After hanging out at the beach we were starving so we went to Chucks Coffee Shop. I was tempted to try their chilaquiles special but since this was my first time here I had to try their Famous Weasel! Omg it was so good! I've never had chili on my eggs before and their fried potatoes were so yummy as well! So happy I got that! It was all outdoor dining when I went and they extended into the street in the back which was nice. All the tables were spaced out well and I felt safe eating there. This is such a classic. We were staying a block away and decided to check this out and what a pleasant surprise. We went back the next day! It's a diner with the diner vibe and a lot of great brunch options. We like going out for breakfast when we're out of town because we don't get to do it as much when we're home. My husband had the Mushroom Scramble and that was a winner! I had the French Toast which was just as good! Staff is very nice and we look forward to coming back here when we're visiting Long Beach. What a perfect old school LB place to stop for an easy breakfast and cup of coffee. Located next to the beach, it is a must! This breakfast/brunch nook has been in the city since the '60s. I've been here so many times, I guess it's time to finally make it official. This place is awesome, it's right by the beach so definitely great views. In the winter time when it's cold they have a fireplace inside which keeps it nice and warm. Went there just this morning and always good food. I try everything from their French toast, oatmeal and their specials. Which I would definitely go for again. The service is incredible. It's very diner by the beach kinda vibe. I'm always willing to give new place I've never been to a try. So I went to try out Chuck's last Friday on 1/17/25. Let me just say that I will never go back again. The server was rude and unprofessional. She never once asked if I needed a refill on my coffee, as soon as I got my breakfast she came back within a minute and slammed the bill on my table as if I was being rushed out of the establishment. I then placed the money on the table for the server to pick up for the bill as I continued to eat my breakfast. She picked it up and brought back my change. I left my change on the table as I was still eating and reading the newspaper. She then came back 5 minutes later (noted there was no bill at this time) and she tried to take the money again. I then proceeded to tell her that I had already paid the bill and that was my change she had bro back. Now as for the food, it was bland and had no taste, pancakes and bacon were cold and over cooked. I proceeded to let her know and her reply was the cook is "swamped" and he'll get me a fresh plate when he can. At that point I was done. I just walked out and went about my day. The service and food were poor at this establishment. I will never set foot inside again nor will I recommend anyone to go there. read more

The food was bland with no seasoning and the food quality is less than Denny's, The potatoes were not what I'd expect, and neither will you. The coffee was light and tasteless - no lactose free options for creamer. The service was okay, the server let me know she was vegetarian like 5 times, and forgot I told her I'm lactose intolerant hence the sour cream to the side. She only recommended veggie dishes even though I told her I needed protein, and then told me there's not much protein in veggies. While it's nice to come the beach and have breakfast, it's not worth it at all. Find something else. read more

Pretty meh. Biggest complaint is that it's cash only. Who carries cash anymore? It's filthy and just a way to avoid taxes by a business. I don't trust it. Food is pretty boring and normal. Nothing special. There's obviously regulars and they treat the regulars really really well while kind of ignoring everybody else. Tables are always sticky and the place is pretty dirty. The bathroom is absolutely disgusting. The staff is very very nice though. They probably deserve better. I live very close, very walkable, but I only come here when I have a guest in town and it's an easy way to get them breakfast. I never go just on my own. There are so many other places around here that are better. read more

First, let's start with the service, we had a young gal that never smiled, like she hated her job, and never came back to check on us and I had to get up and get the coffee pot myself and refill our coffee ! Now, the food , we both had omelet's for $15.00 each and coffee for $4.00 each, the quality of the ingredients and the presentation were below any standards I've ever had. We did speak to the hostess about the food and she said "that just the way it is !" And the big surprise is they only take cash ! Who doesn't take cards anymore, what are they hiding ! This morning, I had breakfast with my wife here. We had a great experience with our first server, who had gone on her break halfway through our visit. However, a server with red hair named Gladys completely ruined what would have been an enjoyable breakfast. She didn't say a single word to us as she slammed a water cup and threw our to-go container on our table, even though we politely replied thank you each time. Yet, it was met with a cold shoulder and no response. She was hospitable and cordial to all the other guests, laughing and smiling. My wife had never experienced such rude service before and couldn't help but feel it was discrimination based on her race. When I asked the server about her rude behavior, she simply said she was trying to be efficient and serve all the customers because her coworker was on break. What makes us less important than any other customers? The experience has been traumatic for my wife, and I can assure you that we will never come back to this establishment. Unfortunately, one person can spoil what could have been a place my family and friends would regularly visit. I'm unwilling to take any chances and will find a better business to support. I would never want anyone that I care about to have such an awful experience. Lastly, my wife pointed out that our table was the only table not warned about street sweeping, which I had not realized at the time. Literally, every other table warned that they should move their car to avoid getting a ticket... except ours. Why was that? To say that the service is unacceptable is a gross understatement, and I'm heartbroken that my wife had to endure this. Came at 12 pm on a Sunday. We were told it would be a 5-10 minute wait, but in the meantime "feel free to help yourselves to some coffee." "Awesome" my best friend Alex and I say to each other, "not gonna say no to some complimentary coffee!" We got the coffee (more on this later), which was fine, and were seated in a minute. We weren't brought water for 10 minutes which was a bit long but is admittedly a small gripe. For my meal I got 2 pancakes for $6 and an egg over medium for $.75 extra. The food came out in 10 or so minutes. My egg was ok, just your standard over medium egg. I will give them credit for only charging $.75 for an alright egg. But the pancakes were among the, if not the worst I've ever had. It was... how to best explain... how I imagine what eating a damp sponge might be like. There was absolutely no flavor to them at all. Just flavorless, sticky, far-too-chewy blobs of mush. C'mon guys! Add some sugar, spice, everything nice! But seriously, I've seen rocks with more personality than these pancakes. As I was cutting the rest I soon realized that all the pancake bits that were unusually sticking to my utensils and to each other were telltale signs that my pancakes were full of raw, uncooked batter. C'mon guys! Cook them on low so there's more time to thoroughly cook the cakes inside and out! Customers should not be served raw batter for obvious reasons... I sent the pancakes back of course and instead got French Toast. It was at least edible and tasted fine, but nothing I couldn't do better and cheaper at home. Obviously same with the pancakes. Remember (from the 1st paragraph) that when we came in we were told to help ourselves to coffee? Well as I'm being disgusted by the pancakes I say to Alex, "hey, at least we got free coffee." Then we get the receipt and see we've been charged $3 each for the coffee. Yes, it's true that the lady never explicitly said that the coffee was complimentary. But on the flip side, we weren't told we'd be charged for it until... well, until we were charged for it. We talked about it later and agreed that we were justified in assuming it was free after being told to help ourselves. There was also no sign by the coffee that stated we'd be charged for pouring a cup. So at best we were misled. Wonderful! Just what I'm looking for in a breakfast establishment. The nail in the coffin, which Alex later told me about- he found a dang hair in his food. Summary: Don't come here. read more
