This is a typical Cracker Barrel establishment with the store attached. The service is usually pretty good, although some servers are definitely slacking. One of the four-star servers wears a reddish apron instead of the brown ones. I recommend her. The daily meal promotions are somewhat of a joke, because if you get there after 4PM, they will be sold out of them. My wife and I eat here a few times a year and are rarely disappointed. However, try not to go there near closing time as coffee won't be the freshest. I recommend the hamburger steak (smothered) and the Grandma's sampler. I avoid any of the fried chicken meals as the cooks either send it out undercooked or super overdone. The store is clean, but seems to be understaffed these days. read more

WORST DINING EXPERINCE EVER! After all these years of avoiding Cracker Barrell like the plague, we decided to try this chain for the very first time. BAD DECISION! When we arrived, I was very impressed with the cute store and couldn't wait to explore it after dinner and spend a small fortune. The Host escorted us to our table. After that it all went downhill. We sat our table for about 15 to 20 minutes We put in an order for 2 drinks and 2 apps; told our Server we would order our entrees halfway through eating our apps. We do this so we are not rushed though the meal. Our Server came back with our drinks and then disappeared into the atmosphere, because we didn't get the apps until 20 minutes later. Which were onion petal and cheese bits. Really how long does it take to deep fry or air fry them 5 to 8 minutes tops. Before we received our apps, I had to get up from our table and go into their kitchen to find a staff member to check on our order. Once our Server returned with the apps, I told them to retun my app because I wasn't going to eat anything that came out of their kitchen now. At that time, we decided it was time to leave. However, I did want the Manager to know what an awful experience we had. No, I did not become a Karen, I politely informed him of the bad service. To the Manager's credit, he was very professional, polite and respectful. He apologized and took back the bill for the 2 drinks and 1 app. Thank you very much for that. To the Cracker Barrell management, if you don't want to serve someone have your Host say "We are really short staffed and the wait will be close to 2 hours." I think most people would not wait and leave, we would have. PROBLEM SOLVED! I have heard some of the bad experiences the Gay community has had with Cracker Barrell. In my opinion, I'm really hoping it wasn't that. This is a chain I've heard about for a long time but have never tried (supposedly they're ubiquitous in the South). At least up until a week ago. I happened to be in the company of my old friend in the vicinity of Clinton (he needed to buy something or other at the extremely depressing WalMart), and he wanted to eat here. I'm not sure how many Cracker Barrel restaurants there are in NJ, but I don't think too many. This lonely outpost wasn't my 1st choice for dinner, or even my 2nd, but...the prices seemed fair, and the portions are supposed to be large. The deciding factor, for me (besides the fact that my friend was driving), was that the Ramones used to favor this chain when they were out on the road. So...why not? (Interesting...I think so, anyway...trivia: the notorious NJ Woman's Prison...Edna Mahan Correctional Facility...is across the street. Another friend of mine used to work there as a guard, and she was arrested along with several others about a year ago for allegedly beating prisoners...in her defense, she's a sweet lady with a good heart, trying to support her kids. Although I guess, quite naturally, that the inmates have a different perspective. In any event, I believe the prison is soon to close.) One of the (several) reasons for my reluctance to dine at Cracker Barrel is their reputation for serving a lot of food for not much money. I'm belatedly trying to diet (and not having much success; I recently gained 3 pounds...must've been the rice cakes!), so the prospect of enormous quantities of cheap food didn't appeal to me. But my friend, checking out other dining options on Yelp with his I-phone, showed me the jaw-droppingly expensive prices being charged by the other, more upscale restaurants in the area. I checked my nearly empty wallet and reluctantly acquiesced. Our "boy's night out" was going to consist of shopping at Wal-Mart and dining at Cracker Barrel. Kid Rock would've been proud! The Cracker Barrel building is huge, and roomy. One side is taken up with a "gift shop." We were seated in the main dining area. The other patrons appeared to be, for the most part, parents and their children, and 1 guy who looked like he had auditioned for "Duck Dynasty" and lost. I found the menu confusing. Two sides with these dishes. Three with those. None with the other ones. I ordered a chicken pot pie and a Coke. My friend ordered a steak with 3 sides. I think his sides consisted of coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, a baked potato (which I don't think was considered a side), and maybe something else. A bowl was brought to the table with 2 pieces of cornbread, and 2 biscuits. The chicken pot pie was large enough, I guess, and cheap enough, but I thought it was...just ok. A little too salty for my taste. Had I been rating Cracker Barrel based solely on my experience, it would have rated 3-stars. Certainly not bad, but nothing exceptional either. I've raised it to a 4-star rating, however, because my friend was very pleased with his meal. He's not necessarily a steak connoisseur, but he does know the difference between a Kobe steak and Steak-umms. Our server was polite, friendly and efficient, and as we were getting ready to leave, he remarked, "Have a blessed day!" I was a bit put out by that, being the confirmed agnostic that I am (I idly wondered-- What do they say to the occasional Satanists who dine here? "Have a cursed day, y'all..."), but then I realized, "Y'know, Ed, you bitch in your reviews about clerks/servers/store-personnel who aren't friendly or polite, and now you're going to bitch because the server was TOO friendly and polite? There's no pleasing you, is there?" Nope. I guess I'm just programmed to be a miserable SOB, pervasively negative, no matter what situation I find myself in. The gift shop was about what you'd expect. Lots of old-fashioned candy, CDs by all-American country icons and Christian "artists" (I'm actually a fan of medieval, liturgical music used for the ancient church, including Gregorian chants and choral, but unfortunately none of that was available here). Self-help books with a Christian theme, Christmas items (of course), and even some innocuous Halloween stuff, which surprised me a little. Maybe the Halloween stuff was a sop to the occasional Satanist who stops by here. I guess the truth is that if I want copious amounts of relatively cheap food, I prefer to eat at certain diners (the Pompton Queen in Wayne, as one example), but it's also true that Cracker Barrel offers a substantial amount of food for a very fair price, service is uniformly friendly and efficient, and the Ramones used to eat here regularly (although not at this specific location, so far as I know), so what's not to like? I'd be willing to eat here again at some point in the future, although I'm not counting the days until then. For me, that's usually 3 stars. But my old friend is positively eager to stop by again, so...I'm rounding it up to 4 stars, in the interests of fairness. read more

Brought mom for her 87th bday breakfast. Although our server, Katie, was nice, we felt rushed during the order process. Before we could even finish our sentence she was asking another question. We let it go and enjoyed our meal. Forgot to take pics of our meals but here is part of what we ordered. The loaded tots were delicious. Fruit was sweet. Breakfast was good. Good experience, in line with what you expect from Cracker Barrel. I was really happy to see how seriously they are taking the pandemic - we wouldn't have actually eaten inside if they hadn't been - with good spacing between the tables and employees wearing masks. The customers in the store were also wearing masks except for one jerk doing the under the nose thing but that's not their fault if he keeps pulling it down when they aren't looking. Food wise, it was okay - the eggs unfortunately were over cooked from what I ordered, and none of it was a super wow to me, but that's okay! I don't come to Cracker Barrel expecting to be wowed, I expect a nice classic breakfast. The ham was tasty and I love the fried apples. The hash brown casserole is good too, and the biscuits and gravy on the side are nice. The service by Allison was prompt and friendly, and I'm glad she took wearing a mask seriously. We love the food here!! We were traveling thru Clinton w our camper and called ahead to make sure we could stay overnight in their RV lot. The woman who answered the phone was really welcoming and reminded us where to park the camper. We made it in time to have dinner. The food was great (I wish they had the campfire meals year around). Our camper is fully self contained and solar powered. So, we tried to be good, quiet guests and leave no trace behind. The next morning, we went inside for breakfast. I stopped at this location with my wife and her parents on our way back to Long Island. We were told the wait would be 15 minutes. That turned into a half hour (it was Sunday night, I understand) While waiting we observed a young waitress come to the hostess stand with a full tray of food and ask the THREE girls standing there to hand her some utensils. They all turned away and the waitress had to serve the guests THEN go back and get them utensils. I wish I had taken that as a sign and left. We sat and ordered an appetizer, then our meals. 3 turkey specials and one steak. After sitting at the table for around 40 minutes we assumed the appetizer was not going to arrive. After an hour I noticed people that sat after us were getting their food. That's when the waiter came over and told us they were out of turkey... We had been in this freezing cold restaurant for an hour and a half and they are just telling us they don't have the food for 3 of our dishes. Obviously, at this point we are not going to stay. I ask to speak to the manager. This lady makes me walk her back to the table I was sitting at, then prints the receipt and casually tells me there was never any good ordered for my table. So her employee, a person who's job is to tell the kitchen what I want to eat, did not compete his one task. I'm 3 hours from home and just wasted 1.5 hours and this person didn't even put my order in. Then LIED to my face and the manager put her hands up and said "sorry". The manager should be replaced or this place should be shut down. I'm beyond angry with the way we were treated and do not plan on ever going to a Cracker Barrel again. I haven't been to Cracker Barrel in a while, now I remember why. This place is strange, with the cluttered store you need to walk through to get to the restaurant. The host was less than enthusiastic but efficient. The restaurant was somewhat dark and looked like a combination of a cafeteria and a Friday's. Advertising was printed on the table and on a table tent. The table was cluttered. The food tasted ok. It was warm at best when it arrived and got cold very quickly. The pancakes weren't warm enough to melt the butter. The sausage, and ham were thin, dry and obviously over cooked. The hash brown casserole was uninspired and they could have kept it. The eggs were overcooked. The only thing I got that was good was the sourdough toast. Hot and tasty. The coffee was not HOT. The orange juice was fine but came in a tall large glass. All in all, It would have been a good value if it was good. If the food came hot, it would probably have been much better. Too bad..... I recommend finding a good diner instead. read more

I haven't been to Cracker Barrel in a hot minute, or actually IN any restaurants.Partner and I decided why not sit in for once, it's a couple minutes away and reasonably priced. I wandered the gift shop first because why not, a bit pricey but still cute stuff! I just took a picture of an old My Little Pony toy because it was my favorite growing up and the nostalgia really hit. Anyway, I ordered the new cheesecake stuffed pancakes. I wasn't starving so I asked if I could have NO sides (usually comes with eggs and meat of your choice) The waitress (very kind young blonde, can't remember her name sadly, possibly Mackenzie?) even seemed surprised by my request. I felt weird ordering it too but I knew I was gonna be full with just the pancakes so no point in wasting food! I guess my request also confused the kitchen as they sent out ONE pancake initially but reassured me they'd have the other one out soon. No problem at all! Im not fussy. I ate the first one and it was SO GOOD. I told my partner that I think just two will be perfect and I can't wait for them to bring out the next one. I don't know if they were still confused or meant it as a politely gesture to bring out two instead of one more, but who cares? I was happy lol Of course I was right and couldn't finish my plate, but it didn't matter, I was so happy about the customer service and how nice everyone was. With all this brouhaha happening around this restaurant I thought it was time to finally try it . I will say the best thing about this place is the people who work there . Starting with a most accommodating hostess and an equally as hospitable waitress they are great brand representatives. Unfortunately the food fell flat on its face . We went for breakfast and I couldn't have been more disappointed. Overall not one dish from our party of four was remotely that good . Pancakes were flavorless , hash brown casserole should have been great but was drowned in salt making it really inedible. The grits were like sand water . The only saving grace were the biscuits ... they were delicious . Perhaps management needs to focus less on logos and decorating and get back to making good basic quality food that Apperantly is what this brand was built on . I can't imagine going back anytime soon when a ihop or Waffle House deliver much better fare without any of the brand drama . read more

My wife and I hadn't been here in a few months and boy were we shocked by the quality and amount of food, the reduced choices available from their menu, poor service and attention to detail. my wife and I both ordered the same to g and the waitress only brought out one order? she quickly apologized and said she would be right back with other order. we both asked for crispy bacon and it looked nearly cooked! the pancakes absolutely sucked! they were smaller then normal, paper thin and rubbery. we had to literally cut them a knife to eat them! our waitress never once came back to refill or $4 cups of coffee! asked for a box to take the extra syrup and undercooked bacon we were going to recook at home and she dropped the box of and no bag? the scrambled eggs looked odd and pale? we have always loved going to Cracker Barrel, unfortunately this will be the last time we waste or money. who ever is running this company is not really running it they have ruined it. read more

First of all, for those of you who are complaining about long waits for service and food and tables, please understand it is not the restaurant's fault. No one is willing to work. If you can't wait, then go somewhere else. My daughter and I came for lunch. We were told the wait is 30-35 minutes. It was pretty accurate. I overheard the manager saying to another man who refused to wait for 25 minutes for a table that he only had 3 servers. Olivia our server was very nice and friendly. Dear Cracker Barrel it's been a while! This is one of those chain restaurants that you'll find all over the nation. And yet this location was just as great. Being that we're still dealing with our pandemic, I was concerned of safety measures. All employees had masks on. Cleaning/sanitizing was done after each table was done. Social distancing was enforced. Tables were spread about. No one was sitting near each other. Air five to that waitress who's customer accidentally spilled a whole drink and she not only quickly moved them, told them not to worry and was on her knees making sure that area was cleaned. Our waitress was great! She helped us decide on sides for our kids, had our kids meals come out first as requested and attentive overall to our table. The bill was super cheap for 2 adults and 3 kids. Overall the pricing is cheap for the amount of food you get. The food as usual was all good. Upon entrance there's a store/market that you can check out. Here you'll find things from candy to seasonal clothing. And no worries on parking, there's enough! read more

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And breakfast or any meal at Cracker Barrel never disappoints. We arrived and there was plenty of parking spaces available. They currently are doing curbside pick up as well and have parking spaces along the front of the restaurant dedicated for pick up. Usually along the front of the restaurant, there's rocking chairs lined up. But due to the pandemic they were removed. When you walk in, you go through the country store to get to the hostess. We were immediately seated. We were a bit of a large group and seated us in 2 separate tables. They couldn't move the tables, but we were seated across from each other. We arrived around around 9 in the morning and only were given the breakfast menu. A few of us were asking if some lunch menu items were available. But they said anything that can be grilled could be ordered. They have a great variety of breakfast foods and breakfast combos. I saw they had added some new items and one of them was the fully loaded hashbrown casserole topped with a scrambled egg, thick slices of bacon, diced tomatoes, Colby jack cheese, and crunchy onion straws. It was delicious! Each bite had a little of everything! I had as well ordered a short stack of pancakes,which was served with their infamous pancake syrup. My boyfriend had ordered the country boy breakfast. The meal was a sirloin steak, eggs, fried apples, has brown casserole, and grits. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sides accompanied the meal so well. He also ordered a side of their thick sliced bacon--who can say no to bacon? We also got a basket of their famous biscuits with a side of gravy! Great combo! And after eating, we wandered their store. They had all the old school vintage candy, country rustic house decor, and pretty much everything imaginable. I did see they did sell the batter for their pancakes. I will have to pick up a box next time. Overall, we had a great experience while at Cracker Barrel. Employees were observing all social distancing and wearing masks. They were cleaning their menus after each use. And all the tables were spaced apart and groups were being seated away from each other. I felt safe while I was having my meal. This is kinda cool place to have your breakfast. I like the way they staged/designed the place. Its feels like you are in a country side but with a little bit of urban mix. The food is good, the waiters is quick and the food came fast too. The only downside is most of the tables weren't cleaned thoroughly. There were crumbs and water spots on our table. Stopped by with a friend for lunch, I like stopping here when I'm in the area because they have a nice country style menu and so many things to choose from. Plus I like their attached gift shop which has some cute things to look at. I went with the sampler platter for $9.99 that has chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, and ham. Plus you get 3 sides and biscuits and muffins. For the sides I had sweet potato casserole, cornbread stuffing, and the hashbrown casserole. Everything was good and it was nice to have different things to sample. Way to much for me to finish but we did take the biscuits and muffins to go. Also the service was very good, my friend ordered pinto beans but then realized they had pork in them which she doesn't eat so the server gladly replaced it with some Mac and cheese. It's been years since I've gone into a CB and decided to have breakfast. We arrived around 10ish on a Saturday and there were lots of tables available so we were seated quickly. Our server promptly greeted us and took our beverage orders (coffee please! ). I ordered a build your own and my spouse ordered the Grandma special (lol). I had 2 OE eggs, pancakes, biscuits and country fried steak. Portions (imho) were just right. Enough to get full but also enough to be able to take back home (combined). Our server was super attentive and checked in on us a few times (thank you). Overall a pleasant experience. This was my first time coming to a Cracker Barrel restaurant, and I had heard good things about this place. First, let's get the bad part of the review out of the way. My food--I ordered the roast beef with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes--was dropped on the floor on accident. Our waitress apologized and immediately called the kitchen to make a new plate. I wasn't bothered by the fact my food was dropped and had to wait another 10 minutes. I was bothered that I couldn't have picked up the roast beef from the floor within 5 seconds. I could've two sets of roast beef--meat is expensive nowadays! So sad. In all seriousness, the waitress was kind and apologized for her mistake. She even told the manager to cover our meals because of the accident, which she didn't have to do; I would've paid regardless. I applaud her efforts. As to the food, it was great. Besides not having double portions of beef, it was tender and easy to cut. The sauce smothered on the beef was great and made it juicy. I didn't get the mashed potatoes because they ran out. However, I opted out for Mac and Cheese, which was a blessing in disguise. The atmosphere was good. It was like being in a log cabin with a fire pit on a snowy day, except for the part that there was a caution-wet-floor-warning sign next to me over the accident area. As with every Cracker Barrel restaurant, there's a store. I bought old candy there (3 candies for $6--what a steal!). Would I come back here? Oh my, there is nothing like a huge comfort food breakfast complete with biscuits and orange juice. The online wait time on the Cracker Barrel is approximate, so count on a longer wait time with "now hiring" signs posted. Even though it was an extra 10-15 minutes past the time, everything was perfect. The pancakes even come with adorable glass flasks of natural syrup (maple mix), much more adorable than a tiny plastic peel tub of sludge. The fluffy yet crisp edged biscuits were perfect, and perfect with a sausage patty. We took advantage of RV parking out back and enjoyed perusing the store while waiting for our takeout. Like all Cracker Barrel stores you see nostalgia, holiday, and country themes. It's always neat to see local sports gear, and the store is a Lodge cast iron vendor. The yummy food and nostalgia help soften the wait time, and the RV/bus parking is extra nice for people passing through. read more

Stopped in on our way to our skii trip. The staff were friendly and greeted us as we came in. We were seated we were in early so it was pretty empty. I hade the catfish grilled with a house salad and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was slightly missing a little flavor but the catfish flavor helped to balance it out. My first time successfully eating at Cracker Barrel and I really enjoyed myself. I'd always looked at this franchise as a place for traditional patriots to gather so I stayed away The wait was initially 13-15 minutes but we were called after 30 minutes. The shopping area is crowded. I didn't look around but everything looked interesting. Ambiance: the decor isn't for me, for obviously stated reasons. Photos of happy times are everywhere... Today I came by myself to dine and the place was packed. People with entitlement issues not caring that these employees are working to the bone to feed them. Lack of respect was awful, however, I was looking frazzled and going thru tons of stress and yet a special needs employee seemed me out to ask me how I was doing and feeling. That spoke volumes. My waiter Elijah was new and was very good at trying his very best with an overwhelming large crowd. Give him credit for doing his best and people if u have to trash someone keep it to yourself. What if I told you this was my first visit ever to Cracker Barrel? This comes as a surprise to many people but better late than never. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. It was southern comfort to the core. I haven't had dumplings in years, so I ordered that as a side along with mac n cheese and fried apples, with pecan crusted catfish as my main meal. I cleaned my plate and finished with a raspberry lemonade. I also enjoyed the service. Our server was so sweet and attentive. Food 0 service 0 Went on Christmas Eve, not busy. Food came out several times wrong, waitress didn't care. I ended up having to ask for the manager and sending my whole plate of food back. Sorry, but I don't want blood in my well done hamburger! Appetite was gone and my 2 dinner guests were already almost done with their food so I ordered a baked potato with butter and sour cream. Guess what? Potato only had butter, no sour cream. Just couldn't get any of my food correct at all. Had to beg just for water refills. I made the mistake of going to a different location and I won't do that again. I'll go back to my original cracker Barrel where the food and service is great! read more

We can never go wrong with a Cracker Barrel food stop during our road trips. This one gets 5 star for impeccable service. My boyfriend lost his wallet and by chance I tested our luck and called to see if he had dropped it during our last dinner stop before we headed back home. I'm sorry that I didn't think to jot her name, I think her name was Kristi? (I'm really bad with names.) Either way so thankful for their staff for holding on to the wallet and taking their time to mail it to us. Our waitress the night of was also very attentive to our needs (me and my need of 94 napkins ). The food of course was also amazing as it always is whenever we go to Cracker Barrel. We went for the Chicken Fried Chicken and boy did we devour every bite. We really love their gravy and those fried apples, dumplins, and mac and cheese never disappoint. Ok so we love Cracker Barrel especially when I'm in the mood for catfish, their's really is good. I never deviate from my meal, always catfish with dumplings and carrots. The watermelon lemonade was delicious. Food is always on point and everyone enjoyed their meal, the reason for the 3 stars, our server. She took forever to come over and take drink order then took a while for drinks to come out. Finally she brought out biscuits and muffins. But our food took forever to come out. My boyfriend went to the bathroom and daughter and her boyfriend went to look around the store just because they were getting bored waiting. Finally our food comes out and when we were finishing, she came over and basically asked us to hurry up because she was a half hour past her shift and wanted to leave but I guess was waiting for our tip. I found that rude because it took so long for the food to come out and it wasn't busy at all. People who came after us were done before us, had a different server. read more

This place is like one in 3 NJ locations that I know of... this one is off Rt 78 in Clinton, NJ. Most Cracker Barrel's have the same set up and service ... they have a country store which is cute to look in, rocking chairs on the outside, fast service. Most Cracker Barrel's are always busy--- I hardly ever see these places with no one in them lol Food is good/decent for the most part. Don't expect top of the line stuff but you will get a lot for your buck and most likely leave full. My go to dish is the country fried steak... I prefer the white gravy on the side. You get three items out of like 15 options like hash brown casserole, mashed potatoes, corn etc. most of the sides are starchy and if they are vegetables- then it's kinda bland in my mind. They serve biscuits and corn bread complimentary which does the job but again they seem kinda bland to me. If I don't get the country steak - then I get breakfast which is standard stuff. They used to have these Cracker Barrel maps that I liked ... used them when I was doing road trips to finished my 50 state tour... but they say they don't make them anymore... they say it's online now.
