It was good, but more novelty than anything else. The meat is cut thin and frozen making it hard to pack the bowl. The veggies sauces should be first to prevent contamination, then meat, and then noodles. I did get a lot but just going through the lie I felt ridiculous piling so much in the bowl while also not trying to have anything fall out or make a mess. Lunch came with a bowl of wonton chips and sweet and sour, rice, and soup. I can't imagine what AYCE is like because I was pretty full from one bowl. The frozen shaved meat just isn't very good though, and it's over $10 to eat lunch so I'm not sure how it's been rated with 1 $. read more

I love the fact that this restaurant feels like home every time I go. Unlike most every other business they always keep the same staff and they are always incredibly kind and efficient. After going so much they remember my face and always greet me as if we are friends. And it doesn't hurt that the food is grade A every single time! Decided to try this place as hubby asked we go to a new mongolian bbq because he was tired of the one we usually go to. Given the other reviews, especially the ones that were critical of different aspect of this place (watered down sauces, cleanliness issues, etc.), I was cautiously optimistic and a little excited to try this place. I felt good about the line being long up until they shut down the grill because they ran out of tables. The other thing I had issue with is that where the line goes is so tight that once you are in, you can't get out easily, so we were stuck standing there waiting for tables to clear so they could cook again. The flavor of the sauces was better than our usual place; even the hubby thought so. My lamb was not cooked long enough and the fat on the lamb was still white and flabby and impossible to chew. Their grill is very small and only one person was cooking. Cleanliness was OK, but the carpet grossed me out. I did like that the cooking area walls were all stainless steel, just don't look up at the ceiling. The staff was nice and fairly attentive. The price was reasonable, especially since they also have dessert. I'm not sure I want to try this place again. read more

I saw such great reviews that I decided to come here. My very first impression was not great as the host taking us to the table insulted me by saying my walker was an obstacle to other patrons. We were able to find a spot at the table to keep it out of the way, but my family had to video the line so that I could choose what I wanted because the walker would not fit in line. The service was not very good, leaving dirty dishes on the table, not refilling the water, etc. Also, we don't tip if service is unsatisfactory, but what we didn't notice until today that they automatically charged us with an $8 tip!! Not a bad spot. The Good: plenty of ingredients, and it all looks fresh. The line was well maintained and kept clean. The cooking area was relatively clean, and the cook was pleasant. Plenty of sauce choices, and common allergen risk foods like peanuts and sesame seeds were available only after grilling. The Not so Great: The side dishes were weak. Plain rice, sweet and sour soup and some wontons. Was missing maybe a few potstickers or egg rolls. The wait staff: one of the staff was not the friendliest, but they were attentive. I would rather have my drinks on time than have my ass kissed, so no big deal for me. The soft serve was a nice little touch after a good meal, and the price was decent. Came in, got greeted, got food, sat down with water, rice, and chips wit sweet & sour sauce already placed on my table. One server on the floor which I believe is the owner? Busy at the time I'm writing this review and this one man server was power walking all over the place and quickly serving his customers. He served all his customers on time and heard no complains about waiting for a server not filling their waters or bringing more napkins. Would definitely be back and back again. 10/10 would reccomend. read more

One of the better Mongolian BBQ places I've been to. They include soup and wonton noodles which were both delicious and the food was super good!!! The service was wonderful my water never got below half full and they even had a small dessert bar that had oranges, jello and ice cream. I was too full to take part in desert but it looked good. Mmmmm Mongolian... Talk about a food coma! Cheap food has never tasted so good! I love the sauce selection and the fact that you can pile on as much as you want. It's a sit down place but I always get mine to go and the staff never seems to mind packaging it up for me. I never tire of this Folsom gem! oh, and recently I went to that Fire and Ice place in Tahoe (similar to this type of grill) and it paled in comparison. There may have been more meat and veggies to chose from but the sauces sucked and the flavor was lacking. I think they were trying to make Mongolian healthy or fancy or something but it didn't work. My first time here my dish wasn't the most flavorful because I was afraid to add too many sauces so I played it safe and ended up with some pretty bland noodles. However, after several visits I've managed to perfect my noodles and Chang's is now one of my favorite places to eat at. They have a variety of fresh veggies and meats and an awesome array of sauces to choose from. The food is absolutely delicious! The service on the other hand is mediocre at best. I gave 3 Stars because the entire staff in general is not very welcoming. Another down side is that the restaurant is very hot. They do have several portable fans running to help but the temp is still very uncomfortable while eating. I dunno if they just dont want to turn the AC on or if it's broken but it's been this way the last 4 times I have visited in the past 3 months. I would definitely visit more often if they turned the AC on during the summer months. I dont mind the staff so much just because I'm not big on small talk either lol but the AC??? Chang's Mongolian Grill - My noodles perfected! - Mongolian Near Me - Folsom, California

I've never been to a Mongolian grill where they offer shrimp and calamari as an option. Both were in ice baths, so not frozen like the meat. It's at the end of the food line. They also had tofu, which was nice since it soaked up the sauce. That is IF you add the right sauce combination. And that can be tricky, since the sauces can be a little watered down. There were two choices of noodles, thick and thin. Veggies were fresh and everything was stocked. When there was a lull the cooks would clean the food area and stock the food and sauces. They had a dessert area: soft serve ice cream with a variety of toppings, cut oranges, and a jelly roll dessert. They also served hot and sour soup, which wasn't great. The fried wonton chips were plentiful and we had a small container of white rice. Service was friendly and attentive. Water was always being poured. Fortune cookies were good. read more

This is my favorite place in all of Folsom! I believe it has been here as long as I have, 30+ years. If you don't like it, the problem is with you. They have all the meats and vegetables and sauces that you could possibly want and it is just up to you to put the right combination together that fit your tastes. Have fun experimenting with many options until you find the best. I do lots of meat, I combine the Kung Pao sauce with the Lobster sauce, wine, vinegar, soy sauce. Friendliness and service have never been wonderful here, but not even caring about a long line caused by a second cook that is no where to be found is strike three. A second cook came out way too late. Maybe that's intentional because fewer people will go for seconds, saving the restaurant money. When I complained that the line was too long to go for seconds, the worker clearly couldn't care less. I suggested that one of our party's meals be comped as a gesture of goodwill. She ignored me. But when we paid and she saw the tip line was left blank, she actually had the nerve to point that out. No tip for you! We're totally done with this place. Mongolian BBQ is always a great lunch or dinner option when you can't really decide what you want. This location has beef, chicken, pork and lamb, plenty of veggies and then different sauces to choose from. I usually go with a beef and chicken combination, piling the bowl high and then using another bowl to squish it down so I'm able to load up on veggies; I always put my noodles last so they don't take up too much room and so I don't go overboard on them. This location provides wonton chips with sweet and sour dipping sauce, an egg flower soup, and white rice as part of your meal. I wish they would ask if you want the white rice because often times we don't touch it. The one bowl option allows you to take your leftovers home- which I always do since I load my bowl up. Unlimited Mongolian BBQ is never appealing to me because I can't eat that much. I do like that this place has a dessert bar, I always get soft serve icecream to go! All in all, it's what you expect out of Mongolian BBQ, but nothing really stands out. read more

Let me start by saying that I am a fan of Mongolian, there's nothing to NOT like in my books. I had eaten here 3-4 times when all of a sudden I got sick as a dog after one lunch. Maybe I am an anomaly, but I have not been able to eat Mongolian since that day! I have put off posting a review about this place for a while because I felt bad. However, I am so tired of the poor service. They treat you like you are inconveniencing them by giving them business. You never get a smile and the cooks stare at your like you are robbing them. They give you dirty looks if you fill your bowl to high, which is frustrating because I only get veggies, which cook down A LOT. I see no excuse for their behavior, as I used to work at a Mongolian restaurant in college. I treated people like gold and even helped them back their bowls tighter. It's just bad business and I'm sick of it. I will never go there again. My boyfriend who has grown up here and loves Chang's has finally thrown in the towel as well. He is sick of paying to be treated like garbage. Eventually no one will put up with your poor service. Get it together! read more

We both got upset stomachs, like the food was borderline old. The soup sucked and had a weird flavor. The sauces for the stir fry were watered down and they didn't have very much selection, no teriyaki. I added a bunch of the wine garlic soy and sesame oil and still had no flavor. After adding all my stuff, I added my sauce. I like a lot of flavor, so like to add extra sauce. But for some reason, it was so bland. I was so sad. Came here on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. Hoped with the crowd for a great meal. Unfortunately the cooks were in such a hurry to get through the line they under cooked mine and my friends bowls. She had raw beef and I had raw chicken. I don't give out 5 star reviews lightly. I've eaten at Mongolian Grills in NYC, LA, Chicago, and San Francisco...but this little shop in Folsom is the best one I've ever had. It may not look like much once you enter, but the food and service is outstanding. They offer thick, well cut meat (including lamb and shrimp!) and many different vegetables and sauces. I love coming to my uncles joint for food after long days shopping at folsom outlet.. I just go in there and pick my stuff and let my unc cook!! the trick is to smush ur meat and veggies down so that it can hold by the time u get to the noodles.. or else it will be messy. I was told about this place so I took a family of 4, 3 adults and one child for dinner and it cost almost $70! We had one bowl of food each, the waitress told us to go grab another bowl. We ate some, then when we asked for a box, were told you can't take leftovers home. Whaaaat?! Seriously. For $70 and I can't take the remaining food home. I will never eat here again. I was starving and nothing sounded better than Mongolian BBQ! So I yelped one near us and we stopped in. Great little place. Good choices on meat. The veggie options could have been a little better but thy have the staples.... Carrots, broccoli, cabbage, sprouts etc. the cooking oils and sauces were right on. And they had plenty to get the job done. They served hot and sour soup which was delicious! Rice and crispy won tons were waiting on our table.
