Passed by Cindy's back in October when having dinner at a restaurant nearby. I made a mental note to go back and try Cindy's. Today was the day. Went for breakfast and arrived before 9:30am which was a good thing as it filled up quickly. We waited for a booth instead of sitting at the counter because more than two people at a counter seating situation is harder to visit. The wait wasn't too long. However, the diner did explode with customers and people walked in and turned around and left. The menu is higher-level diner options. Choice of ingredients are more premium than American cheese and Jimmy Dean sausage. Breakfast is served until 11am before they change to the lunch menu. Some menu items were said to be offered all day. Assorted fruit and cream pies are available for dessert if you save room. The menu portions are large and filling. Staff weren't unkind, but not overly exuberant. The space is on the smaller side. Booths and counter seating available. And a few outside tables, as well. The decor is bright and happy. Parking lot is narrow with smallish parking spaces. I observed many larger vehicles struggle getting in and out of the diner's parking lot. read more

First time there for dinner, and I could not believe how amazing the sides were. They had other vegetarian options, but I wanted the collard greens, black-eyed peas, and cole slaw and was not disappointed. The server was super friendly and prompt. Cindy's also had beautiful window art in tribute to Fox's in Altadena, which burned in the Eaton Fire. Will definitely return, and with more friends. read more

What a cute spot! We've driven by it a few times and finally made the stop in, and we were not disappointed. Your classic, delicious diner with endless refills of drip coffee. Our server was sooo incredibly sweet and the food was delicious. We ordered the green goddess omelette and the 2 eggs, bacon, pancakes with a side of potatoes. Just delicious. Three quickly dimming stars on this place. A definite one and done. It's a really cool-looking place. I instantly loved it. The hostess was terrific. Once we were seated, the stars quickly dimmed. You quickly get the feeling that they want you to get in and get out. If I wanted to eat that fast I'd join the Army. It was super loud, too, so on top of being rushed, it's not a great place to have a casual conversation unless you're not interested in what the other person has to say. Our server never checked on us to see how we liked the food, and our coffee cups were empty and not refilled until we were already done with our meal. The food? Super disappointing. How can a diner have bad pancakes? Well, Cindy's pancakes are served not even warm enough to melt the one pat of butter they give you with your order. They are dry and grainy. Cindy, how could you? That ain't right. My friend had the chilequiles. She barely ate any of it. She gave it 2 1/2 stars, and she's not a picky eater. It was a pricey breakfast, about $50 bucks for two people. I don't mind if it's good, but you can get a much better breakfast for much less money at Norm's. Seriously, no kidding. The place was packed, so I'm sure they won't be bummed that I won't be back. The rest of you can find me at Norm's eating some proper pancakes served warm with plenty of butter. read more

Best last minute find yet!!! We've been on this Fried Chicken thing for a while now, trying as many as we can find on the menu and so imagine our surprise when this breaded delight came out - crispy, juicy, spicy and everything nice. And if you're a fan - sub black-eyed peas for their spicy, tangy collard greens!!! We also got the Noah's Arc (2 pancakes, 2 eggs, sub bacon for sausage). A little dense for the pancake (for our taste) but the chicken sausage was different in a good way. Overall: will be back soon!!! read more

Located up in Eagle Rock Cindy's is certainly one of the more classic diners in LA. That being said a diner is a diner so you have to adjust expectations versus comparing it to a high-end breakfast restaurant. I'm a huge fan of diners for breakfast, so was really excited to try Cindy's and we are happy that we did so. It's quite small on the inside, and they don't have outside seating. Everything is either booths or counter seating. They have a large parking lot attached to the restaurant so finding a space was free and easy. We were able to be seated right when we arrived at the counter, although would have to have waited a bit if we wanted a table. Our server was very polite and quick, and all of our items came out very quickly. The pricing is fair, I have had cheaper in LA, but also much more expensive. They have a pretty good menu in terms of options, so I chose my favorite breakfast dish: the Eggs Benedict. I would say it was a 4/5 just because the hollandaise did not taste homemade, and the muffin on the bottom was a bit soggy, and I wish they would do hashbrowns instead of home potatoes, but overall I did enjoy it. I really enjoyed their coffee and had many cups. Overall, there are other diners in LA that I like more, but I really did enjoy Cindy's and would recommend to any diner fan. I definitely would try again next time I am in Eagle Rock. read more

Tucked into the heart of the Eagle Rock neighborhood, on Colorado Boulevard. Which is Historic Route 66. Cindy's a local dinner that is filled with local residents. Cindy's is not LGBTQ?+ owned but is a supportive and safe public space. Cindy's delivers on the promise of a classic, satisfying breakfast and more in a warm, retro setting. I opted for a timeless morning combo: two eggs cooked to my liking, anytime I see house-made, I have to order it. The breakfast sausage patties and The diced potatoes are house made. and a slice of toast. The sausage stood out well-seasoned, and full of rich flavor. The potatoes were chunky of various sizes. The eggs were spot-on, just how I ordered, and the toast is nothing memorable. Before heading out, I couldn't resist browsing their dessert case -- all pies and cakes are baked in-house. I went with a slice of Dutch Apple Pie to go, and it was a treat worth the extra calories. Loaded with apples and perfectly spiced, the crust had just the right flake and crunch. It didn't leave me disappointed -- if anything, it left me wishing I'd brought home a whole pie. The server was polite and did check in on me once. Cindy's does have a limited space for parking, offers outside tables and the restrooms are outside as well. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Cindy's serves up breakfast the way it should be: simple, hearty, and made with care. read more

First off I don't write reviews so bear with me this place was so cute, am down visiting for the Rose Parade. This place was packed but I was pleasantly surprised by the food and the service was great had a tall waitress don't remember her name. I had the vegetarian omelette and my husband had pancakes. Came back here to try again..... I don't think the chefs are consistent. - shrimp & grits 2.5/5 It wasn't as good as last time. It was VERY bland and the grits were quite gritty. Disappointed. - beef hash 5/5 The beef hash was super good! I don't understand why it comes with a side of watery beans.. it didn't make sense with the whole dish. The beef was tender and all the veggies, potato and sweet potato was delicious. - strawberry rhubarb pie 3/5 I liked how fresh it tasted. They put sugar on top so the crust is quite sweet. Good stuff here: unique takes on diner menu items in a very classic ambience. The meatballs are homemade, and if you enjoy those you can't go wrong with the Swedish Meatballs (not your typical fare - the focus on the meatballs and gravy with homemade mashed potatoes) and spaghetti and meatballs. Heartily portioned, you'll have enough to take home. The BBQ chicken salad is also recommended - a delicious mix of flavors. Two items of note that aren't positives: they LOVE onions in the kitchen, so be sure to ask if your dish has it and, if so, go easy...otherwise, they'll go crazy. (The meatloaf, for example, is actually onionloaf) The french fries could also use a page 1 re-write: both times I've tried them as a side they've arrived cold and limp. In all, though, the good outweighs the bad, and it's nice to discover another neighborhood diner. read more

I have been struggling to find a diner that fits my husband's dream of eating at a diner and my dream of not being stuffed and greasy after. Cindy's fit this request! It's got a bit of a wait as it's fairly small inside, but they move through the wait list fairly quickly. The inside feels very vintage with low booths and cool wallpaper. It felt classy rather than aged, which was a great balance to strike for a diner. The ambiance is classic local feel, with lots of groups eating and drinking together. The food menu was great as there were large options for my husband and healthier things for me. Their salads were interesting- I had the mushroom Greek salad and found it super tasty. There are plenty of things on the menu for any taste, and I found that things were all cooked to perfection. The men I went with also had two slices of pie, which they claimed to be fantastic. I would love to head back to this spot as a casual returner. read more

I've been wanting to go here for quite some time because I saw that they serve grits. The food tastes like southern cooking and made the old-fashioned way. The wife had the oatmeal, and I had the has with two eggs. The serving sizes were relatively large and tasted just like the old days. However, the grits were too watery and really did not have a southern taste to it. I prefer my grits firm with texture, with some melted butter and pepper. Comfort food perfected. The mid century setting, easy going staff and the incredibly delicious food easy make this one of my favorite stops when I'm in the mood for something delicious. This past visit I had the meatloaf and I swear the mash potatoes were pure butter... heaven. It's a very popular breakfast stop on the weekends so just be prepared to be patient, otherwise late afternoons and evenings are busy but no wait (in my experiences) One last thing... their syrup. It's home made, presumably by elves, because this stuff is so delicious I could drink it straight up. Leave space for a yummy dessert. One of my favorite breakfast/brunch places ever. The fried chicken was very very tender. I'm not a big fan of black eyed peas--I should have swapped them out for a different side, which is something you can do. I also frequently get the breakfast sandwich and add brisket. I love the sandwich and the potato's that come on the side. This place is usually very busy, but the staff seems organized and keeps everything under control. Very good service. read more

This is a place know by locals. Their ambiance has an old timey with '50's decor. Its been used in several films/movies. The inside has cozy seating with friendly staff. After looking their their menu, I decided to order the Noah's ark breakfast. The size was just right portion. The bacon was thick and crispy. The pancakes were soft and fluffy. The eggs were over easy and cooked to perfection. I wished it would've come with toast or an English muffin. With an old diner like this, i was disappointed that they didn't have Chicken Fried Steak on their menu. I will have to come back and try their lunch items and their pies. read more

Cindy's is no doubt a staple of Eagle Rock, and I am grateful for the friendly service I've received over the years, but sadly the food is far from what it once was. I have had the joy of dining at Cindy's for the last 10 years and have enjoyed many delicious meals here, thankfully. That said, I'm not sure what has changed, but something has clearly shifted in the kitchen. Every time I've eaten at Cindy's in the last 6 months, I have left feeling disappointed and with indigestion. This morning was unfortunately no exception and will for sure be the last time I dine at Cindy's. It's a bummer... Mine and my partner's eggs were prepared incorrectly, our pancakes were batter'y and undercooked, our meat was undercooked and cold, and the potatoes we ordered as a side looked like they were prepared yesterday and were highly unappetizing. I hate being an inconvenience to the server, but I had to ask for my bacon to be replaced, only to find the replacement look like the bottom of the barrel pieces that would have otherwise been tossed. Like most people dining out, I consider it a splurge and a big treat! After all, for just 2 people, the total was $60. That's a lot of money for any meal, let alone a meal that I--if blindfolded--would have guessed was from IHOP, if not worse. This review sounds harsh, but the truth is that I want Cindy's to succeed. And I would love to try it again if they get a new chef. It's clear the kitchen is lacking and I have no confidence eating here anymore. read more

I came appropriately dressed .... In an Orange Hawaiian shirt and Orange Penguin flip flops...this place is laid back and brings you waaaay back to that 50s diner feel... Place was empty ... it was about 8am on a Friday morning... We sit in our booth by the window... where Nic Cave used to sit back in the day... (now that is an outright lie...) But we ARE on Route 66 !!! This quaint faint and lonely diner turned into an outright orgy party right around 8:45am Place got packed like a Sardine cannery in minutes ... So Let's get to the nitty... I'm a biscuit whore so I had to try the biscuit w gravy... HOLY f.... These biscuits were drowned in creamy gravy sauce but the sauce wasn't runny and so perfect for biscuit bread...made my mouth water... oh my! I'm covering my mouth and giggling like a proper Japanese lady... Huevos Rancheros ... eggs are over easy and runny and mixed well with the cotija cheese; tortillas; and black beans...the green Chile sauce wasn't spicy at all... but really flavorful... thumbs up to the chefs in back! We love your huevos!!! A stack of flapjacks were nice and soft... and the Vermont Maple syrup was just straight up classy... Overall... muy satisfecho !!! We wanted to grab some shirts but like I said I couldn't put our server into a quagmire of misery having to pick the right sizes for us while in the midst of this packed house!!! So we saved him the heartache and saved the shirts for another day... Waiters filled my cup with Jones coffee like 4 times... and Jones' my friend is pure crack cocaine... I would proudly wear my orange owl Cindy's shirt anywhere... Adult t's are $22 ; kids sizes are $15 They got mugs and tote bags too... Lots of industry and teamster types come here right before they're grueling back breaking shifts begin ... Welcome to a little snap shot of Middle America right here in Eagle Rock! I've been eating once a week or so at Cindy's for about ten years now. I love everything about it! The food is delicious, fresh and seasoned to perfection. First of all....the jam is to die for!! Visiting from Palm Springs with my husband. My husband grew up in the area, so had been to Cindy's many times, but hasn't been in over 30 years. Cute little spot, lots of people taking photos in the parking lot since Timberlakes music video was filmed here. We arrived around 10:45 so they were still serving breakfast. I know this because I was going to order a sandwich from the "lunch" side and was told it wasn't lunch hours yet by our waiter. He was a young guy not very friendly but can't say he was rude either. I opted for the bacon and cheese omelette. My cheese wasn't melted at all, but still okay. 1 piece of semi burnt toast and a side of potatoes. Coffee was good though, had to ask for a refill. Meeting my friend B for a lunch and giggle in her neighborhood. I love diners of any kind... retro, modern, greasy spoon- types all work for me. I was raised on hanging out in a diner for years that was our social gathering spot so it will always be a warm, friendly and fuzzy memory for me. Cindy's waitstaff are fun and lovely. Immaculately clean booths and smiling faces all around. Happy customers... good vibe. Our sandwiches were fine... The fries were great! We both only ate half our food so good and generous portions! Overall a good experience... prices were fair and unusually low for a change. I will return for sure! Not my neighborhood but shout out to all my eastside friends to check it out. Great parking! Great little diner right off Colorado! Stopped by today on Easter Sunday around 1 and it was quite busy. We wrote our name down on the clipboard to be seated inside and waited for about 30 minutes. There's a big selection of meals which made it challenging for me to pick-- everything looked great. I settled on the cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger itself was tasty and the bun was nice and fluffy but the fries aren't anything special, kinda soggy. My partner got Noah's ark and I got a taste of the pancakes. SO GOOD! definitely will need to get that instead next time along with a selection from their dessert menu. I lean towards cake but the pies look amazing. PS, there is parking on-site but is limited and you can probably find street parking. The bathroom is also not located in the restaurant but to the side of it which you'll need a key for. read more
