The cheese board was very very good, the Wild Truffle pizza was pretty average with the exception of the lemon ricotta on it which was extremely tasty, but the Spaghetti Carbonara was really terrible - flavorless and greasy and left my stomach feeling a little uneasy honestly just from all the oil dripping off of it. The same folks who brought us Beyond Sushi, Anixi and Willow have, unsurprisingly, delivered another solid vegan spot in Coletta. The food and drinks are totally satisfying, and the hospitality is especially impressive. If you're looking for fun night out w/vegan eats, excellent service and non-exorbitant prices in downtown Manhattan (and don't feel like waiting in line for an hour), it'd be hard to top Coletta. And if my criteria for ratings extended no further, this would be four stars. But I also consider whether I'd make it a priority to return, so it's an enthusiastic three stars, because the food is simply good. Some takeaways: -- The giant ravioli ($18) with mock prosciutto and a faux egg yolk is a hearty, fun starter. It tasted like an elevated, pasta version of an Egg McMuffin. -- The "salt roasted beet" salad ($18) with "citrus supreme, fennel shavings, 'ricotta,' dehydrated black olives and citrus vinaigrette" had a lively description on the menu but a pedestrian presence on the plate. Olives were missing, beets were basic, fennel was dry. -- The sausage and artichoke pizza ($24) was a standout. I wouldn't mind a less-wholesome crust and a more-flavorful pesto, but it was still pretty delicious. Wow! I'm always surprised by how good these vegan restaurants are these days. The restaurant had many tables full at 7 pm on a Sunday night, we had to get the reservation weeks in advance. Loved the ambiance. We went here with a group of 14 but got two separate reservations on two different tables because otherwise they only serve the group dining menu which is about $65 per person. We got the Chick ' N Linguini Alfredo, Fig and Prosciutto Pizza and Penne Alla Vodka. Everything was absolutely delicious, I'd recommend getting any of these items. This new vegan Italian restaurant did not disappoint, as they have some of the best vegan Italian dishes with super friendly staff. It's open late in the weekdays, with a beautiful ambience. Everything we got were deviously delicious! No one would know those were vegan! Some of the must orders are: 1. Olive and Rosemary Bread/ so good! The bread was served warm in a flower pot with a dip trio: Evoo, aged balsamic, sun dried tomato, thyme, and vegan feta. My favorite dip was the one with vegan feta. 2. A vegan foodie's dream!! You cannot leave without getting the puttanesca meatballs or tiramisu. The meatballs and the sauce they're in, SO good, the olives in the base really add depth. I like this place, but was expecting more. There's certainly room for improvement. I'd come back for sure, but with it so expensive, I probably wouldn't go very often even. The meatballs and garlic knots appetizer is fantastic. Honestly, you could get it for yourself and have it just be your meal. And if you want dessert with that, go with the tiramisu, which is also excellent. Perfect 'treat yourself' special dinner and dessert for one right there. Those were the two best things I had off the menu. The steak filet is underwhelming. Tastes more like pot roast than steak, It's noticeably colder in the center, and the whipped potatoes it sits on just tastes like instant mashed potatoes. The fried artichokes are good if you don't use the lemon they provide--the lemon kinda destroys the flavor profile of them. The black ink ravioli is good, but the portion is noticeably minuscule compared to an appetizer. The olive oil cake is so-so, especially as compared to the vast amount of vegan cakes in NYC. I don't know that anyone would ever crave it specifically. The house made strawberry soda is alright. Woulda been way better if they had muddled the mint instead of using it as a garnish. Away from the food, the service is a bit odd. A lot of different people visit you throughout the meal and there's no communication between anyone. When we had just sat down and were reading the menus, someone came by and tried to bring us calamari, which we of course didn't order. They looked at us like we were crazy, and like we'd been there for a while and they had been serving us or something. It was strange. We were visited by three almost maybe waiters before we were ever greeted by the person who would be our actual waiter. If you're making a reservation for a special occasion, there's literally no reason to mention that to them, because they're not going to greet you or mention the special occasion in any way, so it's weird that they even want to know what the occasion is during the reservation process. I'm not looking for special treatment or free food or anything, I'm just at least expecting the front of house to be like 'Happy Anniversary' or something like that, if they want to know what you're coming for. All-in-all, like I said, could be better. By no means a 'bad restaurant' or anything, just kind of a crapshoot as far as portion size and what's good on the menu, and a bit of a frazzled experience to dine at. If you're gonna cost more than double most other vegan restaurants in the city, you gotta step your game up. read more

My husband and I were early for our reservation and they were very accommodating and let us sit early. Staff was incredibly kind and helpful. We started with cocktails. I got the Coletta G&T which was spicy (not like HOT but seasoned). It was interesting and I really liked it. My partner got the H2O which I liked a little more. Definitely thought the cocktails were standout compared to the food. I will say the restaurant is dark. I could read the menu but people all around me were using their flashlights on their phone which I thought was a little distracting. I thought it was a good spot for a date night. The food to me was underwhelming. We ordered the calamari, the eggplant lasagna, and the chicken parmesan. Nothing really stood out and it was all pretty forgettable. I did like the eggplant lasagna the most of the 3 dishes. The calamari was fine but some of the pieces were under cooked in my opinion and very tough. I haven't had real calamari in a long time so I can't compare it but I wish I had gotten something else. We finished with the tiramisu which was more of a trifle. After hearing so much buzz about Coletta I was excited to try it out - I'm a vegetarian so I always enjoy these experiences. My partner and I shared the portobello carpaccio- which was delightful albeit small- and the weekly special of crispy baby artichokes that was my hands down favorite dish of the meal. Came on my birthday and left just a tad disappointed. The Tuna Crudo and Panna Cotta were great! The tuna crudo would have been a nice and light appetizer if the bread wasn't so fried and oily. But otherwise good. The main course, Sunchoke Risotto, however, was mediocre. Considering this was main entree, and the highest priced item, I expected a little more from it. The texture was typical of risotto - that slight grittiness of arborio rice. I'll give them credit that they did well to make the creamy base slightly thinner so it could have an even coverage over the rice but wasn't too thick. But overall it was a bit bland - not bland as in it needs more salt, because it had plenty, but bland as in it could use more flavors and textures. Came back to give it a second chance but was again quite disappointed. The calamari was pretty good. The squid ink ravioli had really thick skin, and the spinach filling felt really over cooked and flavorless. Presentation was great and the butter sauce was yummy but the pasta itself was disappointing. The tiramisu was just plain sweet and didn't have enough espresso soaked cookie. I mean, I don't hate it since the cream texture is better than the plasticy creams with powdered sugar, but it was also extremely sweet. I would have enjoyed it with more espresso and less sugar. Maybe a creamier full-bodied cream. When I think of tiramisu I'm looking for all of those layers and textures but this one felt like it was just missing maybe one layer, possibly a cake layer. Again, I left just feeling extremely dehydrated from the salt and over stimulated from the sugar. But not excited about any particular item. As a vegetarian, I always feel overwhelmed when I can order literally anything on the menu, but we ordered the below for four people: Rigatoni Alla Norma - Best dish of the night. The vegan ricotta looked and tasted like the real deal! Crispy Calamari - My second favorite dish. I've never had the real thing, but I loved the crispy consistency. Margherita Pizza - I don't normally love vegan cheese and this pizza had a lot of it. That being said, this was really good for a vegan pizza, and the crust was delicious! Garlic Knots - Good, but not amazing. Also, the marinara sauce they come with is a little bland and watery. Garlic Broccolini - Standard and didn't have as much garlic as I was hoping. We also ordered all three desserts (Tiramisu, Cardamom Vanilla Panna Cotta, and Lemon Almond Cake). My personal favorites were the Tiramisu and the Panna Cotta, but there was no real consensus around the table. The Panna Cotta has a silky (tofu based?) texture and the Tiramisu has a strong coffee taste (which I loved!), so go with what sounds best to you. The service was really friendly and accommodating, especially as we had a bit of a snafu with our reservation. I got to be honest here, as much as I wanted to like this food, it was just ok for me, hence the 3 stars. I had dinner here last night, 6:30PM reservations. They rush you out pretty quickly, try to take your dishes before you're even finished eating. Continuously ask you if you're done, maybe it was just me? I felt pressured to eat fast. It was weird. I get that the place is new and the service people are still new so I'm giving them some grace and ONLY reviewing the food. It could have also been our seating since they sat us in the brightly lit hallway through which all the servers run through. They've certainly maximized seating in this restaurant. Anyways, my friend and I tried quite a bit of food: 1) Almond "ricotta" bruschetta 2) "Calamari" 3) Wild Mushroom truffle pizza 4) Rigatoni alla Nonna 5) Tiramisu We shared everything. Here are my thoughts on each dish: 1) The bruschetta was nice and crispy but the ricotta was lacking in flavor. I've had some pretty amazing vegan ricotta in the past so I expected it to be fluffier and perhaps pack more of a punch. The figs were excellent but they were pretty small so they aren't in each bite. If you manage to try everything in one bite (incl. the arugula salad they serve on the side) it was a pretty tasty bite. Unfortunately for me, there were like 3 people trying to take our dish away with salad still on it. It was intense. 2) I'd skip this dish. The texture wasn't crispy and lacked the light, crunchiness you'd expect of fried calamari. 3) This pizza was the best dish I tried, a 5/5. The variety of mushrooms you get on the pizza was great, the textures were great too and the truffle wasn't overwhelming. The crust on this pizza was spot on. If I return, I'd try their other pizzas. 4) This was bland. The pasta was cooked well (al dente) but there was nothing special about this pasta dish and tasted like something I could easily make at home. The eggplant in the dish offered no flavor or texture and got lost in the sauce. Not my favorite at all. 5) I was REALLY looking forward to trying this tiramisu everyone on Google was raving about. Tiramisu is one of the hardest desserts to find veganized, I guess because it relies on dairy so heavily. I'm sad I didn't enjoy this at all. The crunchy bits instead of the traditional ladyfingers was just odd to me. It was pretty watery at the end of it but it wasn't good watery (like extra espresso sugary yumminess you'd expect). I was thrown off by this tiramisu and did not like it. Maybe my expectations were too high? Overall, I don't really see myself rushing back here which I think is perfectly fine since there is a lot of hype about this restaurant. Our server was nice. I decided to order the steak as it was highly recommended. My husband got the chik'n parm and my niece a pizza. As a starter we ordered the fried atrichoke. It did not take long to get our starter which was delicious with two separate dipping sauces. Our meals came quickly and I was amazed at how steak-like the "steak" looked. But more than that the taste was amazing. It actually looked and tasted more like what I remember pot roast tasting and looking like but whatever the case it was amazing. I am not a huge fan of broccolini but theirs was awesome. So well seasoned I was enjoying each bite. We shared the amazing olive and rosemary bread. I had the fig jam and "prosciutto" pizza - it was okay but very crust heavy so it just felt like another thick piece of bread Wasn't a huge fan of the "prosciutto" texture. My friend enjoyed the chick'n linguini alfredo - she said it was yummy, but she didn't love the imitation chick'n. We split the tiramisu at the end and it was a nice sweet little bite to round out the meal. Interesting they had harder cookies in it rather than the traditional sponge cake. Absolutely amazing experience My fiancé and I decided to stop for a bite to eat while we out in the city for date night. The service, food, and ambiance was just splendid. From the host to our waiter the experience was just amazing We had the Wild Mushroom Truffle for $24 And the Chick' Linguini Alfredo for $27 It was soooo good and tasty. The food literally came out in about 10mins nice and hot The decor was also very smoothing with all the wine against the walls and the relaxing music complimented that . Wow! I was super excited for this finally an ALL vegan Italian restaurant. And let me say this it did not disappoint!!!!! - upon entering the aesthetics and the vibe 100 The staff was extremely friendly welcoming and the seating area are nice and spacious A+++ - once we sat down our waitress can't remember her name was so sweet and nice truly the definition of an attentive, informative and nice waitress she definitely earned her tip 1000%. - food everything sounds delicious lol but of course couldn't order everything. We ordered the margarita pizza . The penne alla vodka , the lasagna & as a starter the potato ricotta - penne all vodka OMg delicious my favorite especially with the parm cheese on top 10-10 chefs kiss - margarita pizza YUmmy the crust was pure perfection nice and crispy not burnt flavorful the cheese wasn't bootleg lol everything about it was really good - lasagna ( okay have to be honest , this wasn't my favorite it was good but not great felt like it lacked some what flavor like salt / pepper or something. Wasn't crazy about the beyond meat in it i prefer with walnut as meat. However we did enjoy it after putting parm cheese on it gives it a good seasoning - potato ricotta was interesting broccoli pesto and these delicious crispy potatoes this was really good my first time tasting something like this. Definitely flavorful and not overpowering. - overall experience was top notch, will definitely visit over and over !
