Service was so friendly and sweet! We made a reservation for a Saturday night but ended up not needing it as there was plenty of space available. It was very quiet inside, but the decor was cute and modern - a very aesthetically pleasing space! I tried the Duck Confit and a hot Thai Tea Latte with oat milk. The latte was a little gritty, so while the flavor and warmth were pleasant, I don't think I'd order it again. The duck confit was super interesting as I'd never had one before! It definitely had a fusion vibe to it, where it didn't feel super French, but had an Asian flair to it. I don't love orange peel, so the candied orange on top wasn't my personal favorite, but I do know that's a key component of the dish, so I wasn't mad at it. Darla is a new restaurant on Big Basin Way. There wasn't much open today around lunchtime, so we stopped in. The ambience is nice, but understated. There is an outdoor patio that has a huge tree coming up out of the center that stands over the entire restaurant. It was comfortable and pretty. The food selection is quite interesting - Thai fusion that includes a bit of French, a bit of Japanese, and a bit of American. The menu is set up for a "soft open", so presumably limited dishes, but there is still a good selection. My wife ordered the Duck & Waffle, and I ordered the Karaage & Waffle, though I nearly got the Loco Moco. The Duck leg was cooked nicely and was tender and meaty, with a good taste. It went well with the waffle, as well as the orange sauce - she really liked that. I very much enjoyed the Karate, which was crispy outside and tender and juicy inside. It came with a spicy mayo sauce and syrup, and was delicious. I also ordered a side of candied bacon. The bacon was high-quality, and started sweet, but then worked its way to a nice spicy finish. It was my favorite part of the meal! There is also a large selection of drinks including Thai tea (hot or iced). Overall I'd rate it as good quality for the money (all the restaurants in that area are fairly pricy), and also interesting and tasty. I'll go back for sure. An absolute vibe! Delicious food. The Tom Kha soup was amazing. Delicious drinks. We went on a Sunday night and watched the house jazz band and they were fabulous! Getting to experience such high quality live music for free with a great dinner is pretty special and unique. I was having lunch with an old friend. It's my first time there. We ordered Mango Tango salad, Salmon Benedict and macha latte. The food are tasty. The service is good. I especially like the vibe in the room, zen-like calmness and very relaxing, no buzzing noises. I think it's largely due to the spacious setting so the customers in every table can enjoy a quiet conversation even the restaurant is full during lunchtime. Really lovely spot - we went for brunch and had a great experience! Their menu is so creative, we had a hard time picking what to order. We ended up getting the jok koong, the softie benedict with a side of rainbow potatoes, and the Darla French toast, with the yok lor ice coffee to drink. - The jok koong (rice porridge) was really nice and comforting - the mushroom and ginger flavors come through clearly, and it has a good amount of shrimp. The egg is also really nice to mix the yolk in and add to the silky texture. - The softie benedict has such a fun presentation! A really hearty dish with perfectly poached eggs. - The Darla French toast is really more of a bread pudding, but I enjoyed it a lot - the crusty edges are the best part. - The ice coffees were also so good - a really creamy and sweet drink that I would absolutely get again. The dining room is fairly spacious, and they have a cute outdoor patio as well. Service was prompt and everyone was very nice. We arrived just before noon on a Sunday and luckily were able to get seated right away. There are also two single-user bathrooms, kept quite clean, near the middle of the restaurant. Four of us were there for dinner last night and the food and service was fantastic. The owner waited on us while his wife managed the kitchen. It was a nice night so we sat on the deck which has more atmosphere than inside dining. The menu was such a great change from what we typically see at restaurants. We loved everything we tried: the burrata citrus plate was the weakest of the dishes but still good. We loved the chicken karaage so much that we ordered a second round. Loved the four taco flight. Bulgogi fries were good as well as the spaghetti napoletana (we added the optional bacon). They would get much more diners with a liquor license (hard liquor) but it is expensive. It's our hope they somehow secure a license so they stay in business. read more

The menu looked interesting and something my wife and I would enjoy. The fried soft shelled crab and the chicken were heavily fried and obviously in the same oil. The crab is supposed to have a sweet flavor. This was not even cleaned. This was supposed to be a kind of Benedict, Sounded good, but it was served on a rock hard piece of bread. I have been eyeing this place for a while now and finally got the chance to come try it out! My husband took me here for a bday brunch and I truly enjoyed the crispy stuffed French toast. The batter reminded me of my mom's childhood fried bananas. When they brought out my plate, it was BEAUTIFULLY plated and served. It was a great combination with the eggs and bacon I got on the side and pure maple syrup. My husband got the garden scramble with truffle potatoes which he enjoyed as well. I also tried the honey milk lavender. Honestly, it wasn't anything special. It was good, but something I could definitely make at home and would cost less lol. The place was cute and spacious, not cluttered feeling. My husband used to work in restaurants back in the day and said this was one of the nicest layouts and decor he's seen. Our party of 4 went to Darla's on a Saturday night which was jazz night. We did not purchase tickets for that and so were seated in a room way in the back. Aside from one other couple we were the only one's there. We placed our orders and it took an extremely long time to be served any part of the orders. The dinners came out one at a time to each individual with 5 to 10 minutes between each delivery. I complained to the person delivering the food and at the end she brought us 4 small deserts to make amends. We never saw the person again who took our orders intially. Food was ok but nothing outstanding and pricey. We will not be returning. read more

Very slow service, we waited 30 minutes for the appetizers. Portion is very small and the price is expensive for what you got. They mixed up our omelettes, and the waffles were cold with the chicken and waffles but the brioche caramel French toast was very good. Some of us ordered tea and they gave us just a mug with a teabag. Whereas, some tables I noticed, had pots of tea, which I would have preferred. The service was friendly and attentive. As soon we walked in we noticed the restaurant was empty the server came and asked if we had a reservation we said no then said let me see if I can seat you guys ! Like your place is empty why could you seat us right away ??? Then I wanted to order a plate with no bacon and they said it was not possible so I ordered a different plate it was $20 for some Greek yogurt and 2 eggs on top! Wow -- finally a good breakfast place in downtown Saratoga! It is no exaggeration to say that there isn't a full service restaurant breakfast that is any good in the neighborhood. Sue's has good coffee and pasteries, but not a full breakfast menu and Bell Tower is a breakfast place, but poor quality food. And don't even get me started on Big Basin cafe, which is bad coffee and bad food. Darla has a creative flair to the menu and the scramble was really well done. Been looking forward to going and got the chance today. Cute corner spot. Had the Caesar salad with kaarage chicken. When I asked, the waitress said the dressing was house-made. The romaine lettuce was fresh. The kaarage was decent. Only problem was the salad was too heavily dressed, so I couldn't finish it. And, why drizzle the dressing all over the Kaarage, that just made it taste even heavier with dressing. Almost inedible. And, not certain, but the dressing didn't taste house-made, a little to my disappointment. I like a good house-made Caesar dressing. Yet, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt with 4 stars. Food was okay but took 40 minutes for a party of two, and no contact with any staff during that time, not even a coffee refill. There were also tons of fungus gnats landing in our drinks and food because the wall plants' pots have zero drainage, so all the plants presumably have root rot. Will not be back unless the restaurant drills some big holes in all those pots, and hires more staff. Also, if you make a reservation they won't seat you unless your entire party is there, and will give your reserved table to a walk-in right in front of you. Understandable for large parties that might be late or spend 20 minutes waiting for stragglers. Irritating for a party of 2 when you were on time and told the staff the other person was a block away parking the car and you knew what drink they wanted. read more

I recently enjoyed a Sunday brunch at the Darla Cafe in beautiful Saratoga. They have indoor and outdoor seating however I wasn't certain if the outdoor space had heaters so I opted for a seat inside. I had very little interaction with the host so I couldn't confirm one way or another. I ordered Yuzu ricotta pancakes which were very good. My daughter wanted plain pasta (and they have pasta on the dinner menu) but they couldn't or wouldn't accommodate her so she ate French fries. Coffee and food were good, ambiance was nice, service was satisfactory only. There was no check in after the food was delivered and I only got the initial cup of coffee. Such a nice new place in downtown Saratoga! Darla Cafe is in The Basin's old location. The inside has been remodeled to be airy and light, lots of sunshine inside. I tried the Darla Eggs Benedict, which were big on flavor - the Hollandaise sauce was flavored with yuzu, and the eggs came on wonderful bread with candied bacon (maybe smoked paprika in the spices?) and crispy kale. On a weekday morning, there was no wait for a table. Here's hoping lots of people discover Darla's soon so that they get the success they deserve. We popped into this cafe on a Saturday morning at about 10am to try it out. My husband and I were seated pretty quickly and had our orders taken promptly. The place was full with lots of people coming in. Minimalist ambiance but nice. After waiting for quite a long time (due to the popularity of the place) and starting to shift and give looks to the staff, we finally received our food after about 40 minutes. Unfortunately, my order was wrong. I had tried the special pancakes and they gave me pancakes with berry topping instead. It looked good too but I didn't want it. I had to wait a while longer while my husband was already finishing his food (he ordered the eggs Benedict and loved it!) to get the server's attention for the error. By the time my correct order was served to me, my husband was done and we only had a short time to return to pick up my son. The correct pancakes were great however they did not deem to make me a fresh egg so that was cold, as well as the extra sausage I ordered. Simply slid from one plate to the new plate (egg still had the berry sauce under it). Come on, how hard is it to remake one egg and heat the sausage? We had a hard time to choose what we wanted to eat because we would love to try every single dish in their menu!! The shrimp porridge healed my soul. I'm not a big fan of the WAFFLE but I would say it is A MUST to try! It's soft, chewvy, smell so good and totally different from the waffle I've ever had before. The chicken karaage was crispy and tasty. It was so YUMMM. One hundred thumbs up for the amazing Hella crab spaghetti. It was light and a bit spicy which made me couldn't stop eatting it even I was so full. If you love creamy coffee Don't forget to try their special iced coffee. OMG it made my day!! This sport had a homey vibe which made us felt comfortable and relaxed. The most important thing that made me so in love with this lovely place was all the staffs put their HEARTS in every detail.
