Can't believe I've missed this place having been eating in the SGV for so long. The menu is extensive and it seems a pretty popular place for the locals with lots of regulars and take out orders. Service was quick and efficient and the workers all tried their best to handle a full house and tons of take out orders. Looking at the menu it also seems very vegetarian friendly with many options that seems to denote it can be made without meat. All the portions are large and for the price, I think it is a pretty good deal. Omelette Veggie Rice - It's a cute presentation with the egg wrapped around the rice and it was also pretty flavorful for what one might expect with veggie rice. It has snow cabbage and tiny pieces of ham (so if you want vegetarian make sure you tell them to omit it). Shanghai Fried Rice Cakes - the rice cakes were softer than I've experienced with this dish in other places - actually a little too soft for my preference but the older people at the table liked that. Snow Cabbage with Peas and Bean Sheets - Very good. Lots of delicate thin sheets of soy. The "peas" are actually edamame which is actually better because I hate peas. Shanghai Little Ribs - As the name says, this dish was in fact full of little ribs. I think that denotes the baby back ribs which are smaller than the regular pork ribs. It was prepared well with a flash fried crispiness on the outside and a coating of sticky sweet and tangy sauce. The taste of the vinegar was well balanced - unlike the tendency to over-sweeten in many other iterations of this dish in other places. I would definitely come back to try more dishes. Their fried fish with seaweed looked particularly popular. read more

Highly recommend for Shanghainese dishes. It's quite authentic and it's hard to find this kind of high quality Shanghainese food. Everything was good. But the dish that you have to order is the Tung Po Pork Belly. It's cooked to perfection and you can tell that they slow cooked all the oil out of it. Hence when you eat it, it doesn't feel too rich and greasy. Another authentic must-order is the sweet lotus root stuffed with glutinous rice. This is a very unique Shanghainese dish and they make it very well here. It's served as an appetizer, not a dessert. Parking is convenient and service is good too. read more

The Chinese eel dish tasted the right way, very authentic even you can easily tell it was made with frozen eels.You cannot complain cuz it is hard to find fresh eel here. The food was clearly not fresh. After dining there last night, our entire family suffered from diarrhea. Absolutely unacceptable.

I ordered the hot and sour soup, Buddhist Delight, and Szechwan tan tan noodles for pick-up on 1/8/22. The soup here is great--flavorful and hits the spot for cravings. The tan tan noodles are dry, but only because they do not come with enough sauce for the amount of noodles packed in. The Buddhist Delight hits the flavor but misses in texture; mine was mushy from overcooking. Had the crispness of the vegetables been preserved just a little, this dish would've been amazing. Overall, I didn't have a bad experience here, and I'd be open to returning since I've only tried three items from a very extensive menu. Service is fast and easy. Definitely not a bad option for homestyle Chinese food! read more

I've come here a few times with my parents, usually for lunch. Chang's Garden is known as being Shanghainese and Taiwanese style cuisine, but it appeals significantly to my Cantonese palate. I like to come here for lunch because of their lunch specials which come with soup and rice. I really loved their fish filet with hot bean sauce, that's one of my favorite things on their lunch menu. Their beef scallion pancake is also very popular, and quite good, among the best that I've had. They have a rotating seasonal menu, which I find to be pretty unique for this style of restaurant, which already has a very expansive menu. Chang's Garden's cooking also has a very unique type of home cooking, comfort food vibe to it, that I don't experience at bigger restaurants like 888 and Newport Seafood. Sometimes the bigger restaurants tend to have overpowering flavors, but Chang's is good at having flavor with balance. Balance is very important, and I'm happy Chang's Garden does not have heavy/overpowering flavors. The service is exceptional, and the waiters are always attentive to your needs. It's a small restaurant, but Chang's Garden is definitely one of the best restaurants for Shanghai/Taiwanese/Cantonese cuisine in the area. read more

Along with the price being very reasonable especially being in Arcadia. I feel like the food comes out quicker than other Chinese restaurants while still being freshly cooked. I have too many go to orders at Changs Garden. I really like the egg and shrimp despite being a simple dish. The kung pao chicken here is one of the top kung pao chickens i've had so please give that one a try. the sweet short ribs are also really good. The seaweed fish is a top top for me. This place has been a favorite of our extended family and we have been coming back here for years. Whether it's for a casual lunch or a dinner to celebrate a special occasion, Chang's Garden always delivers for us. Their service is attentive and friendly. I especially appreciate the extra care they provide to my parents. As others have noted, they have a great range of Chinese dishes and there are too many favorites for me to list...I would only add that they also have some wonderful (and comforting) desserts! Haven't visited this place for a while, it was one of my grandpa's fav. chinese restaurant. I am super happy that the pancakes still taste the same! we ordered both the original green onion pancakes and the string bean pancakes. Also tried some new items, the Dragonfruit with sweet corn is sooo refreshing and yummy, love love the creation and the sweet riceballs in the mix, such a creative dish. The spicy fish is surprisingly yummy too, the fish is tender with a kick. The sizzling rice cracker with tomato chicken soup is pretty unique, it tasted like western tomato soup then you added some Asian rice cracker to the mix. overall, a wonderful dining experience, will definitely come back for more pancakes and try more new creative dishes. read more

We came here for dinner because they not only have good food, but also particularly they have a very nice outdoor patio for outdoor seating/outdoor dining! It's covered and heated! This place is an institution. I wish I knew about it earlier for all the outdoor dining I've been searching for. The food was delicious: San bei Ji / 3 cup chicken, fish soup, snow pea and bai ye vegetables with bean curd is a tasty way to get my greens in. Service was also great. Even outdoors. You're sitting next to a giant window of the restaurant so staff can see you if you need their attention if you're sitting outside. A couple of warnings: - 3 cup chicken: careful if feeding to kids. There are lots of small broken bones in the dish. When the chicken gets chopped, the bones don't fracture neatly. Every other bite of mine had a tiny bone I had to pick out of my mouth. Dish also has a nice chili kick to it. Still so good over rice. - outdoor heater: this appears to be on a timer. So we kept getting timed out and realized only because it got cold. While scrolling, my eyes fell upon a plate of chili wontons from somewhere in Arcadia I've never been. I'm always on the hunt for chili wontons that will top the ones by my work in Claremont, so far none have done so, they are either too hot, or the sauce is too chunky and not liquidy enough. These were liquidy just how I like it and the heat was tolerable! Not only that but they mustve been fresh as heck! The dough was SO soft. The lady on the phone and in person was very nice. I even made requests, like not to add salt to one of the dishes and they obliged. As soon as I brought the food home, everyone dug right in! Had a nice luncheon here after attending a baptism nearby. We had about 4 tables reserved for the family & friends of the celebrant. Chang's Garden has a semi-private room but our party actually had more people than that room could fit. We had won ton soup for starters which had good flavor. Good amount of meat inside the won ton along with various vegetables. We also had the house special chow mein noodles which was good and came with plenty of chicken, mushrooms and vegetables. We also had xiao long bao or soup dumplings which were pretty good. They had a good broth inside the dumpling and was perfect with the sesame vinegar dipping sauce. We also had sauteed green beans. That was very good. That dish never disappoints. The sweet and sour pork was very good. I really liked their version of the Chinese restaurant standard. Lastly we had fried fish in a light batter which was also very tasty... It was a flaky white fish but at that point we were so full that we could hardly eat any. Service was good. The ladies were friendly and management was super nice. My friend, whose daighter was baptized had to give a little speech to thank everyone that made it to the ceremony and reception. The options for delivery for this place don't even show half the menu. So we had to call in to do take out. We for shrimp fried rice, which was good. Snow cabbage rice cakes, which was delicious. And the surprise was the eight treasure rice pudding that was huge! But it was extremely good. While it sucks we can't do delivery, we'd still gladly do take out again as it only took 20mins to be ready. read more

My family and I order from here almost weekly. Today I called in an order and when I went to pick it up, they had my order incorrect. No problem. As I'm about to make my payment using Apple Pay, a server (tall guy with ponytail) walks behind me says "if you have a card, you should pay with the card." Erm, how about YOU should have some manners to a customer? I should not have to pay with anything if Apple Pay is an option. I offered to pay with my card when I realized it would save some trouble for the nice lady who was attending me to not have to boot up their Apple Pay system. Love their lunch specials! My husband and I really love their Szechwan Special and my toddler son really loves their bamboo (both dishes I'd ask for no meat because they're vegetarians). Sometimes, we would order up to 3 times a week! I only ate at the restaurant once and all other times I would order pick-up. The staff are always very friendly and nice to me when I go pick-up.
