Such a beautiful space! I wanted to take my little girl out for afternoon tea and did a quick search for new places between LA and OC and Chez Bacchus came up. So glad we decided to make the drive down to Long Beach from Hermosa Beach. My husband decided to join us since I saw that they have a regular non tea menu. FYI, they actually only do Afternoon Tea from 1-3 on the weekends and no brunch or lunch- but they were able to accommodate a one off for the Mr since we were the only group there today. The service was AMAZING! Our waitress was so attentive without being intrusive, friendly and patient. My daughter and I got the afternoon tea and it was quite delicious. They have a variety of spread for the scones (apple butter, Devonshire cream, and raspberry). The sandwiches consisted of egg (I think it's a bit heavy on the vinegar), mushrooms, and shrimp. All were scrumptious! They have a decent selection of loose leaf teas (my daughter got the wild rose ) and I got the peach. The peach was quite good. My husband got the bacon and eggs. They make their own bacon (smoked in house) and he was completely blown away at how tasty it was! We were talking about coming back here for dinner because their dinner menu looks solid! Came here on a Sunday afternoon and there was plenty of parking! Again, the space is beautiful and not stuffy like the other tea rooms and I would highly recommend anyone thinking of doing any type of showers here! They even have a screen for those who wish to display some sort of slide shows. Their wine menu is quite extensive as we were told the owner was one of the sommelier from Napa. A culinary experience! Very well thought out menu with great variety, but not overwhelming. There is a set menu with pairing option, or a-la-carte. We choose to order several dishes and share which proved to be more than sufficient. We were stuffed. We had a Reisling that paired lovely with everything we ordered. Settled on the Reisling after a blind tasting of a few potential drinks and it was the clear winner for our taste buds. Having the gentlemen who does all the wine ordering in house that evening to help us decide on the perfect pairing was a treat. Love the ambiance. It's on the darker side, romantic, yet didn't seem to have a dress code. It is more upscale dining in my opinion, so dress to impress to some degree. It was easy to make a reservation online. Seated right away and received wonderful service all night. The menu seems to change quite often, so definitely interested in returning to try some new menu items. read more

Amazing new find! We were at a Yelp Elite event nearby that ended at 8 and we wanted to continue drinking after so we walked around and found a beautiful wine bar named Bacchus. Chef Le has very beautifully prepared dishes. The space is cozy and they have afternoon tea on the weekends. Isaiah and Justin were wonderful hosts. We ordered a delicious octopus appetizer and the Queen Bee drink. We also ordered the large bread box with roasted garlic and it was amazing! We shared a dessert. We celebrated a special dinner at Chez Bacchus, and everything from service to food to cocktails was absolutely outstanding. The staff made the evening feel warm, effortless, and genuinely celebratory. We started with the charred octopus, tempura fried shrimp, roasted garlic with bread, and steamed bao buns. Every appetizer was beautifully executed and packed with flavor. For entrées, the table shared the rigatoni pasta, sea bass, lamb porterhouse, Japanese fried rice, scallops, and the Kurobuta pork chop. Each dish arrived perfectly cooked, well-balanced, and clearly made with care by Chef Danny and his team. Dessert took the night to another level: beignets with lemon mint glaze and monkey bread served tableside with a full fire show by John (the sommelier) fun, dramatic, and delicious. Cocktails were just as impressive: espresso martinis, spiced watermelon margaritas, and a classic Old Fashioned, all well-crafted and smooth. Chez Bacchus truly delivered a memorable celebration. Our host was very considerate and helpful. Congratulations to him on his retirement. Our waitress was attentive but unobtrusive. The food was incredible. We had the sea bass and the scallop entrees with the bread appetizer and the apple pie dessert. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety of breads in the appetizer and it was not overly filling. The scallops had the most amazing garbanzo bean side and that's from a girl who doesn't generally love garbanzos outside of hummus. The sea bass was cooked to perfection and the sides paired well with it. The apple pie dessert was to die for, assuming you love the play of caramel with tart apples, which I do. Came here for a family dinner a few months ago; had great attentive service (it wasn't too busy in the restaurant at the time) and enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered to share: Crispy Duck Confit Salad, Charred Spanish Octopus, and the Crispy Tempura Fried Shrimp. Everything was delicious! A table favorite was the Bacchus Bread because they came with different kinds of bread and dips/spreads to eat them with. For the entrees, we ordered a chicken, pasta, and braised short rib also to share. We got the Harvest Apples Flambé for dessert just because we knew they come to the table to make the apples flambe in front of you :) Overall really enjoyed the dinner and restaurant interior! I personally felt the service was a little too performative - nothing inappropriate or bad, but you know the difference between genuine service hospitality and when someone might be laying on the smiles and happy tones a little too strong. There was also one mistake with our bill that double charged us (two bottles of wine instead of one), but we went back and they corrected their mistake immediately. We chose this restaurant for our wedding anniversary dinner/date night. We were impressed by its quaint atmosphere (twinkle lights and vintage cinema projected on silent in the background). Apparently they're known for their afternoon tea services, but their seasonally rotating dinner menu is top notch! I had the duck and my husband had the lamb. Both were exceptionally delicious. Their fresh breads are so yummy too. We had a few cocktails and wine with dinner. No complaints there. The server was probably the best I've ever had. He was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The tea and cheese plate with that amazing bread and was really all we needed but we ordered an appetizer and entrée to split. If I could give Chez Bacchus 10 stars vs. 5 it is with no doubt well deserved. From the moment I walked in the restaurant to the time I left I received the most amazing service, other diners did as well per my observation. I had been wanting to try the afternoon tea so I made a reservation and had the opportunity to do so. Melissa who was the waiting staff server was so kind and explained the tea selection. She also asked me and other diners as we were seated did we have any food allergies? I truly appreciate this because I do suffer from food allergies, luckily nothing listed on the tea menu yay ! The tea sandwiches, scones , pastries etc are made in house by the chef (not store bought ). I had the Egyptian rose tea which was divine . Of course I ordered a white sangria also . The afternoon tea service was amazing everything was delicious! Service was excellent 10 stars , Melissa was a class act (classy). I do not give out 5 stars much, but this place was perfect! We came in for The Chef's Table! It was divine! Chef came out to ask about allergies and how we liked our meat cooked, then he went to do his magic! We had dinner with wine, and the pairings were made in heaven! From the first course to dessert, the food and presentation were perfect! The Host, and owner, John and his wife, were very gracious! John is the sommelier - that's fancy talk for he really studied his wine! Service was on point! I felt like I was in the dining scene of Beauty and the Beast, the food and wine kept coming! With each course, Chef would come out and explain each dish! He made the simplest ingredients shine like jewels! Now, it's called Chef's Table, not Your Table! Each course was a surprise! We did not know what he was concocting back there! I do not want to tell you exactly what we had, because you will have a different menu. I did add a couple of photos, I lost count after 2 courses, I think there were 6. Chef's Table is what his heart feels like making. And, my family, and I, felt his love. I had tears in my eyes! You can really feel that the folks there like being there! The restaurant is immaculate! The bathrooms are super clean! The music throughout the place was just right - enjoyable! They also have a full service bar! Valet parking is $15 - just do it, the surrounding area is residential and parking can be a challenge. Dinner was spectacular! We came here for my cousin's 40th birthday, excited as longtime afternoon tea lovers. The ambiance was beautiful, servers elegant, and drinks enjoyable -- but the food and service did not live up to expectations. First impressions: The atmosphere is beautiful, elegant, and welcoming. The servers looked polished in their fascinators, which added to the classy vibe. We were seated right away and offered flat or sparkling water, which was a nice touch. Drinks were also promising -- I especially enjoyed my peach bellini. The food: We ordered two individual towers ($65 each) plus a bread basket. Unfortunately, the food presentation did not match the quality. The scones were dry, the chocolate chips overbaked, and the sandwiches were skimpy -- we literally received half a sandwich. The quiche was okay, the crostini chewy and cold, and the fruit tart was served in a wafer shell instead of pastry, which gave it a store-bought feel. I had asked for a boiled egg sandwich (since the menu said eggs any style were available), but what came out was a tiny round piece of bread with some scrambled egg on top -- For the price point, we were expecting high-quality, memorable finger foods, but instead it felt more like style over substance -- beautiful from afar but disappointing up close. The service & billing: Service was just okay. We had to request basics like milk and sugar, which should be standard at a tea service. What really soured the experience, though, was the billing issue. My cousin had paid a $100 deposit, which we were told would be applied to the bill. Instead, the system charged us the full amount without deducting it, leaving us with an extra $100 charge. Staff explained it was due to a new point-of-sale system and promised a refund within 3-5 business days. Regardless, it felt careless and unprofessional -- especially on a milestone birthday. Overall: Ambiance and drinks were the highlights. But the food was underwhelming, service lacked attentiveness, and the billing mishap left a bad impression. For $65 per person, we expected a polished high tea experience. What a gem. And a little hidden. Tucked away in the neighborhood just outside downtown is this restaurant that is much better than it needs to be. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Lovely spot in Long Beach for a nice fancy dinner. Parking was a bit tricky to find but were able to find a spot on the street a couple blocks away. I believe there is also valet parking but we didn't see the sign for it when driving by. I had the best martini here. It was called their special martini but I think it was basically a vesper since it had a mix of vodka and gin. Bread was $10 which was on the pricey side but it tasted so fresh and came with a variety of flavors. My favorite was the spiced sourdough. We also got garlic on the side to top the bread which was quite tasty. For our other appetizer, we got octopus which was cooked well and a good sized portion. For my entree, I got lamb. Usually steakhouses serve lamb chops or lamb shank but this felt more like a beef filet mignon so a bit heartier. The lamb was cooked perfectly and loved the sides as well. A great place for a nice date night that you get to dress up for. They recently got their liquor license, so in addition to a great wine selection, they have unique and delicious cocktails. Charming restaurant that's perfect for a date or meeting up with friends. We went with a group of 4 for brunch at around 11am. The owners (husband and wife) were so friendly and took great care of us! We ordered the Sadie's seasonal pastries, chilaquiles, chile verde, and fried chicken + buttermilk biscuits, and 2 sides of bacon. The pastries we delicious! Super flavorful and tasted really fresh. The chile verde was not very hot when it came out, but still had excellent flavor. The chilaquiles were very tasty and the chipotle sauce had great depth! I ordered the chilaquiles with fried eggs instead of scrambled, and they accidentally brought out scrambled, but it was an easy fix. The fried chicken resembled chicken strips/fingers vs a traditional chicken breast/thigh. For our drinks we originally ordered 4 bloody Mary's, but we were later told they only had enough mix to make 3. The mix was super flavorful though and is made by one of their cooks! We ordered a fiero spritz in lieu of the 4th Bloody Mary, but they ended up bringing us something completely different with no real explanation... Overall, it's a charming spot with fresh bites. Five stars for Chez Bacchus! Jen and I had dinner there last night and loved every minute. We started with "The City's Best Martini" and a French 75--both prepared to perfection. The house bread service with roasted garlic, butter, olive oil, and balsamic was delicious and set the tone for the meal. We shared the octopus appetizer, then both had the duck confit for dinner. The duck was cooked perfectly--crispy skin, tender meat, and full of flavor. We finished with the banana cream pie for dessert, which was the ideal sweet ending. The wine list is excellent, the service impeccable, and every staff member--right down to the valet--was friendly and welcoming. Decided to try this because our original plans were cancelled. We were very disappointed to see that the service was very slow. The table that came after us about 15 minutes was served before us and the waiters didn't give us napkins or milk and sugar (we had to request it) while other tables didn't need to ask. The staff was kind, but they were not as accommodating as we had hoped. The food was also very very sweet. We ordered Bacchus tower and everything was overwhelmingly sweet. The butternut squash soup was so sweet it felt like our throats were coated in honey, little to no flavor of the actual squash, the quiche was cold and flavorless, but the ham sandwich with arugula wasn't half bad. The middle tier with scones and muffins were cold in the middle and seemed almost underbaked. The final top tier was the sweetest out of all of them. The cake pops were so dry, but was incredibly sweet as if they dumped a bucket of frosting into it. The cake pops disintegrated off the stick as soon as we bit into it. The meringues which are usually supposed to be light, airy, and crispy, were extremely sticky which again appeared undercooked. Finally, the milk pudding with the persimmon wasn't half bad and had good milky flavor without being too overly sweet with the persimmon. The tea selection was good. We tried 3 different teas. I am predicting that Chez Bacchus is going to be the next restaurant in Long Beach to earn a Michelin Star! Their service is outstanding and consistent. Knowledgeable sommeliers are on deck to suggest the best pairings and match your preference. If the owner is there and the chef is available, they will greet or serve you and check to see how your experience is. They have a very extensive wine list from all over the world. Prices vary and are reasonable. They also serve cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks as well. When I went a while back, I loved the exotic dishes they had like wild boar meatballs and ostrich! Now, with a new chef, the menu seems more refined, but with a few items for the adventurous eater. To start, my husband and I shared the Autumn Salad ($16) and Wagyu Beef Cheek Pot Pie ($30). The salad was a decent size, with a zesty pomegranate vinaigrette. The pot pie, on the other hand, was pretty small. However, the crust was light and flakey and the Wagyu cheek melted in our mouths. For our entrees, we shared the Barramundi ($41) and Long Beach Mushroom Risotto ($36). Skin on with a crispy char, the fish was tender inside and cooked to perfection. Chez Bacchus gets their mushroom (and other produce) right here in our backyard farms! I loved all the veggies that were in the creamy risotto. Unfortunately, we didn't leave room for dessert, but I would like to try the Bananas Foster next time! It's quite entertaining to watch them make it too! I would also like to return with my friends for their Afternoon Tea. Street parking or valet is available. I didn't need reservations on a Sunday night, but might be wise to make one during peak times on the weekends. read more
