its preferred clientele. For example, our waitress never offered us the option of tap or bottled water, while nearby "upper class" tables were given that choice. Around 6:10 p.m., we ordered appetizers, which took roughly 20 minutes to arrive, while tables seated after us were already receiving their food. We then placed our entrée orders and waited... and waited... and waited. In addition, we found a hair in the salad that we ordered, and when we brought it up to the waitress, her only answer was "that's impossible, everyone in the kitchen wears hairnets... At approximately 6:40 p.m., the hostess came to our table and explained there had been a "mix-up" because we had switched tables, causing our entrée order to be delayed. That explanation made very little sense. How does simply switching tables result in an order being delayed by that much? It pointed to a serious lack of communication between the front of the house and the kitchen. By approximately 6:50 p.m., I believe a manager came to our table and asked if there was anything he could do. At that point, I bluntly asked for the check because waiting well over an hour for our food was simply unacceptable. Ironically, our entrées finally arrived around 7:00 p.m., but by then we had completely lost our appetite. I sent the food back and again requested the check. Even then, it still took another 10 minutes to receive it. To the hostess's credit, she apologized, and I told her I appreciated the apology. However, I also explained that this restaurant clearly has a major communication problem. More importantly, the dismissive attitude we experienced from the moment we walked in set the tone for the entire evening and left us feeling unwelcome. In a nutshell: We waited an hour and a half for our food we never received, we were mistreated, felt discriminated, and there were still PLENTY of open tables in the patio facing the sun. This was our first visit to Narragansett, and unfortunately it was not the welcome we expected. I didn't even bother asking if the restaurant offered a military discount because, by that point, I already felt like we didn't belong. We will NEVER return.

Let me paint the scene for you: I walked in with the noble goal of ordering a simple broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl nothing outrageous. As I approached the counter, the cashier didn't greet me. Instead, she glared at me like I had personally insulted her grandmother. I asked, politely, if they were still serving soup. Her response? A single word "Obviously" followed by the slowest, most exaggerated eye roll I've ever witnessed outside of a soap opera. But it didn't stop there. I ordered a green tea. The barista threw the cup on the counter so hard it bounced, and when I asked if I could please have a lid, she sighed like I'd asked her to rewrite the Magna Carta. Another staff member nearby whispered under her breath, "He looks like a lid kinda guy," followed by laughter. What does that even mean? Then brace yourself my buzzer went off, so I went up to grab my food. The manager, who looked like she was on her third existential crisis of the morning, yeeted the entire tray onto the pickup counter and yelled, "WHO ORDERED THE BASIC?" Everyone turned to look. I was the only one there. The sandwich was wrong, the soup was cold, and the bread bowl looked like it had been hollowed out by a raccoon with anger issues. When I politely asked for a new one, they handed me a raw baguette and told me to "figure it out." As I sat down, a toddler from the next table looked me in the eye and said, "You should've gone to Chipotle." I did. And it was glorious. Never again, Panera on Old Tower Hill Rd. Never. Again.
