My parents, sister and I frequented this restaurant the day before Mother's Day. The atmosphere was lovely. We enjoyed a variety of dishes including chicken parmigiana, lasagna, antipasto salad and the Italian wedding soup. All were delicious. The lasagna was especially good. It was a cheese lasagna, which was the way we ate it growing up in an Italian household. I never order lasagna out but I would order it here. Only complaint was that the hot dishes (other than the soup) were lukewarm and the spaghetti cold when served. Also, the antipasto could have used some chunks of cheese. My husband, his daughter, her friend, and I ate dinner at DiFebo's a couple of weeks ago. First, let me state that this is my favorite Italian restaurant around, but what ensued only sealed the deal. Upon learning that one of us is vegan, Alison, our server, went out of her way to make suggestions. The chef even came to speak with our guest. We were all very pleased with our meals, but especially the vegan, who ate every morsel. Alison kept checking on us and was so hospitable, friendly and fun; just what our group loves in a server. Ever since then, Alison has stopped and said hello to my husband and me when we stop in for a drink or a meal. What a special person she is! read more

We've gone in large groups and small groups and the service is always the same, consistent and excellent!!! I wish I can recommend just one thing but I can't see all the food is great. I feel like I must have been at a different restaurant then most of these other reviewers...at least I had to have been there on an off night. Having said that there is one portion of my experience I wanted to share, if for no other reason just so I can go back and read it for my own entertainment... Our waitress, who I must say was very nice, really has no business waiting tables. Or at least needs some training on dealing with vegetarians or people with food restrictions. To start, my wife asked if the Risotto was made with Chicken stock or a vegetable based stock. She had just said she was a vegetarian. The waitress replied, "I'm not sure. I think it may be vegetable stock...yeah it's vegetable stock." Not instilling a lot of confidence I assure you. In almost any other situation I've been in like this, where the wait staff is uncertain, the waiter or waitress will usually offer to check with the kitchen. Whether they do or not, I can't guarantee, but they do go through the motions. This woman was perfectly cool with guessing. Next my wife asked if the sauce that came with a particular dish was again vegetarian or meat based. The waitress replied "It's vegetarian. I mean they cook the meatballs in it, but then they take them out, and what's left over is what they use for the sauce, so there's no meat in it anymore." Finally and this took the cake...after my wife chose a pasta dish with marinara sauce the waitress asked if she would like chicken with it?!?!?!? We just looked at each other in disbelief. Nevertheless there were four of us at dinner. One person liked their food, two were indifferent about it and one couldn't eat it due to the fish being overcooked to the point that it was difficult to cut. The manager did take the fish off of the bill which was nice, but overall it was a tough night at Difebo's. read more

Well I went here a few months ago and I was quite disappointed. First off the customer service was quite poor. The waiter literally hovered around the table while we ate our appetizers and asked if he could take our dishes 3 times while we were still eating, keep in mind this was all within 15 minutes. If I wanted to shovel down my food in 5 minutes I would go to Burger King. Next, while the appetizers we ordered (mussels for me, bruschetta for her) was quite tasty, the main courses were awful. On the waiters recommendation we ordered the veal chop medium rare, we received it medium well, rubber tire anyone? Yum, not! The ravioli we ordered was overly sweet, and I like sweet tasting sauces but this tasted like it was drowned in sugar..yuck! It was so bad we passed on dessert and just had coffee to get the taste out if our mouths. The final tally for poor rushed service and mediocre to poor food that wasn't cooked as ordered came to $120, We would have been better off at Burger King to get a satisfying meal. Just got back from there tonight. Will not be returning for dinner. Also, I always forget that 3 stars = A-OK, which this place is not, so 2 stars = I have had better. First off, the good. The place looked clean, staff was friendly and waiter was subdued, but nice and polite. Appetizer was very good. We had the Risotto Balls. Bread was GREAT!! If we had salads, bread and appetizer, this review would have probably been better and gotten 4 stars. My wife liked her pasta, but not enough for the prices on the menu. Mine was horrible. I could have easily made better myself. I was planning on getting the Chicken Parmesan based on another review, but decided to try the homemade linguine with chicken, which was the BIG MISTAKE. The dish was bland, the sauce was the consistency of water. I should have told the waiter and refused to eat and pay for it. Most of the patrons were elderly and might be lacking a palate, thus the ability to stay in business. I don't understand how the chef could have put that dish out. I would have loved to see Robert Irvine sample my dish. Funny thing is other reviews liked the food and not the service and I found the opposite. Pretty decent Italian place. Ate here while on vacation and can't really complain an incredible amount about the food; it was decent. A bit above average but nothing extremely out of the ordinary. Service was below average. Had to wait about 10 minutes to be offered cheese on my pasta. Asked for more bread and received none. I felt as though I was neglected as a customer. Prices are way too much. Spaghetti and ONE meatball 16? I don't think that's appropriate. In addition, I was absolutely astonished to find an order of garlic bread (priced at 5 dollars) was exactly three slivers of bread with some olive oil and minced garlic. The food was very good (4 star worthy); however, the service sucks. We should have left when the hostess told us they wouldn't be able to seat us because they were so backed up, but she ended up seating us because we had a reservation. We had to wait an eternity for our food and drinks. On top of that, we have a 2 year old who was absolutely starving after waiting an hour for his meatballs and raviolis. Difebo's is excellent for carry out but I find dining in to be inconsistent. Their sandwiches are all outstanding but some of the lunch dishes leave a lot to be desired. Lunch is a great deal, since you can order one entree and get a second for half off but dinner is a bit pricey for what you get. I think I miss the day's of Difebo's being basically just a shack with a deck where you'd go to get an amazing italian cold cut. Now it's attempting to be fine italian dining, but I don't think it's quite able to pull it off. I'll still go pretty much every time I'm in Bethany, but it will be mostly for a sandwich to go, just like old times. read more

As a year round resident, we continue to be disappointed by this restaurant.! We so want it to be good but it is just mediocre! Our kids were here from Hawaii for the weekend and it was there choice. It started with my Cosmo not being served in a martini glass but a water glass, then the cheese plate, they didn't have the humbolt fog, the entrees were ok. Bolognese was average, antipasto salad great, the whole sea bass good. They were rushing us out, cleared our wine glasses while we still had a third of a bottle left, asked us to take our check 5 times in 5 minutes..... but there were empty tables all around us! This is a classic case of not having good training or good mgmt! There are way better better choices here! read more

I have been eating at DiFebo's since I was a kid, when it was nothing more than a double-wide with meat slicer and a gravel parking lot. While DiFebo's has changed lot over the years, the awesome Italian food and family-owned atmosphere remains. I currently live on the West Coast, but go back to my parent's vacation home each year in August & DiFebo's is always a must. Whether it is ordering carryout subs form the deli, or sitting down for a 5-course dinner in the Dining Room, DiFebo's is sure to please. In the summer months (June-September), I highly recommend making RESERVATIONS far in advance. Even with a reservation, expect to wait a bit before being seated as it tends to get jammed. With a little patience and an appetite for delicious Italian cuisine, you are sure to love this place! Side Note: They sell their spicy, hot pepper-infused olive oil. I transported it back to L.A. because it is so good! I plan on bringing at least one bottle back each visit! Buy it! read more

There are not too many restaurant options with quality food when it comes to Bethany Beach. I happened to find Difebo's Restaurant through an app that my friend uses to identify restaurants that are Celiac and gluten free friendly. On a Saturday night I was thankful that I called ahead and made reservations. The restaurant was crowded with people waiting outside the restaurant to be seated. We were seated outdoors and although it was particularly humid this night, I was comfortable while dining. Overall our service was great. Our waitress was really sweet and attentive. The meal started with some summer sangria (yum!) and a serving of bread. There was olive oil and Italian seasonings at the table for you to make your own. The bread was so delicious. Our server was not stingy with the bread and often asked us if we wanted more. I could have eaten this bread all night and I would have been content. I was indecisive and ordered the grilled octopus over arugula starter along with the antipasto salad as my meal. The octopus was good, although not cooked perfectly. I get it that octopus can be hard and my octopus was a little on the chewy side, but the flavors were there so I was mostly satisfied. My antipasto salad was exactly what I wanted. Little bites of olives, marinated mushrooms, prosciutto, artichoke hearts, roasted peppers, salami and hard boiled eggs all over romain lettuce served with a house dressing. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few antipasto included in the dish. The serving is pretty generous. So much so that I was able to take my leftovers home and share the antipasto with my friends the next day for lunch. As I mentioned earlier, this restaurant is GF friendly and really adheres to the strict guidelines that come with Celiac's disease. They did not offer a special GF menu necessarily, but my friend stated some meals she was interested in and the server give insight in if the meal would be able to be made GF. We came upon Di Febo's by accident. It was a happy surprise. It is high season in Bethany and the place is popular. They had a great menu and great service. We were seated pretty quickly after we arrived. This was a surprise as it looked pretty full. The dining room we sat in had large windows so you could see what was going on in the kitchen. Absolutely our favorite Italian restaurant on Delmarva! When I walk in the door and smell the red sauce, my mouth starts watering. They have a nicely varied menu, from pastas [of course], to meat and fish dishes, with interesting daily specials. My personal acid test, the gnocchi, are firm and flavorful without weighing on my stomach like balls of modelling clay. Everything is fresh. The vegetables have body and flavor. Even the bread tastes great. [Use the olive oil and pepper, Italian style.] Portions are appropriately sized, and we have never left feeling less than fully sated. Usually, it's a struggle to save room for one of the sinful desserts. The atmosphere is genial and comfortable, like your cozy neighborhood place on the corner. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are helpful on prime occasions [Valentine's Day, Mothers' Day, that kind of thing] even for two. They have a covered patio, with heaters if necessary, for dining al fresco. The bar is thorough, with seasonally featured cocktails and wines. If their own white sangria is available, get it! It's wonderfully crisp with a slight sweetness; just the thing after a hot day. The wait-staff are cordial and attentive without hovering. There is parking on-site. Prices are reasonable. I highly recommend DiFebo's to anyone who asks. It is well worth the hour+ drive [that's in the off-season] from our home. I can't wait to try their new location in Rehoboth Beach. read more

This restaurant serves consistently delicious foods and has an amazing menu, complete with daily specials. Very nice ambiance both indoors and out, weather permitting. There cheeseboard is a wonderful appetizer. You get to choose from a selection of cheeses and meats. Anti-pasta is unbelievable... definitely big enough to share. These things alone would be enough to earn a five star rating, but the service is also something that is hard to find. Wait staff is extremely attentive and even management will stop and chat regardless of how busy it seems to be. Short ribs are to die for! If you see them on the menu do not miss them! I am not sure whether I should have actually given this a 2 but I will be generous despite the fact that these folks are not! We ordered for four of us for Fathers' Day to celebrate. We had a mix of different things and we were satisfied with our order on some levels. One had swordfish and liked it. Also mussels got a thumbs up. As well as Italian wedding soup. The chicken parmigiana was okay but too much breading and my crab fettuccini Alfredo was too cheesy and when reheated for leftovers had a huge amount of grease which liquified and just was not good. Also for the amount extra to get crab there could have been a bit more..was less than one crab worth and that's considering an undersized one . Also, I saw someone rave about the bread but the rolls we received were not so great either. My husband also got peanut butter pie which he said he only finished because he is in that habit . He wouldn't get it again. So I guess that is only 2 out of six items that were above average ..so a three is maybe okay. However , I should knock it down for this last item...we ordered a pint of ice cream for dessert for the rest of us..and ..nope it was not in the bag. When we called they did agree to credit us ..but no offer of anything else...not a credit and a free ice cream ...not even a discount certificate to use at a future date. Had an amazing meal! Friends who live locally year-round introduced us to this gem. So many enticing entree choices, we ended up sharing/eating family style. The scallops and risotto with summer vegetables were my favorite. We also enjoyed the DiFebo's seafood stew. My wife and I wandered I after our first choice restaurant told us there was a long wait and I'm glad we found this place. The owner was friendly and engaging and visited each table during dinner. (As a former restaurateur I think this activity is mandatory!) I asked him a couple questions about the menu and was told it was okay to substitute items here and there. He even brought over a bottle of his "private stock" olive oil infused with habanero peppers when I asked if the chef would make a dish spicy. We started with the calamari (which I think is the bellwether of the kitchen's ability - so many restaurants bring out the dish hard and overcooked) and it was cooked perfectly and tender. A nice assortment of bread is offered. My wife had the ossobucco which she loved. A demitasse spoon was provided for the marrow. I had the creamy crab pasta which I thought was delicious and was surprised at the generous portion of crab meat. The entrée items are reasonably priced with ample portions. My husband and I first came to DiFebo's for Valentines day 2014 and we fell in love (with the restaurant lol). We just recently returned for our anniversary on Saturday 7/26 and everything was amazing. When we want a good filet, this is where we come. We have never had anything else, but the filet mignon is amazing and cooked to perfection. I get the plain filet topped with gorgonzola and my husband gets the surf and turf which was the same filet but topped with 5 jumbo shrimp. Both came with delicious mashed potatoes and asparagus. We also dined on their crab bruschetta which I believe changes daily. We had the lobster bruschetta back on Valentines day which was my fav! We drank their summer sangria, which was very light and delicious! We really enjoy celebrating our special occasions there and will continue to do so, we look forward to our next visit!
