Been coming here for 30 plus years. Not like it used to be. I usually do take out, have dined-in a few times. They have become a bunch of cheapskates, while raising the prices. You used to get free wonton crisps if you order a soup -- not anymore, you pay for those! You used to get a couple packets of soy sauce -- not anymore, you get one. You used to get a couple fortune cookies -- no more, you get one. Hot and sour soup has become bland and flavorless. Most other dishes I take out, I have to add some Sriracha chili garlic sauce for flavor and heat. Going to start exploring other places locally. Dined here and pretty much got what I expected. The food was average Americanized Chinese food, but service was really quick, and portions were fairly big. So we had lots of leftovers. But this is one of those places you can come for a quick, decent meal, and you won't have to wait for a table. And I felt like I was dining in a restaurant from the 90's from my childhood. I'd been regularly visiting the area and had always noticed this place, but never tried it, till now...we thought we'd give it a shot. Ok, I think I can keep this review relatively brief. The inside is clean, casual, and pretty nice for a Chinese restaurant. Let's just say, this is not a typical authentic Chinese restaurant as their menu, clientele, and service caters more for the western crowd. On the bright side, service is not like the typical Chinese restaurant in that they're very nice polite here. So, just to try some of their lunch specials, we ordered the Mongolian beef and sesame chicken.... and just to try some noodles... since I love noodles...we ordered the chicken lo mein. The lunch specials come with a choice of soup, a wonton, and egg roll. Unfortunately, the food that first came out tasted too salty... and I had an issue with the sesame chicken... that I just had to call the manager over to discuss about. Also unlike any authentic Chinese restaurant I'd been to, the manager is a really nice guy and was happy and willing to make us happy by replacing the noodles and sesame chicken. What I didn't get was why the initial order took so long to come out when the new orders took less than 5 minutes!..... and, the replacement dishes were so so much better.... fresh, hot, and pretty tasty. Overall, I'm glad I finally got to try out this place. However, we prefer more authentic Chinese food, so I'm not really sure if we'll ever be back here again. read more

Ok listen this place is ok but not for the price you see even though the portion is bomb and the flavors are good but the place smells whack because they have carpet not tile it feels like a hotel food dining area. We decided to order pick up from here after seeing the lunch specials listed on one of their mailers. We had wanted to come for dinner, but the entrees are at least $5 more than our go to Chinese restaurants (China Moon and Chen's Panda). My husband ordered the chicken in orange peel sauce and I ordered the sweet and pungent shrimp (sometimes called aromatic shrimp at other places). I remembered where it was from the giant red roof and the big sign that says "China Palace", but upon walking up to the door there were no signs (in English) that said the name of the restaurant. The lunch specials all come with a choice of hot and sour soup or egg drop soup as well as a wonton, egg roll and egg fried rice or plain rice. Neither of the soups were good :/ the egg drop had no flavor and was gelatinous. The hot and sour also lacked flavor for being hot and sour soup. The wontons and eggroll were like any takeout, but they put in sides of sweet and sour sauce and spicy mustard to dip, which were delicious. The orange peel chicken and the sweet and pungent shrimp had a really good flavor and were still hot by the time I got home. Both meals only had hints of crunch left by the time we started eating. Overall I would give this place 3.5 stars. I think if they added more flavor to their soups and double fry their food a bit longer so it keeps it's crunchiness it would be a 4! Go through the red door on Newport Ave in Tustin and you will enter into a very familiar world of classic Chinese comfort food (sweet & sour pork, broccoli beef, almond chicken, noodle soup, etc.). I've been coming here for years, the food is not trendy or fancy, but it is good. Service is great. The decorations are cheesy but in the very best possible way. This is just plain a great family restaurant and a great value. My favorite items are the Kung Pao Chicken and the Hot & Sour soup. I recently tried the vegetable egg foo young and it was marvelous. Such good food!! Even my super picky toddler had seconds!! The potstickers are so good. And they are huge. I liked that the honey walnut shrimp had a thinner breading on it. And the sauce was light and tasty. I'm not sure what the beef dish we had was called, but it was peppery and had a lot of onions in it. The beef was sooo tender. My son had a few servings of the chow mein. I think he even ate some of the vegetables. And the chicken wings...omg. They are sooo good and crispy. Everything we had was very tasty. They had plenty of room, so we didn't feel like we had to rush, though we also didn't have to wait for our food, they were prompt. 5 Stars: We found the interior to be fresh, clean, comfortable, and bright. The customer service was top notch by everyone who interacted with us, esp our waitress. The prices for the amount of food and quality were very good, esp for these days. Everyone enjoyed their food. It's awesome they have quite a few round tables, which work so much better for groups over 4. The place is quiet so you can actually have a conversation! 4 Stars: Food itself. We can't believe it ourselves, but my sister and I have been dining at China Palace for over 20 years now! It's one of our top lunch spots when we meet up, and we always order our "tried and true" - a Three Flavor Noodle Soup for each of us supplemented by a Pork with Hot Sauce lunch special. FYI - lunch specials are served with choice of Egg Drop or Hot and Sour soup, egg roll, fried wonton and a bowl of rice. Both are solid choices almost every time! Pro Tip: If the image of the Three Flavor Noodle Soup awakens your appetite and you want to try the combination of shrimp, chicken, beef, vegetables, noodles and soup, you may not find it on the China Palace menu so you better ask somebody (namely your server)! Fun Fact: In all the years we've dined here, we've observed that the majority of the staff is Chinese but most of the customers are not which is all good with us. We close out every meal at China Palace with the traditional fortune cookie. Next time you're up for some Chinese food and in the Tustin area, stop on in and see how good your fortune is! read more

We ordered a large Hot & Sour soup to go. Easy ordering process over the phone and was ready within 10 minutes. On a Sunday evening, my husband said they were busy. This place is actually really good for group events. We reserved the back room for the event. The setup went very smooth. We got one of their package deals and it was a good mixture of dishes. I really like their sticky rice with pork sung and the dessert, red bean with tan yuan. Their stir fry noodle was also very good. I would recommend them changing the yellow walls. The yellow walls aren't good for photo and seems a bit outdated. Other than that, I think their food was pretty decent and a great value. read more

After not being acknowledged at the Denny's we headed over to China Palace. We were acknowledged from the second we came in and sat in under a minute. The AC was on and the restaurant was fresh. The food here is superb. The main reason for the 5 star review is around service. read more

So instead, we had to wait for him to bring us refills. Water glasses are extremely small and packed with ice. Mongolian beef too thick. The house lo mein was descent 8 out of 10. The manager was nice but the way they do business is too Americanized. Missing the authentic Chinese customer service and food preparation. That thick Mongolian beef was wild, at least provide sheers or a knife. Expecting us to chew that incredibly thick piece of meat is nuts. read more

I have been ordering delivery from them for a while now. I called one day to place a delivery order and the lady I talked to said you have to order $65. Worth of food and that they now have an $18. I can't believe how this place has gone downhill. We used to live around the corner and we would have dinner there all the time. It's been about 10 years and we were feeling nostalgic, so decided to make the drive up there on a Friday night. They sat us down quickly and brought (most) of us water and utensils. The gentleman doing the water refills was on it, always refilling our cups and checking on us. We quickly ordered. There after things started to go sideways. The waiter brought us some stuffed wontons in addition to the fried wontons that the brought us after initially seating us. He said the eggrolls we had ordered had sold out. "You can sell out of eggrolls early in the evening in a chinese restaurant? Don't you just make more?" Anyway I said that was fine and waited for the main dishes to be brought out.
